Hi all, sounds like a lot of you have been feeling under the weather recently! I'm so glad I haven't had thrush so far, I dreaded it at the beginning because I went through a period year or so ago when I got it about 3 times and it was sooo annoying and gross.

I was delighted (NOT) to be woken up at 4.30am by big kicks from the baby, a sign of things to come I'm sure...

Went to visit an amazing house for rent yesterday (our current flat is making me claustrophobic), after visiting so many dives, it was stunning. I would love to live there but omg are we going to live beyond our means until I go back to work after maternity leave!

buttonmoon78 · 21/03/2011 13:36

I was up with the larks too Badger! DS came into our room at 5ish am, climbed into bed between us, got himself comfy using elbows and knees for about 20 mins and then announced he needed a wee. Off he went - but not into our bathroom (about 9feet away from the bed) but upstairs to the main bathroom. He never reappeared so I assumed he'd gone back to bed.

DD1 (13) woke up with her alarm at 6.30 to be informed (at top volume) by DS who was sitting next to her (she has a double bed) that 'it's not time to get up yet, close your eyes and that's the end of it!' He got a big Hmm from her!

I warned them at nursery that he might have a little energy slump this afternoon. After all, he doesn't normally wake until about 7.30!

highheelsandequations · 22/03/2011 10:37

Still poorly today so another day off work, can't talk so wouldn't be much use if I went in, still can't help feeling guilty though. Had mw app this morning, she was really nice and actually seemed interested in me and how I was feeling and checked through all my notes and stuff. Made a change from the booking app when I felt like they couldn't get us out of there quick enough. She eventually found pip's heart (took a lot longer than I do on my home doppler! Had to resist the urge to ask if she wanted me to have a go :o), blood pressure and urine checks all fine and measuring 24cm so spot on. Completely forgot to ask all my questions as usual so now have to wait another 4 weeks to get some answers! Meant to ask about SPD/PGP as I've been starting to get some pains in my hips and pelvis, not too bad at the moment unless I've been moving around a lot but was out walking for about 2 hours on Sun and nearly in tears with the pain when I got home. Have also been having pains when moving my legs apart. Does this sound like it could be the onset of SPD?

Fraochsmum · 22/03/2011 12:27

Sorry to hear you haven't been well highheels - don't feel guilty about being ill though, I have spent my life working with people who call in with just the smidgin of a hangover, at least you have a genuine reason. I would just phone the mw with your forgotten questions, especially if you are going to have to suffer with something for another month. I haven't had SPD so not sure how it feels. I get pain in my hip, which affects my walking and hurts down to my knee, and have been getting physio for a couple of months now.
How are things going with you now confuddled? Got everything crossed for you x
Hope everyone else is well xxx

Fab123 · 22/03/2011 18:14

Hi all!
Thought i'd do a quicky post from Slovakia :)
Button which website has the weight guesser that you figured out 9Ibs from? I was a little worried as they guessed the weight to be 371g at the 20week scan and all the books etc said she should be about 290! Ex was a 10Ib'er and I hear they are more often closer to the father's weight (dagnammit, I was 7.3Ib!)...
Getting swollen ankles and veins in legs. Was told leggins are a good bet if you can't get anything longer than knee high support socks (which I have been wearing ever since I got off the plane!). Support tights for maternity cost a bomb!

Got another antenatal app a week after I get back. Aanyone know what they do at this one? Do I get to hear the heartbeat again? Or is it just another widdle in a pot and BP check? x

Fraochsmum · 22/03/2011 19:32

Oooh Fab! Are you having a lovely time?
I wondered about the weight thing too, however I still don't think they are really accurate; DH was 9lb4oz, I was 8lb6oz, DD was 6lb2oz.
I get an antenatal app every 4 weeks (till later when they are every 2) and it's the sample, BP check, HB check, tummy feel and measure after 24 weeks.
Actually, I had a really sharp stabbing pain earlier - right around the lower part of my bump, which lasted about a minute then went - anyone else had this?

buttonmoon78 · 22/03/2011 19:58

Fab The weight thing was my growth chart from my MW. I assumed everyone got one? If you google growth chart though it might turn up something interesting... Also, you can get proper support stockings on prescription - Ultima Thigh Hold-ups are fairly 'normal' looking hold-ups with a lacy top. Unless you can't bear it, I'd go for black. Unless you particularly favour the American tan look that the sand/natural seem to be Wink

On the subject of support stockings, I've yet to conduct my experiment of chopping some off at the ankle so I can at least wear sandals this summer even if I have to wear leggings with my little summer dresses to cover up my horrid stockings Grin

Hope everyone's feeling ok tonight. HighHeels it could be the start of SPD. To be brutally honest, I wouldn't wait for it to get worse as a referral to a physio could take a long time by which point you could be a lot worse. I'd phone your MW and ask for a referral now.

Want2bSupermum · 22/03/2011 21:04

Hello everyone. Hope you are having a great time in Slovakia Fab!

For support tights I bought the cheap ones from Target here in the US for obese people. They are super comfy and go all the way up and over my bump. I think I have seen the same brand in Tesco - Merona. It would be better to buy the maternity ones but these are $8 while the maternity ones are $22. I got the black opaque which is by far the best colour. They had white and a wierd tan colour too.

Fab123 · 22/03/2011 22:38

Oooh thanks - lots to ask the midwife then! Support stockings and growth charts ahoy! I'll be 24weeks and a bit by then :)

Having a lovely time here thanks. Been a sunny 15 degrees today so sat by the Danube and read for a couple of hours. I've also had a day trip to Vienna (where I ate a lot of chocolate and cake, of course) plus a day trip to a real fairytale castle complete with a blue roof and real turrets! Can't wait to tell Pea I took her there, show her some pics - should be a good bedtime story...

Want2b I miss Target for the bargain buys. When I travelled around Oz on a budget it was the place to go for the cheap essentials. Will have a look in Tesco's though. Funnily enough the one here in Bratislava is bigger than the one in Canterbury (about 10 times) so I'm more likely to find it here than at home!
Thanks all! Adios for now :)

buttonmoon78 · 23/03/2011 07:28

Is now the time to tell Fab we've all been enjoying weather like that? Grin Wink

Want2bSupermum · 23/03/2011 13:56

Well it was snowing this morning here in the New York area. DH did my car at 7am and it was all snowed over again by 7.30. Our neighbour who is a retired marine, has a perfectly manicured lawn, flag flying only in good weather (and yes it flies perfectly) and washes his car like the karate kid kindly shovelled our sidewalk and did my car for me!

nicolamumof3 · 23/03/2011 17:34

lol supermum, that was kind of him tho!

evening all..not been on for a few days. All good here, lots of kicks and getting higher up which is nicer than constantly in my pelvis.

MW next weds, for 24w appointment and will book GTT oh joy Grin

Feeling ok on the most part this week which is nice.

Fab sounds like you are having a lovely time, enjoy it!

button your ds sounds like my ds3 sort of thing he'd do!! How old is he? luka is 3.5yr.

sues1974 · 23/03/2011 20:04

Evening ladies,
Sounds like youre having a lovely time fab, enjoy the rest of your break.
a question for anyone on here under consultancy led care, do you see your MW still or just the obstetrician? i sa my MW at week 16 but i dont think i saw her again last time with my first and wondered if theres anything i might be missing out on. From monday i'll be having a growth scan every 4 weeks - cant wait to see my little boy again on the screen - and i have my BP and urine checked but sont know if i should see my MW too.

Any other 2nd or more time mums really big? im getting to the point now where i dont want people to ask me when im due (at least they realise im pregnant and not just fat lol) because July sound so far away and i look about 7 months gone so think people expect me to say april or may!
A lady with a toddler in a pushchair offered me her seat on the bus the other day and i said thanks but i'll manage as we were nearly there by the time shed seen me (getting jostled from near the driver to a bit further back) but im glad she didnt then ask me how far gone i was as i bet she was hardly showing at week 23.
suz xx

Want2bSupermum · 23/03/2011 20:27

Sues - this is my first and I feel huge. The worrying part is that everyone thinks I look small for 25wks. Here in the US I will have a growth scan every two weeks from 32 weeks because of my back being bad. They are trying to time me being induced so I can avoid a c-section. Once the baby reaches 8lbs 9oz it will be turfed out.

Nicola - how are you feeling these days? I hope things are going better for you.

Also, I am trying to plan my time off. When should I have the nursery ready by? Friends want to throw me a baby shower (I live in the US and my American friends are insisting that I have one) and the provisonal date is June 5th. I am worried that this is a little late as I will be 37 weeks.

nicolamumof3 · 23/03/2011 20:36

sues don't worry honestly, there was a lady at coffee morning yesterday looked about same size as me, so my friend asked her when due...May! so i was a bit embarrassed when i admitted i wasn't due til July. But i soon got over it. This is my fourth child i was overweight (not hugely but size14 and alot of weight on my tummy) before i got pg, so stands to reason that i will show more. I don't worry as i know after the summer i need to exercise and watch what i eat as i want to get toned but more importantly fit and feel good again. Much more important to me these days then how i look as i've struggled so much the last few months.

Thanks for asking supermum, i am having more better days i think, but then it can all change i feel or am sick most days still tho. And had a killer migraine tomorrow.

Baby shower will be lovely!! i think if theres any chance you might have section or be induced i'd try and have it bit sooner tho? Maybe middle of May might be nice?

buttonmoon78 · 23/03/2011 20:42

Nicola he was 4 yesterday - cue shiny new bike having pride of place in my kitchen Grin

I'm not big at all. Despite being predicted a 9lber this time, I've got progressively smaller bumps and babies each time! Last time several mums at school said they hadn't even known I was pg and were totally shocked when I turned up with a baby in a pram! I'm putting that down to the winter clothes as I def looked pg Smile

Had my consultant appt today. Was kept waiting for 2 hours Angry. Not got another appt now until 35+5 but instructions to call if I need drugs before then (like I won't? Hmm). Consultant is all for booking me in for induction at 38 weeks again as he's convinced I'll be begging for it to happen by then like last time. Also got a referral to the physio.

All feels a bit odd as last time I had to fight to get anything at all. This time I feel like it's all being thrown at me and I'm not even sure yet whether I'll need it!

Also, heard tonight, my sis in in hosp with my nephew - he's got bronchiolitis so on oxygen. Apparently not well at all Sad

scarthy1975 · 23/03/2011 21:25

Hi ladies.
sues1974 I feel much bigger this time - I have put on just over a stone so far. A colleague at work and my mom have both said - wow can't believe you've still got nearly 4 months to go!! But then my dh doesn't think I look any bigger than last time. can't really trust what he says though as he struggles to notice if I have my hair cut lol.

fab123 sooo jealous with your hols. One of my wishes is to have a trip down the danube.

Had some good news today - my work will be giving me 1/2 pay for my maternity pay. Have agreed to do some work from home, which I think helped swing it.

Got midwife appointment tomorrow so looking forward to hearing baby again and then scan on 19th April. Its nice to keep ticking these appointments off and getting closer to D Day.

hefner · 24/03/2011 09:56

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted for ages, I've had a busy few weeks and then a lovely relaxing holiday in the lakes last week. I'm not enjoying being back at work, especially in this beautiful weather, but I've only got a few weeks left until my next holiday so it's not too bad.

I've had a quick skim through all the pages I've missed. Sorry to hear a few people are feling ill and having trouble with SPD. Confuddled I really hope things settle down for you.

I'm really enjoying feeling the baby move, and DH has been able to feel it over the last few days, I think that's made him even more excited about it.

MissLolita · 24/03/2011 13:22

Hi everyone, Sorry I haven't posted for ages - I have been lurking but just not found time to post.

Fab your holiday sounds lovely and you're making me really jealous! I am off on 4th April to Egypt and I can't wait.. I am just desperate to get some sunshine on me and I really need to relax for a bit.

Work is really busy and because I'm going away work is piling on. I'm technically only working for 7 days in April as I'm away at the start (Egypt) and then again at the end of the month (Spain) but I'll be on my Blackberry and then I come back and have to fly straight to Switzerland for work for the first week in May. Anyone got any recommendations for flights socks???!!

I have my meeting with HR tomorrow to confirm my leave date for maternity and I'm still quite undecided. DH is freelance/a consultant and works on contracts so I'm the main breadwinner and the one with the stable income so it's hard to judge money which makes me want to go as long as possible to get more time with the baby but then I also think about how nice it would be to have some time off work before...

I think I have been over doing things recently and my body is starting to protest about it. I feel exhausted and my sciatica is back with vengeance; my left leg is slightly numb and my back is killing me. However I am conscious that it is almost certainly my own fault and I have been really luck to stay feeling so well throughout this pregnancy so I really shouldn't grumble! How is everyone doing? We seem to be having a rough old time - thrush, SPD and everything else!

Nicola are you feeling better? I read about the new maternity unit being full in the local paper - they had some awful stories about emergency cases being transferred to Hastings which is a bit scary! I'm West Kent too by the way.

I'm loving hearing about the shopping! I have managed to get some absolute bargains on ebay such as brand new ASOS dresses for £6, Next tops for £5 etc. Do any mummies have any advice on baby things to looks out for? I have a friend who is giving me some bits and pieces (nappy wrapper tub, baby carrier, moses stand etc) but I don't really have anything else. All advice greatly appreciated!

buttonmoon78 · 24/03/2011 22:39

Am sitting here sobbing into my enormous bowl of mint choc chip ice cream whilst watching One Born from Monday night. Every week I find myself thinking 'oh my goodness - I'm having a baby'. You'd think I'd be less surprised by now Hmm

Now that's got my weekly catharsis session out of the way, I'm off to bed in my new clean sheets where I can sleep like a star fish as DH is away. Once I've shifted ds into his own bed that is...

Stangirl · 25/03/2011 04:50

Haven't been on here in an age - hope you are all well.

Well I'm having a boy and everything seems fine. I'm enormous - people keep asking if I'm due next week. Probably put on 2 stone but haven't weighed.

Misslolita My top baby items were baby bjorn, travel system, moses basket. Primark does cheap body suits - all you'll need for the first 3 months - and look for "baby bundle" on ebay. I'd also recommend a bouncer, baby gym and My Breast Friend pillow (if you're bfing). Get everything second hand. Oh - and about half a dozen muslin cloths. I was lucky and was given everything second hand from friends/presents or freecycle. I honestly didn't spend a penny apart from nappies for the first 6 months after DD was born - she only started costing me when we weaned her.

buttonmoon78 · 25/03/2011 11:46

Ladies - I'm devastated, have got a varicose vein in my fanjo! I was in the shower last night and whilst soaping I felt something odd. My first thought was I'd had some sort of prolaspe Blush and had a small panic. Anyway, I'm almost certain it's a vein. It explains the dull throbbing sensation I've had in that region over the last 24-36 hours.

I looked it up online and there's very little which can be done ie no compression knickers (thankfully!). Keeping off your feet (ha!) and sleeping on your left side seems to be the best advice to follow. Even though I'm no stranger to v veins, it's still a shock and not nice.

Worst of all is that my bump is not yet big enough to obscure my vision so I can see how horrible I look! I always think that's a blessing of a pg belly not going down immediately after birth - you can't see what a mess they've made of you! Grin

nicolamumof3 · 25/03/2011 12:18

oh button i had this in last pg towards the end it was hot and i was so uncomfortable standing and walking would really throb down below I had no idea what was wrong and couldn't see a thing as bump so huge. So embarrasingly i had to get dh to check Blush before i rushed to docs. I too thought i had had a prolapse. But he wasn't much help at all. So off i went really upset thinnking this is it im now like an old woman...to be told it was a varicose vein, and to get my feet up. yeah right, i had a 16m old and 6yo to run around after so wasn't happening.

weeks ago i felt the same sensation and can't believe i have it again and so bloody early. Its not nice is it. Mine literally disappeared the day after i gave birth so theres something.

Just taken DS3 to his swimming lesson dh normally goes if he's off but was working today and as i've got my new maternity swimming costume all was good, until he kicked me right in tummy Sad accidentally of course. I feel shattered now just doing school run, walking to swimming and back. Off for nursery run in 20mins.

Another very warm day, just changed the little man into his shorts for nursery!

hefner · 25/03/2011 12:23

Oh no! Sounds like a nasty surprise buttonmoon, the delights of pregnancy! Oh well, at least they're meant to get better once you've had the baby, maybe try not to look until your bump grows enough to hide it from you! Hope it's not too uncomfortable.

buttonmoon78 · 25/03/2011 12:42

Whinge time... I'm sitting on my left buttock more as it's on my right side but that (of course) is making my back and pelvis feel worse! But if I sit properly on it then it truly feels like a prolapse!

Thanks for the sympathy!
