Random post from me tonight...just found this when was looking up birth videos!??! How this child will manage I don't know.

Sorry for the trashy read mind ;)

Stangirl · 11/05/2011 04:59

With all this talk of weight gain I've just weighed myself - over 2 stone gain! Oh well - I lost all of it last time plus another half a stone and was back within my BMI for the first time in years so I'm hoping my knackered old body will pull the same trick this time. It's all my own fault - I use the excuse of pregnancy to eat everything and as much as I like. Cake every day and shedloads of cheese. Awesome.

inbetweener · 11/05/2011 10:10

Hello all,
Havent been on for a while again as its been manic at home. It was DD1s holy communion on saturdya so I have been doing all the prep for that. It was exhausting but went well and I think we entertained everyone ok ! I will NOT be doing dd2's at home !! The mess I cleared up on sunday was horrific ! I was finding cake and glasses in places you wouldnt believe !!

I've been reading all your posts and I cant believe how often you are all being monitored Sad. Im 30 weeks today, I last had a check at my 28 week one and wont be seen again till im 36 !!!!!!!!! That just seems so long ?? What if my baby is breech or transverse or my FH isnt growing ? Im not sure what to do. Maybe as its baby number 3 I should just get on with it but it does worry me slightly ......

Twit · 11/05/2011 13:35

inbetweener I have been surprised at how many appointments I've had, I normally skipped until 34 weeks after the 28 week one. Actually thinking on it maybe it's 'cos I am old and have bad PGP this time?

Confuddled thank you for your help, I know you're busy and have Stuff Going On. I had a closer look at the Doula and it seems she was a trainee MW before deciding to become a doula, it says she is a trainee ante-natal doula rather than a trainee birth doula as well. I suspect she would be pretty expensive and booked up but I might have a chat with DH and see if I can find out some more.
I hope you're doing ok, when are you hoping to get to if you could choose - at best? Do you think you might get to 34 or even 36 weeks?

Ok so today I have done lots of washing and tidied, cleaned the downstairs bog AND made a cake. HMMMMMM.

I hope I didn't worry anyone yesterday WRT stomach muscles, I should have said theoretically they shouldn't look like a tent/rugby ball. Be careful getting up because if you try to use them now they have split that much you will make it worse (this is why crunches etc are a no-no until you have brought them back together).
ok so some are an extreme case but...

Twit · 11/05/2011 13:52

Ok so having read that thread it is very extreme and I'm sure you won't be like that.
I will give up trying to be helpful 'cos I'm not doing very well Grin

cara2244 · 11/05/2011 21:01

Hi ladies
Have got a voucher for a pregnancy spa day to do with my mum but I'm running out of time to fit it in. Would you do it at 36 weeks? The spa isn't too far from home and is round the corner from my mum's. I guess my main worry is if the baby comes early and I have to cancel and lose my money!

cara2244 · 11/05/2011 21:05

inbetweener I went a couple of weeks ago and next one isn't until 34. I have been having a poke and I think baby is head down, bum at front. I feel the hiccups very low and the feet in the side ribs, which is exactly the same as my son weirdly. Try not to worry I guess. At 36 weeks you MW should be able to feel where the baby is. have you had any problems this pg? Well, apart from all the aches and pains etc which are classed normal! I feel like I've had a horrendous pregnancy from the viewpoint of feeling like rubbish all the time with various things, but none of it has been dangerous to the baby.

cara2244 · 11/05/2011 21:07

PS: my only contact with the weighing scales this pregnancy was to clean them when I was spring cleaning (hmmm....first proper clean it's had since I nested just before my son was born....dec 2008). I daren't. I don't want to know!

Scottygirl10 · 11/05/2011 22:35

Evening all, sorry to rant and run but I felt the need to explode on here instead of an irrational wobbly at dh...he goes out for the evening, 'need anything?' Says he on way out door.'Yes please, some Gaviscon' I reply...needles to say no Gaviscon walked back through the door with him. What's the bloody point of asking if I need anything??!!! Grrr. Men.

confuddledDOTcom · 11/05/2011 23:50

Fraochsmum, at transition the contractions slow down, almost stop. You gain clarity (labour is mostly, unless you're messed with, done with you hidden in your head) and often get scared (gives you an adrenalin kick which you need for the delivery). Keeping off your back is a good idea, otherwise you have to push the baby up hill! On your knees over the headboard is a good position, quite a common one too.

JimmyChoo17, that reminds me of the girls in the states who share a body, they're totally amazing!

Feeling good about the weight gain, last time I was weighed it was about 3 or 5kg, so not even a stone but then I didn't exactly start out skinny Blush

inbetweener, that level of monitoring sounds perfectly normal for a healthy pregnancy, are you seeing the CMW in the meantime? It doesn't matter if baby is breech - at all! They can turn any time and even in labour, so knowing before then doesn't change anything. Your CMW should be doing your fundal height for you, but if you're worried about anything call her or antenatal. If anything was going to show up in all likelihood it already would have either shown up or shown markers - they knew my baby was at risk of IUGR from the 24 week scan.

Twit, I'm virtually housebound so this is a nice bit of escapism at the moment Smile The trainee will be either or both an antenatal Doula or a postnatal Doula, antenatals cover birth. She will be £200, she's not allowed to charge more than that. From what I can tell trainees don't normally go into Doulaing completely fresh. Coming from midwifery is quite common because a lot of people who say they want to be a midwife find that it's actually not what they thought it was and Doulaing is closer to what they had in mind. Others just got really interested in the whole baby/ pregnancy/ birth thing and ended up wanting to do something related. I'm not expecting to get past 33 weeks, if I can get to 32/33 weeks she will have a suckle reflex so I'm hoping to get past this week at least. I also want to have my SoM appointment on Monday so got to get past that!

Been talking to my Doula today and we're a little concerned about the SoM appointment. I had my suspicions before but this is a first for me so I wasn't sure. Basically my consultant is going to be there too - although I think it's actually that the SoM will be at my consultant appointment. I wasn't sure if that was normal and was wondering how I could talk openly and honestly to the SoM with her there, but as I said I've never done it before. Doula is concerned that the consultant will try to persuade me against a VBAC and will even pull out the scare tactics. Between us we don't care, we've read that stats, the RCOG guidelines etc and we know this isn't a big deal. The problem is going to be OH who will be easier led than us and I expect the consultant will shoot this at him - I'm only risking myself but he has to protect both of us, IYSWIM. Added to that that this is his 7th pregnancy and only 1/6 hasn't been a negative experience so he's going to be wanting to avoid that so they're going to find a very easy man to push around! She's asked me to make a list of why I want to VBAC to help OH to understand and for my appointment. I was sobbing earlier typing it out Blush still got to show him.

Twit · 12/05/2011 10:46

Aw I hope you both manage to stay strong, it can't be easy though and I admire you for wanting to stick to your guns, I don't know how I'd react.
Am now looking at water births. I dunno it passes the time.

Fraochsmum · 12/05/2011 11:12

Sorry to hear you were upset confuddled :( Can they say that you're not allowed to have a VBAC? What is SoM? Hope all goes well with it xxx
Thanks for the transition info btw! I hadn't noticed that stage last time as it must have happened when I was in the bath - I became aware of pressure on my bum and said to mum when she came in, so hopefully I will be in hospital before that stage in case I get the want to push.
I feel your pain scotty, that is so annoying!
I would just go cara it will feel amazing! I had an all-over massage at 33 weeks and it was just brilliant.
I'm starting to get a little preoccupied with the breech thing too inbetweener. My shoulder is hurting from lying on the same side in bed, but when I turn over my tummy feels very uncomfy in that position. I also can't get a minute to myself on the birthing ball - either DD wants to come on as well or I get pestered silly by one of the dogs (really not sure what she gets so excited about) wanting patted. DH says she is just sympathising with how I feel at the moment - thankfully he hasn't mentioned in this pregnancy how she managed to have 11 pups no bother Wink

sues1974 · 12/05/2011 13:10

hi ladies, im currently off work poorly, quite annoyed as i was hoping to go the whole pregnancy without taking time off ill and with only 4 weeks left at work was nearly there but got a horrible chest infection. i think ive pulled a stomach muscle as it really hurts when i cough and at night time i leak (wee although there was that much the other night i thought my waters were trickling out Shock) sorry if TMI. i swear i thought i was going to cough the baby out last night after i had a 90 minute coughing fit. for the 4th night in a row i only had a couple of hours sleep. its also hurting my ligaments in my right hand side which hurts enough without all the coughing.
On a brighter note the baby scan i had on monday went well and the amniotic fluid is back down to a normal level. bubs now weighs 3lb 8oz - not bad for 30 weeks, based on that i reckon he will be between 6 and 6.5lbs when born at 38 weeks. really struggling with names though - thought finding out the sex would make it easier but its so hard picking a name that will grow with the baby and suit him throughout life.
Any one else struggling with names or that would like to suggest a name for my little man? Our surname is Bannister - so quite long and our toddler is called jack william.
suz xx
ps scotygirl know where youre coming from - my hubby went out to the supermarket and didnt even say bye but would also do that - ask as hes closing the door - men eh!

confuddledDOTcom · 12/05/2011 14:01

Because I have an inverse T scar it's got a higher risk of rupture, it's something like 1.7% risk which as I keep pointing out is the same risk as contraception failure and despite OH having conceived twice on contraception he's not abstaining! Technically it is my choice but they pitch it as though there's no choice to be made.

SoM is Supervisor of Midwives. It's not a supervisor in the usual sense of being a boss, it's an experienced MW who has done extra training and they're there to help mothers and MWs who have a problem, you can go and discuss things with them and they can help make a plan for your care. They're a brilliant resource when you're coming against doctors - I sent a previous client to one when she was told she couldn't have her third home birth (no hospital and no complications in any of the three) and the SoM just said no reason why not and got the home birth pack delivered to her. Normally you do it one to one so we're surprised that it's been done with the consultant there as it could affect the way things go.

Anyone who is worried about breech look for the Spinning Babies website it gives tips on turning and keeping a baby turned.

Just had a bath for the first time in ages (usually have to go to Mum's to shower a couple of times a week when we're at home as it's too hard to get in and out) which was lovely, I love a bath. For some reason it really woke Peppa up and she was wriggling all over the place! Still think she's head down though, it seems to be lots of limbs moving quite high up and to the left. Hoping for her to be head down on Monday.

Fab123 · 12/05/2011 17:24

Oooh no Twit, thankfully I don't think I have that. Ouch!

I've jus read everyone's threads, made a cuppa and then promptly forgotten what I was going to write... Blush

My friend and I bought some wipes and disposables today in town with various vouchers. I can confirm that Wilkinson's is cheapest for Huggies wipes (natural) at 89p Grin I've got 6 of them in advance. Anything more was not going to make the 1.7mile trip home once I added the cat food and shampoo! She's stingy good with money like me, so it's nice to have someone similar to be preggers with, hunting down bargains!

I'm still finding myself waking up on my back. It doesn't hurt and if anything she seems to sleep better like that than when I'm turning from side to side (I have images of her in there going "Awwww, muuuuum! I just got comfy! Why did you roll over?!"). Have realised I'm almost always skipping dinner now, which is probably really bad, but other than the terrible heartburn if I eat after 7pm, I'm just really not hungry. I had a bowl of strawberries, an apple and a babybell last night after a lunch of mackrel on toast and spinach on the side (brekkie was 2 slices of toast with marmite). Is this really bad? I do occassionaly have a cupcake or Maoms too (seems I can't ignore the sugary delights!) and am hoping that adds some extra calories?

Great to hear from you Confuddled :) Fingers crossed many more weeks on the cards for you!

Oh yes, I was going to ask if anyone has music they will be birthing to? As I'm in for a water birth (luck permitting) and the room is pretty dark and calm I wanted to have some music as welll. I'm not into dolphins or waves or any of that (more like The Kinks, 60's and XX tbh!) and was thinking of doing a playlist on Spotify. Not sure if Salt & Pepper's "Push It" would drive me nuts at the time though or if i'd still find it amusing... Any suggestions?

Stangirl · 12/05/2011 20:22

fab last time I had a CD to listen to in the operating theatre - my favourite track is Halcyon by Orbital. In fact I toying with calling my upcoming DS "Halcyon" - to be known as "Hal".

confuddledDOTcom · 12/05/2011 21:14

Fab, if you're comfortable on your back sleep on it. You're not going to do any harm without it hurting first and it's yourself that sleeping positions will affect, not the baby.

Bit of random news, just noticed wet spots on my top, so looks like my milk is back. I've been told there isn't anything there for awhile so nice to know it's back now, although not sure if it's to do with how much longer I have to go.

Was wondering if anyone else had noticed they smell of milk? I've been noticing it for about a week. I keep smelling it lol I love the smell of milk when you have a newborn that hangs on you and the baby...

OP posts:
JimmyChoo17 · 12/05/2011 21:34

fab I can't stay on my left hand side and find myself on my back....I usually wake up feeling ill tho :(

I'm better on sleeping on my right hand side but I am now finding my bump is REALLY sore when laying on side...maybe the tug of weight? Sleeping wedged on pillows doesn't help as baby kicks away at my sides as if uncomfy! can't win....if I move my legs in sleep cramp sets in.

Im31weeks saturday...am presuming this will get worse ladies?

Had really uncomfortable day today too not sure if just how baby is laid with back to my belly...I felt I was going to explode or rip in half! (can u tell I am feeling sorry for myself today!)

Anyone start drinking raspberry leaf tea at all? wondering how it strengthens the uterus????

Fab123 · 12/05/2011 22:16

Jimmy I thought Raspberry Leaf Tea was to induce rather than strengthen the uterus? I know you are fed up, but isn't it a little early for that Wink?

Right. I have a 2hr long playlist for the birth now and feel a little more organised.

Little quandry at this end: I have a couple coming to stay with their 10 month old boy in a couple of weeks. I don't want to sound ungrateful as they think they will be "helping" but tbh the thought of it is already making me anxious. I've had to move the spare room to the attic which is directly above me. So I worry about the noise. Plus she has FM and I don't like the idea of her struggling up and down the stairs to the loo (I know she goes usually 2 times each night). Plus the bed is victorian and not very comfy for someone with FM. Last time they came she ran out of wipes and I ended up giving her my first pack that I had bought for my baby...I know that sounds terrible, but I think the whole idea is seeming a bit silly really. She doesn't do cleaning (hires her own cleaner at home) and her hubby eats like a horse 4 times a day. I'm petrified they will bankrupt me just weeks before the birth and I'll loose sleep and end up having to clean the whole week before and after just to feel normal again.

That probably sounds like i'm mahousively over reacting! Maybe I'm being a bit hormonal. No idea what they plan to do to "help" though :(

JimmyChoo17 · 12/05/2011 23:01

Ha ha! :) I am uncomfortable but not that uncomfortable! I got sent something in the post nd spotted a thread on here.....i always thought it was to induce birth....but the info actually says you strengthen your uterus.....????? How does tea do that? can i put it on my buttocks in that case? Grin

Laying in my nest of 7 pillows.... baby feels like it's burrowing out. Anyone else got a sore bump? Is that normal?

Fab...why is she coming in the first place? Can you politely say you are feeling a little too tired and would appreciate some you time instead? But would like to rearrange but not set a date just yet? Sounds a little stressful! What is FM?

I told my visiting mother that I had put nursery in big spare room so she would need alternate sleeping arrangements....slight flaw in plan she is coming down sooner and wants to see the baby's room and will see! Whoops! My mum stresses me out big time so I just said look, it's too much so late on I need you to book a hotel or stay with sister for once. Went down well....not....but she is too much to handle.

Fab123 · 12/05/2011 23:18

Yeah mine's sore a bit below the bra strap - sometimes feels like cramp :(

She's coming because the last time we properly spoke was in the 2nd Trimester (when I had loads of energy) and Fucktard was being, well, a fucktard. So it seemed like a good idea at the time. Tbh I thought they'd only come for a day trip as she never liked staying over when it was just the two of them, let alone with a baby! I wonder if I can convince them to do that instead. It's the bank hol weekend and I worry they'll want to be here 3 nights ya see? I'll try calling her tomorrow about it I think. It's her birthday this week so I have to be very careful how I phrase it. It's really in her best interests though as I very much doubt she'll be happy up there and I don't think she realises where they will be sleeping, with all of the steps!

Just sucked 2 oranged cut into quaters and thinking i'll be regretting that one soon with the heart burn. They tasted sooo goooood [grn]

inbetweener · 13/05/2011 10:14

Morning all,

Hmm the sleeping thing !! I cant sleep on my back AT ALL at the moment and after my stomach ( which is clearly out ) its my favourite sleeping position but it makes me feel so sick ! Its the same if I slouch down low on the sofa too, within minutes I feel very weird and dizzy and then sick its horrible. So i am stuck sleeping on my left side with a pillow wedged between my legs. Trouble is I wake up with my hips hurting such a lot, so i move to my right hand side and then wake up with the hips hurting there too. Thats pretty much how I spend my night, just turning from one side of the bed to the other. My poor DH !!

Thanks for the info re the MW appts. I guess you are right that if the baby is breech there isnt anything they would do before 36 weeks anyway. I might book myself a GP appt around the 34 week mark just to get my blood pressure done etc.

Well after today I have 6 weeks left at work !!!!!!!! I cant believe it, not that I am counting down much !! I am just starting get really uncomft in the bump dept now lol. I am feeling lots of "digging" and poking sensations round my sides and when I poke back they def feel hand or foor like, its quite weird but nice Grin

Im so relieved to be 30 weeks but must admit I cant wait for the next ten weeks to go fast !!

Fraochsmum · 13/05/2011 10:38

I can better that Fab - Huggies buy 1 get 2 free in the Co-op i.e. £2.54 for 3 packs!
That's a bummer about your friends tho, do you think they might be a bit better this time? I know I was surprised in a good way when my mum, stepdad, and dog all came to stay when I was due DD. I must admit I was in the horrors at the thought of them being here for over a week (SD is a total stresshead and kept having baths and I thought he might use all the water!). However, if mum hadn't sent me to hospital God knows how much longer I would have spent in the bath fully dilated, and she was fantastic help with the newborn. We even called the baby the same name as the dog Grin Grin
Jimmy I took raspberry leaf tea in pg1, but I don't think you are supposed to take it before 36 wks? I certainly plan to take it again this time, not sure if it helped, but things went really well so I'll give it a shot!
I don't smell of milk confuddled, but did leak from one on holiday about 6 weeks ago and have noticed some residue from the other for some time now. Thanks for the website info btw.

buttonmoon78 · 13/05/2011 11:34

No smell of milk here either but a little crustiness in my bra each day (sorry - TMI)!

Bump is def uncomfortable now. Baby digs hands around my ribs, knees against my support belt, feet trying to come out down below! DH came home last night for first time in a week, felt where the top was and said 'no wonder you're gasping for breath all the time'! And this is only at 29 wks!

Fab I'd just tactfully say you either need to cancel or curtail it to a day visit. Explain that you're really shattered and not sleeping well therefore don't want to disturb them or their baby when you have to get up at night and watch tv, put music on, have a 2am bath etc. Her kid's young enough to remember the joys of late pg after all!

Am v cross as I was ll set to go the the physio this morning (nice pants on and everything!) and had a phone call at 8.15 to say that physio's called in sick, next appt they have is same time next Friday! I know she can't help being ill but it makes a difference when you're not feeling good doesn't it?

Am feeling a little better re heartburn. I'm being v antisocial and eating my main meal at lunch time and then having something light (like cous cous & salad) at about 5pm, then having a bowl of cereal before bed. Last night I didn't wake up once with h/b.

Inbetweener sounds like a plan to make an appt with the GP. They can easily do bp and urine for you. Would probably enjoy doing a full appt - one of mine is always moaning that after the initial appt v early on he never get's to do any ante natal checks, so if you see him for anything he does a full check for his own 'entertainment', even if you've only just had one with MW! He's lovely, I always ask for him.

morning Ladies,
if youre eating or feeling iffy dont read on TMI alert!!
This morning i dropped my little boy off at nursery then went shopping at morrisons. had to nip to the loo and when i did i noticed some sort of strange discharge, it was difficult to see under the untraviolet light so i rushed home panicking that my muscus plug had gone and that i might go into early labour. now im home i can see its more like chewing gum than mucas with a green tinge to it - do you think this could be an infection? im currently taking antibiotics because of my chest infection so also wondering if its thrush caused by them, im a bit itchy on the outside but not on the inside. i havnt got a midwife as such - well theres one at my local GP's who i saw at 16 weeks but havnt seen since with being under consultant led care, but im wondering if i should try speak to her (shes a bit of a dragon) or just wait and see if it clears up?
Although its my 2nd baby i never lost the mucas plug with my first as had an elective CS, but looking at a picture on google it isnt that i dont think.
Can anyone offer any reassuance?
suz xx
