Well all the old wives tales turned out to be true... we are having a boy .... and there is no chance of them have gotting it wrong... even my OH knew (i couldnt see the screen)

I was in there for 40 mins rather than 20 as he wouldn't move... she was prodding and shaking my stomach, rolling me in to all different positions... it still wouldnt move!! And the whole time i could see OH looking at the screen laughing, as on the screen you could see bump bouncing up and down inside... and he was convinced it looked like he had his head on his hand.. in kind of a porn star style lol

mrsx here here you are not a bad mother at all!! get that idea out of your head now :)

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 07:40

Congratulations Kristy on the scan. Another checkpoint successfully passed! And another little boy. :)
Congratulations seven on receiving the nursery furniture! How exciting!
We have ordered ours, but we're hoping to sell our house and move before it arrives. We've just lowered our price by about 15% (!) in order to get a quick sale. We figured the value of being in our future family home before the baby arrives was worth more than holding out for more pennies for our current house. Fingers crossed!

msbuggywinkle · 29/07/2011 09:26

Congratulations kri5ty, an awkward little boy! Grin

It is our scan this morning, can't wait!

jomouse · 29/07/2011 09:36

Morning all - I have just seen there are threads opening up on here for April 2012 babies! It seems like yesterday I joined the Dec 2011 thread....makes me all misty eyed and nostalgic.

On the other hand I feel like I have pregnant forever and I'm really loving it now....only a month left till third tri and we get all cranky ( at least I'm sure I will...)
I am so jealous of new nursery furniture seven. We are waiting for exchange date on house (outside London,Hertfordshire) and can't, cant wait. Oi MissusI hope a quick rate reduction helps you to sell yours quick so you start nesting, are you planning to move far?

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 09:45

awww good luck mrsbuggy :)

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 09:46

April 2012 babies!! that seems like so far away!
But I feel like I only got pregnant yesterday, and 2nd December will be here before I know it!
Congrats on the forthcoming house move! (So jealous!)
We aren't planning to move far. We live in Horwich, Bolton now, and the house I want is in the next village. But the house I want needs a lot of work. It's fine to move into - not falling down or anything - and nicely decorated in the main, but it needs double glazing, a new central heating system, a new bathroom... Hubby is not too keen on it for all these reasons, but I see this big old house as our sturdy family home for the rest of our lives. And there's a separate garden for chickens and veggies!
Enjoy your scan missbuggy, I hope all is happy and progressing well. :)

Velvetunderground · 29/07/2011 09:50

What time is your scan Mrsbuggy? So excited for you Smile

Our scan is in less than a week away now and i'm so nervous. I really want a girl but it would be nice to have a little brother for my son. We have a girls name picked out but we are struggaling to get a good boys name that does not clash with our son's name and my 6 nephews names Sad

I so want to start getting all the baby stuff ready now but i think its still too early.

Is anyone else looking at little babies when you are out and thinking they are so cute i can't wait to have mine? I guess i'm broody but already pg!

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 09:54

which village are you looking at oimissus?

velvet we have sooo much of the baby stuff (apart from clothes), i have been getting stuff each month so we dont have to pay for a load of stuff all at once lol

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 10:02

Adlington is where we may be bound. But we're going looking at some more houses tomorrow.
We have bought nothing yet - apart from one pyjama case soft animal - and we've put a deposit down on the furniture. But I don't want to get loads of stuff to have to pack up and move.
Mamas and papas - where we're getting the furniture from - are pretty clever. They've said we can add anything to our order and it'll all be delivered together. Which is just too tempting!!

sevendwarves · 29/07/2011 10:13

Good luck with the scan msbuggy.

Thanks jomouse, we've got DS's old cot and Moses basket so only bought a chest of draws and a tall narrow chest, it's only a small room and I don't think we'd be able to fit in a wardrobe once the baby is big enough for a proper bed, although we have a small built in cupboard so will probably put a rail in there instead. Even so, I'm really excited, we moved out of our one bedroom flat when DS was 2.5 so never had a nursery last time!

Which wives tale do you mean kri5ty? The 'craving sweets for a girl and savoury for a boy' one was right for both me and my sister in our previous pregnancies. If it's right again I'm having a girl.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 29/07/2011 10:25

Kri5ty Congrats on your scan Smile

Seven exciting now all your nursery furniture has arrived.

MrsBuggy good luck with your scan today .

We've still got everything furniture wise from having DD. My in-laws are buying us a new pushchair Smile still got some babygros, vests etc have started to pick up nappys, wipes, cotton wool buds, etc so have a stock pile.

Taking DD swimming today which will be good.

Hope everyone hasa good day

fusam · 29/07/2011 10:59

I am back from the hell of hypermesis couldn't bear to look at the computer screen for the last few months. The nausea is just now being held in check by medication, yuk.

Glad to see everyone is doing so well, will try to catch up on the news in a bit.

Has anyone thought about birthplans and so on yet? I am trying to work out the pros and cons between VBAC or ELCS.

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 11:15

seven all i want to eat is savory things.. i have turned in to a man and have become hairy!! I only have a bump... no weight anywhere else, i havent felt it kick yet (lazy) and to top it all off it was scratching its bum on the 12 week scan!! And on this one had its hand on its willy haha

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 11:15

welcome back fusam
Birthplans - not in any detail - I wanted a birthing pool at home, but DH would prefer a hospital for our first... We visited the hospital to have a look and thought it wasn't so bad, and they have two birth pools. I'm not anti drugs or anything, and am certainly not pro-pain (!) but the idea of having to lie on my back with an epidural puts me right off.
When the time comes, I'll probably be in my bikini top, holding the MW by the throat and demanding an epidural. We shall see!
I have no experience of caesarians to share.

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 11:17

fusam i havent thought about it, i have already been told i have to have an early epidural due to medical history, so im not sure if there is much point Hmm

Velvetunderground · 29/07/2011 11:23

I'm not doing a birthing plan as there is no point, what will happen will happen. I also dont think the mw will pay any attention to it anyway.

I want to got one of these, what do you think? Is it a good idea or should i just go for a bouncy chair?

HoneyLovesCake · 29/07/2011 11:48

Congrats on all the scans. I'm Envy of all of you who know what you're having but I really wanted a surprise so I'm going to have to stay strong at my 32 week scan.

I've bought clothes & cloth nappies, also a small 1930s wardrobe that I'm converting into a baby wardrobe with extra rails, baskets etc. I've been really busy preparing for my best friends wedding (I'm making the cupcakes & am a bridesmaid) but hopefully will get a chance to sand it down & paint it in the next couple of weeks when the wedding's over. Really want a Bednest but even on ebay they're pricey. I was hoping the in-laws would offer to buy something (a car seat would be nice) but no offers have come in yet :( It's all so expensive & I'm really good at hunting down bargains!

OiMissus get your DH to give this site a look over if you really want a homebirth, it's full of great info: www.homebirth.org.uk/

Luckily my DP didn't take too much convincing...our hospital doesn't have birth pools so that put me off completely & everything they have at the birthing centre you can have at home too plus you don't have to get in a car on icy roads with your newborn straight after giving birth which scares the heck out of me.

Interesting...I've been craving sweets from the start Hmm

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 11:54

ooo honey ignore all of the old wives tales!! maybe you have a boy brewing in there that has a sweet tooth!!

Out of interest (and i will sound a little thick) where did you get your extra rail for the wardrobe from? we have a wardrobe, but an extra rail would be fantastic ... do they just glue in?

HoneyLovesCake · 29/07/2011 12:13

kri5ty or it might just be my sweet tooth Grin I've always pictured myself with girls (I grew up without a dad, brothers or nephews) but I know DP would like a boy 1st.

Doesn't sound thick at all...haven't actually bought the rails yet, DP's in the building trade so he'll probably just buy them from the builders merchant he uses but I've definitely seen them in B&Q too in their "storage" area. The most basic ones are just a plain wooden or metal pole. They fix in with brackets; either ones that fix to the ceiling of the wardrobe or the sides. Like these side ones:

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 12:17

Hi velvet - the swing you have chosen is not dissimilar to the MAGIC bouncer we have picked out: www.mamasandpapas.com/product-magic-astro-bouncer-includes-magic-card-toys-pack-stripe/s0008080/type-s/
The MAGIC thing has percussion sensors that react to the baby kicking his feet. The reviews show that babies are really stimulated by it, so even though it's silly expensive at £130, we're really keen. I'm not going to buy it yet as I'm hoping that someone in the family will step forward. :)
honey thanks for the link! the idea of driving on icy roads, the idea of being stuck in a little room for 24 hours, the idea of getting to hospital and being turned away, the idea of both birthing pools being occupied - these things all put me off a hospital birth! I'll wait til nearer the time to make my final decision.
Which cloth nappies have you chosen - or have you got a selection to try when the little one comes along?

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 12:32

thanks honey :-) i love to see the good use of ebay... everything for our little baby bump has come off there so far!!

vanessa if i was allowed to, i would have a home birth... i think it is a fantastic idea, and i know nothing would go wrong... but if it did there would be an excellent midwife with you and a hospital near by!
lets work on convincing your OH :o

BluebellsintheSpring · 29/07/2011 12:36

So exciting reading posts from the last few days with scan news, names chat and all the preparations!

Good luck for all the forthcoming scans! Also a bit Envy of those who know but will just have to wait for the surprise. Got it in my head that's it's a boy but as I spent the first 14 weeks being convinced it was a girl, I'll probs change my mind again!

We've bought travel system, bouncer and changing bag/mat but stopped there. Our house will be going up for sale next week so we've decided to aim for the 'uncluttered' look and postpone buying more stuff for the mo - really hard! Really want to move but housing market very flat here at moment so we'll see! As a first timer, found the mumsnet reviews of products quite helpful to guide me with purchases.

In terms of birth plans, we have a lovely m/w led home from home unit attached to our local maternity unit with a non- intervention ethos. Each room has its own birthing pool and is spacious and light/deliberately set up to look non-medicalised. I'm hoping to have water birth there - that way with it being my first, if I really can't cope they can transfer you to the labour ward (same building/different floor) for epidural or in emergency. That's my wussy halfway house. Only prob is - if home from home is full, you just get admitted to labour ward. Anyway, that's all still a few months away so no point worrying!

Phew better get back to cleaning the floor - that was longer than I expected!

sevendwarves · 29/07/2011 13:04

velvet that swing is lovely but it really just comes down to cost I guess, baby will be just as happy with a bouncy chair.

I won't be bothering with a birthplan, I planned a completely natural birth last time but was soon begging for pain-relief and the birthplan never even left my hospital bag! I'll probably just have pethidine again. I also like the idea of a homebirth but DH isn't keen. Anyway with the posibility of repeat pre-eclampsia and premature labour it's not worth getting my hopes up.

Other than furniture we've bought some bottles, steriliser, a few nappies and phil & teds pushchair. We have loads DS's old clothes and other baby stuff, including a few unisex sleepsuits. We just really need new mattresses for the cot and Moses basket and towels, as well as clothes, blankets and sheets if it's a girl.

Velvetunderground · 29/07/2011 13:27

Sevendwarves - We have everything saved from our son so only need a few more things. But you just reminded me that we need a new mattress for the cot bed, thanks Grin

So far my list is:
New moses basket
bouncychair/swing
New mattress
Girl clothes/beding if its a girl
newborn nappies
swaddle blanket

(have i forgot something important?)
