Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fab123 · 25/03/2011 20:01

Oh dear button :( I'm still trying to get used to the ones above my knees that I can feel through leggings. Hope you can put your feet up on the sofa at least and let your man run about after the kids for a few hours?

I got flight socks from Boots in the end but someone on here did say you can get them as a prescription? I haven't tried that yet but think I may be wearing them more often to prevent any more so may well ask the MW when I see her next week.

Watched OBEM yesterday when I got in...did the girl with the funny teeth actually say "Urgh, he SMELLS!" straight after they put him onto her?! I was quite Shock

Fraochsmum · 25/03/2011 20:38

Hahaha yes she did Fab! It really made me laugh as it was so candid - I always used to think that when people talked about the lovely new baby 'smell' - to me it was of wee and sour milk...
Aw I really feel for you Button, my sister suffered the same with her 2nd pg xxx
Poor you nicola it's such a horrible feeling x my DD(14mo) quite often does that when climbing on me, or pushes herself up using my boobs - really not good as my nibbles are so sore at the mo [sorry if tmi]
Spurred on by some of you guys I got my Ebay maternity bundle yesterday! Really chuffed; 3 pair jeans, 2 skirts and 5 tops for £26 all-in! My colleague is also giving me a double buggy for nowt Smile it is a macro ski (or something like that), which she said can be difficult to steer but will be perfect for traveling.
Hope you are feeling better MissLolita x
Good news on the mat pay scarthy!
I did weigh myself the other day to see how much I'd put on, but can't remember what it was now...

Fraochsmum · 25/03/2011 22:59

'macro sky' apparently...

buttonmoon78 · 26/03/2011 07:49

Thanks guys - needless to say I've not told anyone in RL except for DH!

Yes, Fab you can get them on prescription. The docs will try to tell you you're only allowed one pair a year but tell them you must have 2 pairs to allow for washing and that the NHS website on varicose veins says you should replace them every 3-6 months (then get some more at 2 months Grin). They're v easy to ruin so (slightly scared now after the recent thread) don't wash them in the machine and don't dry them over a radiator or in the dryer. I tend to wash them in the shower every night. That's another thing - either get used to showering at night so you can put them on before getting out of bed or make sure you leave 10 mins extra each day to lie flat with your feet up to 'drain' your veins before putting them on. It sounds a faff but if you don't you won't get any benefit!

And yes she did say that! Mind you, after seeing them, I always ask them to be taken away to be wiped up Grin

JimmyChoo17 · 26/03/2011 08:10

Oh button that sounds terribly uncomfortable! I keep reading about these and dreading getting one! I think I would be in a compression body stocking...mind you spanx might do the same?

I thought was getting bh last night but think it was down to my belly being a bit dodgy after dinner. Stomach cramps were awful tho admittedly I did think....well if u think this is painful wait until the big day!!!

How long are people taking off work for mat leave or how long did u take with your first? Want to take year but working out what ££££you get is a shock! Bit disgusted too that having worked and paid tax and ni since I was 16.....I'm not going to reap the benefits in any way!! Have savings but it's all a little daunting. Can't imagine gow my friend with all her secret store card debt is going to manage! Just got mortgage to worry about but that's enough!! Phew panic rant out...

Where has the sun gone?

Fraochsmum · 26/03/2011 10:44

It's been sent to Scotland for us to have a go Grin
I took 9 months off first time Jimmy and intend to do the same this time too. Yeah I know what you mean about the benefits - I was disgusted when I tried to sign on after leaving a job. You would assume the fact I had never been out of employment, even right through uni, and would rather have no job than the one I had meant it had been really bad. But no. I was asked to complete a 3 page questionnaire explaining why I left, which I didn't bother.
I was quite happy to go back after 9 months, but I guess it depends on how your job is and how you feel about going back.

Eglu · 26/03/2011 12:17

Afternoon all. Not been on much this week.

Button sorry to hear about your troubles, it sounds thoroughly unpleasant.

Jimmy I'm taking 9 months off this time as can't afford to earn nothing unfortunately. With DS1 I was a sahm for 2 years, and with DS2 I took a full year off, so this will be my shortest time off. I also love my job this time which helps with the thought of going back though.

DS2 has had a stomach bug since Thursday night, and last night vomited in our bed at 3am. It really wasn't fun changing the sheets at that time. I'm just hoping we don't all get it. DS1 has a tae kwon do grading tomorrow that he is very excited about, and would hate to miss. I always seem to get everything the boys get though, so not feeling hopeful. Still going to keep my fingers crossed though.

On a happier note, I will be 26 weeks on Tuesday, which is exciting. Half a year of being pg! And less time to go until the end.

Want2bSupermum · 26/03/2011 14:56

Button - So sorry to hear of your varicose vein situation. I am petrified of getting them.

I went to HR this week with my intended leave dates. I am entitled to get up to 18 weeks off but asked for a few extra weeks as DH will be travelling. The best is that I come back for three weeks and then bugger off again on holiday. We are going to Denmark to spend Christmas with the outlaws.

The HR director raised her eyebrow at my dates but I explained my reasoning and let them know I can come back earlier if needed but that I understand things are not busy that time of year so I didn't see it being an issue. I also plan to put the baby in daycare part time so I can study for my exams. If I can take my exams before I return to work it will be a lot easier for me in the long run.

Pesha · 26/03/2011 16:08

Hi all Smile

Can't believe how crap I am being at posting Blush

Haven't read thread other than last few posts. WRT mat leave I am self employed childminder and lost all my mindees when I was so ill with the hyperemesis. Have now got very bad SPD/PGP so even if I could find new mindees for the few months till I'm due I'm really not fit to look after other people's small children, couldn't lift and carry or get on the floor to play or change nappies etc. Have been signed off by my dr so am still able to claim wtc and mat allowance will start automatically at 29 weeks. Plan on taking the full 39 weeks as I can only work pt (well PT in cming terms which is about 30 hrs a week!) anyway due to health problems so its not a lot less than I was earning. Means I will be returning to work when baby is about 6 months but being a cm I work from home anyway but will still be quite challenging I think with 4 of my own dc and several other peoples!!

As I said pgp quite bad, the clunk in my back is now audible to others and very unpleasant and pain increasing considerably so will be ringing physio on monday to make another appt. Probably a lot to do with my bump now being huge!!! Can't quite believe I still have another 3 months to go!

On the plus side I haven't been sick for a week now which is lovely! Grin Still feeling quite nauseous quite often and dreadful heartburn but I can live with that.

Am unbelievably tired these last few weeks though, am going to bed before 10 most nights which is very early for me, not getting up till 7, at least twice a week I am going back to bed for a couple of hours in the morning when ds2 is at playschool and still struggling to stay awake come 7pm. Am wondering if I might be aneamic or something but next mw appt is less than 2 weeks away when I'll be 28wks and I think they do more blood tests then so will wait for that.

Sorry didn't mean to come on and just moan about myself Blush I try very hard not to moan IRL so MN is my self pity outlet!!

My happy news is that we are buying a new car (new to us, not new new!), should be getting it start of next week and I am very excited! We bought a Honda FRV a few months ago and I hate it, dp admitted he really doesn't like driving it either so we are changing for an S max. Wouldn't be my No1 car choice tbh but given I went and got pg again so we're going to have 4 dc I think its the best we can afford that will accomodate all of them! And only 6.5 years till DD is 17 and can have her own car and then I can get a proper car!! Grin Wink

Hope everything is going well with everyone else Smile

Fraochsmum · 26/03/2011 17:57

So delighted - just got a Phil & Ted's Sport for free!! I just met a girl in the supermarket who I knew wasn't using hers anymore, introduced myself and asked her if I could buy it from her if she still had it [brassneck]. Anyhoo, she said there were a few things needing replaced and could do with a right good clean, but just to come round and take it for nothing Grin Grin
Enjoy the car Pesha, its such a lovely feeling to get a new one! Shame you're not feeling too great at the moment, try to up your green veg to see if that helps. Although I have to say I'm still getting pretty tired easily.
Got a wee shock today when someone asked how long I had to go now - 16 weeks!!!! It was the first time I've been asked it and admit it did sound really close...so exciting tho!

Pesha · 26/03/2011 18:15

Yay to a free pushchair! Grin

And good thinking about the weeks, I've been thinking I've still got just over 3 months to go but its also less than 14 weeks now which makes it seem like much less!

JimmyChoo17 · 26/03/2011 20:31

Well done on the freebie!! Yep as of today it's 16 weeks for me too!

I'm hoping to take a year then tag my leave one the end which is 37 days incl bank hols ( but may eat into that at start of mat leave) but will see how we manage and reduce if things become difficult money wise. I'm lucky that I do enjoy my job and hate that some one will be in my place whilst away or that something like redundancy could happen. Trying to think i f can do anything to keep a little extra cash coming in.

nicolamumof3 · 26/03/2011 20:58

oh pesha, sounds like you are up against it. My spd getting much much worse. If i do even small amount of walking or housework my pelvis really really hurts. Really hobbling tonight after ironing for a couple of hours followed by floor mopping and hoovering. Not great, but someones got to do it!!

Eglu, we had d2's TKD grading today, he is only in the tots class as he's just five but he passed really pleased, he got his red stripe bless him. Hope your ds managed to grade.

Fraocho i am familiar with both the marco sky and p&t had 18m age gap between ds2 and 3 got through alot of pushchairs. P&t will be much much much easier to push. They clean up lovely and spare parts readily available if you need any advice give me a shout Grin

I agree that it does seem not so long to go when you think of it in weeks. Have 4d scan next month and hopefully that will give me an idea of where placenta is now and hoping its moved up. As i can't really get my head around birth atm with not knowing.

wrt mat leave i've been sahm since being made redundant two years ago, with ds1 could only take 12 weeks in total so went back when he was really young, took 6m off with the other two but went back pt so not too bad, but found it harder after ds3 so glad i don't work anymore as managing four would be tricky and impossibly financially with childcare!

Fab123 · 26/03/2011 21:17

Hey guys. Hope everyone is well. Has anyone heard from Confuddled recently?

Not sure if this is a moan or what, but the ex is now excited about a name (one that I suggested at the very start) as he has now read a book I recommended ages ago and loves it. Trouble is I've decided on something else, that he doesn't like needless to say, and although I like both names I feel quite annoyed. It would be easy to say to everyone "oh I just changed my mind" but it irks me that he now thinks he gets a say. I do want him to like the name though. Bit Confused.
He also appears to be trying to sell me his second hand car (which apparently me mentioning might need changing once Pea gets here - it's a Punto FFS - was one of the things that triggered the split). Why why why why whyyyyyy!?!?

Humph. Heartburn as well.

BUT! I have my (very early) Baby Shower tomorrow, so I have cake to look forward to! Yay! Grin

nicolamumof3 · 26/03/2011 21:45

Enjoy your baby shower fab it will be lovely!

as for ex and the name thing he can sod off imo he gave up his say on that a while back imo.

Fab123 · 26/03/2011 22:00

Thanks Nicola. I've told him that seeing as he said at the start he didn't like the name I decided to save it for my second.... (obv not planning on having with him). Wink

Hope the fanjo is alright. I wonder if one of those ergonomic chair thingies would help - where your legs are under you bent back? Might be an easier way to sit?

Off for an early night now as heaven knows I needs me some beauty sleeps! x

bumble34 · 26/03/2011 22:06

hi everyone has anyone else had spd that has improved? Been getting pains since week 18, now 26 weeks Been on crutches for 2-3 weeks and doing exercises and yoga. This last week the pain has really subsided back to how it was at the start (as long as i don't overdo it!) Obviously I'm not complaining just really suprised. Anyone else tried a pelvic floor release it seems to be since doing that?

Otherwise starting to get really big, baby moving more and more and generally feeling good. Hope the nice weather holds this year so we can all enjoy our time off

Pesha · 26/03/2011 22:14

Whats a pelvic floor release?

Mines becoming almost unbearable at times now so keen to hear of anything that might help.

bumble34 · 26/03/2011 22:19

i read about it on the www.spinningbabies.com thought i'd give it a try and have found i've had less tightness in my pelvis and hip joints and now less pain everywhwere. It hasn't gone and i still have to be careful with what i do but it is 100 times better than it was 2 weeks ago.

nicolamumof3 · 27/03/2011 08:32

i shall be reading that bumble. Pesha im the same i was in tears last night trying to get comfy i have a trapped nerve in shoulder to add to the pelvic and hip pain. i just said to dh if this had been first pg it would have been the only one!!

Mitchell81 · 27/03/2011 18:00

I have been sitting at the hospital since Thursday as DD is not well and now my feet have swollen obviously from sitting all day in a hot ward buy my SPD seems to be better obviously helps not doing school runs, walking , cleaning etc. Will have to tell dh that I can no longer do those things. (if only.!!!!!) I have 12 or maybe 13 weeks left, can't believe it this pregnancy is going so quickly. So haven't commented on other posts but on my phone and can't remember much.
Fab I agree you get to choose baby name and can change your mind. Great news about getting a free p+t, I have the vibe and very pleased.

I can't wait to get home as got a friend and my mother to pick up things from the local nearly new baby stuff sale on Saturday and am hoping that they picked stuff I would like, otherwise will just sell them at the next one and buy new.

Stangirl · 27/03/2011 18:53

Mitchell I hope your DD is better. I too spent last weekend in hospital with DD - she had suspected meningitis.

So sorry to hear that so many of you ladies are suffering from various ailments. Wishing you all a better next 3 months!

I'm looking to get a P&T too - either an explorer or vibe but will need to get second hand. We're also getting a second hand Volvo v70 - probably about 10 years old - this is the only new baby expense we'll have (hopefully).

Lastly - on the maternity leave I had one year last time and I'll do the same this time - but will go back fulltime afterwards.

Eglu · 27/03/2011 19:16

Nicola DS1 got his yellow belt today so he is happy as am I. DS2 is still being sick, nobody else has caught it yet though, still keeping fingers crossed.

Bumble I will be taking a look at that link too thanks.

Mitchell sorryto hear about your DD, hope she is better soon.

Today has been exhausting, the grading went on forever, then we had to go and do some shopping. I guess I'll have DS2 at home all day tomorrow too, since he is not going to be fit enough to back to nursery.

Twit · 27/03/2011 21:04

HI all, hope everyone is ok.
I wasn't anaemic last monday, and do feel loads better than I did TBH. DS3 is now going to playschool two days a week instead of every morning which cuts down on the walking and my pelvis has thanked me for it. I have a physio appointment on Friday as well - what should I wear?
I can't remember if I'm just shy of 26 or 27 weeks... er... Blush anyway another 10 weeks and I'd had DS1 (born at 36 weeks) which certainly puts a more urgent slant on things. I'm getting my hair cut on Saturday which I'm looking forwards to as I have had to keep cancelling it - hopefully I'll be able to book myself a colour as well ready for the summer.
I bit the bullet laswt weekend and sorted all the kids clothes out, everything is in labelled bags in the loft ready for the next user, or in charity bags. I went through the baby clothes and have got the smallest sizes and the little nappies waiting to be washed in the wardrobe.Does anyone look at the little things and think 'aw, tiny' then hold it to their bump, imagine a head and cringe?
Hayfever is making itself known now which is a pain - ah well.
Oh and my foray into ebay has resulted in me going to bid for a pushchair (probably tomorrow) and in bidding on a few clothes for me, all at 99p ('cos I am a meanie) in fact there's only 10 mins left on some trousers so am getting excited (sad)
I am also embarrassed to admit how pregnant I am because of the size of my bump, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

bumble34 · 27/03/2011 21:41

twit you made me laugh. I know I'm big but if one more person says in surprise gosh that long to go i thought you looked ready to pop In think i will explode!!

As for the spd back on my ball tonight! Stuck in my car for 3 hrs today and been really bad since then Couldn't get ds out of the bath, got stuck on the floor unable to get up without help. The only positive i'm getting quite good at using the laptop whilst balancing on the ball. I think this may be my fav labouring position and all you lovely lady's to chat to to pass the time :)
