Fingers and legs crossed for you, Bluetinkerbell :)

knittymum · 01/04/2011 13:11

Hi,

I've not been here for a couple of weeks as I've been getting really stressed out about the whole thing. I've still got another week and a half to wait until my scan and am working hard to convince myself that everything's probably fine. I've not had many symptoms at all, other than being really tired, but then I've not been sleeping well so that could explain that. Really wish that I wasn't such a worrier!

Hope you're all doing well. :)

P.S. I've also been feeling unreasonably cross that my SIL had her scan at 10 weeks in the same hospital just a few weeks ago, but I've got to wait until 12. Doesn't seem fair having the two weeks extra wait! Perhaps that's a good sign of fluctuating hormones! Although I was cross when I heard that my local midwife only does one booking in appointment each week - that was the reason I didn't get in at 10 weeks. What if there was a surge of babies in my part of the city all at once?? Grrr! Also, I think I'd feel better if I'd seen anyone already, rather than local policy being that you don't see anyone until your combined scan and booking appointment.

Sorry for the whinge! It's just so different from when I had my other children.

mpops · 01/04/2011 13:30

Bluetinkerbell, hope it all goes well at the scan. I'm sure it will, fingers crossed for you!

TMI alert: had some brown bleeding when wiping last night and again today (every time I've been to the loo). Rang the mw who said to ring the hospital who said to go in on Monday morning for a scan. I wish it hadn't happened on a Friday, I'm so worried. It's not red or anything and not in my urine but it still terrifying to see. Hopefully it's just old blood.

Being pregnant is so stressful!

Bluetinkerbell · 01/04/2011 13:55

oooh I know how you feel mpops I had some brown spotting earlier this week and red spotting yesterday

just got back from the hospital! everything is fine! There is 1 baby in there, but it seems I am less further along than I thought... thought I would be 12 weeks today, but scan shows I am 9+1 which makes the EDD 3rd of November.
Told the sonographer about the spotting and she didn't say anything about it, to which I assume it is perfectly normal, as she said everything looked fine.
We took DD who is 2.5 with us and she kindly said they advise not to take children with you. I said I did check with the MW and she had said it's fine. The sonographer told me it wasn't the MW's decision to make. DD behaved wonderfully as I had expected she would, sat on my DH's lap and looked at the screen. We won't be taking her to the 20 week scan though.

I am staying on this bus if that's ok, had so much support on here! Wink and when the baby decides to come early we will have another October baby... DD's birthday is 31/10.
I strongly recommend not to drink 1.5 pints of fluid, because my appointment ran late and I was almost bursting! Next time I think 1 pint will do Wink

mumtobee · 01/04/2011 15:02

Bluetinkerbell - What an amazing relief for you!! Great news!!

mpops · 01/04/2011 15:20

Yes, lovely news tinker. Hooray!

Bluetinkerbell · 01/04/2011 15:35

I know it's a bit early to get stressed about it, but well, better to be prepared well in advance than not to be prepared...

what would you do in the following situation: my DD's 3rd birthday will be on 31st of Oct. My parents and siblings live abroad and always have their half term the week of 1st of November. I know they would like to come over to visit for DD's birthday.
With my previous EDD of 14th of October, I thought that would be really nice, as then they could see the LO as well as s/he would be around 2 weeks old.
But now they have changed my EDD to 3rd of Nov and really don't know what to do. I don't want my family around then for DD's birthday as 1. I might be heavily pregnant and the baby can pop any time or 2. the baby comes slightly earlier and will only be a few days old. and I would like a home birth or a water birth in hospital with a 6 hour discharge Wink

Can I ask them not to come and visit?
With DD I gave birth in Belgium and stayed in hospital for 4 days, as that's how it goes there and they came and visited day after she was born all of them together in hospital... it was highly stressful as I was establishing breastfeeding and DH got panic attack because he felt claustrofobic in the room.
I just feel we can't manage with overnight visitors in those days, even when they would stay in a hotel or B&B.
sorry for the long post...

PenguinArmy · 01/04/2011 16:22

mpops I have been having the same, so despite the 12 week scan I still feel unsure about it. As you say the rational part of your brain says it's normal but it's natural to worry a bit about it

mpops · 01/04/2011 16:47

Have you been offered another scan Penguin? My 12-week scan was only last week and everything looked absolutely fine so I'm trying not to panic but I'm not going to pass on the chance to have another scan on Monday. I could really do with the reassurance. I honestly had no idea this whole thing would be so unrelentingly stressful.

PenguinArmy · 01/04/2011 16:52

No, but I didn't mention it either. I had had no bleeding for a couple of weeks, but then had some after the scan. I'll see how the next week or so goes.

Crawling · 01/04/2011 17:15

My parvo test came back clear Grin I was so worried about it.

Bluetinkerbell · 01/04/2011 17:30

Have red spotting again. Worse than yesterday. Going to Gp in 30 mins.

Bluetinkerbell · 01/04/2011 18:37

GP booked me another scan also on Monday morning mpops
hopefully all will be ok and I can enjoy it a bit more today.
I was so stressed and so tensed up because of an overfull bladder I didn't really enjoy it. was also a bit Shock by the EDD being pushed backwards. wish I had enjoyed it more, but well I will get another chance on Monday.
tomorrow I will have a quiet day away with DH and without DD and that will hopefully help me to relax.
take care all!

Crawling · 01/04/2011 19:16

Bluetinkerbell hope your scan goes well i am having mine Monday to I will be 14 weeks and I was worried as parvo causes second tri MC, I really hope it goes well. Also thought I would mention on my 6 week scan they were 2 hours late so I had a pee and straight after I was called and the sonographer said they can do it without they just have to press harder and a full bladder makes life easier for them, so drink a bit but not to the point where it is painfull.

Bumpsadaisie · 01/04/2011 19:20

Bluetinkerbell

Fingers crossed for you - a friend of mine here had her 12 week scan - all was fine, then started having red bleeding quite regularly at that point. She was v scared but it was all fine and she is 20 weeks plus now with no bleeding.

I've got my scans on monday (NHS dating scan) and tuesday (NT scan) so keeping everything crossed for those.

Engelsmeisje · 01/04/2011 20:58

Hope your scan on Monday goes well Bluetinkerbell.

I empathise with the problem of family coming from abroad. Am in the same situation.

My EDD is 18th October and my mum (over in the UK) works term time only, so she's likely to have the last week in October off and want to come over. While I would really like her to meet her first grandchild as soon as possible (am already sad that DPs parents will meet them first) I also know that I won't be able to cope with them staying with us so soon after the baby's arrived.

I'm going to make it clear that at this stage they won't be able to stay with us. But I don't think I can put them off coming altogether (otherwise we won't see them until Christmas) so I'm just going to have to be strict about how long they should come over (which is not working out well so far.....they asked to come and stay with us for a long weekend during the Easter holidays and now it turns out they're going to be with us for a week! ).

Must be strong!

Engelsmeisje · 01/04/2011 21:00

And regarding the whole full bladder thing, here (in the Netherlands) I was told that my bladder had to be EMPTY for my scan! And we still saw the little bean jumping around!

mumtobee · 01/04/2011 21:36

I had a scan with my first DC and my bladder was so full the sonographer made me half empty it!!

This time I just had a small bottle of water half an hour before the scan and it was fine, I thought I'd be sent out again to drink more, but as it was the scan was great and far more comfortable than previous ones!!

Penelope1980 · 01/04/2011 22:21

Last week my bladder was so full I could hardly walk, the person doing the scan said it was too full so I had to go an empty it. Wish I'd known and saved myself the pain!

Tinyeyes · 02/04/2011 09:33

Good luck all of you with the Monday scans - we had our yesterday and pleased to say it was all there and waving at us!

I had the same experience with the bladder - I'd drunk so much the sonographer had to ask me to go an empty it, but I was so nervous I couldn't despite being desperate to go! Will remember for the next one...

We've been put back slightly as well, 11+5 today so due on 17th October.

bluetinkerbell I have the same with family abroad, do you have anyone else nearby? I think we're going to ask my mum to come over so she can meet the baby when it's born but stay with other family for the first couple of weeks while DH is off, then have her stay with us for a week and then with MIL for a week so she can visit but not be with us all the time!

crawling what's a parvo test?

Crawling · 02/04/2011 11:00

Parvo is a virus (slapped cheek) which gives a 10% chance of second tri MC, a 30% risk of baby getting severe anemia or heart problems 3% risk of hydrops. My DS was diagnosed with it and as I was ill we thought I had also caught it. But most people are immune 80% I had no idea it was dangerous till my doctor started panicing. It is doing the rounds at the moment so being pg it is best to avoid someone who has caught it only saying this because my DS illness seemed so mild I barely took him to the doctors the rash comes and goes and I assumed it was a heat rash and if I had caught it and doctors not known it would have been very bad.

Bluetinkerbell · 02/04/2011 19:25

Hi all,
We had a relaxing quiet day at a monastery in the middle of nowhere today without DD. Was very nice. Came back home and walked to the ice cream van with DD and had bright red bleeding again... it seems that I really can't do any lifting or effort or it starts again...
I feel so helpless not being able to do anything to stop it and having to wait till Monday morning to now everything is ok and where the bleeding comes from.

About the family from abroad visiting, I guess I will just wait until they mention something about visiting and see where we go from there.
I can really do without stressing about anything as the smallest stressful situation or effort seem to be causing bleeding!

I am also going to ring the MW on Monday to tell her about the bleeding and hopefully she will want to see me way before 16 weeks, because tbh I can't really wait until then to hear our LO's heartbeat.
It's my 2nd pregnancy but I feel so much more insecure now because of the bleeding

dannid · 02/04/2011 20:53

bluetinkerbell I really hope everything is ok for u, try to rest up as much as possible this weekend, I know how hard that can b with another child to look after tho! This is my 2nd too, but for some reason I am worrying tons more this time round than last time, I think prob cause of the bleed i had at the beginning and cause I haven't felt good the whole way through where as I had the easiest pregnancy ever with ds1...looks like it's payback this time! X

Bluetinkerbell · 02/04/2011 21:02

thanks dannid it is indeed hard with another child running around.
my DH is taking good care of me though, he got us something nice to eat, put DD to bed and it trying to make me relax
tomorrow will be a day on the sofa and relaxing, really not doing anything necessary. sod the household Wink

dannid · 02/04/2011 21:08

Aw glad he is looking after u! Happy mothers day to everyone for tomorrow...hope u are all spoilt rotten!! Xxx
