Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

Oooh nice Kara, I ordered some jasmine, clary sage, rose and lavender which arrived today so am going to use it in my oil burner during the big event

petitech · 23/05/2011 14:33

Thanks for the comments re cervical sweep, I wasn't expecting to be held down and forced as such, just wondered if midwives in general were very "pro" in a bossy way and if they were reluctant to induce you if hadn't tried a sweep first.
Definite NO to ironing of baby clothes. We have a cleaner every fortnight (sounds extravagant but worth every penny) and on the alternate weeks she's started taking the ironing - best plan ever!
Yeah to nurse on passing your driving test!!! Congrats!
Re lady garden, have done best I can with immac, a mirror and nail scissors!!! I am too embarassed to go for a wax so that will have to do!
Almighty what a lovely story about your highchair!
Am feeling quite tired now after aqua natal and lunch, debating on whether to find something to do or just give in to a nap :) Have a good Monday everyone!

Thanks, Joanne, Thorny and Kara.

Thorny, it is meant to be 140/90 when they would start worrying, and I am still under that; when I went in on Friday it was at 120/80, and the day before at my GP appointment it was 125/89 (the highest it's ever been). My MW said, however, that it could potentially be a problem when either or both numbers increase by 20 from your blood pressure at your booking appointment, and mine was 90/60 at my first few appointments. But I'm wondering if by going in I have made an issue out of a non-issue, as my blood pressure had been higher at my last several GP and MW appointments yet no one thought I should worry about it then Hmm

Nurse, my MW did mention that one potential complication with trying for a homebirth if my blood pressure was on the high side was that she couldn't administer syntometrin as it could cause it to rise even more, and they could only administer syntocin in hospital. Do you know anything about this? As I will be trying for a physiological third stage rather than managed anyhow, I don't think this would be enough to merit having to go to hospital.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/05/2011 14:39

Just have a nap Petitech No one here will tell WinkGrin

I think my lady garden is more of a cottage garden these days (kinda over grown and neglected). It gets a bit of a trim round the edges when the stubble gets annoying, but otherwise (for now) no one is looking down there.

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 14:55

Go for the nap Petitech Grin

LOL @ confession's lady garden beomcing a cottage garden! I think mine's a hay meadow now Blush Grin

Perpetual I think BP only causes a real problem if you have the accompanying swelling/protein in the urine indicating pre-e. I'm afraid I don't know about the syntometrin but if you're going for a physiological 3rd stage then it should be OK? If there were any problems with retained placenta then they'd send you to hospital anyway I'd imagine.
I don't think 125/89 sounds anywhere near high enough to refuse a HB. Don't quote me on any of this btw but I wouldn't worry too much :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 15:05

Well I've made my mixture up with Lavender, Jasmine, Clary Sage and Tea tree (the last because of it's antiseptic properties and I picked up the wrong bottle)

May start sniffing on the clary sage oil though in the next few days...

Joannezipan · 23/05/2011 15:07

PP Facts from my NCT class on the managed 3rd stage... 14% of vaginal births will result in a hemorage (classed as loosing more than 500ml blood - they don't classify as hemorage until 1000ml on continant. 500ml is fairly insignificant blood loss, you loose more than that if you give blood and they just give you a Brew & Biscuit). This includes all births except cs. Administering the injection at the levels they currently do (70% of births) results in a drop to 7% of women having a hemorage. However if you have the injection there is a 1% chance you will need a general anastetic to have all or part of the placenta removed manually as the cervix will close before the placenta is delivered, or the mw will tug too hard. You have a higher chance of haveing a hemorage if you have had other inteventions such as forceps and induction. If you have a intervention free labour and birth there is a tiny chance of you having a hemorage and therefore not a huge point in you having the injection. So if you have your home birth you won't get much in the way of intervention anyway and therefore are well placed not to need the injection. Phew I can't belive that was all still in my brain after a week! :o

As to lady gardens...I have a jungle down there and it is going to stay that way! I'm already uncomfortable and nobody is going near me with anything sticky, hot or sharp to tame it before b-day! I am preganant woman - hear me ROAR! :o

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/05/2011 15:45

Oh Kara I always find Clary Sage smells like fatty sausages. Mind you I also think lavendar just stinks, so maybe I have a weird sense of smell!

Grin and Joanne Roaring. I just strop and foot stomp.

Cake is finally ready. It's over there on the table, help yourselves. (BTW this cake is a direct result of all the other cakes that have been floating about recently {and a thread in chat about the best coffee} so I blame you lot if I suddenly get very cake heavy this week Grin)

Joannezipan · 23/05/2011 15:48

confessions cake is never a bad thing for a PG woman...the roar might become a whimpering complain if enough cake is provided :o

haha I've never smelt clary sage before confessions and didn't want to try in case I suddenly went into labour! May, perhaps, be putting a little too much faith in aromatherapy Grin Am off to have a teensy tiny sniff.

For anyone needing cake may I reccommend this and this

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 16:38

Thanks Supersunny Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 16:57

I quite like clary sage - you must have an odd sense of smell Confessions!

I am far too lazy and rubbish at baking to make a cake Grin

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/05/2011 17:26

Nurse when I was at high school one of my teachers put sage some in her burner (it's supposed to help concentration, we weren't delinquent teen mums to be!!) then left the room. I spent half the lesson unable to concentrate because the room smelt like fatty sausages until I blew it out, even now just thinking about it brings the smell back.

HalleLouja · 23/05/2011 18:05

[Passes around the yummy anzac biscuits I made this morning with DS]

Congrats nurse on your test. I passed mine at 32 weeks with DS and he was born 2 weeks later. So that was the best timing ever. I love being able to drive.

HalleLouja · 23/05/2011 18:07

Knackered I really like where you live. Its a lovely village / town and has a train station. I live in the place where "Wicked Ladies" live if you catch my drift.

MrsNoggin · 23/05/2011 18:54

Congratulations Nurse!

Am Grin at this talk of lady gardens. Can't believe you lot are so trusting of your DPs. I wouldn't let mine loose anywhere near there with a pair if scissors!

On a more depressing note I had my 36 week growth scan today (at 35w!). Apparently I have too much baby and not enough fluid Sad. So I have to go back in two weeks for another. They were monitoring growth because I had a major PPH after having DD. They tell me it happened because she was so big, but I never thought of 8.8 as that big. But anyway... I'm worrying now, which I wasn't really before. Growth is balancing in the top half of the graphs and fluid is falling off the bottom. I know that can't be good.

Part of me is wondering if maybe baby isn't as big as they think, but they just have the dates wrong... Any chance you reckon?

Sorry about the me me me post, will catch up with the news in a while, I swear!

BarbieLovesKen · 23/05/2011 19:59

Hmm MrsNoggin, I dont know. Im not one to rely on growth scans at all if Im honest as they've just proved time and time on here and in RL to be notoriously accurate. That said, I probably would take notice regarding fluid levels - its just as well that your being so closely monitored - just in case. Sorry to hear about the PPH, I had one too - after ds - immediately after birtha and then when he was 8 weeks old! Shock. Interesting about the size thing as this was never mentioned to me, (the PPH at 8 weeks was apparantly down to retained placenta and an infection in the lining of my womb) but I too wouldnt have considered either of my two dc big (8.10 dd and 8.4 ds). Hope your ok.

Nurse huge, huge congratulations on passing your test - what a fabulous achievement! you should be very proud. I passed mine when pregnant with ds, but I was only 5 months, really in awe of you doing so well so close to due date. Such a relief to have it off your head, isnt it?

TTL, unfortunately that does sound like spd to me - well my experience of it anyway. Hope it stays "mild" for you.

Im here kind of wondering if Im going to have a baby appearance in the next day or 2. Then I tell myself to stop being silly and of course Im not. I am due on Saturday though, so surely it wouldnt be that odd. I've never for one second contemplated having this one (even a few days) early, or even on time - as both of our dc were "late", I have presumed all along (and even now(ish)) that this one will definately be late too.

My main reason being - I had to be induced with dd - so didnt start labour naturally - ds was my first experience. I started having a dark brown discharge about 2 days before he arrived and remembered thinking after I'd had him "ah, thats what that was..". It wasnt like a show or plug and there wasnt much. Anyway, I've been having loads of pains and aches and tightenings over the past week but put it down to late pregnancy and 3rd baby (feeling everything). Went to the loo this eve and have the exact same discharge (sorry Blush). Hmmm... pah! doubtful. I presume if two have been late, this one is likely to be too, yes? Think I'd better pack my case tonight though.. just in case.

petitech · 23/05/2011 20:13

Barbie it does sound like things might be on the way for you. Good luck if things do start progressing, hope you manage to get a good night's sleep tonight in case.
Yum to all the cake discussions, quite fancy trying the choc chip cookies mmmm!

BPrincess · 23/05/2011 20:14

Ooh, getting exciting Barbie - though I have absolutley no idea and from friends' experience there's just no way of telling what will happen when... But good luck and let's hope it's the beginning of something.

I'm due a week today, and as it's my first, completely nothing to go on. Have def been having some braxton hicks over the last few days and a few stabbing pains down there (like a finger poking me in the cervix) so I presume that's all stuff moving in the right direction.

TTL I've had similar symptoms to you. Aching hips at night, having to turn over a fair bit, about every couple of hours, then very very stiff when I get up. I'll ask midwife about it tomorrow, but I hadn't thought of it as anything serious.

Nurse Congratulations to you!

All this talk of lady gardens... well, I'd never thought of taking the clippers to it. I'd worry about something getting snagged up. Ouch! To be honest, I'm just keeping mine a little bit trimmed with the scissors and presuming that the midwives and docs will have seen it all, and worse, a million times before. Is that terribly unsympathetic of me?!!

sasamaxx · 23/05/2011 20:32

Ooohhh that's so exciting Barbie - will need to keep checking the thread all the time to see if something happens Grin

MrsNoggin sorry to hear they are concerned - but then at least they are on top of it and keeping a close eye on you

NurseSunshine · 23/05/2011 21:02

MrsNoggin sorry can't offer any advice or wisdom but at least they're keeping an eye on you. I wouldn't have thought 8.8 was that big though. I know two women who gave birth to babies over 10lbs! And one of them was 4'11" and the other was 5'2"!

Thanks Barbie, yes it is a huge relief! Eeep it does sound like things might be happening for you! It would make sense that your 3rd might not be late this time. Hope you're feeling good about everything :)

8rubberduckies · 23/05/2011 21:24

CMH and Sasamaxx I got stuck on my left side last night as I struggled to turn over to my right because of pelvic pain - it takes so long and often doesn't seem worth the hassle to my half-asleep brain, as I will only have to turn back again in an hour or so once my other hip starts hurting Sad. Very interesting comments about sleeping on your back using pillows etc. though, may give it a go tonight. My favourite non-pregnant sleeping position is on my belly though, no chance...

Well done Nurse, fantastic job!

Lady gardens - I am currently going wild Grin. I am just about managing to smear a bit of immac around the edges with the use of a well-angled shaving mirror so I don't scare people off in the swimming pool, but that's about it Grin. I'm sure no staff on a delivery suite are going to be offended by a bit of an old-fashioned full head of hair; believe you me, they will be see a lot worse than that in the course of a normal working day Grin.

Barbie sounds like something could be going down Smile... keep us updated....

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 22:24

Barbie - fingers crossed things are happening!

MrsN - sorry you have been worried, hopefully the close moinitoring will put your mind at easy.

Am loving all the lady garden stories, I don't think we will really give a shit when we're pushing the baby out!

MrsNoggin · 23/05/2011 22:54

Thanks guys, it's nice to feel supported. It goes in one ear and out the other with DH, poor thing. I never thought 8.8 was particularly large. Not petite, quite, but no giant. I blamed PPH on botched induction and retained placenta, but these doctors do insist they know better!

Excited for you now Barbie. And we do need another baby, it's been ages!
