Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mrs - personally I would skip the 1st section and read the 2nd as that has all the useful stuff in it. It is really encouraging. I am to read it again before I give birth as well. I also need to get Food of Love back off my friend as well. And I am going to re-read Politics of Breastfeeding as well. I am a glutton for punishment.
Have you ever read Call the Midwife? I have it, it is really good though some of the stories made me cry.
There was a lovely story about a Spanish mum who had lots of kids, her youngest was born premature and she stayed in bed for several weeks, nursing this tiny baby, hand expressing and feeding the baby with a teaspoon until she was strong enough to latch properly. Baby pulled through :) She didn't speak any English so her older children had to help the midwife by translating for her!

With all the maternity trousers falling down, could it be time for a retro return to dungarees? Grin

Thanks for suggestions re the tv remote - found it in the Tescos bags...wtf...I havent had those bags out for weeks!

79monica · 13/03/2011 18:29

If anyone is thinking of getting re-useable nappies, it's worth checking your council's website in case there is any financial help available. I just checked Sheffield's ( nurse I think that this is where you are too?) and it offers £10 contribution. Not much, but it all adds up.

CMH1stbaby · 13/03/2011 19:40

I am also in the baggy jeans brigade - bought a new pair from Gap maternity on Fri because I had a 30% off voucher but turns out they also fall down, same as my DP maternity and Next maternity ones! Have decided to give up and stop spending on them..

So am feeling a little nervous because I've just had a message saying my friend gave birth yesterday - she's exactly 10 weeks ahead of me, I'm 25 weeks+5 so she was 35 weeks+5. I only saw her on Fri and was chatting lots of baby stuff until about 5pm - I can't believe that 24 hours later the baby had arrived! They are both doing fine but for some reason the surprise of it all has made me feel really tearful and a little frightened. Am going to review my plans for the next couple of months because, for some reason, I had assumed the baby would be late but I am now having to rethink that possibility! As long as he doesn't arrive at 33 weeks because my brother's getting married and if my waters break at the wedding that might steal their thunder somewhat Grin

Sorry for the ramble, am just so surprised!!

NurseSunshine · 13/03/2011 19:43

Thanks for thinking of me 79 :) My mum kindly bought me mine from ebay (new not used lol).

NurseSunshine · 13/03/2011 19:46

x posts CMH congratulations to your friend. I can understand you being a bit shaken up (((hugs)))

Clarkiee · 13/03/2011 20:09

Good news that everything went well for your friend though CMH

Made DH watch the twin c-section on OBEM he agreed that it didn't look too bad (although he was pulling some funny faces Grin).

I'm knackered- had no where near enough sleep this weekend. Stayed over at a friends house last night for catch up with other friends, then had to get up early to go to my nieces christening (which was 2 hour drive). Had a nap mid party Grin.

Don't really feel like I've put on much weight generally (apart from my big bump) but I am getting a bit of a double chin! Sad plus my face looks very puffy today- was it lack of sleep, big italian meal, dehydration or general pregnancy fatness?

Mummynumber2 · 13/03/2011 22:24

What a surprise for your friend CMH, congratulations to her and glad her baby's doing well!

Clarkiee I'm sure that when your DH sees his own little girls being born the yuck factor will disappear.

Good news is I'm not going to get married in my mothercare jeans as I finally have a dress Smile.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/03/2011 22:52

CMH - one of my friends also gave birth at 35+5 weeks! She sent me a text describing a discharge and it sounded to me like she had had a show! So I advised to talk to her MW. 2 days later I got a call from her DH to say she had a baby boy Smile. Said boy is now a healthy, bouncing 2yo!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 13/03/2011 22:53

Mummy - yey for your dress, can we see it??

Jer79 · 14/03/2011 06:26

CMH How did you shop for Gap Maternity stuff? I've been trying to get some things but only their US website seems to have any Maternity clothes, the UK/EU is crap.

CMH1stbaby · 14/03/2011 09:51

good to hear your friend and her baby were ok kara - i guess when he wants to come out he will, and there'll be no stopping it!!

Jer - They stock it in store at the Oxford St branch so I had a browse in there. Still wasn't a massive selection but more than they had at my more local branch in Kingston (where it's in the Gapbaby store?!)

yay for the dress mummy!!

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 14/03/2011 10:29

Hello all.

Turns out the best thing about being unwell over the weekend was getting in a couple of full nights sleeps. Sure enough now that I'm all better I was awake at 4.45 this morning I did get back to sleep after not to long, but feel like a zombie now.

Good news on the dress MN2 Bet you look lovely Grin

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 14/03/2011 13:14

just eaten ANOTHER bag of mini eggs. I blame MN and this thread entirely Grin. Still, have also written another 1500 words of my thesis today so am feeling pretty virtuous! Might have to go and have a nap now to recover..

jasmine51 · 14/03/2011 17:38

Been painting all day, absolutely knackered, had bubbly bath and now sitting in dressing gown aching alot...no mini eggs in house..its a toss up between getting in car in dressing gown to go and get some or paying for some express online shopping service.

NurseSunshine · 14/03/2011 18:06

Come on mummy we want a pic of the dress!! So glad you got one :)

CMH wow 1500 words?! V good going, I would say you're entitled to as many bags of mini eggs as you can fit in for that! Don't suppose you fancy knocking out a couple of assignments for me do you? I've got writer's block/pregnant woman's lack of caring syndrome.

Supersunny All babies like steak. I think it's one of their 5 a day.

I've just had my first driving lesson since I failed my test 5 years ago. Really enjoyed it, I feel reasonably confident but just need practice to get my manouveres nice and smooth. Am going to pass my test before this baby is born if it blopdy kills me!

Oooh forgot to ask, where does your DH go cycling knackered? DP goes to Cannock Chase every weekend and leaves at 8am! What on earth possesses these boys to a) get up that early on a weekend b) get all sweaty and muddy and fall off their bikes on a regular basis and c) expend all that energy when they could be at the sainsbury's cafe tucking into a mega-brunch, like me? Fools!

DaisyFields · 14/03/2011 20:58

Oh bums, ignore that strange chunk of jargon, heaven only knows where that came from!

AlmightyCitrus · 14/03/2011 22:57

Oh hello! We're all still here then!

Hopefully I can be a bit more vocal now. I've finally got PC world Angry to replace my very new, very broken PC for a very new, un-broken one. No more hunching over a very small netbook! It should do my poor aching back a bit of good too. My big desk chair is much more comfortable.
Now for the mammoth task of re-installing everything.
sigh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one not sleeping. Can't sleep, can't get comfy...doesn't help that I normally sleep on my stomach, and that is pretty much out of the question now.
On a plus point, I must of lost quite a bit of weight, as my normal pre-pregnancy jeans still fit! My bump seems to be high up at the moment so I'm still in my normal gear. Grin

jbells · 15/03/2011 08:18

morning all

almighty im so jelous cant believe u r still in pre-pregnancy clothes mine are looong gone, im living in leggings and stretchy/floaty tops my wardrobe is now very boring :(

daisy there is no way u wud get my DP to voluntarily get out of bed at 8am on the weekend, b4 DD he wud happily laze in bed till 1pm which drove me nuts as i am a morning person and wud want to be up and out by 11 at the latest

cmh well done 1500 words i cant find the motivation to concentrate on anythin at the mo

hi to everyone else not much to report her usual tiredness, highly emotional, bump humongous but on the plus side almost 31 wks and not having to get up for a wee in nite most nites still and sleeping pretty well just hope it continues. something has gone wrong in DPS car hes taking it garage this morning but apparantly worst case scemario it cud cost ova a grand to fix and theres no way we can afford that :(

fingers crossed its smething minor

jasmine51 · 15/03/2011 08:23

Morning all...I think..another night lacking in sleep..and comfort I'm still sleeping on the floor but only have 2 more nights before I get me bed back, cannot wait to be sleepless in my bed instead in the living room.

Am I allowed to ask about OBEM or will you all shout at me and tell me to stop watching it? I wasnt paying the best attention last night but am I right in thinking that the petite girl was 9 days over and ended up having a 9lb 6oz baby? Was any reason given for not delivering sooner? I was just surprised that they let the pg continue so long when they were obviously aware that there were going to be delivery issues.

Hey ho, back to the paint pots and toxic fumes....

KaraStarbuckThrace · 15/03/2011 08:34

Jasmine - I was thinking the same thing! Poor lass she was absolutely shattered, I would have thought they would have done the section earlier. She was enormous though but there seem to be a lot of disagreement over whether it was a big baby or she had a lot of water - think it was a bit of both.

I did think Carol's husband needed to grow a pair.
