Morning all!

Beartime, I've just returned from my MW & yes, it was impossible getting the wee in the pot! I used to have a wide pot but the hospital took it off me & replaced it with a narrow one. As if it's not hard enough.

Twinkle1, I feel in a similar position to you. I love the area I live in now, North Yorks, but I sooo miss the Metrocentre!! I have tractors & girls on horses going past my window & thats it, really. Thank God for MN providing me with some female interaction.

Diege, thanks for your advice on early engagement. The MW has put 4/5th engaged in my notes but didn't tell me. I've had a feel myself & it feels like 4/5th palpable (which means 1/5th engaged). Was a bit concerned until I saw your post. I think with subsequent pregnancies the head can pop into & out of the pelvis as it wishes so I'm sure I'm not imminent. Phew! Not painted the lounge yet!! About the 3rd baby playing you up....the expected way of things is the more babies you have, the easier & shorter your labour. However, every now & then though, the labour doesn't start/progress with ease. The good news is that when you get to the active labour stage (after 4cm) you tend to progress well.

Chacha, hope your a/n appt goes well.

Jenjam, thanks for the hypnobirthing lesson!! I've decided not to bother with a TENS so it's useful to know about the visualisation techniques.

I'm contemplating starting the painting as I had a good night's sleep last night & I haven't got an excuse to lie on the sofa all afternoon. Looking forward to hearing about some new babies soon.

im fed up, wish i was going in tonight and not next week.I want to be able to get comfy again!!!

Diege · 03/11/2005 12:20

7,8,9,10...no good, can't inhale to 20 Jenjam!!Will have to practice as you suggest. Sounds like your hyponobirthing was pretty full on and good stuff, though I can't see my DH taking it seriously. Have had a sneaky look his hospital bag that he packed last night (awww..)A pair of swimming trunks for the pool, some atheletes foot powder (should I be concerned?), a shampoo that has seen better days from the travel lodge, several bike magazines, a toothbrush (no paste), and a bottle of beer!!!All put in loose. After laughing, pondered for a while on the difference in our bags/fate!
LOL re: weeing in pot! I have a MW appoint this afternoon, and have had to nick dd's toy make-up pot, and then 'transfer' into the narrow pot. Have had this problem right the way through this pregnancy, though could aim a mean shot in pregs 1 & 2!
Karma: thanks for ressurance re: 3 preg. Just have to get to 4 cms then, and hopefully won't be too long. I'll think of you if it is!.
Twinkle: is it next Tuesday you are in (have the 8th in my mind for some reason?)
Speak soon,
Diegexx

beartime · 03/11/2005 12:21

Busy, that seems like a long time till another appointment! They left me for two weeks between 37 and 39, but then weekly again, even tho' no probs.

I asked MW about policy on hind waters breaking, and she said she thinks there's less risk of infection but they still do the same thing, i.e. induce at 24 hrs. So I kept my mouth shut about the leakage!! It's not like it was that much anyway, and hasn't really carried on. But she also said if your waters break, walk round the block first b4 you ring the midwife, so I thought that's good advice! I've read so many stories about induction leading to c-section that the thought of it quite scares me (there isn't a scared face to put in!)

hollybelle · 03/11/2005 12:24

Hi all
Not posted here for months!!! Never seem to get the time. Congratulations to all you lucky ones who have had your babies.
Now 38+4 and hopefully will find out when I will be induced (if poss) next week. I was overdue and induced with my other 2 so thought I might aswell get it all sorted so that I can organise childcare. Don't expect anything to happen, head still free and babe keeps lying back to back but you never know!
good luck to you all wonder who will be next

beartime · 03/11/2005 13:42

Forgot to say, MW was excited about my show, and said I'd probably go into labour within the next week. But then reading the report she wrote after that she put 'no signs of imminent labour' - I guess that's cos I haven't had any Braxton Hicks.

Why do you think some people get them and not others?

rodeo1 · 03/11/2005 14:01

Oh come on you lot, have you not had your babies yet?! No, sorry I shouldn't got wishing your pregnancies away for my own interests!

Enjoy your big bumps while you can, they'll be gone in a month And I really miss mine! And you've got sooooo much to look forward to

rodeo1 · 03/11/2005 14:04

Oh forgot to say, saw a post on the Breast/bottlefeeding section last week from Yingers, seems she's had her baby, a girl, but don't know any details

JennyWren · 03/11/2005 14:14

Hiya. Sorry to crash - I'm trying to get hold of babyonboard, and she hasn't replied to my e-mail. Does anyone know if she's away from home at the moment, or if the stork has landed early .
Good luck to you all!

rodeo1 · 03/11/2005 14:14

Well I hope she doesn't mind (and also hope she doesn't think I'm a stalker ) but did a quick search and found this (on 'The beanies are cooking nicely' thread in PG) -

Hey all,

Ok have a little time before dd2 wakes! Ok it was all a bit mad, waters broke completely out of the blue on sunday night about 12.30, phoned hospital who told me had to go in to be monitored. No contractions. Once SIL arrived, headed off and got there about 1.30ish, they checked me and said I needed to stay overnight but labour not started. DH went home. I went to sleep. Contractions started about 3am and I thought nothing of it, they got worse and worse although had no idea about times as had no watch! Midwife checked me at 6.15am and i was 8cm dilated! No time for pain relief so was rushed to birth centre and I had her at 7.08am, dh did not make it in time!!!!!!!!!!!!

By yingers74 on Tuesday, 25 October, 2005 9:07:52 PM

FOrgot to say, she was 12 days early and weighed in at 7llb and 4ozs. And her name is Isabelle.

So CONGRATULATIONS Yingers!!

rodeo1 · 03/11/2005 14:16

Jenny Wren - We're not sure, she's been missing off here for a bit. Hope she is ok

JennyWren · 03/11/2005 14:25

Thanks Rodeo - I hope everything's OK. I tried e-mailing her again too, just in case!

beartime · 03/11/2005 14:29

rodeo, how can you possibly miss your bump!

SharonTW · 03/11/2005 15:09

hi everyone, hope you're all well today, I'm feeling really fed up but will spare you the details. Mum coming to spend the day tomorrow so hopefully will feel better and have some energy.
Didn't sleep well at all my tummy was so hard all night, this can't go on for another month, mind then I have a baby to look after for ever and ever - scary !!

novadandypowder · 03/11/2005 15:15

distraction definitly worked for the first stages of labour for me - making breakfast for lots of men about to go off and shoot each other with paint is a great way to ignore whats going on.

also agree with what someone said on here - get your DP and mw to lie to you during labour. I told mine to keep telling me that i was nearly there, it keeps the motivation going!

hope BoB is ok.

i don't miss my bump AT ALL, although i am now carrying nat around in a sling so it's like being pg all over again - except i can just take it off when i feel like it!

Enthusia · 03/11/2005 15:25

Have just updated my pg diary, which consists of all my posts on here copied and pasted into Word. So far it comes to a grand total of 72 pages Think I amy need to shorten it a little!!!!!

karmamother · 03/11/2005 15:28

Nova, just to add to my post to you on the postnatal thread....not only did I have ds attached like a permanent limpet, but I also had him in bed with me almost from birth! Thats how I got any sleep at all!! It really is the path of least resistance when they're that young!!

BEKsmum · 03/11/2005 15:33

Hello girls, am I still welcome?!! I know it's been a while since I last posted & i must be honest and say I haven't managed to catch up on how everyone is doing so I hope you are all hanging on in there.

Thought I'd better get round to giving you the gory details of Thomas's arrival as I appeared to disappear in to thin air for a while.

So here goes, i was backwards & forwards to the hospital most of the week prior to having Thomas and only just managed to get out on Monday 24th as my BP was very high, went back Tuesday and Wednesday for monitoring and on Wednesday 26th my BP went to 191/106 adnd I was sent straight to the labour ward for what I thought would be further monitoring until I was to be induced on Thursday night, how wrong was I!!!

I got up to the labour ward at mid day and by 12:30 I'd been given drugs to control the eclampsia as it had become and I was induced so by the time my dh arrived I was already on my way!

At 7:30pm they broke my waters and by 8:30pm the contractions were coming thick and fast and it was starting to hurt quite a bit. The midwife wanted to put me on a drip to speed up the contractions but I refused as they were coming every minute or so as it was.

By 9:30pm I was in a lot of pain and the midwife checked me and said I was only 4cm dilated - I was not amused. However this is when things got intersting as they suggested that I have an epidural but my body decided that while it was being sited I would need to push. So pain relief was now not an option!!!

The midwife couldn't understand why I was suddenly in such a hurry only to find when she checked me that I had dilated the final 6cm in under an hour and that she could now see the head!!!

She told me I could push when I wanted and 3 pushes later Thomas Samuel entered the world like a rocket all together serious labour was just3hrs 14mins!!!

Thankfully Thomas is the most passive, contented baby I have ever come across and is an absolute delight other than the fact that he is currently awake from 5am onwards so that's probably when I'll be posting from now on!!!

Well that's the way to jinx myself, Thomas has now woken up and is demanding a feed so I'd best go. Will try to catch up with you all again soon. Beks

karmamother · 03/11/2005 15:45

Three pushes????

Three pushes???? You lucky bugger!

novadandypowder · 03/11/2005 15:46

BEKS - come and join us on the Nov. post natal thread when you get some time (hahahahahaha)!

Thanks again Karma xx

Enthusia · 03/11/2005 16:18

Beks - Good to hear the details on Thomas' birth, and glad it wasn't too long or difficult considering what it may have been like!!!!! I am also really glad your DH got back in time, I was wondering about that!!!!!!

Oh and congratualtions Yingers!!!!!!!!

novadandypowder · 03/11/2005 16:47

gah - why did no-one tell my cats that the clocks have changed!!! they won't stop harassing me for food

ChaCha · 03/11/2005 16:52

Congratulations to Yingers - hadn't seen much of her on this particular thread - that's great news!

Well done Beks! It's so nice to hear from you and 3 pushes!! Wow, there's hope for me yet

I've seen my m/w today but it seems for the last time I actually feel sad that I won't be seeing her again. I have a scan booked for Monday followed by a consultancy on 17.11 and then my due date is a week away - isn't that odd?!? I feel like i'm left high & dry. Thought that I would have MORE care now that I'm in the final stages. Seems your quite the same Busy, am i right? Everything seems fine, notes from delivery suite say baby's head is 4/5 engaged but m/w said 2/5 from feeling, so I guess it's just enough to go with 'it's actually engaged' for the time being. She estimates baby is about 7.5lbs right now, how they can tell that I do not know and said there is every chance i'll go post term I so hope not!

For personal reasons I asked if our hospital would allow us to retain the placenta which is fine but she told me some stories that put me into pass out mode...who would eat the placenta? And why give it to your pet? I felt ill, I kid you not! Twinkle? Karma?

Must check that email i have from BoB with her phone number in it...she posts on here everyday! Unusual.
