We have a girls name we thing (although you know me...it could change)...what do you all think of "Peyia" as in 'pay-a'

ixel · 13/11/2005 13:04

I think thats a great name for a girl! The only potential problem is having people ask how to spell it forever, but if your surname isn't too unusual, I think that'd be ok. Thre's so many lovely girls names, which is why I just know we'll have another boy!!!

thell · 13/11/2005 13:53

Just a quick hello!
DH and I have been back to one of our new houses for a second viewing, and have decided to make an offer tomorrow. Small and cosy house, and the back faces NE so it could get a bit dingy - but it's in a lovely area, and there are some 'alterations' we can make to improve things (ie we're already planning to knock out a wall!). Such a relief to know things will be ok before we move in with DH's parents. If it was more indefinite I think we'd both find the whole thing very depressing.
Phew!

My nipples are still well thankfully!! I concur with Tictac - part of me felt slightly jealous that I'm not getting any leaking yet, but really I'm delighted. It would make me feel very funny about nookie I think. Looks like I'd better do some research into breast pads and shells and all that. I'm really glad 3K brought it up - I'm rather confused too.

I did Jasnem's gender predictor and it correctly said girl. Quite an impressive hit rate so far! DH recently decided to do a little maths puzzle for fun (cos he's like that)and wrote a spreadsheet formula to subtract 266 days (standard period of gestation) from our due date to calculate our conception date. Of course I had already worked it out forwards by calculating day 14 of my cycle, but he obviously hadn't remembered. The answer is actually his birthday!! What makes it miraculous of course is that that was the day I ovulated, NOT the day we actually 'did the deed.' DH is delighted, and telling (nearly) everyone !!

Tabs · 13/11/2005 15:10

TicTac - finally getting round to telling you about our BF session at NCT. We watched a video which showed women breastfeeding, and how to position the baby correctly so that it could get the milk okay, and we could try and avoid mastitus. We then had time to ask any questions we wanted, and then each had a baby sized doll to have a go at positioning for ourselves! I'd imagine that yours will be very similar since the video is no doubt a standard NCT one. I found it quite interesting to see how big the boobs of the ladies doing the demo were - they were obviously quite a bit bigger than they normally had, and it made me realise that there's probably no avoiding my bazookas becoming even more enormous too!!

You also asked about my scan. It was great. The sonographer was quite disappointed with it, but to us it was still wonderful! She was disappointed for 2 reasons: 1. because Chip wouldn't face us except for a couple of seconds near the end when she then put her hands in the way! 2. Because she couldn't get such a clear image as she often does. This could have been because the amniotic fluid was thicker (apparently it varies and doesn't matter for anything other than scans!), or because I had too much fat in the way! (She wouldn't actually say this, but when pressed as to whether it could be, her response suggested yes although she didn't want to offend me by saying so!). We have the whole thing on DVD, and some hard copy photos plus a disc with them on. I'll check out the disc later and perhaps put one of the pics onto member profiles.

I dreamt about calling a child "Tudor" the other night!! It wasn't my baby, I knew that, just that I was meeting a newborn who'd been named Tudor!

We are still complete blank with names, which is kinda what I wanted anyway, but it is slightly worrying!!!

Jasnem · 13/11/2005 18:59

evening everyone,
I'm planning on an early night- just have to stay up long enough to put the kids tobed.

Thell - hope it goes well with the new house tomorrow. It would be great for you to be able to tell that old bag where to put her place!
DD1 was conceived on my birthday, and I've always known, but didn't tell anyone. I don't think even DP realised.

Tic tac - I like Peiya, it sounds really familiar to me but I don't know where from.

Tabs - we tried out a few names after DD2 was born - she was Louise for 4 days in hospital, then we decided we didn't like ti after all. It took over a month to come up with the most commom girls name in the country ( not that we looked at lists, so we didn't know that till later)
I'd like to meet up - the idea of a group of us all 7 months pregnant really appeals to me.

Jasnem · 13/11/2005 19:01

sorry tic tac - spelling your daughters name wrong already.

popmum · 13/11/2005 20:04

jasnem, yes come under Harlow - and am with priory midwvives which you probably are too! How weird. Am there next week. Had no. 1 there and was pleased - were your other 2 born there too?
Tabs - let me know re a meet, may be able to come - need hubby to be back from work in time to babysit though which is proving tough these days!

Frizbe · 13/11/2005 20:29

Hi all

JuA thanks for asking dd is now fine, very bad nights sleep with her poorly arm, but by the end of saturday she was using it normally again, hasn't tried any swinging since tho!!

Ixel, grr at the hospital tour, they should still have show'd you guys round.....as for mothercare I have no experience, but I'd get back on the phone and give them some grief, until they can become slightly more helpful.

Tabs congrats on the girl!!

Oh and the gender predictor correctly predicted dd as a girl, and bump as one too, which if the sonographer has it right is correct too!

3k · 13/11/2005 22:50

Hi All,

Frizbe - glad your DD is ok, my nephew pops his elbow out every so often and has to have it popped in again at the hospital - apparantly once they have done it, it can happen again but hopefully you will be ok.

Tabs - congrats on the little girlie, another one!! Us mums with boys are definately in the minority!!

Had a good and bad weekend, we went to the fireworks party last night and one girl wouldnt leave me alone - unzipped my coat and started talking to my belly!! I was very embarrassed for her aswell as me!! The everytime a firework went off she was patting my stomach asking if he was moving etc it was really starting to pee me off and I ended up snapping at her - she was drunk too which didnt help matters. Also this old boy started following me around and then asked me if I was scared. I told him I was a little and he progressed to tell me how "they say a womans body is designed for it but in my opinion it's not"!! He watched his wife give birth years ago and apparantly it was awlful. then his wife appeared and was just about to tell me some horrific birth story and I told her I didnt want to hear it and that I only wanted to hear about the nice stories. Honestly, I was close to tears within an hour - dont people realise that even though you are pregnant you have feelings too and are actually a person and not just a baby carrier!! This particular woman asked me if I knew what I was having, when I said it was a boy she then said "Oh why did you find out - didnt you want a nice surprise" ARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH Came home thankful for some peace and quiet.

Today we have painted the nursery and it is looking great, had a few pregnancy comments from some friends and family earlier and I walked out of the room as so peed off with that being the only thing people want to talk about!! Came home and had a cry on DH and he made me feel better. I then spent some time with him in the nursery and cheered up lots. We have even painted some hat boxes to match so that we can store bits in them - going to be a while before it is finished in there but I can see progress!!!

Anyway, off to bed now as absolutely knackered, just wanted to get off my chest about nasty comments and to catch up with you all.

Night night zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Chloe55 · 14/11/2005 09:31

Congratulations on the girl Tabs! The predictor thing correctly said I was having a boy too, weird.

Thell, so glad to see the house situation is moving along, what a stressful thing to be happenening at this point in your life!

TicTac, that name is beautiful but I agree it will always keep getting spelt wrong but then so do both my first and surname and I can't say it bothers me loads. It's actually quite funny to hear people try and pronounce my surname!

Sorry to hear about your dd Frizbe, that must have been quite traumatic for both you and her and A&E on Friday night, I shudder at the thought!

Ixel - never heard of Tudor before, I like Heath.

3k - sounds like a fun night you had! I must admit I hate random pissed people talking to the belly, I think it's more embarrassing for them though! I have a friend who constantly keeps reminding me that labour is holds back just enough pain to stop you from passing out but gives just as much to make you believe you are dying. Of course I always thank her for her helpful comments!!!

TheOriginalTicTac · 14/11/2005 09:53

Morning all,

Thanks for the name feedback! I totally agree with name spelling but I have very different name myself and have never once had anyone spelt it right first time or not asked me how to spell so I guess I am not bothered about that...kind of cute to be different but not in a chav way.

I can't remember who said it was familiar but this might help...Peyia (or Pegia in Greek) is actually a small village in Paphos, Cyprus
I must have read it on a Greek name list somewhere but have no idea where and nor can I find it again!!

The twist in the tale is that we have a house in Pegia, does that change your view on the name?

Thanks for NCT BF update Tabs! Not sure how comfortable I will be playing with a doll and breast area with a bunch of strangers but hey ho...I'll give it a go

Tabs · 14/11/2005 09:59

Don't worry TicTac - you get to keep your clothes on!!

Tabs · 14/11/2005 10:18

You can see pic from my scan here if you want to.

Chloe55 · 14/11/2005 10:20

Forgot to say I had a lovely weekend away in the Yorkshire Dales with some friends and my dog this weekend. I don't think I have laughed so much in ages so was lovely. The time I laughed the most though was when DH (still drunk proberly) gave the dog a quick walk one morning at 7am around the woods near the lodge and then woke me (and the rest of the lodge) by shouting my name from outside to come and help him. I went down, thinking maybe the dog had a bad bought of diarrhoea or something and needed cleaning up before he came back in but when I got downstairs I was faced with a dh covered from head to toe in mud and brambles complaining he had cut his hands and head open! I got him indoors and washed him up, finding the odd nick and graze on his hands, head was fine, he proceeded to tell me how he had slipped into holly bushes and it was all very traumatic for him - how am I going to cope with 2 little boys come February!!!

teuch · 14/11/2005 10:30

hullo! hope you are all doin ok (well, for a monday anyway!).

Gender predictor says girl for me too...yet I have been having distinctly 'boy' feelings! My sister's phsycic medium (!!) says it is a girl and apparently she knows everything

I have been getting kicked to bits downwards again - quite uncomfortable - so goodness only knows what position baby has to be in for that!

Phew - can't believe I'm into week 30 already...

Chloe55 · 14/11/2005 10:34

Gosh week 30 Teuch - can't believe I'm only 3 weeks off that but when you say it it all seems so close and real!

3k · 14/11/2005 10:34

LOL Chloe - I can just imagine your DH covered in mud and scratches!!!

Oh and your lovely best friend was nice to point out that labour was like dying!!! Why do people like to do that? I think it is cruel - we will sail through labour eh!

Was late for work again today - really cant be bothered anymore - he is in and in a strange mood too. 27 days and I'll be free of all that - YAY!!!!

Blooming cold today isnt it?!!!!!

thell · 14/11/2005 10:37

LOL chloe - hope you're well stocked up with savlon!!

Tabs, I did wonder about the clothes thing at your bf workshop...! What an amazing scan. Lovely! I'm v jealous.
And wow at getting to 28 - 30 wks guys. I'm 25wks tomorrow, which feels weird. Have been trying to get my head round the idea that our beanie is now 'viable.'

We made an offer on the house we like this morning - just waiting for the reply now. Would LOVE to be in before Christmas. We are dying to paint the nursery. It's actually fine as it is, but even my DIY-allergic DH has been imaging it with cute murals on the walls.

thell · 14/11/2005 10:46

By the way, in the interests of having a social life I'd be interested in a meet up too. If you have it somewhere accessible from London by train (and not too late in the evening)I'd be able to make the trip.

(Clearly I have no shame about gatecrashing other people's lives!! )

Tabs · 14/11/2005 10:56

Thell you'd be more than welcome! And quite welcome to stop overnight at mine if that helps.

thell · 14/11/2005 11:20

Thanks Tabs - you're really kind!
Might be a good idea to plan some time away from the in-laws, to prevent cabin fever setting in.

BTW - counter-offer on the house was accepted!! Now all we have to do is light a rocket up the bums of the solicitors to get them moving ASAP!

Jasnem · 14/11/2005 14:15

I'm feeling good today as I've just discovered that my old winter coat still does up. I had't even bothered trying it but DD1 got it out yesterday. I might get a few more weeks out of it and then I'll be back in my raincoat.

popmum - yes I'm with priory team too. I had both of mine at PAH and they were great when I had complications with DD2.

3k - being pregnant appears to attract weirdos, does't it?

Chloe - it sounds like DH is going to be more work than a new baby. At least they'll be able to play together as they grow up

tabs - are you offering to organise then? I need notice to arrange child care, but am free every night and weekend between now and Christmas except one. I really need to get a life.

TheOriginalTicTac · 14/11/2005 14:51

Hi all,

Chloe - LOL at your DH..lots of TCP in the cupboards I think!

Tabs - Scan picture is lovely! Also, if you let me know about your meet up date I will come (well if invited that is!!) if I am working down there!

Also, just come back from my ante natal. I feel like I have got loads sorted out today. Midwife has recommended that the consultant midwife takes all my care on FT so that I don't have to deal with the other consultants again (old news for those who where not on previous threads but shall I say, they don't even know how to use a doppler!). Plus - she has sorted out my GTT for Friday so that the community person doesn't try and take bloods and that someone comes up from pathology to do it, and she didn't do full bloods today, said she would get pathology to do them on the same day so there are no more needles. AND...to top it all off, she say baby is measuring 1 week ahead of due date which fits in perfectly with my dates, I told her I didn't think it could be due on the 11th Feb, she agreed, said it would be impossible and baby is measuring 29 weeks anyway so it looks like original date of 5th Feb was right!!!!!

2 bits of BOO news though - My blood preassure is up although wee totally clear so she said she will check me again in a couple of weeks. She also says she is certain I have SPD. I had not added to the chats online about it because I didn't think the pain I had really fell in line with some of you other ladies..as in, you all seem so much worse! But when I explained where the pain was and the kind of pain she said it was SPD...oh well, looks like I have a loose plevis for now!
