Will this be the final thread?!? I somehow think not, with more and more people starting on maternity leave, we have time for a good few more methinks!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
motherofsnortpigs · 22/05/2011 21:12

petitech How do you think they could force you to have a sweep - it would be sexual assault. tbh I swear by them. If everything else is favourable it just tips you over the edge into labour. A really vigorous one is painful, though. I have requested them before, but only with a mw whom I trust.

knackered So that's where I went wrong with the pineapple...

kara headaches when you can't kill them off with prescription strength pain relief are horrid. Hope you feel better soon and if you don't TELL YOUR MW!

confessions all labours start at home (unless you're induced) so tell yourself you are having a home labour and a hospital birth. And pray you know when to transfer...

nurse I'm sure you'll pass your driving test - no one upsets the pregnant lady :)

Lots of cramping here this evening, but I am waiting for a 'show' as this was the start of established labour on the previous 2 occasions (was induced with DD1). Would really love to have the baby so that DH's paternity leave coincides with half term. Anyone listening, who can oblige, please?!

motherofsnortpigs · 22/05/2011 21:17

x-posted with about 20 people because I had to get up mid-post and tend to DS who was trying his best to explain that daddy had left his fairy lights on. He really had tested out his complete vocal range without resorting to tears, bless him.

prisoner I don't even own an iron...

KaraStarbuckThrace · 22/05/2011 21:21

MOSP - going to take myself off to bed shortly with some pain killers.
Think it has been disrupted sleep over the past few nights that have brougth this one, plus been a bit stressed over a family row.

HalleLouja · 22/05/2011 21:27

Confessions your local NCT branch might have a HB group, which meets / provides support. It might be worth having a look to see what is about.

motherofsnortpigs · 22/05/2011 21:45

Good work kara Hope you get a good night's sleep and a chance to de-stress. FWIW I never tell the mw much. I only got referred to physio when I sneezed in her presence and it took me nearly half an hour to recover from the ligament pain.

sasamaxx · 22/05/2011 21:45

OMG at the pineapple.
I'm sure you all remember how excited I am to see the Wiggles on Tuesday, so when song comes on, I will think of all you lovely ladies Grin

Has anyone sorted out their ladygarden yet?
I have no idea how to go about this...

Nurse good luck tomorrow - bet you pass!

NurseSunshine · 22/05/2011 22:02

Thanks everyone :)

sasa I'm afraid I'm giving up on my lady garden. The baby's not going to mind and frankly I can't be arsed to faff about Blush

Prisoner I don't iron my own clothes so I sure as heck aint going to bother ironing the baby's! They're clean, that's all that matters.

Kara hope you can get an early night. Drink lots of water and hopefully your headache will go. Lack of sleep always gives me headaches too :(

Confessions have you and DH had a look here ? Did I read it right that you'e being refused a HB becasue DH isn't up for it? Because surely it's your choice? I'm not saying you would want to go against his wishes, of course it should be a joint decision, but surely to the MWs it's what you want that matters?

Knackered where did you hear that about the pineapple??! I know that it's one of the things recommended to eat because it can have a laxative effect but how would applying it to the cervix help?

milliemuffin · 22/05/2011 22:16

Does anyone keep thinking and honestly feeling like their waters are about to go? Baby's been wriggling so low and I get a warm (on and off for as long as baby is wriggling) but not wet feeling and then I sit and wait but nothing happens. I'm convinced baby is going to arrive before 37weeks so I'm almost thinking myself out of a homebirth because I doubt so much that I'll get that far.

Thornykate · 22/05/2011 22:33

Happy birthday Monica!

Welcome back banana :)

Thanks for the reassurance knackered i do find it helps to hear positive things about how people do great things in the face if MH problems it helps us stay positive too.

Good luck with the test nurse let us know as soon as poss tomorrow.

I have turned into labour obsessed woman. Despite keeping busy & trying not to pay attention to due date I can't think about anything else & am fed up with it a bit now. Going to buy clary sage oil and eve prim tomorrow if only to feel like I am doing something useful :)

Hope everyone is ok

Thornykate · 22/05/2011 22:35

Ps

kara def tell MW if you still have headache tomorrow so you can get reassurance at least x

Millie yes, I don't know if baby keeps poking at my cervix with her index finger but I feel the ready to pop feelings too!

sasamaxx · 22/05/2011 22:50

Forgot to say welcome back Banana

I'm also labour obsessed Thornykate - I bought rescue remedy for my labour bag and wanted a sniff, but stopped myself thinking - 'what if it relaxes my uterus and prevents imminent labour'

Thornykate · 22/05/2011 22:59

Had to lol at that sasa it sounds like the sort of thing I would think too! Re the lady garden, I have been waxed to within an inch of my life last tues & am using hair growth inhibitor cream to keep everything under control until 6wk post natal..well that's the plan anyway Grin

PrisonerZero · 22/05/2011 23:01

Bugger.... just popped back to this thread... after doing an hour of ironing!! Only to discover that no one else does so I shouldn't have bothered. Typical Smile

I was just about to go and get the second bag but think I will have a nice cup of tea instead. I don't generally iron, only school uniforms and then do bits and peices as and when so was feeling rather proud of myself.

Happy birthday Monica Smile

Good Luck Nurse Smile

My bed is calling me, but I stupidly decided it would be a good idea to strip and wash the sheets and stuff earlier and haven't remade it yet so am laying on the sofa putting it off. I think I only have half a nesting thing going on as I keep starting things and giving up Blush

PrisonerZero · 22/05/2011 23:03

PS - I tried shaving my ladygarden the other day, only couldn't reach properly and couldn't see. DP says it looks like I have just used a pritt stick and stuck random clumps of hairs on Blush Shock plus it itches like mad. Hoping I don't go into labour before its recoved as I would be mortified at the poor midwife having to see my disaster!

BarbieLovesKen · 23/05/2011 00:40

Hi all, huge apologies for not replying much sooner to thank you all so much for your kind advice and sympathy re my bold dh but Internet was (is) down and I've been following on my phone (and avoiding posting til now as it's such a pita).I did want to reply individually but am afraid I've left it too late and have forgotten loads, please know that I really appreciated all the comments though.

Well finally my nesting and energy boost kicked in after really worrying that I would have nothing ready for this one. I cleaned and scrubbed and painted all day yesterday until quarter to 1 this morn. Paid for it though as my Spd (mild and not nearly as bad as some on here) killed me all last night and when I got up this morn to a point where I was whimpering in my sleep and bursting into tears each time I needed to turn/get up to use the toilet. Now have serious sympathy for anyone experiencing this long term-don't know how you do it.

Nurse, felt so so sorry for you when I read your post about the test. You poor thing. Best of luck for tomorrow.

I'm waiting to hear of a new arrival too. Logged on fully expecting to read about one. It's all getting very exciting now.

Dying to have a nose at millies pic. Hope to have proper net access tomorrow.

So seeing as it's after 12 it's now just 5 days until my due date (I was originally due the 1st June but dating scans let me off 4 days)

Will properly catch up with everyone tomorrow

Merlion · 23/05/2011 05:43

Nurse good luck today! Remember mirror, mirror, mirror! If I can pass first time anyone can!

3 more days at work after today and am feeling slightly d-mob happy already. DH had man-flu this weekend so wasn't really the relaxing weekend whereby he took DS out and about that I was hoping for! Have also caught the nesting bug so spent some time in the new nursery and sorting out some boxes that haven't been opened since we moved Blush over a year ago! Annoyingly I can't seem to find my breast pump but there are still 2 boxes to look through so praying it's in one of them! I don't want to have to buy another one now.

Sasa I saw the Wiggles with DS here when they came at the end of last year.

Petit I have 2 cats 10 years old brother and sister. One avoided DS (and still does) like the plague and he never gets near to her. The other one was often found asleep amongst the soft toys in DS cot (when he was still in his moses basket) and now quite happily lets DS play with torment him. When we bought DS home from hospital they both went over for a sniff but that was about all. I did buy a cat net for the cot but never actually used it.

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 23/05/2011 05:55

I'm not happy. Been awake since 4 with a sore leg that stems from my sore fanjo. And even though I ate earlier I'm hungry again. I just know as I finally pass out DS will wake up and assault me for breakfast.

Just catching up before putting in a dvd (as I've finished my book).

LisasCat · 23/05/2011 07:21

Ironing baby clothes???????? I want it on the record that any of you ladies who confess to ironing baby clothes will be off my xmas card list. The only reason you would do that is to make the rest of us feel bad! (We only iron clothes the night before a job interview round here. Them's the rules.)

Have just joined whoever was in the elephant snot club. That was rather delightful. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact DP and I managed a quickie yesterday (which is getting very rare now, with bump aching so much and DD getting very clingy). I did have 'bad mummy' guilt syndrome for a few hours afterwards until I felt bump move around. Not so much worried that we'd hurt her, but just that she might be in there, stunned, wondering "what the hell were you two up to just now? I'm not coming out to meet you if that's the way you behave!" But she didn't even kick me in the ribs, so she's clearly not cross with me.

Thornykate · 23/05/2011 07:44

Morning all! Am very pleased for my good friends sister who went into labour yesterday & now has given birth this morning safely to a lovely daughter :)

I am also Envy as she wasn't due until next week AFTER me! An acquaintance also gave birth last week who wasn't due til after me & I feel left behind, this baby needs to come out now!

I know that is v silly especially as I am lucky to be able to carry healthy baby etc but I am done now. I realised this morning that I have spent over 3yrs of my life being pg so no wonder I am sick of it!

lisascat / prisoner I iron baby clothes too but on a wear as u go basis Blush

sasamaxx · 23/05/2011 08:02

Awww Merlion did you love the Wiggles? I want to give Anthony a big hug Grin
We only iron for special occasions too, and I also have prisoner's half-nesting instinct and it has resulted in half-done jobs everywhere and a bit of a disastrous house at the moment.

Have a great Monday everyone Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 08:12

Thorny - congrats to your friend and her sister for the safe arrival of your friend's little niece!

Lisascat - you made me chuckle :) We do iron things like t-shirts, DH's work wear and some of my shirts that need it, but most things we don't bother. My mum irons bedding, nightwear and underwear Shock Clearly the woman has far too much time on her hands Grin

Barbie - sympathies on the pain, like you I have very mild SPD but then over do it and end up regretting it!

Nurse - best of luck this morning, remember Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre! Red means stop, green means go and amber, go faster Wink

Headache mostly gone, now. Took some co-codomol then had trouble sleeping due to loads of BH last night, felt like someone was compressing my lungs as well as my belly!

jasmine51 · 23/05/2011 08:39

kara so impressed you can spell manoeuvre!
Nurse good luck for today

No news from this end (or that end either). Had a MW apt last night...yes a Sunday evening...not sure why either but it was just a nice gentle chat about my ideal birth plan and the consultants plans for me. LO is still bum up which is good but is very high so no signs of making a dive for it yet. Been told off for sitting down too much so have to try and go walking to encourage him down...not sure the back or hips will stand for much though. Was nice to be at the MLU though - my bp was about 20 points lower there than in the hosp and 4 new bubs born over w/e to coo over...no sign of my friend who is now 12 days over though...she must be sooooooo fed up.

DH is having a minor op under local today to remove a cyst from his back and has just asked if he needs to be nil by mouth! Have told him yes...just out of badness lol!

crumbletastic · 23/05/2011 08:39

knackered are you sure someone wasn't pulling your leg? Pineapple has a mild acid in it which can breaqkdown proteins. it can be used for tenderizing meat and this is why it makes your mouth tingle. It is getting nowhere near my lady bits!

Another one with a ridiculous lady garden here. I have given up with a razor as too dangerous with my clumsy hands and inability to see anything down there even with a mirror. I daftly thought I would neaten up with dh beard trimmer Blush but without being able to see I have inadvertently given myself a number 1 over most of the area. Dh says it looks like I am smuggling an asbo chav down there.

BarbieLovesKen · 23/05/2011 08:40

Ooh Lisa , wonder if that's a sign that things are starting??? I thought that generally babies are quite after parents have sex-apparently the rocking motion puts them to sleep.

thorny I'm sorry to hear your feeling fed up, I completely sympathise as I felt exactly the same with dd and ds and it's horrible. (funnily and oddly enough for me, I'm quite happy for this one to stay put for the min, that could all change as I get more organised and therefore ready over the next few days). I know
It's such a blessing that the baby is staying put so long but it doesn't take from the fact that the end is ruddy hard!! (particulary when you've other smalls to run about after). hope your ok and baby arrives soon.

Thinking of nurse this morn.

Joining insomnia club, have been up since 4, still I'm lucky to get away with it this long..

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/05/2011 08:53

Jasmine - thank you Grin

DH has electric hair trimmers and he usually prunes my lady garden for me (what a star!), he'll be doing it again this week as it is getting untidy again!
