Morning girls,

Oh my God, I can't believe all these early baby stories, thankfully they seem to be doing well though which is reassuring. Heartburn is kicking my ass too at the moment Flame but DH is actually finding secret pleasure in it because he suffers from acid indigestion ALL the time and sups Gaviscon like water so he is revelling in me moaning about it and forcing the putrid stuff down my neck!

Sooooooooooooooo looking forward to next week, I have my 3d/4d scan on sat woohoo! And a couple of good friends are organising a party for me on the sat night with my friends and family (all girls) so we can watch the dvd and I have a surprise apparantly.

Tabs · 21/11/2005 09:13

Morning ladies. It was quiet on here over the weekend wasn't it! Does anyone else find that the weekends are flying by since we changed the clocks? I think the dark afternoons combined with me wanting to sleep in due to tiredness mean that they seem to be over before they've started!!

Hope everyone is feeling healthy and cheery this morning?

Flame - glad you enjoyed Harry Potter. Think I'm one of only a handful of people in the country who has never read a HP book or seen a HP film, and has no desire to!

Tabs · 21/11/2005 09:15

Crossed posts Chloe - sounds like a fun weekend ahead! No doubt you will be showered with pressie's for your son!

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 09:38

Tabs I'm with you on the just not getting the infatuation with HP and yes I can't believe I finish for maternity leave in just over 4 weeks - eeek! I read my pregnancy update info for 28 weeks and it said that this time in 12 weeks I am likely to be holding my baby instead of holding my tummy which was a bit of a reality check, can't believe how time is flying these last few weeks, xmas, new year then babies!!!

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:06

Argh - I'm not ready for a baby!!!! I don't actually have anything to do, but I'm just NOT READY!

I decided to read HP a few years ago (I think it was when book 3 came out, before the films had started) - I was reading all about kids camping out in bookshops for this thing, and I was intrigued to see just what had gotten children that excited about reading... was hooked after that . I do tend to read anything in sight though . The films I don't enjoy as much, but it has turned into tradition for all of us to go on opening night now

Heartburn not too bad here today - I'm on the 12 hour gavilast pills, which seem to be helping (checked with midwife before taking them).

Tabs · 21/11/2005 10:15

Wow flame - interesting that your m/w said that gavilast were ok, as my doc looked them up and said no to them!! Wish we got consistent info from the NHS!!

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 10:22

I didn't think you were allowed Gavilast either, doc has given me some stuff which isn't actually Gaviscon but is similar only stronger apparantly - still not convinced it works to be honest and just makes me want to gag - yuck!

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:28

I can't swallow the liquid ones or chew the chalky since last pg (makes me sick), and she said that they were fine... now all confused!!!

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 10:29

If she said they were fine Flame they must be, I shouldn't worry about it. I'm def gonna ask the midwife because I'd much rather take it in tablet form.

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:32

It could be that they only want them used as a last resort?

Tabs · 21/11/2005 10:32

Or maybe they're just not advised for first trimester (I asked last year as got indigestion from 5 weeks!), but are ok this late?

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:36

God knows - I'm at the stage that I take them once every few days, only when I really need to take em, and I'm not sure I'd stop now anyway

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:37

My doctor told me (last preg) that a lot of these things aren't so much bad for pregnant women, but that they can't ethically test them on pregnant women, so don't have any hard and fast yes or no answers

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 10:44

Yeah that makes sense I guess. I have been really bad recently, I have eatedn a fair amount of pate on toast lately and I never pay any attention to the pasteurised egg rule anymore I was good in the first couple of trimesters but just seemed to have lapsed big time. Oh well, mum said she ate anything when she was pg with me so if they could do it 25 years ago then why not now?

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 10:45

Join me in my little pate club!!!

Tabs · 21/11/2005 10:54

No stop it - I LOVE pate, but I won't eat it, I won't eat it!!!!

TheOriginalTicTac · 21/11/2005 10:57

I am having pate at Christmas...I don't care!!
I wouldn't worry about the tablets...that 12 year old doctor I saw the other week said paracetamol where not advised...whatever. When he got the grown up doctor to confirm he then said the same as your doc flame...it is not that this stuff is not safe...they just can't stamp it to say it is because they can't test it!

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 11:01

at your 12 year old doc.

YeahBut · 21/11/2005 11:34

Gaviscon liquid is fine and so is paracetamol. When I was in Australia, they were far more relaxed about meds in pregnancy - I was given a sleeping tablet the night before my induction and panadeine forte (max strength paracetamol and coedeine) for some other niggle by my obstetrician during the pregnancy. Dd2 shows no sign of any ill effects! Am getting all nostalgic for my Aussie birth (bar the c-section) now that we are getting closer to b-day. I knew I wasn't in the NHS anymore when I was given my leather bound menu and wine list and shown the mini-bar in my hospital room. They even had a wonderful service where they made a lovely romantic 3-course meal for new parents a couple of days after the birth while the baby would be taken to the nursery to be looked after by the midwives so that you could relax and eat in peace. I can pretty much guarantee that this won't happen in Holland!

Chloe55 · 21/11/2005 12:12

Ahhh that sounds wonderful YeahBut. I must admit I have become accustomed to Bupa (private medical) service for the few times I have had to stay in hospital as I get it paid for through work. I am not really looking forward to 'slumming it' (I am of course only joking when ref to slumming it before I offend anyone ) Your service in Oz sounds like 5* treatment!

flamesparrow · 21/11/2005 12:13

I'm gonna tell DH that he has to cook me a 3 course meal after baby is born!

Jasnem · 21/11/2005 12:25

That sounds great YeahBut, we're all jelous now. I still intend to be out of hospital within a few hours this time, so my DP can do the cooking, too

ixel · 21/11/2005 13:05

Hello all. Just checking in again, but there's so much to read! Stop talking while i'm not on here!
I'm totally knackered after ds's birthday weekend. Spent Friday evening looking for my Mum, who was missing after trying to get across North London on her own by bus. Turns out she got the right buses, but there were big delays and she doesn't know how to use her mobile, and cant understand why the answerphone doesn't converse with her when she gets through to it Poor ds was freezing, wandering around bus stops in the dark!!! Then we were preparing food till about 11pm, and carried on the next morning.... and hardly anyone ate anything, so we had tons of leftovers!
Apart from that, it was a great party, and ds is happy with his million new toys.

Me and new baby are suffering now though... no daytime nap for 3 days, have an unexplained bruise under my belly button where I must have walked into something, and a huge scratch where I stabbed myself with my only long fingernail!!!

And is it possible to gain a couple of inches overnight, or has my bra shrunk in the wash?! I know I've had a lot of choc this weekend...

teuch · 21/11/2005 13:11

hullo all - not been about for a few days as have had yucky sickness and diarrhea but back at work today (wahey! not...)

I don't mind taking the gaviscon liquid which I get prescribed but I found another (albeit interim) solution...refresher sweeties (the fizzy ones). I was dubious at first but I carry them in my bag and they definitely fend off heartburn for long enought for me to get to my jumbo bottle of gaviscon! You need 2-3 though...

Frizbe · 21/11/2005 15:13

Thanks for the tip teuch, my heartburn is just starting to kick in!
Ixel glad your ds had a good birthday, even with a 'lost' granny!
Yeahbut, wow what a service! remind me to emigrate!
Tic tac argh re your mates, but girls, fuyyfj, FS,tic tac again and Jasnem, glad I'm not the only one who woke up and had a panic today! and I'm about the last one of us due!!
I got my Boots vouchers through this am, and went out and got my nappies (complete with free wipes and box) Free change bag, which is whoopppppeee bigger than the last one, so glad they've made them bigger! nice to see the free shampoo as well, last time we had free rattles, but they recalled them due to a fault
got the Avent free stuff too! then thought stuff it and brought 1 x disposable knickers, 1 x maternity pads, 1 x Always Ultra Pads, not that I need them all yet, but having just read Tic tac's post, argh! Guess I'm starting to nest....
