Gosh we are quiet on here for a friday afternoon!

I'm still bored by the way!

TheOriginalTicTac · 18/11/2005 14:49

Hi,
Great news on your GTT and Iron results Tabs.
Chloe - LOL at DH...he is a cheeky bugger!

I have not long been back from my GTT at the hospital. I have some great news though...I was really good with the needles and a wonderful woman from pathology came up especially to do my bloods on both occasions because of my vein issues and she was in and out without any problems!!! Restored my faith...for now anyway!
I was even offered tea and toast!

I read about the prem baby, that woman is amazing to get online and post all the info, I think I would be too wrapped up in what was going on!

Chloe55 · 18/11/2005 14:56

Fantastic TicTac, I know from previous posts how worked up you get when the words 'taking blood' are mentioned. Soz Tabs, forgot to say pleased your results came back fine.

Helen38 · 18/11/2005 15:00

So, still got three boys in the house but is quiet
sent them out to run around then gave them hot choccy and they are watching thunderbirds, it's lovely!
I trying not to sit on a comfy chair or will fall asleep, it's this time of day that gets me the most, feeling very sleepy.

TheOriginalTicTac · 18/11/2005 15:01

Chloe - you would think I was about 6 years old not 29 but I was very proud of myself! you know how petrified I am at needles!!

Phew...might even get interested in the idea of giving birth now...well, not "now" but you know what I mean!

While I was at the hospital there was a woman in to have a trace monitoring, she had it done and the results where good but there was a slight problem. The nurse was very matter of fact in telling the woman that she might wantt o get used to the idea of giving birth today as they will prob induce her this afternoon...well I pooped my pants on this womans behalf! Turns out she is due next week anyway so wouldn't be a problem. I just couldn't imagine popping in for some tests and then being told...your having your baby today!!!

Tabs · 18/11/2005 15:01

Excellent news TicTac - hope you said yes to tea and toast!! Did they say when you'd get your results back?

Finally done the work I had to do today, just in time for the in-laws who are due round in about 15 mins - it's all go round here!!

Helen38 · 18/11/2005 15:03

So tictac do you have reluctant blood too? mine doesn't like coming out of me, mw took one look at my arm and decided to send me to the hospital to have it done....so I went there and scared an NVQ student

TheOriginalTicTac · 18/11/2005 15:10

Tabs - no longer than 1 week!

Helen - I have invisible veins and a fear of needles...the 2 kind of don't go so well together

Booking in bloods took several attempts from different people. The last 2 attempts where in pathology (consultant had failed previously too!)

Helen38 · 18/11/2005 15:22

I can see that woulnd't work so well.

My veins tend to hide then colapse when they get the needle in but I'd rather have blood taken than an injection, hate those, can't even watch on tv when people have them wimp that I am. You have my sympathy

TheOriginalTicTac · 18/11/2005 16:02

I thnk TicTac just had hicups!

Jasnem · 18/11/2005 16:22

Is everyone having a GTT? Is it a routine thing? I'm due for more blood tests next week, but not that one,it's never been mentioned.

Tic tac - I'm glad yours went well. Iwas a nurse prior to having kids, so got past any fear of needles a long time ago, but I know it can be pretty scary. Hopefully ou can give birth without any need to see another one.

Frizbe · 18/11/2005 17:00

Tic tac glad it went ok, and hurrah for you Tabs, no bother there then!

Helen, argh, what a pain, especially when you'd gotten them all dressed up!! glad they've not been too much trouble today for you tho

Jasnem, yuk, horrible day yest hon, hope today was better?

Chloe, sorry you've been so bored, nothing worse than work when you could be doing hundreds of better things, get counting those weeks!

Well not much happening here today, dd has been resisting her nap all day, and has just given up and fallen asleep on the sofa, just as I'm dishing up tea!! so will have to wake her in a sec, or I'll never get any sleep tonight! two year olds eh! Have a great weekend all.

Tabs · 18/11/2005 18:28

Just a quickie for those of you who read the story about the baby born 13 weeks early. There's an update here

Frizbe · 18/11/2005 18:30

Awww that's good to hear Tabs, thanks for posting that!

Jasnem · 18/11/2005 18:59

Thanks Tabs - I do like a bit of good news.

Another early night for me tonight. Just waiting for a blackcurrent cheesecake to defrost so i can eat it first. I will try not to eat it all tonight, but I can't promise.
My healthy eating phase is apparently over, I am now craving mars bars and other sweet stuff.

Morgan · 18/11/2005 21:58

Hi all, thanks for the update Tabs. My DS was five weeks early and i am completely paranoid about being early again and have flashbacks to the moment my waters broke in bed in the middle of the night. DS was ok when born - had bad jaundice and spent 10 days in scbu but you'd never know now - he is tall for his age.

DH is off to Dubai toimorrow and is coming back for Xmas when we all fly there on 27 December all being well with bump so i may be posting a lot more as i have five weeks with just me and ds!!

TheOriginalTicTac · 18/11/2005 22:02

Jasnem - GTT is not routine. It is run if your BMI is over 32, you have diabetes in the family or you have "other" symptoms that lead them to believe you may have gestational diabetes.

Tabs - thanks for the update...really good news!!

Nice to see you here again Morgan!

flamesparrow · 19/11/2005 00:42

I just seen Harry Potter

Made it through the whole film without peeing!!! Baby has shifted - I'm finally getting higher kicks, which my bladder is liking, but I have the heartburn instead now . I am worried about it being breach though, so will happily put up with heartburn if it means I have feet in the right place (Family history - mum, gran and aunt all had second child breech... I am much more like my dad though, so hoping I'll not have the same).

Great day today - played with my friend, and just relaxed.

xxxx

flamesparrow · 19/11/2005 00:57

How's this for scary... I'm due in 98 days - many of you are a lot less!!!

TheOriginalTicTac · 19/11/2005 09:14

Oh no Flame you just made me count....77 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jasnem · 19/11/2005 09:32

Thanks tic tac - I was beginning to worry that I was missing something as so many of you seem to have had it (GTT).

Flame - I was up in the night with bad heartburn last night - yhe first so far, but i did suffer badly before, so I think I need to get some gaviscon.

91 days for me. Thanks for that. I was just accepting that I'm in my 3rd trimester (27 weeks today) and now I'll be thinking in days!!!!!!

cuffyj1 · 19/11/2005 11:43

Oh my god i'm due in 73 days.

TheOriginalTicTac · 20/11/2005 10:13

A Sunday morning shock for you all. This is an email I have had this morning, Liz is one of the woman I know through the NCT coffee evenings we have. Liz was due just 2 days before me!

Hello there - can't remember which of you actually met her, but just passing on some rather surprising news......

Liz (the hospice nurse who has attended our last few bumps meetings) has given birth to a baby girl, Katy Rebecca (I think) on Monday 14th Nov. - her due date was 3rd Feb. so she was only 28 weeks!!!

Obviously Katy (not sure of spelling) is very small - born 2lb 8oz, currently 2lb 6oz - and is in Preston neo-natal unit. Liz is now at home, doubly expressing with an electric pump!

Liz woke up on the previous Thursday and realised her waters had broken so went into Preston for observation. Things progressed very gradually but she had a smooth labour. Katy breathed on her own from the start and cried straight away. She hasn't needed any oxygen as yet but is being fed by tube. Liz says Katy is doing very well at the moment but has been told that things can take a dip after a couple of weeks so she may need some breathing support later on.

There was no explanation for Liz' early labour - these things just happen. She seemed quite bright on the phone and said her nursing background has helped (she has nursed small babies in the past) but her husband is still in shock. She was planning to contact T-J about bras and try to get back to some sort of normality (what's that after you've had a baby??)

Jasnem · 20/11/2005 11:31

It's reassuring that both of the prem babies we've heard about seem to be doing so well, but can we all try very hard not to have ours just yet. It's just too scary!

flamesparrow · 20/11/2005 17:22

Sooo many early ones about!!! I have been having a good weekend, doing not a lot . Hope you're all ok, you're all very quiet.
