Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
8rubberduckies · 23/05/2011 09:27

Morning all - I dreamt I was interred in a Japanese POW camp and forced to lie on my left side for 2 weeks on the floor - woke up in tears of frustration and pain Sad Confused. Things are bad if sleeping is like torture. Oh well, only 30 sleeps til due date Grin.

sasamaxx · 23/05/2011 09:38

lol @ trimming stories - we don't have a trimmer so it will have to be scissors - no way could I trust DH so will need to come up with some other plan.

I'm also impressed by the spelling of manoeuvre, - always impressed by correct spellings of diarrhoea too lol

Sounds horrible 8rubberduckies - are you only lying on left due to OP position? I read an interesting thing the other day which said that there is absolutely no evidence to prove that you have any control whatsoever over the baby's position. It's all speculation.

Barbie I always thought that babies go still and quiet after sex because they are rolling their eyes and thinking 'well THAT was a bit inappropriate'.

That's my excuse for avoiding it anyway Wink

knackered76 · 23/05/2011 10:08

Sasa lol at 'well THAT was a bit inappropriate' Grin!

The pineapple thing was told to me by a midwife . . . . still not going to try it though!

Nurse Good luck :)

On the ironing front, not even sure I know how to do it . . . dh does it in our house seeing as I don't wear anything that needs ironing and the dc's crease everything up anyway!

No idea what's going on with my lady garden and not planning on finding out. The mw's will just have to suffer with what ever they are presented with (well, if you do choose a job that involves a lot of action down there . . . :))

Kara glad you're feeling a bit better today :)

Right then, another day another thousand things to do with no inclination to do any of them . . . . . . oh I do have a physio appointment this afternoon that I'm having to take both the children to, should be interesting!

takethatlady · 23/05/2011 10:11

sasa I am keeping mine as short as possible but I am doing it blind Blush Shock Grin Don't even know what it looks like prisoner and haven't asked DH - perhaps I should!!

barbie I think I have mild SPD too. What is yours like? If I walk/exercise (at all - i.e., if I move off the couch during the day Grin) my crotch aches like billy-o (no idea what that phrase actually means now I type it!). It's basically vagina/inner thighs, etc, as if I've run a marathon. It's been like that since 15 weeks but it doesn't stop me doing anything and it's never got any worse. Does that sound like it, or is that just normal pregnancy stuff?

nurse and lisascat I'm with you on ironing. My mum is constantly trying to get me to turn into an ironer - not because she ever sees me in wrinkly clothes, but because she hates ironing with a passion and a vengeance and if she's been through it for years she's sure as hell not going to admit it's pointless except for shirts (which DH does himself)! Good luck today nurse.

My mum threw me a baby shower on Saturday, which was basically a few lovely hours in the garden with friends and family, in the sunshine, eating cake, and an excuse to wear a nice dress. It was really lovely to catch up with lots of people, and then I went to a christening/baby birthday yesterday too with some of the same friends. Really really enjoyed it, but felt like utter shite afterwards - sooooooooo tired and thirsty, felt exactly as if I had a hangover. DH did have a hangover because he spent the hours of the baby shower in the pub with some of the redundant men. When I picked him up he'd lost his glasses, he was shouting very loudly about how shit everyone else was at pool (even though he lost 8-1) and then when we went out in the evening with some friends he forgot his shoes Hmm Grin (obviously we found the glasses and the shoes). So we were both a state yesterday! I was worried too as LO seemed barely ever to kick over the weekend, but I've had a good night's sleep and she's wriggling all over the place this morning :)

Hope everybody else is well :) 35+1 today.

CMH1stbaby · 23/05/2011 10:45

TTL - lol at your DH's drunken antics!!

Haven't been on over the weekend and a bit lost where to start, so sorry that I'm not commenting on everyone's news. I'm 36 weeks today and have decided to tackle some washing of baby things - reassured by everyone's lack of ironing!

I'm thinking of booking in for a treat later this week - baby massage, pedicure and a wax as I also suspect lady garden out of control... no clue if it is as haven't seen it for weeks!!

8 - re Lying on left side - I mentioned it to MW as have been getting really sore hips and she told me to abandon it, as sore hips were more likely to keep me awake / make me upset than the risk of lying on my right having an impact on the position of the bebe. She also told me lying on back is fine as long as not completely flat - she recommended two pillows under head and one under shoulders/ top of back, making a slope. Since I had this chat I've slept so much better...

have a good day everyone - I'm keen for more baby news, good luck to whoever's next!! I keep thinking I'll be soon but have to remember it could be another 6 weeks boo.....

misshoohaa · 23/05/2011 10:54

Hi all!
Lady Garden - I waxed mine last week (well the back bit and undercarraige) with some of those ready wax strips. Very glamourous, I worked out if I lay on my side with my leg hoisted up in the air, I could get quite good access! Neaten up the front in the mirror too. Made DH think he was in for some action, but haven't managed to get enthused for a week or two - it's all getting quite an effort now!

37 weeks today! So full term and means I am good for the birthing centre, so chuffed about that.

Happy Monday ladies, hope all those are enjoying MN and the few still working are taking it easy.

Joannezipan · 23/05/2011 11:14

I think I need to clarify that I am not a crazy ironing lady! I only ironed the baby's curtains becuase they got dirty plumbing finger prints all over them and then when I washed them the dried all creased up and the baby's bedroom needs to look nice at least to begin with! (Although DH admitted last night he scrached one of the walls so needs to "touch up" the paint work! Hmm) I don't iron anything else unless I have a wedding/interview/important meeting!

After today I have 4 more work days to go...I am 36+4 today. I can get through to the end of the month.

I hope nurse is doing okay on her driving test!

sasamaxx · 23/05/2011 11:27

Oh I know - hope to hear from Nurse soon

Moog72 · 23/05/2011 11:37

I never iron anything!

I am 36+6 today and am sooo tired. Only 4.5 days left at work though - hurray. not even sure why I can't sleep - but having gone to bed at 1am I woke up at 4am and that was it - aaargh!

DH went to the pub and watched football yesterday and got really really drunk - came home, was ill, fell asleep at 9pm and slept through til this morning while I was loking at him feeling really jealous of his sleep and really annoyed that he was so drunk! he hasn't gone to work today as has a hangover. Grrr.

TTL - baby shower sounds lovely :) You are obviously more good humoured about your DH's drunken antics than I was!

How did you get on Nurse?

CMH1stbaby · 23/05/2011 11:49

nurse - any news?! been keeping everything crossed..

PerpetualProvocateur · 23/05/2011 11:49

Hi ladies, I hope everyone had lovely weekends. We went to a wedding on Saturday and then got pregnancy photos taken yesterday?I?ll post them to my profile page once I get them (although I?m not sure that this will be before the baby comes!).

Friday night wasn?t as nice?I got myself worked up about some extreme swelling in my feet and ankles. I?ve had pretty consistent swelling for the past month or so, but it?s really bad now. I had a GP appointment only the day before, and my blood pressure had been higher than usual and there was a trace amount of protein in my urine. Once I started worrying about this combination, I couldn?t get it out of my mind and didn?t want to worry whilst we were travelling over the weekend, so I called my MW and triage, both of whom said I should go in (and were surprised the GP hadn?t sent me in the day before). They checked my blood pressure, which was still higher than usual, and my urine, which had no protein in it, and monitored the baby?s heart-rate for a while.

In any case, while my blood pressure isn?t high enough to be of concern in and of itself, it is quite a lot higher than at my initial booking appointments (I normally have low blood pressure), so the MW is a bit worried ? especially combined with the swelling. I?m hoping this doesn?t cause problems for my plans for a homebirth, as she is already inclined towards hospital births and mentioned that maybe I should try for the home-from-home suite in hospital rather than at home. But we live ten minutes from the hospital, and if I could give birth in the home-from-home suite, I see no reason I couldn?t just do it at home. I have to go in tomorrow to get my blood pressure and urine checked again, and if it?s still okay, I?m really going to push for the home birth.

Knackered - Grin at the pineapple suggestion! If it can be used to tenderise meat, it makes sense that it would help soften the cervix as well! Think I?ll stick to the more traditional means of consumption, though.

Sasa ? Grin at me going early?I think I have been taking it for granted that he will come on time or a bit late, which is usually the case in my family. But he?ll be full-term on Friday, so I should be ready any time after that! I?ve been nesting like crazy for the past couple of weeks, so there?s not much left to be done. As for lady gardens, I had DH help me tidy things up down there the other day with his electric trimmers Blush

Kara and Joanne, good luck with your plans for home births. I hope your babies are in the right position!

Happy belated birthday, Joanne and Monica!

Hope your test went well, Nurse!

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 12:12

You must've sent some very powerful good luck vibes everyone, I passed with 3 minor faults! Very, VERY happy and now all I need to do is have this baby! Am still not nesting and baby is still not even 1/5 engaged so it'll be a while yet I fear.

TTL LOL-ed at your DH losing his shoes and glasses! Baby shower shounds lovely :)

AlmightyCitrus · 23/05/2011 12:12

I'm sorry, I really don't understand what this "ironing" thing is. Should I google it? Or is it like "dragon butter" and best avoided?

Horrible weather here today. I went out earlier and realised I can't do my coat up now, so got rather wet.

I'm going to keep my pineapple on my pizza if it's all the same to everyone else! Spiky tropical fruit has it's place, and my lower lady areas aren't it!
Grin

When my DD1 was born, I went back to work and my mum looked after her. I bought a (rather distinctive) high chair to leave at her house, and after DD1, DD2 & DS eventually grew out of it we sold it on for £25 (which it what it cost in the first place). So, on saturday my mum rings and says there is a high chair "just like the dc's" been donated to the charity shop she works in. Do we want it? Yes we do. Get there, and it is the very same chair! Don't know where it's been for the last 6 years, but it's still in good condition. Smile

AlmightyCitrus · 23/05/2011 12:13

Oh, congratulations Nurse! That's brilliant!

PerpetualProvocateur · 23/05/2011 12:22

Congratulations Nurse! It must be quite a relief to have ticked that box!

motherofsnortpigs · 23/05/2011 12:26

Well done nurse ! Glad you got your highchair back Almighty

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 12:35

Thanks Grin

Wise words, AlmightyCitrus, very wise words. Also, how lucky you got your highchair back! Presumably for much cheaper than you bought it as well? I haven't even thought about highchairs yet

CMH1stbaby · 23/05/2011 13:00

well done nurse!!

love the way things like that happen almighty!!

I just heard that my best friend, whose baby was stillborn last year (after lots of problems that were apparent from 12 weeks on) is 20 weeks pregnant, and all scans, results etc have been "normal". am so so happy for her - she has to go for transfusions weekly because of a medical condition but at one point the doctors were saying another pregnancy was out of the question. I can't stop blubbing!!!! need to get myself under control or will scare the people in sainsburys, my next stop...

sasamaxx · 23/05/2011 13:18

Congratulations Nurse - well done!
CMH that's lovely to hear
I wish Almightycitrushad not just made me google 'dragon butter' Wink

Joannezipan · 23/05/2011 13:26

Congratulations Nurse - Well deserved after all your efforts/stresses!
I think Almightycitrus must have a very good Karma rating!
PP Hope you are feeling reasured by the trip to the monitoring unit and that you still get your home birth.
I have just had a very nice salad for lunch (tuna, egg and olive just in case you were wondering). Now I feel full and could really do with a nap!

Thornykate · 23/05/2011 13:44

nurse great news well done!

almighty that high chair is obv meant to stay in the family :)

pp hope everything stays undercontrol & you get the birth you want. If you don't mind me asking (or if anyone else knows) what is the acceptable range for BP to raise during pg? I usually have low BP the diastolic (bottom) number was 40 on booking which the MW said was "great" ( Hmm no love it's not great I was sick as a pig & probably dehydrated!) & it's never been above 50 until last weeks appt @ 39wks where it was upto 70. I also had trace protein but also leucocytes. I don't feel swollen though so am not worried it's just that lovely as my MW is I have lost a bit of faith in the team as they don't seem v on the ball. Or maybe I just need to have this baby & get out of bitch mode Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/05/2011 13:46

Really pleased to hear you passed your driving exam Nurse I meant to send you do well and pass vibes, but I was finally passed out asleep again by then.

I suspect my sore fanjo/leg is being caused by an infection as my glands down there are well up. I was hoping it was down to baby dropping and putting pressure on a rouge nerve or something, but alas no instead I'll be off to the Dr tomorrow because I cannot go on like this. I was actually contemplating baking at 4 am this morning (as it was a bit early to run the vaccum). The good news is I did make cake just before and once it's cooled enough to ice there will be yummy decaff coffee cake for all Grin

Sounds like people have had good weekends and Monday's so far (apart from you Moog just read back and saw your post. Hope you catch up on some sleep today while making your DH suffer Grin)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 13:49

Yey Nurse!! Congratulations!

CMH - what lovely news about your friend, hope the rest of her pregnancy goes well Smile

Almighty - that is brilliant about your high chair!

TTl - how kind of your mum to throw a baby shower! Glad you had a good time!

PP - good luck hope you can still have your HB, we also live only 10mins from the hospital and this was my argument as I am also booked into the MLU low dependency unit!

yey for everyone finishing work this week!

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 14:00

CMH that's wonderful news about your friends. Here's hoping she has a lovely pregnancy :)

Thorny In pregnancy they would start to worry if your BP got above 140/90.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 14:05

Forgot to say that I popped into Boots and got some Jasmine and Clary Sage oils, and some base oil as well. They have got loads of stuff on 3-4-2 so got the base oil free!
I already have some lavender oil so will make up a mix to use for massage and in the bath during labour.
