ChaCha · 15/11/2005 14:34

Am i the only one left who is having their first baby? I must seem like a real wimp!

The shooting pains get worse, I'm sure it's his head moving down even more. I will NOT be able to walk at all at this rate. Have managed to make dinner and potter around downstairs but must rest now, bath and film I think! Pains are quite scary, had one while eating lunch just now and threw my fork across the table..poor DH's face whenever this happens, he just goes so pale and concerned looking - bless!! Oh .. and constantly shouts 'BREATHE!'...oh boy!!!

karmamother · 15/11/2005 15:02

Chacha, you poor thing. It sounds like DH is getting some practice in for when it all starts! The problem is with a first baby the head is engaged already. I have that pleasure to look to. I keep checking every morning before I get out of bed & the head is still free. Hopefully I can use this as a bit of a warning.

KristinaM, it must be a real nightmare trying to juggle all your LO's whilst making sure you get some rest. I'm counting my blessings as my ds is almost 9yrs & even gets his own breakfast!! Oh before I forget, no prostaglandin is getting anywhere near me until the carpet has been fitted this week!!! You know how you feel when you bring your baby home from hospital & you need to have your house spic & span? Well, the living room is still a tip so the baby CANNOT come until next week.

Sarah & Sharon, enjoy your rest!!!

novadandypowder · 15/11/2005 15:08

rofl - and that ladies, is what lack of sleep can do to you...

ChaCha · 15/11/2005 15:19

Karma What do you mean the head is engaged already? I know that it's engaged from last scan (feels like it's still moving down though..any further and will be out am sure) and some part of his body am assuming shoulders maybe? is wriggling around - strangest sensation, can't quite explain it!! Are you saying that the head doesn't engage till labour in subsequent pregnancies? I'm really sorry for being thick, pls explain.... I am a sucker for knowledge

Off for bath x

mamman · 15/11/2005 16:32

Hi all that are left with big bumps.
So MW home visit today, all well and now booked in for induction next monday if no baby by then. But had membrane sweep today - quite uncomfortable - which increases chance of spontaneous labour in 24-48hr so baby might come before w/e afterall!
MW said head was quite far down and she couldnt wiggle it about like before so I think that might be engaged and apparently my cervix is softening which is a good sign.
Had an awful night last night and really thought that we were starting - needed bath at 11pm and hot water bottle on back for rest of night to ease aching. But still no baby!!. MW keeps on saying sex is the answer to bringing on labour but not sure if Im that desperate yet..........

sarahsausage · 15/11/2005 18:19

Cha cha - they say most of the time in subsequent pregnancies that the head doesnt engage until labour, although at my last appt baby's head was in fact 2/5ths down already.

Have slept from 2 until 5.30 and am still tired. Dps mum has offered to let me stay with them for a couple of days. Which will be great help as dp's 12 year old sister is great with Mia and is a BIG help. Mia adores her so they can play and let me sleep a little longer, although i wont get to sleep in in the morning as have midwife appt at 10.15.

But this also means that i cant get online for the next couple of days

Will check in as soon as i can. Good luck ladies

Sarah xx

karmamother · 15/11/2005 19:00

Evening ladies.

Chacha, Sarah's right that subsequent pregnancies don't usually engage until you're about to go into labour. I'm not sure but I think it's because the uterus is more lax so baby has more space. Your uterus is nice & toned so baby's head gets pushed into the pelvis.

Mamman, sounds like you'll be next. If you don't fancy BDing, there's always fresh pineapple.

Sarah, enjoy your rest at DP's mum's house. How old is Mia? Is she excited about the imminant arrival?

Well, I've had a fruitful afternoon. Ran out of paint so had a trip to B&Q, then off to Argos for DS's birthday present. Also got some breastmilk freezer bags from Boots. I'm going to express my colostrum before the delivery & freeze it so I can hopefully avoid giving formula to bubs. As I have GD, she might have a low blood sugar & the paediatricians will try & give formula. If I have a supply of colostrum to give her in between boob feeds then we may be ok. Will have to hand express in the privacy of bathroom as DP will think I've gone quite mad. He's not had any previous experience with bf as his ex gave bottles so he has a steep learning curve ahead of him!! I've told him all he needs to do is keep bringing me nice treats to eat whilst I'm feeding & we'll be fine.

Off to have my boring dinner of fish & veg.

SmithTheCat · 15/11/2005 19:13

Only just found this section of MN, so hope it's ok to barge in. Currently at 38+5 and had interesting moment this morning - found huge splat of blood and snot in the loo (sorry if TMI), thought it must have been a show, that I'd left there during one of my 9 or so visits during the night. Aaagh, panic, excitement, only to discover that my DH had left it there when he had a nosebleed first thing in the morning . I'm glad I found out before I told the MW. Anyone else due in the rest of Nov or are you all December? Where is the Post Natal thread? Hoping I might need it soon.

karmamother · 15/11/2005 19:45

Hi there, SmithTheCat. Welcome to the ladies who are hanging onto their bumps! Most of the Nov ladies have popped over to the postnatal thread & the rest of us on here are geting really fed up, as you can clearly see. Did your DH see the funny side of leaving his snot in the loo?? BTW, did your thread about cats answer your question? I have a cat too & I'm worried about the same thing. After reading your thread I've decided to put a catflap on the shed door, put her fleecey bed in there & that can be her new home. I know it sounds a bit cruel but I'm certain she'll want to leave home anyway once she hears the baby cry!

SmithTheCat · 15/11/2005 20:35

Hi Karmamother, ho ho yes DH saw the funny side of leaving "nasal shows" after I gave him a cuff round the ear (verbally, laughing). Heard another good one today, a friend had her DS back in the summer. She'd spent all day sitting in the garden on the grass and had noticed that there were an awful lot of rather large slugs about. Later after she'd showered she felt something sticky on her and in horror a slug which had got between her legs, euch! After a minute or two she realised it was infact a show...:0
Think we may be getting somewhere with the cat thing, as we have now bought it a lovely deep furry fleece bed which it amazingly voluntarily prefers to anywhere else. I can't see it living in the shed, unless DH moves in first, as they are devoted to each other. We'll just have to see how it goes.... Ho ho one of the people on that thread suggested that all animals are perfectly trainable not to come upstairs, because her dog doesn't. Obviously has never understood why there is a phrase "as difficult to organise as hearding cats". I can just see the blank look the cat would give me When are you due? I'm the 24th.

ChaCha · 15/11/2005 20:56

Hi to Mamman and Welcome SmithTheCat...

Sarah - Sounds like a great opportunity for some rest and possible TLC. Enjoy your break there and we hope to hear from you very soon! Keep us posted.

Karma - I was intrigued about freezing the colostrum, what a good idea! Sorry about your boring fish and veg but won't be long now till you can indulge a little i daresay.

Have had a busy night of arranging wardrobes again, speak tomorrow x

karmamother · 15/11/2005 21:14

Just a quickie as the telly beckons.

Chacha, take it easy, enough with the furniture arranging!

SmithTheCat, my DP is a dog person & is finding my cat's presence a little, erm, trying. He can't understand why she won't do as she's told! Having said that, he's managed to instill in her a fear of going upstairs to lie on the beds. We just need to do something about her desire to shed fur everywhere.......!
I'm due on the 25th, BTW.

novadandypowder · 15/11/2005 21:55

only skim read as I'm off to bed whilst I get the chance..

re: cats - I have 3, and they have adjusted really well. If they get a bit fed up with the crying they just move away to another bit of the house. Just make sure you don't start treating them differently, otherwise they'll associate the baby with the bad things and react accordingly. As for stopping them going into rooms, you just have to make sure you keep all the doors closed. My DH accidently left our bedroom door open for 5 mins and we found the cat in the moses basket (must stress DD was NOT in it at the time). The cat isn't to blame though - I volunteer at an animal shelter and you won't believe the number of cats that people get rid off when they have kids, it's not fair

SharonTW · 15/11/2005 23:37

Hi everyone bet you're all snuggly in bed, I've let DH go up first tonight as I feel bad about keeping him awake all last night then sending him out to work at half 7, Cha Cha think we're at the same stage, I can't walk very far now and feel quite vunerable going out at all, keep getting big pains too and scaring everyone I'm with, last night my whole tummy and back were hurting on and off though I was off but alas ...
Can't be long now , so everyone tells me, my Nana who has alzeheimers (sorry for spelling) said good luck as I left today and told me not to be scared , bless her, made me think though !! She also told me I'm having a wee fellow (Irish accent) we'll see.
Well hope you all have a good nights sleep x
night night
Sharon 39+4 ps Cha Cha my first too !!

ChaCha · 16/11/2005 06:38

Morning all,
Guess that's all the sleep I'm getting today then! [yawn] I actually dreamt of two little kittens last night (they probably looked more like cubs), they were very frightened, jumped up on me (they were a bit ferocious) and I didn't know what to do..sang to them and stroked them till they fell asleep and when they awoke they ran away! Dream still v.clear in my mind...hmmm. (p.s. I'm scared of cats!)

Sharon - You've only days to go until your EDD, you must be really excited. I've still got 10 days to go if on time..days seem to drag a little right now but I shouldn't complain and benefit from 'alone' time as much as possible. Heard DH whispering to MIL on phone last night saying 'She keeps cleaning everything and won't stop till it's done..is that okay?' LOL

Hopefully my father will be flying over weekend or just after, inlaws will arrive when baby makes appearance (may stay in hotel) and mum will travel down and stay while dad visits friends (no way to be in same house). Will probably be a hectic few weeks but hopefully everyone is happy now and all goes well. I adopting new 'go with the flow' attitute for sanity and peace of mind!

See you all later x

Diddle · 16/11/2005 07:50

chacha - pmsl at your DH, bless him, he shoudl be thrilled that you're cleaning so much, my DH would be, I'm doing nothing at all at the moment, baby is sapping all my energy from me.
I hope it all goes well for you, don't worry your bundle of joy will be wiht you soon x x x thinking of you

LilJ · 16/11/2005 11:11

Hi all! Still here and getting very fed up with this whole pregnancy lark. Met with consultant on Monday who said that although baby was big, not too big so they're leaving it to do what it wants to do - arghhhhh! That evening I thought I was definitely in early labour as was having what I thought was contractions every 25 mins or so with major lower back pain - used tens machine which helped a lot and also took a nice long bath. Then it stopped and I was feeling pretty normal yesterday. So false alarm - but having DH panic and frantically start repacking the hospital bag was quite funny.

Anyway I really really want this baby to come soon, as everything is uncomfortable now and I'm not enjoying it any more - winge winge!! I can't really complain as I've had a really easy pregnancy for the whole time, but if the baby decided today was the day I'd be delighted.

Well off to drink more pineapple juice & raspberry leaf tea, then a longish walk might be in order ...

J xx 38+5

Busyalexsmummy · 16/11/2005 11:17

sarahsausage-Im feeling the same, not helped by a toddler teething and interupted sleep
last week. Running round after toddlers definately takes it out of you more,I didnt feel this bad with ds

KristinaM- You have to have eyes in the back of your ar*e with them dont you! Alex is exactly the same! little monkeys!

well, nothing to report here..........I just know I'll end up going in for induction!

ChaCha · 16/11/2005 11:22

Hi Diddle, Nice to hear from you - hoping you're getting plenty of rest but if you're still in same line of work I doubt that you are!! Do you still have as many?

LilJ - Was wondering how your consultancy went as I have mine tomorrow. I have a feeling that's more or less what i'm going to be told too and I feel exactly as you do. LOL at your DH too, at least yours didn't jump out of bed and have a nice, long shower!! I would have had the baby by the time he got me to the car had it been the real thing funny though! He's been warned for next time..

Just managed to sleep for a few hours while sat up in bed with the whole of the pillow family. Feeling a little better now. x

SharonTW · 16/11/2005 12:27

Hello ladies, just checking in, had a decent sleep and no pains ! Getting impatient now too, not even dressed yet that's so bad isn't it ?
Going to make an effort now x
Sharon 39+5

Diddle · 16/11/2005 12:42

thanks chacha - hardly any time to rest, although beign a childminder, if i need to sit down for a bit i can. got veen more kids now than beofre, i'm rushed off my feet, but after xmas there is a lot of changes and some kids are moving on, which will give me a well deserved rest.

SharonTW · 16/11/2005 14:27

quiet here today , hope you're all ok, just going to take dog on the beach for a bit x

karmamother · 16/11/2005 15:28

Just popping in quickly to say hi to all.

Chacha, good to hear you're getting some rest. Not long now.

Diddle, OMG, being pg as a childminder! I'm not worthy! You must be a truly amazing woman. I couldn't do it.

Well, had a dream last night that I gave birth to the baby by section & whilst they were stitching me up I got off the theatre table & walked over to baby to lob her on the breast!! She latched on beautifully, I might add. Hope the section bit isn't a premonition & the latching bit is!!

Still same amount of BH's, lots of backache but nowt else. Getting really fed up with trying to get comfy during the night. When I turn over, DP thinks it's like the QEII coming into harbour, cheeky sod.

I shall catch up tonight to see if anyone has gone into proper labour!

38+5

KristinaM · 16/11/2005 16:34

hi all, still here. still no signs of anything. baby's head now 2/5 engaged which i hope is enough to keep him in place but still be able to walk comfortably!!

Dr and HV this morning suggested an " italian induction" - can you guess what they meant???

Answer later this evening.......

unless it works of course....

KristinaM · 16/11/2005 16:35

karma - are you sure your Bh are BH and not early labour? Is your baby OP?
