Bah, stupid internet ate my message.

Bites Mr Boots rang me today to ask me what I was doing tomorrow evening. He should have known this already as I am going for the massage that I have bought and booked myself on his behalf.

GG splendid news on the long-legged MicroG!

Rocket if you get through the bazillions of other booties you're making I would luff a pair in any primary colour or green - and will very happily send money for them as I am too shite at crochet/knitting to attempt them myself.

Truffkin · 18/04/2011 13:53

Yo biatches, apologies for recent absence (although have been lurking) which has been due to a mixture of being at a conference, working very long days with some evening events and the culmination of this being non-stop vomiting and lots of sleep when other things allow. I am delighted to return to news of MiniMeds doing so well, fabulous scan news for LongLeggedBabyG (and hopefully good news on the house to follow) and general baby-related purchases. The market place that has sprung up is also worth a squeee, those Mary Janes are da bomb Salade

Not quite so happy about overdemanding husbands and birthdays being forgotten, but am sure we can hold a thread partay to rival any real life events that you might dream of Wink

Well, I'm nearly 10 weeks and that means technically a quarter of the way through - yippee! I saw my midwife yesterday who was lufferly and reassured me that my baybee is fine and taking everything it needs in spite of the sickness, it's a good sign etc etc etc. I was a little Hmm that she has put me down as high risk and referred me for a consultant appointment as I am asthmatic (very mild, well controlled and no problems for years) but she said it was a precaution only and they should refer me back to the midwife unit straight away. She also said that there might be a problem with me using the birth centre as my BMI is in the obese category (by 0.5 - waah and a bit eek) Now I am a size 16 so not tiny by any means, but I don't get out of breath running for the bus, which is always how I picture having a problem with being overweight. The midwife did say (bless her) 'now I'm looking at you and I don't see an obese person' and also commented that my bazoomas are quite, ahem, significant so it might all be ok and they would let me in so we shall have to wait and see what happens.

Scorpette · 18/04/2011 13:56

Talking of slings, my NCT teacher has just emailed this link: www.slingmeet.co.uk/ Could be worth a look-see...

Medee · 18/04/2011 14:02

hurrah for scan news!

Mine seems to like the activity mat already, Scorps. We've got a swing seat too which we haven't broken out yet.

rocketleaf · 18/04/2011 14:42

Gah sorry so focussed on bootie stuff I forgot to say a big Whoop! Whoop! for your scan lady Always nice to get an extra one especially when everything turns out to be peachy, although I am sure you could do without a dicky thyroid. Heres to a long thin ferret like baybee.

Sorry you are still feeling icky truffs but yey for the quarter mark. I am a bit Hmm at the 'obese' thing, sounds completely daft if you are only a 16. Fingers crossed its just a formality anyway and you are referred straight back to MWL unit.

A mat is the one thing I have dithered about, I think an internet purchase post birth with prob be in order.

In other news I seem to have forgotten how to construct a lasagna, i got half way through and had to start again which virtually destroyed the kitchen (looked like a murder scene) How the hell could I forget something like that?

Ivegotmrbitey · 18/04/2011 15:08

rocket I forgot how to make gravy yesterday, just stood staring blankly at the roasting tin. Had to get Delia on line to remind me! Don't be Blush about bootees, just would really like some and wanted to make sure you knew that I think they are something you can sell. Paypal sounds like a fab idea Smile

truffkin nonsense. If they weighed you at ten weeks you will already be carrying extra fluid every where. Suspect it is just your mighty rack, I'll just look a bit more closely to make sure Wink

Meant to say score me and the FDH have both got enorma-heads, someone has told me that it makes no difference as all babies have the same circumference at the crown. I don't know if that was somebody who I would usually believe or an eejit in the pub so this theory may not hold up to scrutiny!

Good idea boots the elemis spa near me does a mother to be massage which just sounds lush. Perhaps I shall take myself off there with his bank card! We'll have to have a joint party tomorrow! < drifts off into birthday party day dream involving egg sandwiches, cheap onion ring crisps and jelly>

Scorpette · 18/04/2011 15:12

Truff, BMI is a bunch of arse. It's based on a mythical super-average person. My Dad has incredibly heavy bones and so do me and my brother (even though I am actually quite small-boned - can meet my fingers round my wrist, for example). I used to be a size 8-10 (SOB!) and was verging into the 'overweight' category of BMI, weight-wise! My pg weight has now nudged me into the 'obese' category Blush - but when I was told this I was wearing a size 12 non-maternity dress (admittedly a v loose one) and cardi* so I say BOLLOCKS to it all.

I bet you'll be MW-led, don't worry. MW have to err on the side of caution and can go overboard (mine put the fear od god into me over a bit of sugar in my wee, which was nowt in the end and a lowish iron count the other month). Being a slightly wheezy non-skinny minny is not dangerous! Hell, I'm a walking medical freak and I'm MW-led, so take heart Grin Hope the nausea calms down ASAP.

Medee, it was seeing the cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute pic of EA enjoying her mat that put my mind to thinking about early toys :) M&P had a little one on offer yesterday, so am fretting about if we should invest now or not, waaah. I have terrible ishoos with wanting to buy everything potentially necessary for an event and have to keep having stern words with myself Blush

*I was also wearing underwear, etc.

LadyG lovely scan news. That's the only good thing about Bug being breech, the possibility of another scan. I could stare at the grainy image on the screen for hours. Fingers crossed for good house news too.

Truffs Am v surprised at you being referred to consultant. I too am mildly asthamatic, size 16 (pre diffment Blush) & have been MW led all the way. I'm sure its just a precaution.

Rocket I'm making lasagne tonight, so I hope to remember.

In other news I'm now on my last week in work. Feels funny. Physically I'm tired & thanks to leg cramps, Bug gymnastics & every 2 hour wees I had a rubbish sleep, so am ready to finish work. Mentally I'm struggling to get my head around it. Apart from 2 thankfully short bouts of unemployment due to redundancy I've worked full time for 20 years Shock. So the thought of not having a 6am alarm* is nice but odd.

  • Bug screaming to be fed does not count as alarm.

Colleagues also just caught me off guard. My team took me out for lunch, which was lovely, then the whole office crowded around my desk to present me with a voucher for Mamas & Papas. Lots of people are off towards the end of the week so they wanted to maximise the embarassment & blushing. Am feeling quite overwhelmed & bit hormonal weepy.

LadyGoneGaga · 18/04/2011 15:17

How rude, Truff. Well you don't look obese to me, lovely. My friend was rather "ample" with huge bazoomas and they let her labour at midwife led centre so hopefuly you will be ok.

Good news. Second offer was accepted! Going to have lots more space and no more draughts in the winter, hurrah. Is 4 beds so we can have people to stay too - so if any ESH in the Midlands want to pop round when we are in and have BBQ's and things feel free.

owlbooty · 18/04/2011 15:23

Pineapple and cheese on sticks!!!!

Aw, Lozza that sounds lovely. I would've bawled. You are clearly more of a DHB than you let on Grin

Can I just say Truffs that when I was weighed at around 10 weeks I was put down as being borderline overweight (their scales were, I found out later, about +2kg wrong). Also, BMI is a useless and outdated measurement and they should be doing waist to hip ratio which is far more telling in terms of health. Also, also - sod them. The consultant will refer you straight back I bet.

Scorpette · 18/04/2011 15:47

Aw, Loz, I would be a blubbering wreck (but then again, I cry at adverts for oven chips, so... ). What lovely, thoughtful colleagues :) It must feel v scary and different to face not working, but it sounds like you really need this time now to recharge your batteries and chill (cue Loz giving birth on Thursday Wink). Soon enough, you'll have another type of full-time work and early starts to occupy your time!

Huzzah for the offer being accepted, GG! Am already planning my visit, ta. BBQ, you say? Don't forget my gluten-free sausages Grin

PS Waist to hip ratio also crap for me - I have munchkin torso of thick waist and thin hips. I am genuinely female (and human)!

I WILL listen to my hippo CD now, I will, I will, I WILL!

OP posts:
laurielou · 18/04/2011 15:54

LadyG HUZZAH for offer being accepted. That's fantabulous news

Scorpette · 18/04/2011 16:06

Perhaps they're just really glad to see the back of you, Loz? Wink

ONLY JOKING! Now wipe your face and get spending :)

OP posts:
laurielou · 18/04/2011 16:10

Haha, thanks Scorps maybe that's closer to the truth Grin

Blimey, this baby may actually have some stuff after all.....

LadyGoneGaga · 18/04/2011 16:12

That's fantatstic, Loz! Are you going to buy one of those outrageously expensive, posh changing bags? Grin

laurielou · 18/04/2011 16:16

We've probably already ordered an expensive changing bag Lady Blush. This will prolly be spent on nappies! Maybe some nice massage oil - FOR ME! I just don't know......

Medee · 18/04/2011 16:21

wow, that's so generous!

Our activity mat was from M+P - there are plenty out there with more interesting textures etc on the mat itself, but she's really taken by whatever we hang from the overhead rails.

Truffkin · 18/04/2011 16:58

Thanks all for words of encouragement, am delighted with hopeful tales of freaks Wink PEShies being MW led and will take heart that this is just a procedural thing. Thanks also for good wishes re: vomfest. I am clinging onto the hope that it will stop at 12 weeks so not long to go now. In good news, I can fit into work trousers I have not worn for more than 6-months so it's given me a new temporary wardrobe (even though I am still a beast obese)

LadyG great news about your house move, I shall be setting course for the Spa town as soon as I hav a baybee in tow for PESH meet up times!

Lozza how lovely and huzzah for work-funded start-of-Mat-leave spending spree! M&P do such lovely things, I have spent fortunes in there for baybees of friends and will no doubt do the same for our PFB. I recalled at the weekend that when my sister was pg with my nephew, I started 'weekly present' (does what it says on the tin) for her, so am hoping she also remembers this when we make our announcement in a few weeks Grin

StiffyByng · 18/04/2011 16:58

Laurie what a lovely present! You must be a fab manager.

GG good news on the scan and the new mansion. That seems to have happened really quickly!

Rocket the bootees are gorgeous. Would you consider a pair for a near stranger? In that lovely green?

Scorps what a ridiculous NCT pair. We did a full on hippobirthing course but have been pretty selective in what we've taken on
board. I think frankly you need to be prepares for what can go wrong and how. And certainly not wander into other people's classes and try to mess them up for them.

Medee the FB photos are adorable, particularly with the toys!

Truffs I am proper-like big in BMI (33) and have been midwife-led, HB all the way. My midwives actually scoffed at the idea that it made me high risk. I had to attend a consultant's clinic to be signed off for the HB, at which we discussed my SPD rather than my weight at all. I know birthing centres can be very picky. If they give you crap, I'd wave the NICE guidelines at them, which talk about the need to make individual decisions on women with BMIs of 30-35, taking their overall health into account.

Muser · 18/04/2011 17:06

I too have a BMI of 30 something and was all set for birthing centre. Only thing I had to do was have the vile GTT test. I am planning to lose weight in the hope I might avoid that next time.

Truffkin · 18/04/2011 17:22

Ah yes Meds she did mention possibly doing a GTT later on, she did one yesterday (I had to drink Lucozade but hadn't fasted beforehand so not a controlled test) and if there are any problems it would be repeated later on.

I'm not going to worry about it for now, I am meeting the consultant in 3 weeks' time and I can discuss my hopes for the birth with her and get her to send me back to the lovely midwives for my ante natal care!

rocketleaf · 18/04/2011 17:25

So we have concluded that the B in BMI stands for Bollocks? Bollocks Mythical Index? Badly Made Index? I haven't seen pics of all of you but I have seen pics of muse and *score and if you are overweight then I'm a french spy. Stupid medical types wanting our bodies to fit in boxes JUST like they do with births (grrrrrh)

styff have added you to the list.

You do all realise this is just a ploy to get your addresses so I can stalk you in person?

loz that is such a lovely pressie, they must REALLY want to see the back of you Wink Enjoy spending up. I make lasagna 2 ways, traditionally with bechamel or low fat with cottage cheese, the cottage cheese way you have to do pasta first or you only end up with one layer of pasta. I completely forgot this and made it the bechamel way at first so got myself in a right pickle. Hopefully not a problem you will encounter Wink

bitey good skills on the gravy blank, impressive and makes me feel slightly less dense (or at least less alone) I fear this is only going to get worse :o

lady great news on the house front! That's so exciting!! Is there an upwards chain cos with your cash buyer it should all be pretty straightforward otherwise! Fingers crossed for totally smooth transactions.

AlpinePony · 18/04/2011 17:28

truff another tubster here, mw-hb all the way. In a lovely twist of irony was sent for an extra growth scan due to BMI, mw somewhat apologetic about it given she had trouble feeling the baby due to er... muscle, not fat!

macaroonmum · 18/04/2011 17:41

bitey Shock at FDH - that's not on.

Rocket Would you like cash or the equivalent in Italian food goodies?

Scorps 36 weeks (that's officially full term Shock) I can't really remember how much 'stuff' we had for thechild but I think a couple of Taggies and a coloured mat to lie on and a few dangly bits were enough for a few months (or four...)

I am also looking for a sling but need one that's open at the sides cos of the heat over here in the summer - a wrap would cook the bairn Shock I have one of these which was fabulous but is only from 6 months on. Anyone recommend one?

Don't think I've ever used so many Shock before!

Feeling better about not cleaning.

macaroonmum · 18/04/2011 17:43

Argh! missed a whole page of stuff...
