Innocent, my life was like that when I had dd last year, in the space of three months dh and I found out we were expecting, produced his last play, moved house and got married, it was bedlam. i don't envy you at all! This time round all we're doing is opening a theatre and renovating a house, easy!

Has anyone started thinking about hospital v homebirth yet? I had a homebirth last time and would prefer to do so again this time if possible. Happy to answer questions if anyone else is thinking about homebirth.

Took my first pregnancy nap today, it's finally starting to feel real!

All my love ChocolateSparkle. Best of luck for the future x

InnocentRedhead · 20/06/2011 18:37

Oh yeah Needle, that reminds me, we are planning our wedding too, getting married 24/07/12, so a while yet, but this next year and a half will be tumultuous. Bloody hell, you are keeping the chaos up then this second time?!

gonerogue, I have only told one person who lives a fair way away who is pregnant herself, more of a confidant. And would you like fries with that mcchicken sandwich :P

Funny you should mention that Needle, I am looking at a home water birth OR a hospital with minimal consultant influence, I don't want an involved delivery. And I can't have pethadine and epidural anyway! There is no baby centre near where I will be living and the two hospitals I live between both have a NICU and SCBU which for me stands at utmost importance for the safety and health of my baby, if i decide on a homebirth as they are easy to get to and my local hospital is my preference. It will be something I decide on through the pregnancy, if I have a great pregnancy and breeze through it then I will definitely go for the home birth option. Hope that makes sense.

I had my first nap on Saturday t'was great!! Struggling to find it real but still excited all the same! Bloody hell, my posts always seem to be essays!!

puzzletree · 20/06/2011 19:03

Wow you all sound very busy! I'm just enjoying pretty lazy days.

I'm down for a homebirth. Had one last time and it was fantastic. I wasn't confident enough to have one first time round as I wanted access to all pain medication and emergency care. However my first birth, although not a great experience, was a natural delivery with just G&A so we decided to go for a homebirth second time. Also we aren't far from the hospital and it made childcare easier to manage. We're lucky in that they're pretty pro-homebirth in our area (I now know a lot of people who have had them) and I ended up with 2 midwives all to myself for most of the day, much better care than I got in hospital! Hoping for similar this time. But obviously it depends on risk factors nearer the time.

Needle · 20/06/2011 19:19

Innocent pm me if you want to talk about it in more detail. It's not for everyone, but I lived it. PuzzleTree- glad i'm not the only one in favour!

pinkhollie · 20/06/2011 19:57

Saw my GP today, felt like a total waste of time, all he did was write on my notes I was pregnant. He asked no questions and gave no advice. It doesn't matter to me as an educated 30 something I sometimes feel that if anything I am overinformed. But I'm sure not everyone can be in the same position. Really hope that the midwife will be more useful.

Best wishes to chocolate and good luck in the future. X

CoffeeOne · 20/06/2011 20:18

sorry to hear that chocolatesparkle, best of luck for the future.

I have to hand in a pot of pee and my doctors tomorrow :/ not sure what they do after that. I hope my GP is more helpful pinkholli! I took a digital test yesterday and it came up Pregnant 3+ weeks which was pretty cool to see :) v excited and nervous!

QueenFee · 20/06/2011 20:19

All the best chocolate x good luck

I have to have a hospital birth. I would have considered it if I was closer to hospital but even by ambulance it would take 20 min which with my history is prob not a good idea. However I like to keep birth as natural as possible even in hosp.
I have my 1st mw appointment on monday.

louby86 · 20/06/2011 20:38

pinkhollie my GP did exactly the same, filled in some forms, made sure I was taking folic acid and told me the midwife will be in touch! She rang me though the next week and explained what my first appointment would involve and also put it in a letter to me which was great. I think unless you have any problems the GPs just pass everything on to the midwives now. Got my first appointment July 11th, I'll be 8 weeks ish then. I've noticed that some people on here have had really early midwife appointments too, just hoping I won't have a really long wait to get a scan

PamBeesly · 20/06/2011 20:43

I went to the GP today and had a similar experience to you Pinkhollie, while the doctor was nice it was underwhelming, just filled in forms and asked about folic acid. Didn't do a test to confirm or weigh me. Then again I've never gone through it so its probably standard procedure.

woowa · 20/06/2011 20:49

just spent half an hour catching up on al the news!!

Scan tomorrow morning, so excited/nervous, to see if there is really anything there, if there is one or two, and if everything looks ok. I'm so sorry for those of us who have lost little ones in the last few days.

Completely exhausted, which helps me feel pregnant.

Booking appointments, i think they are short with DC1 because there is no massive birth history to discuss. I'm expecting mine to be quite long as i'm a high risk because of kidney disease, AND i had a post partum haemorrhage with DD1, so i don't think i'll even be allowed a midwife led birth this time. Any old timers know anything different?

Anyway, i'll let you all know about the scan, then i'm off on hols for a couple of weeks in the evening. Phew - rest and no housework!!

PDog · 20/06/2011 20:50

chocolate so sorry to hear your sad news, hope everything works out for you in the future.

MissRed keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I didn't even see my GP last time, had to take a sample in and the receptionist confirmed my pregnancy Shock. Had to go in person too as they couldn't tell me over the phone Hmm. Have moved since then though and my new surgery seem a bit more professional.

Home birth has crossed my mind, mainly because I would like a water birth but the local hospital doesn't have any birthing pools. My DH is a neat freak though and not sure what we would do with DD - she would prob want to get in for a swim!

MissRedIndie · 20/06/2011 20:53

Hi everyone, doctor was lovely but not able to help much. She said that I just have to watch and wait and see if the bleed continues. I'm to do another pregnancy test in a week and if it says I'm still pregnant then they'll send me for a scan, but I'm too early to be scanned at the moment.

In a way, I'd rather just have someone tell me now that it's over so that I don't have this continuing hope being dragged out!

Will keep you all updated, thanks for your messages and support x

puzzletree · 20/06/2011 20:54

I've never seen a GP when pregnant, at our surgery you book direct to the midwife. and I've never had a confirmatory pregnancy test either, they just take your word for it. I don't think GPs are that clued up on pregnancy as they have midwives to take care of antenatal care while they specialise in other areas. Don't expect too much from them!

puzzletree · 20/06/2011 20:56

MissRed sorry you're in limbo :( it must be so tough. Really hoping things work out well...

louby86 · 20/06/2011 21:01

Thinking of you missred hope things work out ok for you x

puzzletree · 20/06/2011 21:04

(sorry, another post)
PDog I had a water birth at home, in the front room, it wasn't all that messy, we just had lots of old towels and a shower curtain covering the ground between the pool and the sofa. I gave birth in the pool but then came out for the 3rd stage. DP had the fun job of filling and emptying it (yuk!). DS1 was almost 2 and my mum came over to look after him, he was just upstairs having a nap and then playing. They came down soon after DS2 was born and it was just lovely really. Managed to keep DS1 out of the pool! He was pretty excited by the midwives and the biscuits.

pinkhollie · 20/06/2011 21:13

Forgot to say best wishes to MissRed too.

RE my GP he didn't even mention folic acid that is how little information there was!

mistressploppy · 20/06/2011 22:30

Grin at your DS1 getting excited by the biscuits, Puzzle!

Crazybit · 20/06/2011 23:06

Tentative hello from me due to a M/C in March. Had a suprise positve yesterday, me and OH have only done the deed once in the past couple of months and it was way off the days that I should have been ovulating...not told OH yet as he is away with work. I have been moving house all week last week, lifting heavy boxes and straining myself a lot so not sure what the outcome will be..

Am due 25th according to last period or 20th according to conception, not sure which should be used. Not even registered with a doc yet, how early do people let docs know?

Don't think it's sunk it yet, am quite tired and a bit nauseus but that is all, keep waiting for the bleeding to start to be honest.

OddEyes · 20/06/2011 23:27

Not going to be able to keep up with this bus! Will try my best but please excuse my missing things in my scan reading the last 20 pages of posts!

Welcome to the newbies. Is this a baby boom, list seems much longer than my other antenatal groups? I wonder if I will have a seat to myself for very much longer?

Sorry to hear of those leaving the bus and also those with worries. It is such a difficult time. I miscarried at 9 weeks between ds1 and dd1. I hope that you have folk looking after you. There a lot of good threads on here to help you through too. Rest well and I hope that there are positive stories still to come.

Woowa - Yay for scan hope it all goes well. I had a pph with DS1 and was allowed a midwife lead birth but had to have a doctor present at the moment of birth due to her size and my history, was all lovely. You get a lovely drip for ages and have your pads closely observed for a while afterwards so you may have to stay in depending on the time of birth.

Told our first folk tonight - the vicar and his wife, just got to the point where we were unable to converse normally without telling them.

Opps, going to feel super pants in the morning. Night all!

hermionejgranger · 21/06/2011 06:10

Hi All...have been watching this thread for a while now and wondering whether to post or not! I'm a first timer and apparently due around 20 Feb. Scared as anything and not really believing it's real...not least because the GP I saw for about 3 minutes "confirmed" by saying "how many days late are you?...well then you probably are PG" and then asked why I'd come to see him!

I guess it's just the waiting game now - have my 1st MW appointment on 6 July and am hoping for some reassurance and information (although I think I've used our entire broadband allowance this month googling various PG stuff).

hermionejgranger · 21/06/2011 06:26

Not sure what the etiquette is for condolences to those who have had sad news but I'm expressing them anyway... x

Needle · 21/06/2011 09:03

hermione i bought "My Pregnancy bible" for my first pregnancy, and it was pretty much all u needed, it's very in depth and has interuterine photos for each week of your pregnancy. 20th Feb is shaping up to be very popular!

Any other mums in central London or Lambeth?

InnocentRedhead · 21/06/2011 11:13

Hey all, to those who felt underwhelmed by the doctors visit, so was i, however, when you have your booking appointment with the midwife, they do all the thing you expect the doctor to do. When i saw the doctor he basically just said congratulations, put it on my notes, advised about folic acid, which i was already taking and then advised me to keep a healthy diet. At the midwife it was then that my height, weight, BP blood taken etc. were done. I think it is just to keep a load off the doctor, which i feel makes sense. If i would have had any questions (which i didn't) he would of answered them anyway. They really do take your word for it, but i don't think anyone would turn up at doctors not having a positive test.

One thing to remember ladies and this is invaluable advice!!! When you have your first doctors or midwife appointment, ask at reception for your medical exemption form, as ALL medical treatments, prescriptions and dentistry is now free Fill it in whilst in the waiting room and get your doctor or midwife to sign it!!!!

The pack that you get from the midwife is fantastic too, full of vouchers for free stuff, not only money off. I found a voucher for a pack of free 27 nappies and i was like wahey! Runs out in September but may as well start early if they are free!! I am not sure if all areas do it (West Yorkshire) and in the pack you also get what i can only describe as a textbook full of EVERYTHING you could think of. Probably the only thing that you can get given on NHS really!!

Anyone in West Yorkshire then? Hi to all the new mums on here and MissRed i hope it turns out for the best xx
