apples I have mine next week when I will be 8+1. I booked mine at the GPs surgery when I went for my initial doctor's appointment. Can you ring them and make an appointment?

penelope I tend to wake up very parched in the night, am sipping water most of the day, but probably only getting through 2-3 litres or so.

apples82 · 02/03/2011 08:30

MW sent me a text to say she's got loads on and will be in touch but to be patient!!!

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 08:33

Had booking in appointment with doctor and nurse at 8 weeks. First midife appointment will be at 12 weeks! I didn't see a midwife till 15 weeks with DS - shortage in area!

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 08:36

oh and re: mornign sickness, i just discovered that sipping lucazade really helps me, wish i had found it in my first pregnancy. Started drinking it because of the bug i've had and bingo no more retching! Still feel sicky but no way near as bad.

elgoldenflower · 02/03/2011 08:36

Morning all,

apples my midwife appt is in 2 weeks when I'll be 7+6, I just phoned my surgery and they made the appt for me (saying it should be between 8-12 weeks) but my Gp doesn't want to see me before. I think everywhere's different.

I did call the duty GP (you can call them in the morning for advice here) the other day and they were helpful and reassuring.

Also been to surgery and had Seasonal flu (inc swine flu) jab.

Penelope try to get medical advice if you're concerned. I'm drinking more than usual and end up really thirsty in the night but only about 3 ltr.

apples82 · 02/03/2011 09:15

Maybe I'll give the docs surgery a ring to try and hurry it along a bit! Smile

seasaltbaby · 02/03/2011 09:17

Morning all,
Ive got my first appointment with midwife on 24th March when I'll be 9weeks ish, glad to have it sorted & something to look forward to. I'm just a bit worried about getting the time off work, I think you're allowed time off for ante natal appointments but I really don't want to tell my manager that soon. She is quite difficult women who gossips & will have a melt down when she finds out she's going to lose another member of the team. I've no annual leave left either, any suggestions?
Still no major symptoms apart from slightly tender boobs & feel v tired, especially after exercising, good excuse to take it easy!

eager We also had a long haul flight booked to Cuba in July but think we will have to cancel, doesn't seem v likely I could manage it then!

Sorry for long post, hope everyone has good day xx

emmazed · 02/03/2011 09:42

i haven't heard anything from the hospital yet (self referred over 2 weeks ago) and i am now 9+1. i will try and chase, as it seems to be getting quite late...

we have been invited to a wedding in Scotland the week of the EDD. i am in London so think it is unlikely we will be able to go. i really want to tell the bride to be as all the other London guests have booked their flights & hotels... only another 3 weeks and the secret will be out!

kateepie2 · 02/03/2011 09:59

seasaltbaby sounds like you will have to be ill that day? Can't see many other options if you don't want to tell your manager. I'm taking a half day of annual leave for mine, but hopefully won't have to take any more leave for antenatal stuff (except poss the scan).

xx

onadietcokebreak · 02/03/2011 10:25

Seasaltbaby.

What time is the appt? Can you shift it til late/early in working day and say you have a doctors appt.

Alternatively advise her over email and make it clear you want it kept confidential.

drivencrazy · 02/03/2011 10:33

Morning all will have a catch up in a few minutes... RL majorly caught up with me.

I'm now 6.5, have booking in appointment in a fortnight. I had to go for a blood test yesterday to check my immunity to chicken pox. DS has come down with them and i have never had them. I'm terrified something will happen to my baby.. i had a mc last year and i dont seam to have luck at the best of times. Sorry to offload on here had to get it down somewhere and i dont want anyone that knows in RL im pregnant to know how worried i am..

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 10:36

drivencrazy - i was in a silmilar position when pregnant with DS. Never had chicken pox to mine or my mum's knowledge. Had immunity checked and i was immune, its fairly common i believe.

Fingers crossed for you.

drivencrazy · 02/03/2011 10:45

All the HCP ive spoken to have said i probably will be immune to it. DB has never had it either so something in our blood lmao.
Thanks

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 10:47

Don't stop you worrying though does it! Seriously pregnancy is just one bit worry!

drivencrazy · 02/03/2011 10:50

no it doesn't. Ye it is.. im sure it will all be fine.. i should be convinced now with the amount of times ive said it to dp lol

bilblio · 02/03/2011 11:13

penelope I'm ridiculously thirsty too. I'm really bad for not drinking enough normally but I've been having to carry a bottle of juice around with me constantly. I've forgotten it today but have thankfully found a very large mug.

Feeling remarkably normal today. (Except for the thirst.) Which is of course worrying me. SIL had a miscarriage last year at about 9 weeks. She'd said all the way through she didn't feel pregnant.

It's probably just because I slept a lot yesterday. I'll feel happier in a fortnight when I've had my booking in appointment.

knittymum · 02/03/2011 11:36

I'd forgotten about the level of worry you carry around right from the start of your pregnancy. This will be DC3, and now it's on the way I can remember all the stressing out I did the last two times! Worrying about every niggle (or lack of niggle), too tired/not tired enough, too hungry/not getting enough vitamins etc etc! I just have to wait out the four to six weeks before my scan. I've not heard anything from a midwife yet, and haven't actually seen a doctor so it seems very unreal. I contacted the surgery week before last and they said I just needed to fill in a form which would get me in the system, then phone up at seven weeks to book myself in for my scan and hospital booking in appointment. I've already been given my A4 notes and been asked to fill in a few pages myself, including the bit about previous pregnancies. Has anyone else experienced this sort of 'self-service' attitude, or is it just in Cardiff??

emmazed · 02/03/2011 11:46

just phoned the hospital to check and i have an appointment next week! i can't believe it - apparently the letter was sent 2 weeks ago! i will see the m/w & have a dating scan. i will be 10+3 then - is this normal? i thought the scan was at 12 weeks? or is this something different?

i was totally concentrating on having it at 12 weeks (only 2 weeks 6 days to go etc) and am now a bit freaked out!

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 11:53

emmazed - dating scan can be between 10 -14 weeks, i had mine at 13+4 with DS (but Xmas was in the way!), how exciting! I'm hoping mine might be early to, have a huge party to go to when i'm 11 weeks and i would rather tell people, or else they will think i have just got fat!

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 02/03/2011 12:19

Hi all. Sorry I haven't been on this thread yet. Only 5+5 today so really early days and I don't want to tempt fate and all!! Due 28/10/11 (I think!). However, the good news (for all those going through their first pregnancy hell) is that so far, this pregnancy is about 100 times better than my last one (which was a bit of a shocker!). I was sick several times a day until 6 months and then remained very nauseous for the whole 9 months - which was nice! So far I have felt slightly sick which is alleviated by eating - a past time I enjoy muchly!

Don't worry too much about the dating scan emmazed. Mine was late in my first pregnancy because the hospital read the date of my last period wrong. They thought it was a week later than it actually was. That was their cock-up as it was right in my notes etc Confused.

knittymum - Hmm. My health clinic does all the hospital stuff for us! I would question that myself (but there again I am a lazy arse!). However, the midwives at your clinic should know what to do better than you so why aren't they doing it?

knittymum · 02/03/2011 12:24

HandDived - that's kind of what I was thinking. When I was having the other two, I had an appointment at about 7 weeks where the MW filled in the forms and booked the scans etc. Bloody NHS cutbacks!

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 02/03/2011 12:32

Yes that was how it went with my first one. Haven't been to the GPs yet for this one so I don't know if they have had "cuts" yet. But surely it only takes a phone call from them! And I don't remember filling out much in the notes either - the midwives did that for me too. I would book an appointment with the midwife and see what they have to say?

Tamashii · 02/03/2011 13:26

Congratulations HandDivedScallops ! Things seem to have changed a lot within the NHS since I had DS in 2008. Love your name btw, I LOVE hand dived scallops.

dribbleface LUCOZADE!!!! YES! That is the ONLY thing stopping me from being sick as a dog at the moment. I am drinking far too much of it though. It's tho only thing I can actually stomach just now. I have to force myself to eat or drink anything else.

dribbleface · 02/03/2011 13:31

Tamashii - i am sure all my teeth will fall out soon!

Just got my scan letter through, tis 24th March, will be 12+4. Guess at the party i will need to find something that hides my bulge!

dannid · 02/03/2011 14:17

dribbleface and Tamashii I craved Lucozade throughout my first pregnancy and at one point was drinkig on average a multipack of 6 bottles a day!!!! Shock My hubby was convinced that our DS was going to be really hyper because of it!

My sickness seems to be loads better this week....just feel slightly nauseous every now and then but it passes pretty quickly. my stomach is still massively bloated though and I have already had to start putting a stretchy hair band through the loop on my trousers to give me a couple of extra inches...I am sure I didn't gain weight this quickly with DS1?!

Have my booking appt with the midwife on 21st March...does anyone know if they will listen to the baby's heartbeat at this? My memory from my 1st pregnancy is terrible...all except the giving birth part that is!!
