mrs - just weighed myself - have now gained 2.5 stone - so 35lbs
Sorry nurse I'm going to hospital as well, but will hopefully be midwives only. I LOVE the idea of a home birth so much and regularly flirt with the idea, but when it comes down to it, I'm just too chicken
Barbie Glad that waffling made sense - sounds like a good plan. I'm always happy to talk about slings, so if you do find that you're really enjoying the closeness and convenience of carrying your baby, but aren't sure of baby's or your own comfort, that's the time to sell on the BB and get something else
TTL I've taped OBEM to watch tonight - can't wait!
I love LOADS of slings - at the moment I have 5 wraps, 1 stretchy wrap, 3 buckle carriers, 1 mei tai and a ring sling - I am a bit obsessed, but believe it or not, there are people far worse than me lol.
Anyway - there are so many great carriers out there - some are better for smaller babies, some better for toddlers, some styles are easy to use (buckle carriers) but don't have the unbelievable adjustability and versatility of the slightly more complicated ones (wraps and mei tais).
I think the absolute most comfortable carrier for a newborn is definitely a wrap - stretchy ones are easier to use than the thick woven ones, but don't last as long. However, lots of people can't be bothered with all the long fabric-ness and learning-curveness of them, so for a lot of people the best first carrier is an easy peasy buckle carrier like a connecta (currently closed as the business is being sold but they will be open again soon) which is priced very similarly to a basic Baby Bjorn but has all of the benefits of the correct seating and support, and can be worn front and back. It's a very streamlined design and doesn't have a big thick structured waistband like some of the more substantial ones. There are various other carriers like this, like angelpack yamo and manduca
There is loads of info about slings in general on slingguide but the absolute way to discover which sling is right for you and your baby is to get along to a slingmeet and see them, try them on and get a feel for them - you can totally go before you have had your baby and there will be loads of people with lots of sling experience who will be able to recommend slings that might be right for you
There is a thriving 2nd hand sling market as well, if anyone wants to know more about that.
Phew - somebody STOP ME!!!
