msbuggy DP will be having a month off too - just hope I have some hair by time he goes back in January lol.

This afternoon, DP is in the garden laying our patio down, so I am going to watch the start of the F1, then make a victoria sponge and get dinner on the go for 4ish, and I guess tackle the ironing pile in front of me. DD has gone to nannys for the afternoon so we can crack on and get things done.

msbuggywinkle · 24/07/2011 13:43

Sounds like a productive afternoon Darcies, we've done the big clean out of the chickens and their run, power washed the paving slabs their house is on and have stew on the go with our own (pitiful crop!) of potatoes in it...thus making me sound like a middle-class cliche for the day!

DarciesmumandBump2 · 24/07/2011 14:14

Sounds like you've been busy too :)

we had our potatoes from the garden over the last few weeks and they were lovely. Lamb Roast today. Just waiting for my cake to finish baking.

sevendwarves · 24/07/2011 19:58

DS was born at 35+5, the day after I would have started my maternity leave had I not been signed off. Thankfully we were fairly organised, I spoke to quite a few new mums at baby group who said they didn't even have a cot or moses basket at that point!

msbuggy completely off topic but do your chickens not mind being on paving slabs, I assumed they were best on dirt. We're contemplating getting chickens (when we can afford a coop) but the only place we have room is where the rotting playhouse that came with the house is standing, although its on a huge slab of concrete.

Hope everyone is ok, I feel really sick tonight and my belly hurts. Think I might have to have an early night.

msbuggywinkle · 24/07/2011 20:25

We put down hardwoodchippings on top of the slabs, so the ladies have something to scratch about it when they're in their run (they mainly free range though) and change it every 3/4 months. People also use straw, sand or auboise (which is a horse bedding). Being on slabs protects them from having their run dug into by rats or foxes, although we haven't had a problem with either, it also means that they don't get waterlogged in the mud in winter.

Go for it, we have a Eglu (it was my birthday present this year!) which is very easy to clean, but in general they are brilliant pets and really useful too. Their poo is fab on the garden. It has given me a livestock bug though, I want bees next!

Hello to everyone, first time posting on here, but have lurked for years months. 19 weeks gone, due 16th Dec (just realised there is probably a specal board for 'intro's') with my first.

Don't know how I would have stayed sane without you lot, so thought it high time I took the plunge and joined in!

Will have to swot up now, to catch up after leaving it so late to sign up Blush

OiMissus · 25/07/2011 07:42

Morning ladies, and welcome to LACBNQ (interesting name!)
I'm very jealous Darcies and msbuggy! We are trying to sell our house, and whatever we buy, I want space for chickens and a veggie patch. (Living the middle-class dream! he he he!) The real dream is to have some donkeys, goats and a guard goose, as well as dogs... but working full time and travelling a lot, and living in a terraced house, keeps it all just a dream! But the chucks and the veggie patch should be do-able when we sell the house!
We ordered the nursery furniture at the weekend! Very exciting! Our first baby related purchase! (We've asked for a delivery date at the end of October, but probably won't build it until we've moved.) ...must drop the house price and get a move on!

kri5ty · 25/07/2011 08:37

Oooo gosh you are all very good!! I would love to grow veg and have chickens, bu im just too lazy Blush i do keep saying we are going to grow some veg though (would have to be in pots etc) but im unsure what you can do it pots lol

OiMissus · 25/07/2011 08:44

You can do loads in pots, but we have ant problems in the back yard. In the front garden (measuring approx 1m x 2.5m) I have lots of herbs - coriander, parsley, oregano, chives, mint,... in with the normal flowers, but the neighbours' cats render them all a bit unsavoury (they are just for greenery now). I grew broccoli in the front garden last year, but for the size of the plant, the harvest was not worth it. The first pickings were gorgeous, but the later pickings were all a bit "woody". This time next year, I WILL have a proper patch! I WILL!

kri5ty · 25/07/2011 09:01

you can tell me all about it at the trafford centre!! could you do potatos if the pot was deep enough? ooo or carrots? lol

msbuggywinkle · 25/07/2011 09:37

As I said, we sound very middle class, but live in an ex-council house. Actually, I love it here, our estate is lovely and there are tons of children to play out with. We only have a small garden but we have made it into a mini-permaculture plot, we have an apple tree and a trained cherry (along the fence) then black, red and white currant bushes and a gooseberry. It works really well with the chickens as most stuff is too high for them to reach, but they get the benefit of all of our windfall fruit.

We're mainly known on the estate as 'the hippies with the chickens' Grin

OiMissus · 25/07/2011 09:47

"the hippies with the chickens" he he! I like that.
And yes - potatoes and carrots in deep buckets/containers work - but I've never tried it.

sevendwarves · 25/07/2011 10:31

kri5ty you can buy special potato growing sacks which are ideal for using on a patio, try QD or Wilkinson though as they're very overpriced in garden centres. We done 7 sacks with 2-3 in each, we've probably got enough potatoes to last at least the next couple of months.

I'm laying on the sofa taking it easy today, I've been up with sickness and dihorrea (sp?) most of the night. DS has been throwing up all night as well. Poor DH let me sleep on the sofa (downstairs bathroom) while he looked after DS, he's gone to work on about 2 hours sleep!

kri5ty · 25/07/2011 10:38

awwww no seven big hugs :( make sure you drink plenty of liquid young lady hehe :o i am off to wilkinsons next week so i will have a nosey for them :)

Hippies with the chickens i love it!!

stich how are you doing hun xx

kri5ty · 25/07/2011 12:56

Ps... is anyone else developing a beard? To my horrow i spent 20 mins plucking away on saturday... really really fine, blonde baby hair all over the sides of my jaw/ neck!! they were like an inch long too! I was mortified... i spotted one, but once i started there was loadssss of it! Really fine, fluffly baby hair!!

OiMissus · 25/07/2011 13:02

Oh dear! No, no beard here!
I read somewhere that it's quite common to grow hair on your stomach and breasts - and this means that you're having a boy and your body's got confused by the testosterone it's producing.

kri5ty · 25/07/2011 13:10

I have on my stomach the same fine blonde hair... non on my breasts though... i must be having an alpha male with all this hair i have developed!! I guess i will know on thursday :o

KateM77 · 25/07/2011 13:26

20 week scan today and I'm pleased to report all looks good with baby. We could see everything really clearly and it kept putting its hands and feet in its mouth. Baby is breach at the moment but plenty of time to move. Placenta is posterior, but at least not low-lying this time like it was with DD.

Unfortunately DD is poorly. She's been throwing up off and on since Fri. She seemed fine again yesterday afternoon and this morning, but threw up lunch :( Going to try and see Dr this afternoon if possible. It's all a bit odd as she seems fine otherwise and has no temperature.

sevendwarves · 25/07/2011 14:31

Just be thankful they're fine and blonde!

sevendwarves · 25/07/2011 14:32

Oh no Kate sorry your DD is poorly. Glad the scan went well though.

Mrsxstitch · 25/07/2011 17:05

Just back from 20 wk scan, another girl! Grin

Hope your dd is feeling better soon kate

aethelfleda · 25/07/2011 19:13

Oh dear kate, hope it's just a virus and over with soon for DD. And hope you don't get it, tummy bugs are miserable when you're pg!

Love the chicken idea seven. we have a little veg patch in the garden. Briefly thought about chickens but our crazy animal loving neighbour puts dog food out on trays for the (many) local foxes, so we figured that even a fox-proof eglu would be viewed as a one-stop chicken kebab shop....

sevendwarves · 25/07/2011 19:54

aethelfleda your neighbour sounds bonkers very animal loving! Why would anyone want to encourage foxes?!

KateM77 · 25/07/2011 20:39

Thanks everyone. Saw Dr this afternoon and he thinks it's a virus. He's surprised it's gone on for as long as it has, but is happy she's not dehydrated and seems fine otherwise. He doesn't think she should be infectious but not going to work / nursery tomorrow to be on the safe side. Hoping for a day free of sick before we go back. She managed some plain toast this evening and has eventually gone off to sleep (very unhappy that she didn't have her bedtime milk, which is apparently bad for poorly tummy's). Hoping that she'll have a good night and start to keep things down from tomorrow.

Pleased to hear your scan went well too mrsxstitch

Awomancalledhorse · 25/07/2011 21:32

Stupid question, what is a bounty pack & when are you supposed to get them?

Glad it's 'just' a virus Kate
Kri5ty, no beard here, but my stomach is almost as hairy as DH's!
Went into Dorothy Perkins on the off chance they may have my size, found the dress I've been wanting for over a month, in my size, reduced; yaaaay!
Also went to the cinema at 4:30, and was fighting the urge to sleep from about 5 Blush.
