Hugs xstitch. Don't think being down affects your baby. Did you see baby behind bars yesterday? Think how much better your doing than that.

LittleMissFlustered · 28/06/2011 22:42

I've had two babies through bouts of clinical depression xstitch and I promise you both are happy and well. Take care of yourself.

Tallulah1978 · 28/06/2011 22:49

Hi, thought I'd join the party. Have DS 3 yrs old and due with no.2 Dec 12th. Mumsnetted throughout my first pregnancy but not since. Feeling great at the moment and heard baby's heartbeat today. Hello ladies, nice to meet you .all. I'll have to lurk in the corner a bit and get to know everyone. X

DarciesmumandBump2 · 29/06/2011 07:47

Xstitch I think we all have our down days and its normal to feel anxious and worried at some point. Try not to think about it. Smile we are all thinking of you.

msbuggywinkle · 29/06/2011 08:38

xstitch I've been clinically depressed on and off for about 10 years and have a diagnosis of anxiety disorder. From what I've seen on other threads (not stalking you, I just tend to notice names from this thread!) having down times is a perfectly normal reaction to your situation which seems very stressful. If you can, I would take time to just focus on this baby, doing some pregnancy pilates/yoga/something else calming, having a bath and just concentrating on being with your baby.

I also find that concentrating on eating right and exercising helps me to feel both that I am doing a good enough job at cooking the baby and it also helps my mood generally. It is difficult, but you're down for a very valid reason and having times where you're down are totally understandable and will not harm your baby.

Tallulah Welcome! And congratulations!

I'm now off to run round manically (and try not to throw up on the way) as I'm taking the DDs to the theatre this afternoon to see 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'! Can't wait, a friend went yesterday and said it was great!

kri5ty · 29/06/2011 10:13

xstitch big hugs hun

try not to worry abut doing any harm, Bump will be fine :o as everyone has said pregnancy is a very stressful time!!

I have bee on medication for depression before, and before pregnancy i was ok, i still feel better compared to then, but i still have bad days (thats last longer than a day) where i feel down, low, cry... i hate to admit it, but those pesky hormones have a lot to answer for!!

kri5ty · 29/06/2011 10:15

Tallulah1978 hello :)

I am an wee lurker too, i read everyday, but im terrible at remembering who said what haha oooops Blush

congrats ... your due the day before me... im feeling an appearence at christmas dinner for me as it is my 1st lol

plupervert · 29/06/2011 10:16

If you're feeling anxious, come and have a laugh on this thread, and remember that people have done properly dreadful things to their children for many centuries of civilisation. Chemical things, like lead to lighten the face, old-fashioned hair dyes, loads of laudanum, keeping stays over a baby, thalidomide (God forbid), etc.

Stress is at least composed of natural human hormones, and at this stage is probably doing more harm to you than to the baby.

Mizza76 · 29/06/2011 11:54

Sending hugs your way xstitch.

I popped into the maternity day unit at my hospital today as I had a physio appointment anyway. They basically said that 16 weeks was very early to be feeling the baby but they had a listen anyway. Of course it took them ages to find the heartbeat and I was lying there practically having a heart attack but they did find it in the end and I feel a lot better.... for a couple of days anyway (knowing me!).

xstitch · 30/06/2011 06:17

Has anyone else had any trouble with their doppler? Tried to use mine this morning and can't hear a thing.. Tapped it and cant even hear that.. Freaking out even though common sense says its the doppler not baby. Its the angel sounds one btw.

thinkingpositive · 30/06/2011 08:32

xstitch a friend of mine had one, stopped working (couldn't even get her own heart beat) send it back. You bought it off amazon? They are very good, they will dispatch another one the same day!I've got one and mine works fine. Loving mine... Don't stress...Everything is ok..

xstitch · 30/06/2011 08:36

Have done the online return bit and new one arranged fir dispatch. Its definitely the doppler as there is no sound even if I touch the plate or whatever the proper name is for it.

ThePippy · 30/06/2011 09:00

xstitch have you has it working before? I was a bit thick when mine arrived and looked in the battery compartment and thought it was all attached, but hadn't noticed that the battery was actually still shrink wrapped and the wrong way round. I spent ages thinking it was broken before I realised. Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

xstitch · 30/06/2011 09:03

Yes, I had had it working. Have checked the battery, taken it out and replaced it, checked the headphone cables for kinks and unplugged and plugged it back in. The light on the front comes on so there is power just no noise.

Xiaoxiong · 30/06/2011 10:06

xstitch this is why my DH refuses to get a doppler - he's worried that it will cause more worries than it solves because sometimes the baby is just hiding or, as in your case, the actual doppler is broken - but it still stresses you out!

Not many updates on my end, just that I had a few hours on Kensington High St last Saturday to buy maternity clothes. I was so proud of myself too - I even went through my whole wardrobe that morning separating out things that I can't wear right now, things that will last a couple more weeks, and things that will (hopefully) last me through the rest of the pregnancy. Then I packed everything away that was too small and took stock of colours, shapes etc so I had a really good plan in mind of what I needed and didn't spend too much.

H&M was useless - all too casual and muddy colours - so I moved on to Gap - what appeared to be a very limited selection actually worked out fine for me (once I realised the sizes were US sizes and an 8 was actually a 12!) and got two pairs of jeans, one pair black twill and one pair linen trousers for work. They had t-shirts as well but the were too big for me at the moment - I'll probably return later. I also now wish I had bought the denim shorts they had.

But best find was two tops from Seraphine - they have a shop on Kensington Church St, and a 50% off sale at the moment. They have weird sizing, 1 through 5 - but as a 10 on the bottom and 12 on top I found I fit into most size 3s and some size 2s. Now I've got my sizes I've ordered a couple more things online in their sale, as I work in quite a formal office and can't really get away with more casual clothes, even when pregnant!!

chocolatebourbon · 30/06/2011 10:47

Can anybody recommend a shop for maternity clothes for work (ideally internet based with a sale on and not weird sizing!)? I teach postgrad lawyers so need to look reasonably smart but not necessarily suited up. When is everybody planning to go on maternity leave? My work are pressuring me to give a date but I'm really not sure at the moment...two weeks before due date seemed a bit late for me last time, but obviously the longer I can stick it the more time I will get afterwards.

jomouse · 30/06/2011 14:39

chocolate - Seraphine & Isabella Oliver worked for me, although I found them pretty pricey - they do seem to have sales on regularly.
I am saving up my holidays this year so I can take a month - 2 weeks doesn't seem enough somehow. I am lucky to accrue holiday in the time that I'm off (anyone else?) so will stick those 28 days onto the end to eake it out as long as possible

re: maternity clothes: last time, I got some soft jersey maternity trousers with a very comfortable waistband from M&S. They could be dressed up with a jacket or structured cardi (I think it's easier to fudge a fit with tops). However, I'm not sure whether that will be available for the summer season. Gap was also all right, although one pair of trousers ended up very short.

Basically, I had a capsule wardrobe (mwah, darling: so chic) for bottoms and varied my tops, which I found the most practical and cost-effective way of sorting the wardrobe.

My ribcage has expanded into a pigeonbreast! However, my cup size is still the same (having settled down from the first trimester's let's-make-milk entusiasm), so I may go for bra extenders. I used an extender on my underwired swimming tankini top when on holiday recently, which I got from my local haberdasher's, although if you are doing an order from JoJoMamanBebe, they also have packs of extenders, along with lots of other practical things, some nice-looking maternity wear and a sale on at the moment. Their baby/child clothes are also of excellent quality and re-sellable as a brand on eBay.

BeeMyBaby · 30/06/2011 15:00

Last time I planned to work up to my due date, but then didn't really manage as DD was born at 37.3 weeks, but did work up to the day before that, and had no problems doing that. This time i'm hoping to work up till my EDD again, but I'm thinking of dropping to three days a week from about 32 weeks as I have alot of holiday leave to use up.

Awomancalledhorse · 30/06/2011 16:21

xstich (and everyone else with a Angelsounds)...I hope it's not just me, but I didn't realise how much white noise they made, have to turn it right down to hear it, but we've found heartbeat 2 out of times.

Maternity clothes; would it be acceptable to wear a kaftan as an everyday top in London? They look so roomy (only my strechy dresses fit atm)!
I don't have to worry about maternity leave (being a housewife..the 'boss' has ok-ed me putting my feet up until Dec) but DH is taking his huge 5 days off from the 29th dec-2nd Jan (in the time we've been together, this will be the first NYE he won't be working)!

msbuggywinkle · 30/06/2011 18:59

Maternity clothes, first time round (when I was working, all those years ago!) next were surprisingly good as were Dorothy Perkins if you don't want to spend much.

We're really lucky, DP's work closes for a fortnight over Christmas, so as I'm due on the 17th we'll have ages off. I imagine I'll go around my due date, DD1 was prem but DD2 was just 4 days early.

figgygal · 01/07/2011 08:10

17 weeks today 8lb weight gain and still not much of a bump just looking chubby come on bump how's everyone else looking?

jomouse · 01/07/2011 08:58

figgygal - haven't weighed myself but did get the immortal comment "how can you only be 18 weeks, you look HUGE??!!"
Instead of dissolving into tears on the spot I have been reasoning that at 5'1 and size 8 the bump is probably showing on me more....or something....gulp!
Has anyone got unsolicited bump fondling happening yet, someone I didn't know that well did it to me at work the other day. I nearly went postal!

Awomancalledhorse · 01/07/2011 09:47

jomouse, I'm normally a size 8 & 5'4 I've got a massive bump (it cropped up over night, honestly!). DH keeps touching me there, so I grab hold of his (non-exsistent) man boobs, it works on him but not sure how effective it will be against random old lady bump fondlers Grin.

Figgygal, I've gained a stone, I'm 15 weeks.

Tallulah, I missed your post! So a late welcome!

figgygal · 01/07/2011 10:12

I'm 5 10 and was a size 12/14 been a healthy weight for last 10yrs when weighed self this morning and it hit 13 stone wanted to cry I will be distraught if I reach 14 I guess I will. I just look and feel fat at moment its not a pronounced or obvious baby bump yet I expect with my height it won't be as striking as a petite persons
