Snow in Lancashire - but it seems to be stopping

TheOriginalTicTac · 28/11/2005 10:17

Jua - has stopped here too (in work in Manchester today) :-(

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 12:09

God I f**king hate this place!!! I'm so sorry to swear but the physio has just contacted me about my sciatica and has booked me in for an appointment on wed afternoon. I have told my boss and he has told me to work through my lunches to make up for the time I will have to take off! I have started a thread asking if he is allowed to ask me to do this. I wouldn't mind but I answer the bloody phone throughout my lunchtime anyway so it's not like I have an official lunch break! I've got a good bloody mind to call in sick for the rest of the week and see how he likes that!!

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 12:10

On top of that I have bugger all to do so how can I be expected to work through my lunch?!!!

hotmama1 · 28/11/2005 12:26

Chloe55 - tell him to bugger off! I also have got an appt to see a physio for my back. This counts as part of your antenatal care which he legally has to give you time off to attend - you don't have to make the time up. From an employers perspective it would be nice to have appts at the beginning or end of the day - but the NHS doesn't necessarily work like this does it?

32 weeks this week - I must do my hospital bag - really hope she comes early - just after Christmas would be nice (like 'they' take any notice of our desires and come when they want!)

Yay - agree re those crappy Conway sisters - but why oh why is Chico still in - Chico time it is not!

No snow here - just freezing cold - hope you are all well.

Jasnem · 28/11/2005 12:28

Oh Chloe, your work sounds so crappy. I do feel for you, and if it was me I'd have gone by now. Can you not class your appointment as antinatal, which he would have to give you. I hope so, but i don't know the legalities. I did go to aquanatal classes when pregnant the first time and left early for that once a fortnight without being penalised though, so it sounds to me like hes being deliberately difficult.

hotmama1 · 28/11/2005 12:31

Agree - if you midwife says you need to attend aquanatal classes this also counts as antenatal care.

Have you got a Personnel section you can talk to? If not look on the Maternity Alliance website - I'm sure there is stuff on there. HTH.

JuA · 28/11/2005 12:40

Chloe - I am sure you should be entitled to time off - you cannot be expected to work during lunchtimes
maternity alliance

if your midwife has referred you then you should be entitled to time off.

Jasnem · 28/11/2005 12:51

I've posted the link I think you need on your other thread. Can I suggest you print it and ram it down his throat.

TheOriginalTicTac · 28/11/2005 13:18

Chloe - can't find other thread but your employer will be in breach of 2 binding contracts of employers

1/ Working time directorate - you must not work any more then 6 hours without a minimum 20 minute break - legal requirement and he can not break it!

2/ Maternity alliance - you are entitled to reasponible paid time off to attend all ante-natal care as prescribed by your health worker. This does not entitle you to chosen activities such as Yoga unless your healthcare worker has advised you to do this on medical grounds. Again, this is not an option for your boss..it is a must.

Hope that helps a little!

xx

TheOriginalTicTac · 28/11/2005 13:20

LOL...meant reasonible time...obviously thinking your boss was not responsible at the time I typed it!!

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 13:22

Thanks everyone, feel so angry at him but much better that I now have a hard copy of evidence that he is a tw*t and that I am entitled to paid leave for this appointment. Look what this man does to me - I have a filty mouth

Jasnem · 28/11/2005 13:29

He's had a similar effect on me , and I've never met him!

Frizbe · 28/11/2005 13:54

Go ladies!
Your boss had better come no where near us girls Chloe!
Shame its stopped snowing for you all a bit further north.....we had a few flakes here, then it stopped too... still we can hope there's more to come

Frizbe · 28/11/2005 14:12

Hotmama, fingers x'd it snows for you, its just started over here!

TheOriginalTicTac · 28/11/2005 14:34

It has been snowing in Manchester city centre all day but not sticking and 10 mins up the road where DH works, it has snowed on and off yet stuck so they are all snow balling each other....

3k · 28/11/2005 15:05

Hi All,

Chloe your boss sounds like a pr*ck! Sorry!! He souds like my boss!!! We should make a stand and tell them to bugger off!! He took us out for lunch today and then got rid of my colleague by asking her to get some drinks then asked me what my intentions were to travelling to Croydon every day. I told him I dont want to do it, the journey in rush hour would be a nightmare. He also said ages ago that he wouldnt pay us sick pay but my colleague had 2 weeks off with mumps and other stuff and he paid her full pay - if I had a few days of it would come out of my salary like a shot.

No snow in Kent either, was really hoping for some but just cloudy.

Had dinner at DH parents house yesterday and my SIL is expecting in July next year - it would be quite nice as babies will grow up together. I dont really have any close mates with babies so it would be nice to have someone to chat to about that kind of stuff.

womba1 · 28/11/2005 15:14

Good afternoon all!
I have about 5 mins before i have to pick ds up but i just had to try and get on here! I had to see my consultant this a.m for a follow up after last weeks scan... he's given me my date for my elective c-section... the 25th January!!! I'll be 38 weeks... and i feel sick at knowing so soon when it's going to be happening!!
That's only 8 weeks away... ... jeez, i need a drink!!
Anyway, just had to get that off my chest... hope you're all doing wonderfully and am hoping to read this entire thread later and check back in with you all...
Womba x

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 15:20

Ooooh Womba - you have a date?! How scary!! At least you can prepare for that date now though - if you can prepare for these things

3K I remember you having probs with your boss before, why is it that some people are such nobs and how the hell did they ever get to be in a managerial position? My boss is holding interviews for my maternity as we speak and so far he has turned his nose up at any men applying for the job, anyone who has an ounce of intelligence just in case they are brainier than him and also anyone who might possibly be able to bear children in the next five years!

JuA · 28/11/2005 16:15

Wow womba - A date!
I reckon that will be the week I have mine unless they decide to come before!

Chloe - your boss is going to struggle to find anyone to replace you as he seems to be ruling out 80% of the workforce!! At least that is the least of your worries!

The snow has nearly all gone now - it did try and snow some more at lunchtime but didn't stick! We did manage to get out and make some footprints!

flamesparrow · 28/11/2005 16:18

Well... I managed 13 days... now I've splatted again Why can't I have nice balanced moods???

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 16:20

Why what's happened FS?

flamesparrow · 28/11/2005 16:22

Nothings happened as such, just want to hide away from the world and cry again I've been feeling so happy and normal for the past two weeks, I thought I'd beaten it.

Chloe55 · 28/11/2005 16:26

Do we ever 'beat it' throughout pregnancy? It's been one hell of a rollercoaster ride for me as regards to moods. I've had a lovely weekend then all this crap has happened at work today and I too just want to go home and cry, I guess I have a reason for it today but I would not normally allow a little jobsworth to wind me up as much as he has.

Jasnem · 28/11/2005 16:43

Womba- wow! I can't imagine knowing the exact date, I'm still living with this vague notion of "sometime in Feb". It's all getting serious

Flame - I'm sorry you're feeling low again. Maybe you've overdone it while you've been feeling so much better?

No snow here - it's actually quite sunny today, and not that cold.
