Grin Grin At least I know how to BF frogs now. Genius!

I think I'll at least try at the beginning, just see how it goes. I'm very firmly of the belief that whatever works for me & makes me happy will also make Bug happy. A stressed & unhappy Loz doesn't bode well Grin

Thanks for being so kind about my smooth PG - I really don't mean to sound so smug, I totally realise & thank Jebus how damned lucky I've been. So far at least............ of course there's still a few weeks for things to go belly up. And I've a substantial belly Grin

Scorpette · 06/04/2011 15:20

It's not being smug at all. I love hearing about others feeling fab and don't want anyone to feel crappy. I did have rubbish health before getting pg, so was probably naive thinking I wouldn't get ill. Is all temporary and totally worth it for The Lad anyway. I get a bit doom and gloom about me own probs at times so reading about others feeling good really cheers me up.

You are 100% right about the feeding issue - and indeed, all parenting issues. A happy mum = happy baby. It doesn't matter what others think (unless happy mum = putting crushed-up temazepam in a baby's feed to make it sleep all day, etc.).

I realise I'm posting a lot today - my stir-crazy boredom isn't showing, is it? Wink

rocketleaf · 06/04/2011 16:49

I am so sorry to hear your SPD is getting worse!! I think it does make sense to consider all options. I know how you feel about a cs as am a bit leery of them too but I really do think that an elective would make much more sense than an emcs because you are not coping with the pain of labour. I hope you can get some chiro, it does sound like it could make the last few weeks a bit more bearable even if you still go for the emcs. As we keep saying eyes on the prize, and all that!

lady sorry to hear people are taking the piss offerwise, hope they come to their senses and if not I am sure one of the many other people who viewed will make an offer. Seems it just takes a bit longer these days as people are more picky (have to say i blame property programs for giving people ridiculous expectations) Not really what you want to hear when you are diffed but there you go!

My back is feeling ok thanks my lovelies! Still a bit sore sometimes but easily copable. loz I am so happy to hear yours has been holding up well considering the probs you had in the past, its great news and not 'smug' at all, silly thing.

Chiro cancelled today but I am going on Sunday instead. I have been out today, took my friends and their baby to the Childrens Hospital to check out his hips as they dont have a car and its a ball ache to get to on the bus, fun day out!! :o Then we went for a wander in the park. So I have walked quite a bit and it's feeling good. Had a nasty moment yesterday when it had seized up but I had been lying funny so was my own fault. It would seem I have the exact opposite of SPD, for me I need to keep moving and everything then seems to work ok. It was really nice as they have totally got the hang of the Kari Me sling we bought them. Dad even wore it today and their littlun looked so cute in it and loves it, I am now really excited to try out ours!! We also got him modelling some of my nappies as I wanted to check out how easy they were to put on a real baby, he was a dream :o AND work on the inside of the house is finished so I finally can have a lie in tomorrow YEY!!! Today was a good day Wink

Have been thinking of familymeds a lot today especially as been in the hospital. I hope EA is going from strength to strength and you are getting to spend some quality time together.

rocketleaf · 06/04/2011 16:50

Sorry that was meant to be 'till go for the elcs' not emcs!!!

Medee · 06/04/2011 17:02

I'm so sorry to hear about the SPD woes, am very grateful I didn't get it. Hope you get the rest, and the right labour options, Scorps.

EA has had another good day, but a tiring one for Mummy. I was awoken by a call from the hospital at 6.00 to say she was hungry, so hot footed it round. I finally left about half an hour ago! (I appreciate it's a round the clock operation caring for a newborn, but that would at least be in my own home.) She fed and fed and fed all morning; I had gallantly told MrM to stay in bed until 2 hours of feeding later she was still going, I had had no breakfast and the hospital canteen still wasn't open! So he was duly summoned. We then got given one of the parents rooms, and she was set free from the ward. So I got a sleep, and she slept in her cot (now unheated) next to me. Blood sugar has broken the 4 mark and we finally got her temp to 37 degrees. She fed all afternoon too until it was time to return her to the ward for her antibiotics. She's to get another 2 days of antibiotics; 24-48 hours of obs thereafter, and then all being well, home!

I've been pleasantly surprised by the BF, especially after all that has happened, albeit she still needs a nipple shield to help get her latch. Definitely worth a try anyway, and if it doesn't work, there is no shame. I'm still expecting to need a formula top-up soon. Or a dummy. Not sure which.

OP posts:
Medee · 06/04/2011 17:05

ooh, totally forgot the poonami. That appeared while waiting for MrM to arrive - orange poo all the way up her back, even some on her shoulder. So, she also got her first bath, which she did not like one bit.

OP posts:
LadyGoneGaga · 06/04/2011 17:10

Sounds like she's doing brilliantly, Meds. Must be blooming tiring having to keep going to the hospital. Like you say, newborns are tiring at best of times but at least it is normally with your home comforts around you. But hopefully all home early next week.

Sounds like a busy day today, Rocket! Funnily enough my chiro has advised me to keep walking to build up the strength in my hip muscles. But prob cos mine is pretty mild so far. We will see how it goes...

Scorpette · 06/04/2011 17:27

Medee, that sounds like brilliant news Grin She sounds stronger and stronger every time you post! It must indeed be soooo tiring to have to do the New Mum Slog at hossie and going back and forth too, instead of at home but it sounds like you've not got long to go now until you'll be there. Already getting a nap in a normal cot? Sounds brilliant! As does her mega-morning feed and, as I've never witnessed one, her poonami too (Famous Last Words!). So glad she's going from strength to strength

And cheers for your kind words. The hossie have been great so far, so I'm hoping they'll be really open to working out the best birth solution for my needs.

Muser · 06/04/2011 17:34

Glad she's doing so well Medee, the poonami must be a good sign!

Lozzles once I got my latch sorted breastfeeding has been great. It can be tiring, but it's so easy now. No preparations, just whap out a boob and go. And it's an instant calmer when they're shouting the place down. KateBob went insane at her 6 week check today, nothing would soothe her. Quick feed and I got a quiet baby to take home.

But in the end you need to do what's best for you. It works well for me but it might not for you.

AlpinePony · 06/04/2011 17:41

Medee Fantastic news!

Medee · 06/04/2011 17:49

Muse - your wee one was a constant feeder to begin with, wasn't she? Did you just go with it, or try to satisfy/ comfort her in other ways?

OP posts:
Muser · 06/04/2011 18:13

She's still a constant feeder! Right at the start I just went with it. Now I try and distract her if I think she's tired rather than hungry. So taking her out in the pram or popping her in the sling. If she is tired she'll fall asleep quickly, if she's hungry she won't and I feed her.

I have tried a dummy but it doesn't work very well. And a lot of the time it's just easier to give her a feed. I may well be making a rod for my own back. But I figure she's too young to be left to cry.

Ocarina · 06/04/2011 18:22

Hooray for a hungry EA, that's got to be a good sign, along with blood sugar and temp and all of that. You must be knackered Medee, hope you're managing to get some rest in this extra hard work due to not being at home newborn phase.

Scorps, I had a random thought earlier - ages ago you were talking about possible career options for the future and whether you could do some planning for them while waiting for The Lad to put in an appearance. Just wondering whether you're getting anywhere with that, particularly while you're immobilised by SPD etc. Take this as a gentle prod rather than a nag, and hopefully there's things you can be doing to take your mind of the insane boredom! Or take this as an opportunity to get writing, perhaps? Like I say, I'm not trying to nag but I know with me it can take someone prodding me to get me off my arse and doing something useful rather than just procrastinating.

rocketleaf · 06/04/2011 18:41

Ah medee That wonderful news, so promising!! Hard work for you having to be in hossie all the time but fingers crossed you will all be home together very very soon. I hope you are able to recoup some rest tonight and get a bit of pampering from MrM in return for the lie in. Wink

rocketleaf · 06/04/2011 18:45

Oh and meant to say to loz before that last night i couldn't lean forward at all, it felt like either a head or some feet were wedged up under my ribs, REALLY odd feeling and took me a while to figure out that was what it was!

Truffkin · 06/04/2011 19:47

That's brilliant news Meds and sounds like she'll be home soon and you can be tired in your own home as you say Grin The hospital sound like they've been fantastic too and it's great to hear such positive stories.

GeeGee I hope you get an improved offer right back atcha. I think like others have said, people are minded to be more cheeky at the moment so they are probs just trying it on.

Rocket vee cute having your own baby nappy model to try them out on! My latest neice or nephew will be arriving 4 months before our padawan so I hope to get as much hands on practice in as I can manage.

Also, just for Scorpington I present [http://www.jedi-robe.com/152,1574,star_wars_costumes_baby.Star_Wars_Yoda_Baby_Costume.html this bad boy]]

Well, I've only been sick once today, praise be to Goddess Lyra (hallowed be her name) and I fancy a burger! Am sending TGB out to the GBK round the corner to hunt me one down. Yum bloody yum! I know this might be one day only but am grabbing it wit both hands. I wonder if it's the lovely summer weather making it feel like BBQ season already?

Truffkin · 06/04/2011 19:48

or even this one doh!

LadyGoneGaga · 06/04/2011 20:01

Baby Darth Vader is ace!

PerfectDromedary · 06/04/2011 20:11

Meds I'm so delighted to hear that EA is doing brilliantly - what a clever baby she is! And you are being immensely wonderful. She is a lucky child to have such a brilliant Mummy and Daddy.

Planned c-sections are not that bad a thing. Not really how I would have chosen to give birth, but my recovery has been really easy. The one thing I would say is that I think I struggled more to establish breastfeeding because of the c-sec: partially just because I refused to admit that I was knackered after major abdominal surgery and so did far too much (although it was the only way to get out of hospital as quickly as I wanted too) and partially because the cannula made holding the baby a bit tricky.

rocketleaf · 06/04/2011 20:13

Eeeep, I already have a Leia costume, I now needed a LeiaMiniMe too :o

Truffs beware the burger, I got a bit over ambitious once during the early days and had a BK as I really fancied MEAT. It was the one time I was actually sick (apart from just feeling like death) Mind you GBK IS a better class of burger so you might be reet. It is already BBQ season in the Leaf house, just invited BF and hubbie round for one on Sat. Apparently long range forecasts for the summer say that the NW is gong to have the best of it, lets hope they are right.

Casserole · 06/04/2011 20:25

Meds so very very pleased to read your updates. Can't believe how well she's doing, what a clever girl x

StiffyByng · 06/04/2011 20:41

Medee, that is fantastic news. She sounds such a gorgeous little girl.

Scorpette, the SPD sounds horrible. Really interesting advice from others too. I really empathise with the desire for a ELCS but I'm lucky in that I don't have pain on separating my legs and can find some semi-comfortable birthing positions. I've also read that some women feel a huge relief in the pain once waters break. But I think if that's what you're thinking about, you really should go and shout at a consultant. Well, whine and cry at least. And I'm getting so angry about the need for SPD sufferers to pay their own money for help, but if you possibly can, it's worth it. I can't imagine the state I'd be in without the chiro, and I'm on crutches as it is. After today's session, I was actually without pain for a few hours, even though I still couldn't walk! Also, you can take codeine as well as paracetamol. The doctor at the hospital had no issue prescribing it to me.

CurlyCasper · 06/04/2011 20:41

medee I've just caught your posts and have a big grin on my face! Sounds like she's getting better and stronger quickly - wonderful! I think we'll all be doing a dance and raising a glass when you get to take her back home.

sorry to hear of the SPD shittyness. scorps I hope you get the support to have the right birth for you. As you know I had SPD too (as well as my other joint issues) and while my birth was pretty "normal" in the end (36 week delivery and various scares aside), the pressure on my pelvis put an end to my hope of labouring/delivering standing up/on knees or any other AB position. BUT I very much believe that a waterbirth would have made a huge difference there. I don't say any of this to scare anyone. Just that I agree with the need to think about it now and be realistic about what you think your body will handle. I was too naive and I think I will have to deal with some issues in that area should I ever be lucky enough to have a second. Good luck with getting the right plan for you. And I hope you get some of the late pregnancy relief poo describes.

Congrats to newcomer kat and smelly brie to one and all.

macaroonmum · 06/04/2011 20:48

Meds fantastic news! sounds like such a fighter that one! To be honest the first 2 months are pretty much just about feeding although the first weeks seem to run into one long feeding frenzy - it DOES get much better and things settle down (my first would feed every 2 hours on the dot. Up to 5 months old Smile - perfectly manageable once I knew that of course!)
