Oooh good luck Beartime - can't wait to hear your birth story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enthusia · 04/11/2005 07:22

Are you going to be our first online birth then Beartime? You seem to be doing very well at the mo! Are the contractions still 4 mins apart? Any water?

beartime · 04/11/2005 07:36

I don't know about online birth - the MWs might not be too impressed!!! But I know Iwanted to hear everyone elses as they went thru it, so I'm trying to write as much as I can
They've slowed down a little bit (6mins but quite painful) since I sat down. But in a minute I'm going to get up again - MW said b4 to be active most of the time, and then rest half an hour, so I've rested now I have to get up! Had a bit of a bloody discharge, but waters haven't broken. Will try and keep you informed - DH still asleep

What's the best position for paaaaaaaainful contractions?

Still every 4 mins Going to wake DH and run bath in a minute

twinkle1 · 04/11/2005 08:24

beartime
try all fours, squatting, laying on left hand side, or stand up and sway hips.I have had many people in labour use these positions.
2 paracetmol and a warm bath should help with the pain.

KristinaM · 04/11/2005 08:31

Hi beartime - are you still here? How are you feeling now? I have to say that if i thought I had been in labour since 330 I woudl have woken Dh befroe now. You are obviously a much kinder person than me - i woudl get really annoyed with him just sleeping while I was in pain!!!! BTW if you decide to go another walk, just make it round the garden or the block - no going 20 mins away from home!!!!!

OOOUUUCCHHH BAM, just the thought of a nearly 9lbs baby makes me cross my legs and cringe!!!!! Esp as you are so small! Thank goodness they are keeping an eye on you thsi time. I dont really undersatand about teh scans - teh mums who have had teh special growth scans seem to think they are quite accurate - i suppose because they measure several points on the baby. But then if you have small chunky heavy babies and I have long skinny heavy babies.....who knows......?????

BTW Dh getting more keen on the names Alex and Max ( one of not both!). I think they go so well with Tom but dont sound like trains. Have you decided ?

How are the rest of you today? This is my "morning off" a DS1 is in nursery. i am supposed to be doing housework etc but as you can see I am here on mumsnet . I have also guilt tripped Dh into collecting the kids from school and doing tea as he has been home late 2 nights this week already and is going out again tonight about 6 til teh wee small hours. And I am a bit sore after yesterday - feel like I have been kicked in the stomache - a bit bruised.Well worth it if it avoids a CS I hope. ( remind me that I said this if i end up delivering a huge baby vaginally and have a million stiches )

KristinaM · 04/11/2005 08:32

sorry beartime, cross posted. thinking of you

Enthusia · 04/11/2005 08:37

Beartime - I agree with Twinkle, in our NCT courses they said one of the best positions for painful contraction was standing, kneeling, bending over, on all fours or on a birthing ball moving your hips round in circles. As well as helping with pain it is also meant to aid baby's journey too.

Getting exciting now isn't it? Have you rung the MW yet?

KristinaM · 04/11/2005 08:39

Beartime - if you still have space between contractions to think and rest, check out Isa41:10 and 43:1-5

You are going to be just fine!

KristinaM · 04/11/2005 08:41

hey enthusia - how are you today?

Enthusia · 04/11/2005 08:44

Still here Kristina - feels as if the birth is moving further away not coming closer. Am having some rather sharp pains in privates at the mo though!!!!!

Other than that I am BORED, hooray for the weekend, going to a fireworks party tomorrow so maybe that will kickstart it all.

How are you?

beartime · 04/11/2005 08:48

Thanks Twinkle I'm going to do the paracetmol bath thing in a sec, and will try the positions.

DH does better with more sleep, so I'd rather let him sleep! Plus he'd only be worried about me I thought the same thing about walking - I don't want to go quite that far again!

Thanks for the verses Kristina - i had already memororised Is 41:10 so will have to make use of it now, and I just photocopied the other one you said so I can keep it with me

Bath running... will it slow contractions down if I stay too long in it tho' cos aren't you s'posed to stay active?

I've written down all the positions and will try - thank you!!!

twinkle1 · 04/11/2005 09:04

beartime
If you are in active labour eg 3cm or more dillated it will make no difference to contraction frequency. I f you phoned into the hosp they would advise bath paracetmol etc basically if you are ready for birth bath will make no difference other than help with pains and soften your bits up (sorry)

twinkle1 · 04/11/2005 09:06

Beartime
I cant remember if you are having a home birth???
If you are i would ring your midwife and let her know what is happening,(gives her chance to get sorted etc)

enthusia - I am Ok thanks, enjoying a few hours without kids, feeling a bit battered after yesyeday but delighted baby is head down at last.

Have a friend coming for lunch, though beginning to regret having invited her as she was a bit "off" on the phone earlier in the week. She has two kids and had very easy pregnancies and labours, quick easy deliveries and her boys BF really well. Soemtimes she can coem across as a bit superior - usually I can just ignore it but today am feeling super senstive. For example, when describing her labours she says " oh some women make such a fuss, I've had worse period pains" and when i told her I was going for the ECV yesterday she said " Oh I dont agree with any of that, I just let things happen naturally". Which i know is pretty stupid as by baby was undeliverable "natually"

Oh I sound like such a mean bitchy person

I think thats one of the reasons i like mumsnet ( well this thread anyway) as everyone is so kind and suportive. i never feel judged or looked down on by the rest of you. Even tho lots of you have delivered without any pain relief you have never been mean to those of us who need DRUGS ( oh yes puuulllleese) or other interventions. And no one has criticised anyone else about how they feed their baby

Diddle · 04/11/2005 09:09

enthusia - thank you, you were right I am 9 wks today, and yes heres to the next 31, i am wishing them away. I've never made it to 9 wks so its quite a milestone for me. Hope you're doing well, I have been stalking you too, checking if you've popped yet, good luck x x x

KristinaM · 04/11/2005 09:12

well done Diddle

twinkle - will you promise to be online when I am in labour, coz you give such good advice and sound so calm! I am so excited for beartime !!!!

Diege · 04/11/2005 09:13

OOh Beartime, goodluck!! . Hasn't your DH woken up yet?!!! You are very tolerant!!
Enthusia - baby more avtive here too. Thought nmovement would slow down at end, but MW thinks it's just him/her getting in place (though obviously not the brightest bubs, as still lying back to back...)Have got my bown way over names I think - remarkably little resistance last night over Louie Benjamin or Liberty Rose, but we'll see...
BTW, Jane pram construction now facing crisis point. DH is 'having trouble' getting both sides of car seat (flat one) to click into pram base. Anyone else been there?
Deige, 38+5

Enthusia · 04/11/2005 09:17

Kristina - really don't feel it is anyones right to criticise others about the subject of childbirth, bf etc. I may find a few ideas about them weird (ie lotus births) but I can't criticise as I haven't got the experience and have never been in another person's shoes.

I bet your friend finds somethings difficult that you think are really easy, it is all swings and roundabouts. And anyway. what does she mean by 'some women make such a fuss' I think she would find herself in the minority not the majority for a woman's perspective of childbirth, I mean if it was easy they would have called it something else other than 'labour', there would be no pain relief options because there wouldn't have been a need to be met, there wouldn't be antenatal classes and there wouldn't be half a many posts in the pg section of this site. What nonsense. Just enjoy your lunch in the thought that her boasting is probably covering up for areas of insecurities that you haven't got and that you can settle your areas by talking about them openly to people like us.

Ok rant over

Beartime how are you doing?

Diege · 04/11/2005 09:19

Hi Kristina - hmm, I don't envy you re: friend situation, but she may be feeling a bit of the green eyed monster by trying to play down what you're going to be going through! Agree that mumsnet girls are a lot more suportive than most people's cross-section of friends, though I have read rather bitter exchanges on other forums!! .

Enthusia · 04/11/2005 09:20

Diege, how about putting the side that won't click in, in first then the other one? Or getting them both in position before pressing down. Have had numerous difficulties, but after a number of goes it all works quite easily now (I think). Getting it secured in the car isn't the easiest of things though is it? Poor baby is going to thrown around and end up upside down by the time we get the seat out!!!!!

Diege · 04/11/2005 09:20

That's what I meant to say Enthusia!

Diege · 04/11/2005 09:24

crossed post! Yes, agree that sounds the most sensible option. I wasn't there when he was trying to sort it, but may havce a go myself today to impress him when he gets back from work. We're using a different car seat in car, as there's no way we can fit the Jane next to the other 2!
Diege

twinkle1 · 04/11/2005 09:35

Enthusia/diege
Blimey this jane thingy sounds complex!!! there is no way with my pregnancy brain i could figure any of it out
I have opted for a mothercare trenton system which works a lot like the graco ones.We have an auto base in the car which dh fitted and its a joy to be able to just plonk the car seat in it and thats it I suppose cos im having a section its a good job its easy.
How is the labour going bear???
