Anybody else out there?????
Very surprised, had only SWI once and I thought we had missed the window of opportunity. It seems not, BFP yesterday, royal wedding treat. EDD about 2nd Jan I think.

#2 for me, keeping fingers tightly crossed as had a bumpy ride before conceiving DS. Very excited and slightly terrified. :)

Woo hoo (times a million)! Just been for my early scan and everything is fine! Had a proper cry- sonographer must have thought I was a total nut job. I think I'd just put the emotions on pause until I saw a heartbeat after last time. So lovely- and can't believe how strong it looked on the screen. To add to the next list- EDD 19 Jan!
On bras: sloggi do a nice crop vest thing and M&S have got a new style of wireless bra that's much better than the normal ones.
On hayfever: I use some stuff in a pot call HayMax that you smear under your nose and it catches pollen flying in. Pretty good.

Weevie · 07/06/2011 16:19

Hey thanks for reassuring me. I had an appointment with my doctor this morning to get a repeat prescription. To say he was unhelpful would be an understatement but hey ho.

My bra is awful, it doesnt hurt my boobs but around my chest-I went to get a fitting and she said I have the correct size, I think i might just go and buy a cheap one in the next size and have the clasp thing a bit tighter.

Thats great news Party and mummyzoe congrats.

Congrats on your BFP fr00tbat

Hope everyone has a good day. Ever since I got my BFP I have been rather superstitious. I saw one magpie earlier so now im on the hunt ;)

trubble · 07/06/2011 16:24

Just been for my booking in appt - what a waste of time. I was there but the midwife failed to turn up or let anyone know she wasn't going to come. 1 hour later I'm back at home and waiting for a call tomorrow to reschedule. Grrrrrrrrrr

BigHotMama · 07/06/2011 16:26

Great news partypooper bet it's just amazing to know everything is as it should be! Just rang to arrange docs app for next week. Will look at those slogging vests need something comfy.

Linda sounds like a lovely holiday 8 weeks long eh you'll feel like one of the locals after that ha! I think I seem to forget that you cam be pregnant in other countries too as worry about going abroad but this time already had hols booked and paid for, my dh thinks I'm a drama queen as soon as I become pg lol.

Well I'm going to see kasabian at a gig tonight hope there's space at the back as don't want to feel claustrophobic.

Is anybody on twitter? X

Spagbolagain · 07/06/2011 16:51

Afternoon all. Sooooo tired today and have annoying itchy hayfever eyes. I just came back from endocrine antenatal clinic for my under active thyroid, I need to up my dose but all is otherwise well.

Going to see Take That on Friday, massively excited. My lucky little bean, what an amazing first musical experience for him/her :o

My community midwife surprised me yesterday by asking if I wanted to consider a homebirth. I thought it would be out for us since I had a few complications with DS (breech, forceps, PPH, fetal distress etc)... But she said if everything was straightforward this time I could consider it. On the basis that birth was horrific last time, she reckons this one would be much easier. anybody else given this a thought yet? (I know I'm way too early here, but it's only cos she asked....)

Bellakins · 07/06/2011 18:42

Wow Spagbolagain, very jealous of your concert! If a home birth appeals to you, go for it! My midwife asked me too but I've opted for hospital. It's my first so would like to be in hospital in case things go wrong.

My nausea hit me again today. Almost 3 weeks without it and it's back with a vengeance!

d0gFace · 07/06/2011 18:55

Ello's!

I finally got a new bra today(38E) cant help thinking it feels abit too big, but Ive been crammed in for weeks so maybe its just getting use to the space.

Still havent recieved my booking app, currenty 10 weeks. Apparently its in the post.Confused

Think Id like a water or active birth at a MLU. Havent done much research yet, so not 100%.

Mum2be79 · 07/06/2011 19:19

I had my booking in appointment today. Nothing really to report just that the midwife has said I am now 10 weeks (due 4th Jan) instead of 9 weeks pregnant because I have a cycle of 24 days and thus probably ovulated earlier?!? I'll wait for the dating scan to be double sure so in the meantime I'm still counting myself as 9 weeks + 4 days.

I will receive my scan appointment in the post but York hospital have a back-log - apparently. I suppose there is a bay boom in progress.

I got lots of paraphenalia and so stopped off at the shop for a sneaky bar of chocolate to eat whilst reading them! It's the only thing I can stomach at the moment. I hate just about ALL foods!

GiraffeAHolic · 07/06/2011 19:40

I'm hoping for a water birth at home this time. Had quite a rough time labouring with Dd and was quite ill afterwards so slightly scared but I think my hospital fear is winning at the mo.

Due 2nd jan so I don't know if that sort of time makes it more unlikely for a midwife to come out to your home?

Linda40 · 07/06/2011 20:51

Ive just sent the hubby to the chinese for noodles.... I had a really bad craving for them all of a sudden!

Bighotmama You'll be fine on your hols, try not to stress over it, and have a fab time at your concert ;)

party fantastic news ((hugs))

mumtobe79 I know what you mean about food, Im hating lots of food at the minute, and doing the shopping is horrendous! Blahhhhhh!

Giraffeaholic the midwife will probably turn up at your home with streamers in her hair and a party blower in her mouth, so long as she's sober!!!!

I havent even thought about the birth yet. After previously having 2 MC Im just hoping to get through the next few weeks. But my deliveries with my DDs were very quick, 2hrs50 with my first and 50 mins with the second! I probably wont make it to the delivery suite this time! lol

Booking appointment tomorrow, looking forward to see if things have changed 7 years on!

Take care everyone xxx

Jillowan · 07/06/2011 21:06

Spagbolagain I too have an under active thyroid - it wasn't until this was discovered and I was given tablets that I finally got pregnant. Was worried about the effect of this on my pregnancy, but my Dr seemed to think it wasn't a problem and he just needed to flag it on my booking-in form. How many weeks are you if you don't mind me asking?

Spagbolagain · 07/06/2011 21:40

I am 9+4
you definitely need to continue with your thyroxine, and to have your bloods taken again now you are PG. Most people end up needing a bit more, and it kicks in quite early. I usually take 100, this was upped to 125 by GP and consultant has raised again to 150. This was the same last time I was PG.

I think you should get a referral as part of your booking appointment, but if you want it to happen more quickly you can just phone your mw and ask her to refer you? Alternatively, ask your GP to repeat your bloods.
But this is just about controlling it to the best possible level. The real risk is if you have undiagnosed and therefore untreated hypothyroidism, and as you are already taking thyroxine don't worry too much.

Moobee · 07/06/2011 22:00

Hi everyone, its nice to read all your posts and realise I'm not alone!

I had to go to bravissimo today to get new bras. I was down to one that fits and that leaves a red mark. hopefully my new ones will be better - they're a 38F!

As the lady helping does lots of maternity fittings I asked when others reported that they stop growing - apparently they don't and have another growth spurt just before birth. Great.

I'm 9weeks and 2days now and the sickness is really kicking in. I can't bear the thought of food, but I'm trying to continue eating. Somehow I'm still putting on weight, 5lbs so far.

Is anyone else having weird dreams? I had an unpleasant one last night that I had my scan and there was a baby but also two crabs. I woke up feeling really distressed! I had been to the beach yesterday and there was crab advertised on every menu.

shonnomanom · 07/06/2011 22:06

Jillowan my sister is also under active, she had to get her levels check more frequently and her meds were amended when needed. She also had to have an appointment with the anesthetist(sp?) about 34/40wks so they had all her details incase they needed to suddenly operate when she was in labour.

Im planning on going to the hospital. We have a fancy new hospital just opened this year so im looking forward to using the new facilities when the time comes. I like he security of knowing that all the medical people are in the same building just incase I need them.

My belly is getting bigger and my boobs arent Sad

I heard a doctor lady on the radio today talking about research that was carried on pregnant women and alcohol.
She said that all the women were asked to drink a vodka and orange then had a scan to monitor the babies movements. Apparently the babies breathing movements dramatically slowed for about 40mins after the mother had the drink.
You always hear them say its bad for the baby but they never actually say what it does. Its really quite alarming to hear how one drink can effect he baby so much.

Sorry for the long post x

Jillowan · 07/06/2011 22:15

Ah, really helpful - thanks! Was stressing slightly about it, as don't have a mw or anything yet (only found out last week, my Dr emailed me on Friday to say he'd written to the hospital then went on holiday).

It's all still a bit new and I'm trying not to scare myself by googling things!

GiraffeAHolic · 07/06/2011 22:45

linda thats a cheerful thought :) bet she'd be after my gas and air too!

Got my glucose tolerance tests tomorrow (which I'm dreading) so home birth is dependent on the results.

Browncoats · 08/06/2011 08:26

I really love the idea of a home birth and I'm really glad that that option is opening up to those who want it although I'm really not one of them. I was on track to have such an easy labour with DS and then they realised he was back to back and he started to get distressed and I had to be taken into theatre so I think I want to be at the hospital again just in case. Smile

I've got my second scan today at 10.15 and I'm a bit stressed about it. Because of the bleeding at the last scan I think they're going to be scanning me every couple of weeks so FX that the bleeding has stopped, although I haven't seen any sign of it externally.

I hope everyone's feeling a little less sick today Smile

ghosteditor · 08/06/2011 09:56

hey ladies, some interesting posts, really great to see what other people are thinking.

I'm especially keen on the idea of a waterbirth and might consider the idea of being at home (not really sure, though) to ensure that. That's assuming that everything goes well, though, and I'm allowed to make that kind of choice.

You have to help me though - I'm heaping on weight but have decided to stop weighing myself, which I was previously doing once a week. I do think it has to do with some of the bloating/constipation side effects of being pg, though, but I'm not sure if that really makes me feel better. I think it's because I feel nauseated all the time, but especially if I have a blood sugar dip or spike (so essentially before or after eating). Last night, however, I had a bag of chip shop chips (my first in a year!) and they were the best thing that ever happened to me. I started thinking about them yesterday morning so I pretty much had to have them by the time 9.30pm came around and I still hadn't had chance to eat dinner!

So what I need help with is to figure out stuff that's going to keep my blood sugar on an even keel - I guess this is low gi stuff? Any snack things people can think of? I only seem to be able to go an hour or two without feeling really sick.

Spagbolagain · 08/06/2011 10:17

browncoats hope scan goes ok today
ghosteditor struggling with the same thing here, need carbs to stop myself feeling sick, but am worried about how much Im eating.....

I have been enjoying ryvitas (odd, I would never normally buy these) which are only 30 calories and quite nice. Sometimes with s bit of humus or light Philly. Toasted brown pitta dipped in tzatziki is also good. Trying to stay away from the crisps which is what I REALLY want.

Have also been putting a big spoonful of wheat bran on top of morning cereal to help with constipation. Find it in the cereal or baking aisles, works really well but you have to make sure you drink lots

Capybara · 08/06/2011 11:08

Hi everyone - can anyone advise me about soft goats cheese? The NHS website

says:

Don't eat mould-ripened soft cheese, such as brie, camembert and chevre (a type of goats' cheese) and others with a similar rind.

...and then later,

Don't drink unpasteurised goats' or sheep's milk or eat food that is made out of them, such as soft goats' cheese.

...from which I'm inferring that pasteurised, soft (ie not rinded) goats cheese is fine. Can anyone confirm? This is important, as it's one of the VERY few things that doesn't make me feel sick. Also I think I need the calcium!

Thanks!

Nanny01 · 08/06/2011 11:08

I love peanut butter and midwife said it was ok so I don't have to give everything up apart from the soft cheeses and pate. So missing them. On a good note all the headaches and neck pain that I suffered from for the last 6 weeks is gone.

ghosteditor · 08/06/2011 11:31

Spagbolagain you're so right, have been eating my body weight in crisps, they're just so salty and good. And I'm normally very restrained about eating crisps as I like them so much. Toasted brown pitta sounds very, very good right now, thanks. Bleurgh - wheat bran. You're right though. All was going well when I was eating fruit and granola for breakfast but I ran out and haven't bought any more yet. wholewheat toast and banana or porridge for breakfast just hasn't been cutting it.

capybara I'm really sorry that I can't help as I'm very keen to hear the answer to that question. I've had very contradictory advice so far, and I'm veggie so I tend to eat a fair bit of cheese, plus like you I need it for the calcium. I need to know about feta and goat's cheese and I too have been looking at the NHS website. Unfortunately I can't really make sense of it but have thus far been assuming that pasteurised soft cheese (ie feta made in the UK and likewise goat's cheese) will be ok. But I'm going to Greece next week and was really looking forward to feta - not sure if I can trust the restaurants as they may use local feta which could be unpasteurised. Guess I'll just have to scoff halloumi instead!

nanny01 so pleased to hear that your headaches have gone.

Can I just share one more thing with you all? I am not being sick but have a lot of nausea throughout the day. One thing that works for me is any form of cardio exercise - I don't know exactly what does it but it immediately gets rid of the sick feeling and it doesn't come back for a little while after I stop. Maybe it's distraction, maybe it's the endorphins, but I'm very much enjoying the change of pace from feeling sick. I have to balance it out with how tired I feel but I just thought I'd share the tip for anyone who's keen...

d0gFace · 08/06/2011 11:33

No idea about the cheese thing, can you ask your doc/mw? maybe ring nhs direct? Cheese is serious business!

I seem to be eating more bread, also off out today and I've been thinking about lasagna for lunch since yesterday.Blush If it doesnt come with chips I will not be happy.

Glad your headaches and neck pain have finally gone Nanny.

Has anyone else been hungry in bed? Il be fine but as soon as I lay down to sleep my tummy starts making noises. Nearly got up last night at 12.30 to make myself something.

Moobee · 08/06/2011 11:37

Ghost editor : thanks for the the exercise tip, I'll have to try that. I hate feeling sick and it might help balance out my current weight gain too.

supadupapupascupa · 08/06/2011 11:42

hi ladies,

I have been struggling with food choices too. BUT I have discovered rice crispies for breakfast, cheese & crackers for lunch (great because the Toddler loves them too and we make a picnic in the living room), Tomato soup and tiger rolls for snacks (an odd one this, i never have tomato soup but when i'm pregnant i crave it!) and whatever is put in front of me at tea time. It's the tea time meal I struggle with the most. I don't fancy anything and then get too sick with hunger to eat. DH is at his wits end already. I was the same last pregnancy.

Boobs not hurting anyway near as much, so that's a positive!

I have spoken to MIL today who was chatting to our pilates tutor (i haven't been since i found out) and she will put a program together for me once i'm in the 2nd trimester. She briefly said I couldn't stretch with arms above my head any longer and have to be very careful with hips..... This now also means that MIL has banned me from decorating because we have high ceilings. I feel really bad about it because now MIL and PIL will feel obliged to do the decorating and it's like I planned it! I said this to MIL and she said i'm doing more than enough incubating the baby Grin. I'm a very lucky girl to have such wonderful support. I just don't like to take advantage and sometimes it feels like there is a fine line.
