Lets get with the glow :)

Sorry, that was a feeble and geeky joke. Defenestration = putting something out of the window, as in the First and Second Defenestrations of Prague.

LittleMissFlustered · 05/07/2011 22:54

Apologies Plu, was fielding kids and cats. I know the definition. I was intending to infer that windozy products are particularly isolationist also. However, the calls for toast and other foodstuffs forced me to get on with posting. My humour drive is malfunctioning,as my flop of an AIBU thread has proved this evening:o Think my bed might be calling...

BeeMyBaby · 06/07/2011 08:49

I think I had my first braxton hicks yesterday, don't remember any in my previous pregnancy and started to panic I was going into some kind of extreme early labour - happily they stopped and I felt lots of baby movements afterwards. Anyone else been feeling them? I googled and found that they can be felt as early as 16 weeks.

msbuggywinkle · 06/07/2011 08:57

Bee not felt any here, but I don't seem to feel them at all (hmmm...perhaps that's why I've had long pre-labours!).

I'm doing nothing today, DD2 is waking early, DD1 is going to bed late, I'm tired!

HoneyLovesCake · 06/07/2011 09:05

Morning ladies,

Had a wonderful long weekend in the the New Forest but it seems a distant memory now I need more holidays! :o

kri5ty i've had that pressure/pain on my bladder thing you described...I had it along with trouble peeing a few weeks ago so suspected a UTI & got tested but it was all ok. At my 16 week appointment when the midwife was searching for a heartbeat she said that baby was still very low considering where the top of my uterus is so could be lying on or close to my bladder causing my discomfort. Maybe this is your problem too? I have a doppler & I'm still finding the heartbeat below my bikini line even thought there's clearly plenty of space elsewhere given my now obvious bump.

aethelfleda I've sent you a PM re those preloved nappies sites you mentioned; hope that's ok.

msbuggywinkle I am Envy of you not putting on any weight. I put on almost a stone in the first trimester; have thankfully slowed the weight increase now & at 18 weeks am a full stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight.

Does anyone know if they weigh you at your 20 week scan? I was feeling upbeat at my 12 week scan until they took me off & weighed me Hmm...don't want anything putting a dampener on the experience this time so I might just refuse. Blush

ThePippy · 06/07/2011 09:58

honey did they do bloods for downs testing at the 12wk scan? They need an accurate weight for comparison of blood results which is the only reason I can think they weighed you. Last pregnancy I was ONLY weighed once for the bloods, and I definitely looked overweight (BMI at least mid 30's) so I was suprised. This time so far is the same, only weighed me for bloods and to get accurate BMI for risk assessment, but haven't weight me since even though BMI was slightly over 40 this time.

HoneyLovesCake · 06/07/2011 10:24

Ooh, didn't know that about the downs test; yes they did take blood. Wouldn't have been so bad but apparently my home scales are wildly inaccurate & the nurse actually laughed in my face when I told her what I'd weighed myself as that morning :(

I'm sticking with my home scales weight as that's how I weighed myself pre-pregnancy & my booking appt was done at home so it makes sense to me.

ThePippy · 06/07/2011 11:10

that's terrible that the nurse laughed at you! They do get a bit sniffy about home weights but there is no need to laugh at you!

You are right though, even if your home scales weigh different to the ones elsewhere, they are at least accurate in terms of comparison weights from the start to where you are now so I would def go with them in terms of your own weight monitoring. Plus I find my weight varies a lot depending on time of day or whether I have just eaten/drunk so getting weighed naked first thing in the morning is way more accurate than necessarily some slightly better scales at the doc's which are impacted much more by what time and what you have done.

HoneyLovesCake · 06/07/2011 11:35

I thought it was a bit mean but to be fair there was a difference of about half a stone Blush so maybe she was just shocked; not very professional though as she hadn't even looked at my notes at this point so for all she knew she could've been dealing with someone who'd previously had an eating disorder. Anyway, I'm glad to know I don't have to think about it at all now :o

DarciesmumandBump2 · 06/07/2011 11:44

Hey Ladies,

got my 16 week antenatal check up later so will find out how much weight i've put on.

Those of you who are on 2nd & 3rd pregnancys etc. When did you really start to feel the baby kick?

I'm 16 weeks tomorrow, and don't feel it very often, but sure I felt one big kick and now nothing again. Is this normal, can't remember with my last pregnancy?

ThePippy · 06/07/2011 12:46

hi darcies I was sure I was feeling flutterings before scan (which was at 13 weeks) then it seemed to stop and then nothing until about 17 weeks and I have felt it fairly consistently since. I don't feel kicks, more sensations as if the baby is stretching or pushing into my muscles etc.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 06/07/2011 13:21

Pippy I thought I was feeling flutterings almost like bubbles popping. not all the time. Seemed to stop but got what felt like a really big kick earlier. Prob my body playing tricks on me lol.

msbuggywinkle · 06/07/2011 14:18

Darcies I'm not feeling flutterings (16 weeks) just feeling occasional kicks, mostly in the evenings when I'm sitting down. This is DC3 for me.

thinkingpositive · 06/07/2011 16:29

1st time mums, any movements? Im 17 weeks tomorrow & nothing yet....Sad Getting very excited though....Grin

HoneyLovesCake · 06/07/2011 16:48

I'm a 1st timer. I'm 18 + 5; started feeling very occasional movements a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't a flutter or a pop (as I'd heard it described) more of a flick I guess so I wasn't sure it was the baby but now I am as they're coming a lot more often & today I've been getting occasional stretchy feelings too. All very weird but nice :)

aethelfleda · 06/07/2011 21:19

I've got two DDs and I found the best time to "check" for early movements was in the early evening. Find the sofa and park yourself on it, preferably lying down, preferably with a good supply of ice cream or chocolate and a book/telly/radio on.

Theory is that beeb thinks "hey! Why did my rocking cradle stop?", and wakes up and kicks you! It's always the time of day when I first noticed movements.
Am 15 weeks and the odd vague sensation, but nothing big or frequent yet.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 07/07/2011 07:46

Had my 16wk check yesterday - everything is going well and MW is happy. Smile

Asked MW about movements and pointed to the place where I felt the kick, and that's where she found the heartbeat so said it prob was.

My hips are sore and I have a headache Sad

kri5ty · 07/07/2011 07:59

Awomancalledhorse i live in manchester, so i guess there will be a few, i think i will need about 6 months experience, but i will def by applying (even though i won't actually be going to uni for another 3 years anyway!) Just a life plan haha

I am also thinking of going to do a course with NCT, which would allow me to take the antenatal courses :)

jomousei know that feeling, i like to plan everything down to the last detail, and i had a breakdown because i didnt know how many sleepsuits/long sleeved baby grows to get... i got all worked up because i didnt know the difference etc and had a panic!

LittleMissFlustered thats fantastic about the fingers on the scan hehe, our LO is scratching its bum on the photo! must be a boy lol

Although today i have just had the total opposite moment, and have been sat in work nearly crying as i am so happy and feel so lucky, i can;t wait! :o

msbuggywinkle · 07/07/2011 09:04

Feeling good here this morning, really great nights sleep (erm, went to sleep at about 9pm, so did DP!). Wish it wasn't pouring down though, I planned to kick the DDs into the garden so I could get on with a pile of work and I now need to give the chickens a bath because they are covered in mud!

Will have to fit the work in, my new breast feeding cafe opens tomorrow, I'm very excited!

kri5ty have you thought about doing a doula course so you can get experience? One of my friends is doing this, she plans to doula occasionally for a couple of years before uni.

Nads320 · 07/07/2011 13:41

Hi All
I'm a late addition to this thread. Am 15+0 with my second which is due on my birthday.
Have been feeling what I think a little flutters for a couple of weeks now..
It reassuring to think I?m feeling something.. hate the long waits in between seeing someone. Not sue to see MW till Monday the 18th cant remember if she should be able to hear heartbeat , think its possible to hear from 16 weeks.

Mizza76 · 07/07/2011 17:09

thinkingpositive - I'm a third time mum, 17+2, and still no movement....... Anyone else in that position?

kri5ty · 08/07/2011 08:01

They didn't even weigh me at my 16 week ap... never mind try and find a heartbeat!

thinkingpositive no movements here either, i am 17 + 3 first timer and nothing yet... i thought i had the "popcorn" feeling a few weeks ago, but nothing since, so it must have been gas after all!

msbuggywinkle I thought about a doula course, but i dont think i would be able to commit to it, as with my job, i couldnt "drop" everything if a lady went in to labour, and i would want to be avaliable anytime from 2 weeks before, until 2 weeks after if i was going to do it... really good idea though!!

Nads320 congrats hun :D where about are you from x

sevendwarves · 08/07/2011 09:21

Hi all. I had my 16 week appointment on Wednesday, in and out in about 5 minutes. My usual MW was on holiday, she was also away when I had my booking appointment so I haven't actually seen her yet, which is annoying as she's the same one I had last time and is lovely.

darcies your movements sound the same as mine, was feeling flutterings at 13 weeks which then stopped, a big kick last Friday but only a few small movements since. I can't wait until the movements are regular then we can stop worrying!

jomouse I recommend getting a pregnancy and birth book with a section on looking after a newborn and reading loads of pregnancy magazines. I had DS early before I'd had any antenatal classes but actually found that by having done plenty of reading I managed fine anyway.

kiteflying · 08/07/2011 10:22

Hello. May I join this club? I am not very good at keeping up with personals but do love the company of others.

I am 18 weeks plus 2 days pregnant with my second DC (surprise baby, please), and am thrilled as it has been a long IVF journey to get here. I don't have any movement yet, but was not expecting to as I felt not the slightest bubble with my DD until 22 weeks!

I am experiencing a lot more anxiety this pregnancy. I seem unable to get past two or three weeks without being desperate to hear his or her heartbeat again to reassure myself he or she is still alive.

My boobs kind of deflated today after weeks of being huge and I panicked and ran to my GP to have a doppler check. Now that I know he is OK, I am rather enjoying having normal breasts again actually. I know they will be huge milk monsters again come December.
Oh, and I am 43 years old, so my bub is officially an IVF miracle. I am already besotted, and stare at my scan photos all the time. Sometimes I even reach for the POAS test that first told me the good news. Just wish I could relax and enjoy as I did with DD. I have also had SPD kick in already, which is a nuisance as I was hoping to get really fit this trimester.
Congratulations to all the other posters on this thread on your pregnancies!

aethelfleda · 08/07/2011 19:38

Congratulations kite, you must be so pleased. IVF is such a gruelling thing to go through but brilliant when it works!

I'm tiiiiired today! But am so grateful as the sickness is waaay better.

And had some odd, creaky feelings in my pelvis today- can't be doing with any of that SPD stuff,my friend had it badly so I'm in denial. La la la, can't hear you (hope it bogs off soon!) talk about creaky body the third time around!
