lol - thanks Thell. FIL's middle name is Trevor - you don't get many baby Trevor's these days do you

Chloe55 · 01/11/2005 13:26

Have to say I agree with Thell, very childish of your parents but what a shame for them, you and Chip , I hope it can be resumed in the longterm, my grandparents have always meant so much to me. My BIL has the same problem with his parents and now they never see their 2 boys which I think is so sad.

thell · 01/11/2005 13:41

Maybe you can revive popularity for 'Trevor'!
Did you see any of the 'He's Having a Baby' series on BBC1? Tried it, but thought it was too irritating to keep watching. But there was a male presenter who decided to make it his personal mission to revive interest in the name 'Barry', and visited maternity wards trying to drum up support!! Hmmm - I quite fancied honouring my DH's lovely Mum, but her name is Barbara. And her older sister who died a few years back was called Brenda.
Pah!!

thell · 01/11/2005 13:55

I think I might have had 2 mild Braxton Hicks this morning. It felt like 3K described - a slightly tight bit across the front of the bump, and it felt like something was gathering up and protruding from the middle! Bit difficult to tell though, as DH had his warm hand on there at the time.

Frizbe · 01/11/2005 14:10

Hi all, you've been chatting loads today again!!
JuA I agree with Tabs, get your dh to start helping you get ready now, those twins could well be here by Xmas Hope your dd is feeling better now.

Flame, bless your little dd and her dummies

Tabs grrr at your parents, honestly you'd think they'd grow up! especially with a grandchild on the way....

Tabs · 01/11/2005 14:14

Unfortunately she's always been like it. Had a paddy in the run up to my wedding and said for a couple of months that she wasn't going to come to that either, but she did in the end. Doubt she'll change her mind about Christmas though.

I saw the 'Barry' thing. Wasn't it an awful programme though - gave up watching after the first couple, but saw odd snippets of some of the others, including the one where they had a newborn Barry in the studio!!

We are actually planning to use my mum's mum's name as a middle name if we have a girl. I shall think of it in honour of nan rather than mum though!

thell · 01/11/2005 14:25

I'm so pleased they managed to find a wee Barry!

flamesparrow · 01/11/2005 15:58

I've always wondered how people can look at their teeny new life, and think "ah yes, Barry it is!"

I'm aching soooooooo much - all my own fault - been walking round Corfe Castle. DD's gonna sleep soooooooooo well tonight - she's walked all day. She was tired when she got out the car though, I told her we'd watch mickey mouse, and she said "No mousth... dummy back" Happily sprawled on the floor with mickey now though

JuA · 01/11/2005 18:49

Dh has promised that we will get sorted when he finishes his week of nights (starts Friday) so I will be able to hassle him then
I am sure we will be ready - dd moved into her bed over the weekend with absolutely no problems so at least they will have somewhere to sleep. I have made a list of everything we need to buy and will probably get most of it on line. The only thing I haven't found is 2 nice fleece blankets for them. dd has a lovely teddy bear one and I wanted one each (different) for these 2 as well.

TheOriginalTicTac · 01/11/2005 20:21

Jua - just on the need to buy everything front. The Preston and Chorley NCT have a "nearly new" sale this Saturday at some place on Garstang road in Preston. We are not going but you might be interested.

DH and I are currently painting the nursery..I have slipped out to say hi!

3k · 02/11/2005 09:12

Morning all,

I am feeling a LOT better today, must have been going through a few days of just feeling down.

Last night we went to Bluewater and did most of our Christmas Shopping, we got absolutely loads and Boots has some excellent stuff this year. Also went to WH Smith and they have 3 for 2 aswell so I literally only have to buy for my mum and my nephew and get a few selection boxes from Sainsbury's next time I go. I feel a lot better now, I didnt want to be rushing around the shops in the crowds next month with a huge bump. It's hard enough to walk a lot now let alone in 6 weeks time. Even DH managed to get a few bits for his family which is a shock as normally he gives me money to go out on Christmas Eve to get his stuff!! We also paid off another £100 off the cot, £100 to go but it's not coming until January 7th.

TicTac I really want to paint my nursery, DH and his dad are going to do more wardrobe making tonight, it is coming along - SLOWLY! As soon as they are all in I can get in there with my roller!! We have the underlay for the carpet now and a blackout blind too so just want to go for it.

ixel · 02/11/2005 09:32

Hello all. I've done most of my xmas shopping too, but largely in last years January sales!!

Off to get ds's next free Pixi photo done today, from when he had to eat 50 tubs of babyfood The last one will hopefully be able to be a joint one with newbie, which will be nice.

Also just found out that someone has scammed my ebay account and tried to 'sell' a tractor on it. So I've had to change all my passwords on it and my email etc etc. I'm not impressed! I dont think there's any way I can have lost any money though, so thats one good thing. Dh will still go mad about lack of security etc.

Also trying to plan ds's 2nd birthday party. Do you think we should do pass the parcel (guests range between 7 months and 3 1/2), or just leave them to play? And how am I going to fit everyone in the house if its too wet to play outside?!

Tabs · 02/11/2005 10:20

Morning all .

Great to hear you sounding so much brighter 3K. Couldn't you have done my Christmas shopping for me whilst you were at Bluewater . I never have a clue what to get anyone. I have 21 kids to buy for ranging from age 0 (literally - was due yesterday!) to age 12, but half of them are from a very wealthy family, so it's not like there's ever anything that they are short of!

I must find a day to go to Bluewater myself - want to do it on a weekday to avoid crowds, so had better see if one of my part time friends wants to come with me.

Ixel - I used to love pass the parcel, but have no idea from what age I'm afraid! Are the younger kids parents staying with them? I guess that if they are then they could always do the unwrapping for them.

Flame - you having a lie in to recover from yesterday's walking?!

3k · 02/11/2005 10:59

Tabs - Bluewater was lovely and quiet last night, it is open until 10pm at the moment too which is great.

Does anyone know about SSP for people who have a limited company? I have a limited company which doesnt earn a lot to be honest but if I got sick and wanted to claim could I?

Tabs · 02/11/2005 11:04

I would have thought that you could claim yes. Your company would pay you and then it would claim it back from the government. I'd recommend sticking a post in the 'employment' section, as I think that there are quite a few people on MN with limited companies who can probably help. Or didn't you say that you have some people do your accounts for you - they could probably advise too.

Tabs · 02/11/2005 11:44

Where's everyone else gone today then? We've usually heard from at least Chloe by this time of the morning. Maybe she's been locked up for having no car tax .

thell · 02/11/2005 11:59

Greetings, fellow bumpsters!
I've just finished reading 'The Water Birth Book' by Janet Balaskas. It is FABULOUS. Even if you think that a waterbirth or waterlabour isn't for you, there are two excellent chapters, which I'm going to take copies from. One chapter explains in detail what happens to the body during labour, including the hormones and how you can encourage them and manage your environment to maximize the efficacy of contractions. The other is about the pros and cons of medical interventions, with advice about when it is and isn't sensible to say 'no' - particularly great for those who want their birth to be as natural as possible. Just the kind of advice I've been looking for.

I also blubbed most of the way through 'City Hospital' this morning, watching a beautiful boy being born by caesarean. The mother was a doctor from the Sudan - her third baby - she still went into theatre saying 'I miss my Mum!'

thell · 02/11/2005 12:11

3K - glad you're feeling brighter

cuffyj1 · 02/11/2005 12:13

Morning everyone

Hope everyone ok.

I slept loads better apart from waking up in agony at 3am with cramp in my calf and could i hell get rid of it, when i tried pulling my toes up i got cramp in them too. In the end (nearly crying by this time) i woke dh up who had to get out of bed straighten my leg out and force my toes back (like they do to footballers on the pitch) very painful!

Just finally been to B&Q to buy paint so gonna get cracking with the nursery. As we arrived home the catalogue company we've ordered the cot from rang to say they're delivering it 2morra between 7am & 7pm, so we really need to get a move on.

I'm just gonna get ready for work now so hope everyone has a good ache and pain free day.

Jasnem · 02/11/2005 12:36

hello all,

just back from my weekly session helping at DDs school. I really enjoy it and its the only way I get to find out what they do at school.

tabs - part time friends what do they do the rest of the time?

3k - you sound so much better, good for you.

ixel - you will probably have tears from kids that young if you play pass the parcel, they just don't under stand the concept . It might work if there are only five or six, but most can't wait that long to get a turn to unwrap. Oh and you have to make sure there is a present in each layer! Its easier just to play things like musical statues and have no winners.

I am suffering from terrible moods this week. DP is generally unhelpful, but I usually cope without it bothering me, but at the moment I cry or shout or both at almost everything he does. I get so stressed I can't sleep or eat and am beginning to make myself ill. I'm not sure what to do as he isn't actually doing anything different, it's definitely me.

flamesparrow · 02/11/2005 15:05

Sorry about your toes Cuffy!!!

B woke up at 10pm last night (just as I was crawling into bed), and DH brought her back downstairs because she was very upset about something, but we had no idea what!! I don't know how long she was up for, but I do know that she slept until 8.30am... heaven! And she didn't just sit in bed and yell for me, she came in and woke me with a big kiss

Not too bad today after the walking yesterday... been out again today, and walked lots, so may be a crumpled heap this evening. DH is going out for th eveening, so I get a nice relaxy night.

Where's Chloe???

flamesparrow · 02/11/2005 15:07

Pass the parcel - tends to depend on the personality of the children, and if they are getting something in each layer - if they aren't then they will get bored very quickly.

3k · 02/11/2005 15:12

Hello all,

I have had a bit of a shit day but I'm surprisingly very calm. As you all know I work as self employed but my old boss employs me!! Basically I just work for him but through my own company, he told me today that he is considering the accountants I work for and going to work in Croydon where we can either go and work for him or look for another job. I'm not 100% happy here anyway but it is another thing to worry about isnt it with the baby on the way. I just hope he waits til I leave in Jan before doing it as at least then I will get my SMP (big £90 a week) but at least something and then I can look whilst I am on leave.

Hopefully my re-mortgage will complete over the next few days too, just heard from finance man and they are only waiting on a redemption certificate so fingers crossed.

Leaving here at 3.30pm, very tired today especially after my night of shopping last night! FIL coming to do wardrobes later but I'm hoping to get an hours sleep before then.

3k · 02/11/2005 15:13

That should say "selling the accountants" I told you I was tired!!!!!!
