Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cep · 11/04/2011 15:07

I have my mw appt tomorrow am hoping she'll use the doppler on me, will be relieved till 12 week scan if i can hear the hb. however if we can't will be even worse. so am of mixed minds.

SnoozleDoozle · 11/04/2011 15:17

dee and ochaye , I'm so sorry.

rightontime · 11/04/2011 15:20

Sorry to hear you news ochaye and dee. This does seem to be an unlucky thread.

I have finally got a date for my 12 weeks scan but am really worried about it. Really hoping its not going to be a MMC. No reason it should be but I just don't feel very positive. Luckily DH has booked that week off work so he will be able to hand hold. Worrying about the nuchal test too even though I am only 24. Just can't shake my negative feelings this time round. Sad

Cep Really hope that you hear a HB

dirgeinvegas · 11/04/2011 15:32

Oh dee sorry, I think we xposts this morning. Sorry if mine sounded really insensitive. You know your body best xxx

goldmaple · 11/04/2011 15:40

cep FX that you hear the HB!!

rightontime Try not to worry, I know its hard. I am 27 and a little bit worried about the nuchal scan too, but I guess I'd rather know then not know... I think its just the hormones that make us feel upset and negative.

Feel horrible today! Guess its due after about 7 days of feeling ok but I cannot keep anything down... Really worried about lack of eating well for baby esp if this continues into the 2nd trimester

Woodifer · 11/04/2011 15:45

oh ochaye and dee :(

i'm 10 weeks today

i was just going to periodically prompt you like this

  • do 30 kegels now!
dirgeinvegas · 11/04/2011 16:29

Goldmaple I'm sorry you're feeling so crap. I hardly ate anything in the first trimester with DD and went down to 7.5 stone but she was fine, born a healthy weight. I think your body takes from you to give to the baby.

I haven't kept up with the thread (it doesn't bookmark for me for some reason). Have you seen your MW about it? Have you got hyperemesis?

BuffyFan · 11/04/2011 16:48

dee belatedly, so sorry :(

Saw MW today, and she didn't tell me I'm delusional, and she didn't say "hmm, you're not throwing up every ten mins, you can't possibly be pg". So that's encouraging. (sorry to goldmaple and others feeling the ms badly...).

Slightly bemused that GP and MW have both just taken it on faith that I'm not making it up!

Just like you rightontime my fear is of a mmc, even if I've no reasons to suspect that.

Dating and nuchal both done in the same scan here. It's mid afternoon on the day we're supposed to have come back off holiday, and I'm tempted just to book an extra day off work and be done with it.

WishYouWereMine · 11/04/2011 17:00

Hi everyone.. bit of a late arrival to the thread.

So sorry to hear about all of the early leavers :(.

I guess I'd best introduce myself.

I'm 22, found out I was pregnant on Saturday morning. I'm all alone, in France, while my family and OH are back in the UK. My last period was at the end of January, but I'm very irregular so hadn't even considered being pregnant until I realised it was a bit strange to be vomiting every day for 4 weeks! Although it's awful being so sick, everytime is like a reassurance that everything's OK. This is my first baby/pregnancy, and it was a big surprise, so I'm not feeling that prepared/knowledgable about anything.

No idea what stage I'm at, although all of the due date calculators say November.. hence me being here! I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow, so hopefully will be having bloods and a scan too, so I should know everything tomorrow. Am a bit apprehensive, just want to hear that heartbeat! If everything is OK, I'm planning on coming home ASAP. I'm not eating properly here, and my job is not easy to manage with the MS.

MooseyMoo · 11/04/2011 17:14

cep I thought hearing the heartbeat is quite tricky until 15/16 weeks pregnant? In my pregnancy blue folder (which lists all appointments and what happens at which) checking the fetal heart is at 16 weeks. Only mentioning this as I remember my MW saying it's like finding a needle in a haystack (er...nothing to do with my wibbly belly of course... Hmm).

Welcome Wish!

Anyone have any suggestions for birthday cake for DD? Planning on going to the zoo on her bday. I'm really excited about it even if DD has no idea where she is Grin

I think I'm 9 weeks 2 days but never sure about the days bit. My changeover day is Saturday so guessing this is right...

cep · 11/04/2011 17:29

moosey dr google says you should be able to start hearing hb on doppler around 10 weeks. it'll be easier to hear at 16 weeks, and she may not be able to detect it, but i'd rather try. She may say no yet.

Folicacid · 11/04/2011 17:49

I think I read somewhere that MWs are loathe to try to listen to HB until 16wks plus as earlier than that they often can't find a heartbeat and that causes undue stress and upset.

Welcome wish you were I read your post in chat, it's nice to have you over here. Keep us posted on how you get on with the 'wise woman', oh how i liked that.

Folicacid · 11/04/2011 17:50

Oh and moosey how about a monkey birthday cake? or another animal, sticking with the zoo theme?

dirgeinvegas · 11/04/2011 17:55

Quick update from me.

Welcome Wish. Being pg and alone in another country must be quite stressful, never mind the ms!

Have you told anyone? Can you keep your job but work from the UK? I hope my questions aren't adding to your stress. We're here when you want to talk.

Went to the midwife this afternoon. She was very anti-homebirth which I knew she would be but not to the extent she was. Anyway, she took blood and a history and said see you at 20 weeks. I have my 12 week scan on Thursday and my ms seems to be getting better.

Breastfeeding still hard work but getting better. Er...can't think of anything else to update on. Thread moves so quickly it's hard to stay up to date but I will try to post more Smile

Collie2 · 11/04/2011 17:56

Caz i've just been reading you blog and it made me well up. I am so sorry for you loss. Bella is just beautiful and the blog is lovely dedication to her. I can't believe the comments you have had about pictures on fb, some people amaze me. My mum works with a lady who is carrying twins, she found out last week she has lost one of them. Shes 31weeks.

Welcome to wish

Ohh moosey i like folics suggestion of a monkey cake!!

Collie2 · 11/04/2011 17:57

dirge thats interesting about your mw, mine is overly pro-home birth. Whats her reasons for being anti?

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 11/04/2011 18:21

Evening ladies,

I just wanted some advice, havent had any bleeding at all so far, but had a wipe of light pink blood this morning and then darker brown this afternoon, both very little and nothing on the pad that I wore all day, but upsetting nonetheless. Am 10+2, would it be unreasonable to think that it might be the placenta implanting? If there is more tomorrow will have to phone and see what to do, but hoping it's just nothing, dont have any cramps or pain at the moment.

Staceroo · 11/04/2011 18:28

Feeling very sad for you Dee & Ochaye.

Can only pray that this is because greater things lay waiting around the corner for you both.

smilingcl · 11/04/2011 18:35

I'm really sorry Dee and Ochaye I hope a healthy baby takes a strong grip soon.

Dirge & Collie, when I saw the midwife last week she started to explain that I could have a homebirth and I interrupted and said I defo wanted to be in hospital and she said 'Oh thank goooood for that!'

She said homebirth's stress her out because if something were to go wrong there's not much she could do for the baby until the ambulance got there. It's not that things go wrong more often but that she doesn't feel as well equipped to deal with them if they do.

I visited my friends this weekend who have a two week old baby (who is gorgeous), the mummy is very slim and she's having to have an operation as her stomach muscles have stretched too far back and haven't recovered so now her organs have all fallen forward into the baby space. I really felt for her as she's having trouble sitting up and carrying heavy things etc. Is that common and if so is it fixable?

There's a lot of scary things you don't hear about until you start asking questions!

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/04/2011 18:44

Sorry to hear your sad news Dee and Ochaye Hope you are both managing to rest and be taken care of x x

dirge my MW was also very pro-homebirth!! Did she tell you why she was anti?? Would it be at all possible for you to see another MW??

cep it would definitely be worth asking re: HB as I know only 2yrs ago the MW I worked with (as a student nurse) regularly listened into HB at 10weeks, she was very good at finding it and always explained that it was difficult to find so if not heard just means that it is too early for the machine to pick it up!! At least if you ask she can only say no.

goldmaple I've spent quite a while feeling really bad and unable to keep anything down (has started to ease) but when I discussed with GP she said that baby will get what baby needs as that is the way the body works!! If you continue to be really bad though would definitely be worth mentioning to your MW.

Twojack FX crossed that you have no more.

As for me, :) that have been able to eat and keep things down since Fri - though still don't actually fancy eating much so having to force myself to eat!!
Went to my Nephews Christening yesterday and it was lovley, and able to see all my family :) glad that I had told them all about the pg as the dress that I had brought a few weeks ago (just after I found I was pg) really showed my bump!!

Was in a lot of discomfort yesterday evening :( think it was largely trapped wind but went on for a couple of hours and felt horrible, wasn't able to sit down for longer than 5minutes and so tired I really didn't want to stand!!!

Have an interview on Wednesday (for MW degree) and am really not looking forward to it, not going to mention pg as don't want it to affect my chances of getting on the course, but all my interview gear would show the bump.... umm shopping needed...

Poppet45 · 11/04/2011 19:11

Hi all and welcome newbies!

Twojacks, your bleeding sounds much like mine's been for the past month(!) now, I've had a scan and the bean was okay with a hb, and I was told that unless you get cramping, abdominal pains larger than just twinges from things stretching and moving, and heavier, and often bright red blood, you should try not to worry. Much easier said than done I know, but apparently 25-40 per cent of women get some bleeding during pregnancy. Still hope it stops for you though as it is nerve wracking.
cep I thought I was told that thing about midwifes not wanting to look for a hb til 16 weeks too. However it might have changed with better equipment.
Smilingc it sounds like your friend had diastasis rectis (sp?) where the abdominal muscles end up being pulled in two by the bump. I had it with DS (I was a size 10 and he was a 9lb 6ozer!) but noone asked me about it and after lots of complications with his birth it was kind of the last thing on my mind to ask about. You can do eercises to reduce it. Although obviously nothing is ever quite the same again!

dirgeinvegas · 11/04/2011 19:35

bumps and collie it's because I had a tear last time. She saidi might tear again (er, yes, so might a first time mum) so she said they want me to have an elcs. I had repair surgery following DDs birth and my colorectal surgeon is supportive of a vb. He pretty much said I'm going to be incontinent anyway so I'm not saving myself from anything and a cs is hardly a picnic is it?

I asked what a elcs is to prevent but she couldnt answer, she just said it was protocol. I could understand if it might help but it won't, it'll just mean I have the after effects of a cs to deal with. I told her I thought a 5% risk of a tear wasn't bad odds v a 100% guarantee of an incision in my abdomen.

There's no risk to baby and no serious risk to me.

Sorry for the rant, I just felt so unheard

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/04/2011 19:56

dirge that seems a bit drastic, an elcs due to a previous tear?? I would say that if you are not happy with having an elcs but your MW won't listen to you then ask to speak to someone else!! I can understand her reluctance with homebirth if you had a bad tear but elcs Hmm

With those who are having trouble with bleeding - I bleed every 3-4 weeks during my first pg (didn't find out I was pg until 24weeks - no symptoms and regular bleeding meant it didn't cross my mind!!) I had a healthy pg, from when I found out though continued to bleed every month until delivery!! Just thought I might mention it as it may settle you minds - try not to worry (HUGS)

alicat10 · 11/04/2011 20:08

Dirge if they want you to have ELCS then you should get to see a consultant and in my experience they tend to be more pro vaginal delivery as they want to keep CS numbers down - don't let it stress you - it is your right to change your mind in either direction right until the last moment. You can always get a diff MW (I ended up speaking with the head of midwifery services for my NHS trust with DD to ensure I got a v experienced MW who was going to support me with VBAC).

alicat10 · 11/04/2011 20:10

In a moment of madness (off work sick and home alone today as had no sleep due to extreme wind pain last night - thank goodness to you other ladies' experiences I knew what it was and managed not to panic (much)) I have ordered a doppler - am I nuts? Is it going to cause me more stress than reassurance? Has anyone used one in previous PG?
