Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
confuddledDOTcom · 13/05/2011 12:34

inbetweener, sounds like your baby is lying on your vena cava when you lie on your back which is why they advise against it. Have you tried to sleep semi upright with pillows/ cushions to propping you up?

sues, could be the plug BUT it's completely normal to lose it during pregnancy (my record was 6 times!) and it grows back. If you aren't have any other symptoms of labour it's (losing your plug) nothing to worry about. If you're worried book in with the GP.

OP posts:
Eglu · 13/05/2011 13:43

Hi all.

Sues it sounds like it could be thrush. I would just make an appointment with a GP to get some canesten for it.

It sounds like we are all having the same problems sleeping. I have to keep turning over as my hips get sore too. I'm sick of getting up a million times on the night to go to the toilet too.

On the plus side I only have 2 more weeks at work, then I can actually get ready for this baby.

Christmas78 · 13/05/2011 13:45

Afternoon ladies, just back from a very unsatisfactory midwife appointment. My first medical appointment since my 20 week scan and the midwife was clearly too busy and very uninterested so I didn't feel like she had any time to really talk an anxious first timer through anything. At least I don't have to wait too long for the next one and I shouldn't complain because all seemed well.

On the upside I'm starting to get really excited now and am obsessed with my hospital bag although the lists of things you're supposed to take plus my tendency to overpack may mean it's more of a hospital suitcase!

Just bit the bullet and told my mum and sister I'm not going to make it up to see them. I was going to get the train there and back (5.5 hours each way) but I'll be 32 weeks and suddenly I just can't bear the thought of travelling. If they don't come down to me it means neither of them will see my bump before it goes though as I haven't been up since the month before I got pregnant. I'm a bit bitter about it as both of them work for themselves and have no dependents so don't have trouble taking time off but have both only ever been to see me once each in ten years. I go to them about twice a year and work full time! I really really hope they come down this time. I don't think I've ever put my foot down like this. Eek.

Re the posts about talons earlier - whoops - I've been craving whole milk and drinking pints of the stuff. Uh oh!

Stangirl · 13/05/2011 18:51

Jimmy I first heard about raspberry leaf tea at my ante-natal classes with DC1. It's supposed to make the uterus practice contracting and so is not recommend until quite late on - 36 wks? On closer questioning of the MW taking the class she said that there was no evidence at all that it did anything but "just to be safe" the MWs had adopted a policy of asking women not to drink it till later i pregnancy. This idiocy was added to my list of "Reasons to consider MWs unprofessional imbeciles" which is considerably longer that the list headed "Reasons to consider MWs helpful professionals to turn to for help and advice".

cara2244 · 14/05/2011 06:22

To those with uncomfortable bumps, I am in that club too.

Whoever said about quick mw appointment...I felt that very much in the first pregnancy. If al is ok, you do feel like you don't get any time. I go along with a list of questions every time now. Maybe join an antenatal class, that may help.

Whoever said about cancelling the long relatives journey, I totally agree with you. At 32 weeks they should come to you.
Annoyingly, I have to travel 4 hours to cardiff When I will be 33 weeks....Have been in a panic about it, but its for some extra work and I really need the money. AM planning to powernap on the way home.

cara2244 · 14/05/2011 06:23

Oooh had a sneaky peak at the May thread as they are all having their babies now. Just June and then its our turn! What should we call it?!?

JimmyChoo17 · 14/05/2011 08:18

cara.... Maybe something like..."Pfffftttttttttt......July bumps deflating!" ha ha, my nephew said I look like I have a lot of gas! Silly thing but he made me chuckle.

I got invited for a girls weekend end of may early June and I've declined much to disgust of my friends who think I should be able socialise still....I can but this will involve a 4 hour drive and 2 days of them on the cocktails w hilst I follow them round! I'll be 34/35 weeks then.

I don't think I'll get any understanding from them as they are not and have never been in a similar situation :( made me feel a bit pants really. But doing what's right for me and my body.

stangirl thanks, I new there mustbe some sort of science behind it....maybe worth a punt later on.

Does anyone know if your mums gestation period affects yours? Mum went early with all3 and only just found out my older sister was born at 6 months! It's had no bearing on her at all.

buttonmoon78 · 14/05/2011 08:47

Grr. Typed post and it vanished Angry

Sues I'd be thinking thrush in your shoes.

Christmas I don't blame you. It's hard but when it's you doing all the running it's not fair.

Jimmy I don't blame you for declining. I would now and I'm only 29wks! And I really love that title. Especially as when mine do come out, I've no bump left at all, just a saggy pouch which looks exactly like a deflated balloon!

My mum's gestation has not affected mine at all. I read somewhere that your partner can affect it - you can be consistently early/late with one partner but it's common for women to then be the opposite with another partner. So it sounds like something else to blame them for Wink

Just putting a lovely load of baby clothes through the wash - my neighbour brought them round last night. She said 'if it's a boy there'll be bags and bags of the stuff' cos of course, no one else knows it's a boy! Her baby was born in March but not expected til April so there's loads of stuff which shouldn't be too seasonally out for mine if it comes mid-July. Which will be handy Grin

Now I'm going to press post before it can vanish again...

JimmyChoo17 · 14/05/2011 08:56

Hate it when the pc does that button!

Had a result at a friends this week got lots and lots of baby bits on loan including a brilliant baby video monitor! They are expensive so am pleased been freaking out hubby with it...small things amuse small minds :).

Amognst other things brand new bath, travel cot, bumbo, electric boob pump...saved me lots of ££££.....no ones offered to lend me a maid yet...am working on it.

I think hubby's mum went within 1 week before due date for both.

Want2bSupermum · 14/05/2011 13:08

Hello everyone. Tried to catch up and read all the posts. I am starting to really struggle at work as I am so tired. DH is still running about trying to get all of his travel in so I have been on my own most nights. My 32wk appointment went well and I can't believe I am 33wks already. DH has his baby shower today. He decided that he wanted to have a boys day out so he is spending the afternoon at a beer hall with his buddies. In the evening they are going out for steak. My baby shower is next Sunday and I am so excited.

confuddledDOTcom · 14/05/2011 14:02

I had a very tiring couple of hours last night when I was having tightenings every two minutes. I've made a rule that I wait for two hours, if it stops then no need to worry if it doesn't then I start making arrangements with babysitters/ Doula. Mostly it's to stop others from stressing, as my Doula said last night two hours isn't that long to worry about it especially now I've had the steroids and I'm into the 30s. I did have a show afterwards but as nothing much else has happened I'm not too concerned.

Christmas78, if you have any questions you can ask us and we'll try to help. Being pregnant you have to put yourself first and if your family aren't willing to come to you that's their problem because you can't put yourself through it and they're the one going to be missing out on knowing your baby.

JimmyChoo17, my mum delivered two at 38 weeks and one at 44 weeks (early scan so no mistake) and I still keep delivering early.

Sues, it could be thrush too (I was trying to reassure that there's nothing wrong with losing the plug early) do you feel like you have thrush symptoms?

I didn't sleep well last night either Sad and I have officially turned into a Grumpy Arsed Fecker. I can't seem to get interested in anything and I can't concentrate for long either. It's such a good job I'm not working ATM, I can't tell you how much in awe I am of anyone still working (I know there's alot of you). DH wants me to choose paint and curtains and bedding for our bedroom so it's nice when BabyTwit comes, but I can't be arsed to choose
Meh.

Mitchell81 · 14/05/2011 19:06

Just had my second dose of steroids as fluid is still low. But baby growing well and above average. So no problems and my consultant wants to wait till 37 weeks before doing my section if they can. Will be 33 weeks on Monday so might only have 4 weeks left. Today was my 3 year old birthday party which was a great success as weather was good so sent all day outside on climbing frame and bouncy castle.
Hope everyone is well.

isitreallythattime · 14/05/2011 20:29

Im fed up guys, washing machine broke today and discovered shower has crack in it. Fortunately, finishing work in two weeks so can get orgnaised then. Pu DS into 'big boy bed' today so one less thing to worry about.

Can i ask those with kiddies allready, is it safe to re-use mattresses (used for 3 1/5 years) or should you replace with new for new babe? Really paronoid that I might jinx myself if i dont treat babe to new one? Also, are people buying new monitor or using old? Was thinking of buying breathing detor one???

Getting really close now peeps..... x

buttonmoon78 · 15/05/2011 08:15

Isitreally I'm reusing my mattress (again). It's a fully sprung mattress with a zip off top section that you can boil wash and has only been stored in the house. I think the information is v confusing but from what I can make out, if it's your child that's previously used it and it's been stored within the house then it's ok.

And I'll also be reusing my knackered old monitor. The only time I use it anyway is when we go away as our house is madeofpaper a newbuild.

Mitchell glad to hear baby is growing well. At least you know that if anything happens early then it'll be a sensible size!

Was worrying last night. DH was only home yesterday (gone again now til prob next Sunday) so we went out with the kids to a local farm. All v entertaining but I walked too much. Despite using my crutches and it all being level I ended up going to bed with tablets because my groin was hurting so much. Not my back, oddly, nor the front joint but that pain which shoots down your thighs from your groin. I lay there for about a nanosecond before passing out with tiredness thinking 'oh dear, I've done it now' but when I got up this morning, things don't seem to be nearly as bad so that's good. I didn't notice when I got up in the night as I was so keen to get back into bed!

Was wondering - those of you who said you've given up using a pillow between your knees in bed - has your physio actually shown you how to log roll into bed? If you put the pillow in place whilst sitting on the edge then using your legs as a counter balance, swing them up whilst lowering your shoulders (use your arm for support) you can keep it in place. It's a bit odd at first, but after about a week of being helped, you get the hang of it and it becomes second nature. I get into bed that way even when not pg now!

ALso, been a bit bothered by BH. I know they're not 'doing' anything, I'm not worried about prem labour or anything but it's exhausting! They've been every 15 mins or so regularly with some extras thrown in when I need the loo or something. I remember there being lots last time but this is more again! I guess it's the price you pay for #4!

HighFibreDiet · 15/05/2011 11:07

Hi everyone. 31 weeks now and feeling really tired. Not sure if it's GD (I hope not but I haven't had the GTT results yet), low iron levels or just trying to look after 3 kids while pregnant. But I just haven't felt like doing anything at all past what is absolutely necessary, and really could do with an extra nap every day.

And the boys aren't helping -they are really challenging our authority (mine and dp's). I wish when I said it was bedtime, they just got ready for bed without turning it into a huge battle. Angry Anyway ds2 has just come up to say sorry so I'd probably better go and spend some time with him.

HighFibreDiet · 15/05/2011 11:08

oh my mum was late with both of us; I have been early with all 3 of mine.

Fab123 · 15/05/2011 12:34

Hey everyone! With you all on the no energy thing. Keep trying to make an effort to walk into town to see people and just be a little sociable, but it's such a struggle. On the plus side I had a 3D scan yesterday (have put a pic on the FB page) and she's weighing in as a week older (chubbawubba) with very long legs. She had her hands plastered all over her face, so I have a few pics of just fingers! Anterior placenta has moved up and she is head down with no obstruction, which has me breathing easier at least!

Will be calling my friend this week and seeing if I can just get them to stay for one night rather than the whole bank hol weekend. Fingers crossed they see the sense in it! Thanks for the advice guys :)

HighFibreDiet · 15/05/2011 13:04

Fab, hope the conversation goes well. Often these things are better than you think, once you've actually got the courage up to talk to them.

Christmas I can quite understand you wouldn't want to do a 5.5 hr journey to see your mum and sister. At the moment anything more than about half an hour puts me off.

Mitchell I have two birthday parties to arrange before this little one arrives, thanks for reminding me as I haven't done anything for either of them yet Shock.

SpannerPants · 15/05/2011 15:29

I've been lurking recently - have been so busy I haven't had time to post! Luckily I've only got 1 full week at work before I go part-time (after a week of annual leave around the bank holiday) - I never thought I would be this tired! I need to work up to 39 weeks so I only miss 1 month of my training, then I don't have to repeat it at a later date, I just hope the baby stays put until then!

Jimmy and Stangirl - I've just put some raspberry leaf tea in my online shopping basket to come later in the week - I've heard the tea isn't as strong as the tablets, and that you can start having 1 cup per day after 30 weeks so I'm going to do that. Sounds great about all the baby things Jimmy - even better when you don't have to pay for things isn't it?!

Confuddled still hoping your little one stays put for as long as possible, glad your DH is back in time :)

HighFibreDiet I think looking after 3 kids is tiring in it's own right, let alone being 31 weeks pregnant as well! I remember being knackered after babysitting my 3 sisters and that was as a young, fit teenager (definitely not pregnant!)

Mitchell glad the baby is growing well, must be strange thinking there may only be 4 weeks to go! Sounds like a great birthday for your DS, I still love bouncy castles to this day!

Right, time to go and finish off cooking the Sunday roast - I've had a day of tidying, cleaning and baking today and I'm knackered, so will probably be going to bed shortly afterwards.

confuddledDOTcom · 15/05/2011 16:00

Loving the scan pics on facebook! Is there anyone not part of the group who'd like to join? I still have that man waiting to be accepted, I don't know if anyone joined and hasn't been accepted, please let me know if it's you.

Buttonmoon, that's sciatica. It's part of the PGP group.

I've got two events to arrange soon, first is the eldest's 5th birthday party. We tend to just take the upstairs of a pub which they let us self cater then tidy up after us (score!) but I need to book it and the entertainment. Hoping more people come this year as it was rather quiet compared to how many invites sent/ RSVP'd last year. Also got the Breastfeeding Picnic in June which we're hoping will be the biggest one yet but the other organiser has backed out so I'm trying to get it done on my own. I need to get on with it!

I found out yesterday how badly timed my pregnancies have been. I missed out by 3 months on the Health in Pregnancy(?) grant with my last one, this time I've missed out by just over a month with the Maternity Grant as they've made it eldest child only AND they've stopped the Health in Pregnancy grant Sad I don't have a lot to buy this time but I did have plans.

OP posts:
buttonmoon78 · 15/05/2011 16:59

But could it be something else Confuddled? I'm used to getting sciatica, but normall from the butt down the back of my thighs. This starts right in my groin - underneath, if you like - and goes down the inside of my thighs. I assumed it was more in the spd-pgp family but didn't think of sciatica cos I get that elsewhere!

Is hurting again now so I think I really did overdo it yesterday. Hoping for a quiet couple of days to recuperate!

The only birthday between now and D Day is mine Grin. Have booked a night out with some friends for a meal so my organisation is pretty limited birthday-wise.

Christmas78 · 15/05/2011 18:09

Confuddled I'd like to join the fb group! How do I go about it?

I have come down with the weirdest illness thing - the whole left hand side of my head hurts - headache, sore throat, really sore ear, sore neck and slightly numb mouth as if a dental injection was wearing off. Plus I think it's giving me a bit of a fever / feeling sick. Should I be worried about the baby? I don't know how much it all links up and the baby is moving fine.

Another question - dh and I have been invited to a wedding in Italy by really close friends two months after my due date. Anyone know whether I'll be feeling like travelling two months after having the baby or should we just say no?

confuddledDOTcom · 15/05/2011 18:49

I think it's all just part of falling apart at the seams Grin

Christmas78 Join up there and drop me a message with your real name so I know who you are.

I don't think it would be related, but you do need to look after yourself more when you're pregnant, if it's still the same tomorrow get it looked at. Any chance you've laid awkwardly on it?

Two months after the baby you may feel better, it's past six weeks so you'll probably be in a routine. It's hard to say for sure, really.

OP posts:
buttonmoon78 · 15/05/2011 19:17

Oh yeah - we're all falling apart at the seams Wink

Am having a happy evening - putting lots of dds' 'good' clothes on ebay to make some space and watching Dirty Dancing. Can only be improved by chocolate or Ben and Jerry's...
