hey ladies & congratumalations to all the newcomers!

chatting to dh last night and we realised something! February is a special month as there is the prospect of us having leap year babies! OK my due date would have to be accurate and my baby would have to hate me enough to be 12 days late. But think of how mch you'd save on birthdays! :op

puzzletree · 17/06/2011 07:34

Lola I didn't watch the programme, but I'm sure it wouldn't be showing the whole picture. Try not to worry, how does the system work there anyway? Is it all consultant led? And do you get a lot of choice of who/where provides your maternity care? I'd have thought as a second timer your wishes may have more weight? Fingers crossed you can get a plan you're happy with.

melliebobs · 17/06/2011 07:40

oh is this OBEM USA? I've recorded it to watch later today. I don't know why but when i've seen like Teen mom and other birth programmes set in america it doesn't give a very positive image. It seems all women are stuck in a bed and drugged up and not really encouraged to walk about and stay active?! Intregued to watch this to see if it's any different

puzzletree · 17/06/2011 08:09

Didn't Ricki Lake do a documentary, called something like "the business of being born" about the over-medicalised births in the US. It's supposed to be good but I haven't watched it.

currybaby · 17/06/2011 08:33

morning and congrats to all new bfp'ers

i'm so glad to have a day off work today after a hectic week as i've been so tired! apart from tiredness i'm still not having many symptoms - apart from the boobs - every time i get worried about it i give the boobs a squeeze and they're so sensitive i know i must still be pregnant!

puzzletree i've been looking at the baby centre website each week to see how its growing - its the size of a grape now at 7 weeks. although my stomach is bloating massively already i look about 4 months.

i've just looked up a pregnancy yoga video on you tube i'm gonna do a bit of that this morning as i haven't done any exercise since i found out - i realise that's crazy , and its good to hear the advise that exercise is ok (i usually cycle to work and do want to get back to doing that for the next couple of months) but i'm too intent on resting as soon as i get a chance.

i flicked onto the One Born Every Minute USA - i used to love watching the UK one before i was pregnant but i can't watch it now it freaks me out too much - now i know it could happen to me quite soon! the bit i saw i thought the hospitals seemed to be much more luxurious but there doesn't seem to be the mutual respect between the parents and the staff like the UK one - the UK one they all seemed to be working together better through the labour.

harrietlichman · 17/06/2011 08:55

morning all - AJ - I run regularly and asked my gp about carrying on at this stage, she advised I just stick to walking (had previous m/c though, which is why she urged a bit more caution) I am missing running and woke up feeling very fed up today, got a 'bad feeling' don't know why. Might be imagining things but feel like taking another test. Am trying not to get too obsessed about it all, and dh is telling me to relax and have a 'what will be, will be' attitude but I am just on a downer...Sad

aj71 · 17/06/2011 10:16

AlpinePony I'm sure not running is the right choice for me. I've had a missed miscarriage as well as losing my daughter at 21 weeks. So whilst I'm sure you meant nothing by it, your comments seemed really unnecessary. I thought we were here to support each other.

AlpinePony · 17/06/2011 10:19

aj - I apologise, I hadn't realised that it was "unsupportive" to say "you may still happily continue to exercise". :)

aj71 · 17/06/2011 10:26

AlpinePony It might well be 'fine' but I'm not medically qualified to comment on that - perhaps you are But with my history and age, I've chosen not to because, as I said, I'd never forgive myself if something happened.

harrietlichman · 17/06/2011 10:37

AJ, I don't think AlpinePony knew about your history, and was probably assuming you hadn't had any previous problems. When I had my firt two dc's I carried on running till I was nearly 6 months but having had the m/c since then (and being a bit older) the gp advised me against it. I think everyone has to make their own judgement on whether exercise is right and comfortable, or if they feel better not doing any, I am missing it though, feel like a bucket of lard.

aj71 · 17/06/2011 11:51

And she's entitled to her opinion. As I said, in my first post, it's a choice. I've chosen not to. I really didn't expect to have to justify not doing it.

LolaRennt · 17/06/2011 13:46

Lola I didn't watch the programme, but I'm sure it wouldn't be showing the whole picture. Try not to worry, how does the system work there anyway? Is it all consultant led? And do you get a lot of choice of who/where provides your maternity care? I'd have thought as a second timer your wishes may have more weight? Fingers crossed you can get a plan you're happy with.

From what I know it is very doctorcentric. My first baby was born in the UK though, she was born Jan this year, so it's all still fresh in my mind. I was very pleased with the midwives who delivered me and the care I received, anytime they had to veer from my incredibly detailed birthplan they checked and rechecked with me and dh. I can't really see why doctors are necessary in a "normal" birth.

I won't have any choices I don't think as I will be receiving state care as I haven't got private insurance :( We only just moved here and hadn't been in a position to pay for private insurance yet. Although we haven't been here long enough for pregnancy care to be honoured by an insurance company yet anyway so maybe it was a good thing.

puzzletree · 17/06/2011 14:57

Lola That does sound a bit rubbish, I really hope you luck out with a sympathetic medical team. To be honest it's a bit of a lottery here as to how good the maternity care is, there have been some horror stories in the papers.

aj71 you don't have to justify your decision. We'll all make different choices in all kinds of scenarios along this journey, you have to do what works for you and what you're comfortable with.

No significant updates from me. Have been out most of the day so am happily enjoying my afternoon down time on the sofa with the boys thanks to Mr TV :)

BillComptonstrousers · 17/06/2011 15:36

Afternoon everyone!

I did mean to post this morning but got distacted at work watching out the window for nearly 7 hours with lots boring paperwork.

Hope everyone is feeling ok and that all these babies are sticking! I'm still getting mild cramps, no sickenss yet though thank goodness, but I'm sure it will come.

I seem to have disappeared from the list for some reason?? I was going to put my weight on there as well, as I really need to watch what I'm eating, since finding out I was pregnant it seems to have given me a free pass to shove everything humanly possible into my mouth without feeling the guilt I used to. Need to knock that on the head or I will regret it after the baby is born and I'm a massive fatty Smile

anyone else had any odd symptoms? I seem to have disturbingly itchy feet and hands, it's driving me crazy, and am constantly mixing my words up when I'm talking to people, pregnancy brain kicking in already!

diedandgonetodevon · 17/06/2011 15:53

I've suddenly become very clumsy and lost all sense of spacial awareness- parking the car is becoming a nightmare.
I can't remember this happening with my first.

melliebobs · 17/06/2011 17:41

billcomptonstrousers i've started getting symptoms dunno if they are wierd or not. I can't seem to speak a coherent sentance these past 2 days. Very embarassing when my work involves speaking to clients all day! I must sound thick as anything. I've also become really clumsy, i've tripped over the foot of an exercise bike, knocked over a cup of coffee and fired coffee granules and sugar everywhere, and had 2 near misses in my car today. That bit is a bit worrying, but it's like all sense of perception has gone out of the window. Past 3 days i've had a dicky tummy and spent a fair amount of time on the loo (tmi i know) AND i'm shattered!

It's all a bit wierd that all this has only happened since i found out on tuesday. Monday i managed to do a 4.5 mile run, ok it was a bit of effort, spinning on wednesday was torture but now i can't even bring myself to drag myself to the gym. I can't decide if my minds playing tricks or i actyally am this tired

m1nn1em0u5e · 17/06/2011 18:08

billcomptonstrousers I envy the fact that you can eat....my hyperemesis has reared its ugly head & im having a rough rough time :( Wishing these next few weeks away as I forgot how much hyperemesis wipes me out :(

OP posts:
babycarmen · 17/06/2011 18:13

I got REALLY bad cramps today when i was walking around town, i had to sit down then get a taxi home. I was in tears with pain and panic.. theyve gone now though, lasted about half an hour. No bleeding or anything so fingers crossed everything is ok :/ Surely that pain cannot be normal..

puzzletree · 17/06/2011 18:30

I think being able to eat helps massively. I feel shattered and I'm eating as normal, so seriously I don't know how you cope m1nn1em0u5e and others with hyperemesis. Fingers crossed it doesn't last long...

OddEyes · 17/06/2011 18:55

Tired out of brains
3 near misses in car
Nauseous in afternoon particularly
Can't stand brushing teeth
Lots of cramping
Vivid dreams Blush
Needing a wee every 30 mins
Extremely loose stools
Bloated beyond belief

...and only 5 weeks, last times 'twas 8wks started feeling pregnant! Twins?

mistressploppy · 17/06/2011 19:14

Oooh! Oddeyes qualifies as first 'twins contender'!!!

Oh wait, Woowa is a possibility too

Hi everyone, still no symptoms. Starting to think I dreamt that little pink line...Grin

OddEyes · 17/06/2011 20:02

Babycarmen, I remember cramps last time taking breath away and having to sit. When I had mc didn't feel anything like. Am i remembering rightly that you have another scan to put your mind to rest soon? Keep positive.

BillComptonstrousers · 17/06/2011 20:14

I obviously sounded far too smug in my last post about filling my face with food, as I am now laid in bed looking a little bit green...

On the plus side I get out of playing simpsons monopoly downstairs with the children Wink

And who do I have to pay to get on the damn list around here, I put myself on but I disappeared, is it VIP or something Smile

I feel like one of those Only Way Is Essex girls trying to get into china whites!

CoffeeOne · 17/06/2011 20:20

Hi guys, mind if I warily hop on?! I've had 2 strong bfps so I think I may actually be pregnant here! Due around the last week in February and freaking out!!!

BillComptonstrousers · 17/06/2011 20:25

Hellooo! I'm waving from my bed Smile
