Hi all, I hope everyone?s having a lovely weekend and making good progress on your massive to-do lists!
We took a one-off four-hour NHS antenatal class this morning, which was okay, but not nearly as good as our NCT classes. One really good aspect though was that the student midwife (who has been a nurse for quite a while) who was present is doing her dissertation on a natural vs. managed third stage of labour, so was able to provide good answers to my very specific questions. According to her research, the link between waiting until the cord stops pulsating to cut it and jaundice in babies is tenuous at best, and the benefits of the baby getting the cord blood far outweigh the potential risks. So I?m feeling pretty good about my original plan to have a natural third stage.
I also had a pregnancy massage last night, which was great. I would highly recommend it, if only for the chance to lay on your front for the first time in eight months!
I want to join the club of those raving about their DHs, as mine has also been fantastic lately. He has been very quick to complete all of his baby-related jobs, including assembling the nursery furniture, and has been so supportive of trying for a homebirth. I feel so lucky to be with someone who I know will make an amazing father.
How exciting Moufflon! Good luck and keep us posted!
HalleLouja, sorry you?re stuck in hospital. I hope the bleeding stops soon and is nothing serious.
Nomoreheels, sorry about your news. I agree though that it?s good that they are aware of the potential PE and monitoring you. Do try to focus on the fact that your baby is full-term and will be okay if they need to get him/her out soon.
8RD and Sasa, thanks for the reassurance about my dairy. I gave everything the old sniff test and it seemed to be fine, so have been consuming everything and haven?t felt sick. This is the sort of thing I wouldn?t have thought twice about before, but seems a bit more risky during pregnancy.
BPrincess, I?m also a first-timer, so not the best source of advice, but maybe keep an eye out for things like a baby gym, a bouncer chair or swing, etc? Things that will make your life easier by entertaining your baby if you need to tend to other things for a bit.
TTL, I would get a new mattress to be safe. The official guidance for mattresses is always to replace them for every child (even within the same family), and even if that is overcautious, 20 years is a long time for things like that to sit around.
