Evening all. My bump has been very wriggly today and it's not the best when you are trying to concentrate on work. Grin

Talking of maternity leave. I'm going off on 2nd June, which happens to be my birthday. I'll be 36 weeks then. I hope that I can last that long as the shortness of breath is getting worse and worse and I'm only 23 weeks. Also the back pain is getting worse, so will mention to the mw next week.

Crikey that was a bit of a moan. Probably beacause everything has felt like hard work today.

confuddledDOTcom · 08/03/2011 21:16

Thanks everyone, even if I go all the way I'm going to be jumpy over everything, I found last time that it was easier to just get her out and know what was happening than to be going through the uncertainty. Hopefully I won't drive you all mad for the next 10 weeks stressing about it.

Cara, I was 22 weeks yesterday.

Scarthy, I've accepted everyone, apart from a man with the initials DS who no one has claimed, so you should be in. The discharge could be your plug (it's quite normal to lose it during pregnancy) have you had sex recently? That can dislodge the plug.

I gave my boss my dates for my ML today. Last day will be 24th June, I'll be 37+2. Was thinking about trying to last another week, which would take me to the end of term but decided I don't want to risk it. Would lie soem time at home and getting things organised before pip arrives. Makes it all seem like it's very close and moving far too quickly now!

confuddled also keeping fingers crossed for you.

I have also had a very wriggly bump today, was getting kicks and wriggles all the way through pilates and my book group!

JimmyChoo17 · 08/03/2011 21:40

Hiyee everyone! Thanks for starting new thread confuddled I hope you are ok tho? xx

squirrel I too am searching for that bloom. Big fat lie if you ask me! Mind you the illness has eased finally at about 20 weeks (touch wood as painfully aware it keeps returning but worse) and 21 weeks (Now) is all about water retention. Confused

Had loads of movement yesterday and very little today...must have liked the cake I baked yesterday.

BH do sound very scary.

OBEM - lots of weepyness this week...am sure I am crying the closer I get..I found the guy who lost his dad - quite annoying to watch. I felt for him when he was talking about his father but he seemed to be forever saying the WRONG thing....

Reality hit in for JimmyChoo over the weekend.

Bought cot.
Cot is up in spare room where shoes and handbags once were...
Reality. Kicked. In.

Kept walking into the nursery staring...and walking back out. Have no idea how - even after so long of trying and horrible losses...I am actually going to do this!! Am sure this is just the pure roller coaster of emotions everyone goes thru - but I suddenly find myself really excited then really really panicking about money...the state of the country and the end of the world bizarrely?!! Shock

And breathe....

JimmyChoo17 · 08/03/2011 21:42

Sorry *crying more the closer I get

nicolamumof3 · 08/03/2011 22:13

just marking my place on new thread, will read through properly tomorrow.

i need some kind of 'support' too. Bought some huge knicks from mothercare but they went straight back as couldn't see them providing much in way of support tbh.

just treated myself to new maternity top from boden. only have one other maternity one, just about fitting in my normal tops....so far!

cara2244 · 08/03/2011 22:33

Eglu, I find every day hard work! Just the amount of thinking that has to go into everyday life to make sure I minimise hip and back pain. Extra things to remember, like arch supports, lumbar roll etc etc! I found this website for a pgp charity I can't remember the url but its recommended on the nhs website. They have a section on the emotional aspects of pelvic and back pain in pregnancy and it made me realise that it is good so discuss how you're feeling, even if you do seem to be constantly moaning.

sues1974 · 09/03/2011 06:55

Hi ladies, great new thread and great news on all the lovely scans. just realised that i was never given my MAT1B form at the scan and my midwife said i would be. better give her a ring to see if she can do me one.
Im leaving work on 10th June, sounds ages away but im off this week, then have 6 weeks to work then off at easter and then only have another 6 weeks to work and i'll be finished. i'll be 35 weeks pregnant but with having c section at 38 weeks will only have 3 weeks at home before the baby comes.
Its all becoming very real now isnt it xx

buttonmoon78 · 09/03/2011 07:14

I think you might be talking about the Pelvic Partnership website Cara. It's a really good resource. I can remember thinking last time when reading the practical advice section 'of course - that would be so much easier!' But when you're entrenched in a way of doing something as you've been doing it for decades it's hard to see there is another way!

Feeling a bit better today. I had a really good night's sleep so have woken feeling refreshed and less sore. I hope it continues - got to do my grandma's cleaning today...

SpannerPants · 09/03/2011 08:07

Hello ladies, I'm finally back online after moving house! Not that I did the actual moving, my lovely DP did it all Grin

I've been to see an osteopath about my PGP who has worked miracles and I'm pain free for the first time in 6 weeks. Apparently being flexible is a bad thing as my lower back is having to take all the strain, so she taped me up so I could barely move and it was instantly better.

I'm going to try to work up to 38 weeks (end of June) but have a week of annual leave at the beginning of June and a day each week off after that until I leave. I really hope it will work out as I can't afford to miss any more of my training.

I've been exactly the same Jimmy - when I have time to sit and think about it, I get really freaked out. I've bought a car seat and isofix base so far but they're sitting in boxes in what will be the nursery with the door firmly closed - head in the sand or what?!

nicolamumof3 · 09/03/2011 09:18

morning all, just read back Smile

I think im going to book a 3/4d scan as i want the sex confirmed. Have already bought quite a bit of pink and dh and my mum both really excited about have a daughter so i would like to have it confirmed and as my last pg i quite fancy having a better look Grin so think they do that from about 26w going to book for next month.

I think we were talking about a sharp bump pain from above bellybutton on last thread? i had this last night and again this morning so painful. Was doing quite a bit tho yesterday.

Been feeling better and more on top of things my back and hips both going tho have apt next week with docs will see if i get referral to physio?

Enjoy the rest of the week ladies, good luck to all those having scans, its such an exciting time!

Badgerwife · 09/03/2011 09:51

I don't think it's going to properly kick in for us until we move at Easter. Our flat is too small, I get claustrophobic just walking into it, there's no space for a cot or pram or anything like that, so we're not buying anything for ages yet!

Re maternity leave dates, I'm thinking I'll leave on 17 June. I'll only be 35 weeks, but I'm saving up all of my holiday to tag it to the mat leave. There's just no way that I'm doing 3 hours a day of commuting to London in July weather... I'm already struggling to do stairs at 20+5 so no thanks.

Twit · 09/03/2011 10:34

hehehehe

It's just sinking in. Yep. It's one of the reasons I haven't been in the loft getting stuff down. I want to wait beacuse I don't really want it sinking in yet and also because despite what it might seem with booking maternity leave (for me at least) it will drag.
So I will have something scary exciting to do a bit later.
We're getting a moses basket from a friend because we got rid of most of our stuff (although I kept back some clothes and my nappies as insurance Hmm )
I am tempted to get the little sizes out though, just to hold them.

You know, if we can't moan talk about our pregnancies here where can we? I see it as an outlet so we aren't always complaining to our families and friends.
It's tiring to be in pain all the time, and sometimes it feels like it (rather than the pregnancy) is all there is at the moment.
DD and DS3 are home with another bug, it's starting to get annoying Wink. At least I don't have to walk to school 3 times a day.

inbetweener · 09/03/2011 11:46

Morning all,

I just checked my maternity leave policy and weirdly I will receive half pay weeks 1-8 and then half pay plus SMP for weeks 9-39. How odd is that ?? So for the first two weeks of baby's life I will be pretty skint and then more or less back to normal for 39 weeks ?? How bizarre ??

I havent actually booked it yet though so all of you are way ahead of me Grin

I havent got anything out of the loft either and the cotbed is still firmly packed away. I will start getting properly organised after my scan on monday I think. Eeekkkkk so excited !!

Oh I tell a lie, I have my pushchair ! A bugaboo bee that I got for £100 !! its fab !!

nicolamumof3 · 09/03/2011 11:51

that was a bargain the bee. i have a bee plus to use and cannot wait. Was pleased getting that for £100 less but yours is a true bargain!! I am wanting a carrycot to put on my micralite superlite tho for first weeks before i use bee, but am struggling to find one.

inbetweener · 09/03/2011 11:56

Two months I mean. The first two MONTHS i will be skint.

inbetweener · 09/03/2011 12:00

My bugaboo is second hand though. It belonged to one of the doctors here at work whose nanny hardly ever used it ( sigh ....oh how the other half live lol ) so I am really chuffed with it.
Its black and really smart, it also came with the nest, foot muff and raincover so i was really lucky i know.Grin

nicolamumof3 · 09/03/2011 12:31

Still a bargain with the extras could have cost £200 on ebay

Twit · 09/03/2011 12:55

All this talk of pushchairs and ebay... my DH is going to phone me later to let me know whether he has bid for a pushchair (he has the account not me) I have been eyeing up. And whether he has won it if he did....
We haven't been ebaying long and are still a bit overwhelmed TBH. I'm not telling what until afgter he has called though Wink

nicolamumof3 · 09/03/2011 14:37

Ah hope you get it twit.

Orchid12 · 09/03/2011 15:04

Good luck with the pushchair bidding Twit

Good to see everyone is ok and the scans are all going well Smile

I have a question for all the mums who already have a DC. I have a two and a half year old who is currently sleeping in his cotbed that he has had since birth (it's now a bed, not a cot!). He is going to be ousted soon and given a single bed (when we get round to buying one!). The baby will then be in the cotbed again. I have read all about the recommendation to get a new mattress for each baby but I was wondering how many of you are planning to do this, or indeed have done if you have been through this already?

The mattress we have is from John Lewis - it has a zip around cover that I think is washable, which is then covered by a waterprooof fitted sheet, and then a cotton fitted sheet which my son sleeps on. It's in immaculate condition. I'm torn between not wanting to take risks, but also not wanting to throw money away on buying another mattress when this one is in such good condition. What do think?

isitreallythattime · 09/03/2011 15:05

Hi all,

Cannot believe that we are on our third thread. We do have alot to talk about though Grin.

Been to hospital today as woke with palipitations that wouldnt go away, has anyone else had those. A little frightening when they said they were going to get me an ambulance, I said id be fine getting there myself. I was more worried about if it affects the baby but all seems ok now.

I too am desperate to start looking through old baby clothese but trying to hold off until a little nearer.

Does anyone else feel really heavy? I was a small (ish) frame before pregnant and have put on nearly two stone already (oooops) Blush.

Desperately trying to keep active but it was only yesterday walking up a large hill that i realised how hard it is carrying the extra weight, and only half way.

It gets really annoying when people say my arnt you big, im like yes well aware of that thanks.

ALso, is anyone getting fed up of being asked do you know what it is yet. Thats all people say to me at the moment... grrrrr, moan, moan..

Hope everyone is OK!

Twit · 09/03/2011 15:31

Yes, as I've said I'm massive (and normally small,
I'm glad you're ok Smile

DS3 is in the bed (cot) and for about 6 months or as long as this one fits we'll use a moses basket.
DS3 is on the same mattress DD used, I always cover them before putting a sheet on anyway to make them extra comfy. This one will also use the mattress when he goes into the cot, onto his fleece at first then as normal when he is too big for it.
I used the same moses basket and mattress for DD and DS3 as well, but they always sleep on a fleece anyway.
About an hour to go. Am hovering over the computer ready to hold back anyone else who feels like bidding.

Twit · 09/03/2011 16:17

BREAKING NEWS!!

We had a chat and decided not to bid.
I thank you.

I'll keep looking though Wink
I feel a bit disappointed even though I haven't lost it if that makes any sense.
Sitting around with 2 ill LO's is giving me itchy fingers obviously Grin

Eglu · 09/03/2011 16:39

Afternoon all, I noticed we were on active convos so felt the need to post.

Thanks you for the information on PGP websites. I will be off to Google after work.

I gave in and bought a little dress today in M&S because it was so cute. I'm really going to try and not buy too much else though. Particularly as you can never tel lwhat the weather will be like in the summer. Especially here in Scotland. I don't want to go buyign summery things and then have to wrap the poor baby up.

I am getting to the stage where I want to go and wash all the babygros and vests, but it really is a bit early. I had serious nesting with DS2, partly because he was a home birth and I had this obsession that my baby must be born in a perfect environment. Not sure how that will work this time if the PGP gets worse as I will want to do stuff but will struggle physically. Nevermind, I will keep positive and hope that the pain doesn't get worse.
