dannid you shouldn't worry - as with all these things the risks are very low, but people have to be careful with the public, hence the signs. There are some organisms which can cause pregnant sheep to miscarry and these can be passed on to humans. However, the likelihood of you touching a miscarrying sheep is very very slight, and as you washed your hands you should be fine.

NHS says to report any flu-like illness or high temperature.

Nightmare trying to get out of bed this morning, I'm finding it really hard to get up - alarm goes off at 6am and I'm struggling to be up before 6.45. DP got short shrift this morning as he gave me a 'a miracle, she's up' look when I cam down. As he was reading till gone 11 (went to bed 10ish) he got a bit of a bollocking... then I attempted to eat breakfast, got a third of it down and promptly threw up when I went out to muck the chickens out. First time I have actually been sick, after 5 weeks of nausea.

Not feeling too clever at the moment - I have a meeting with my boss at 10 and worried I'll puke...

arabella36 · 01/03/2011 09:31

Hello everyone, I've been AWOL for a while and have been reading to catch up, October must be one of the most popular months for babies, there are so many of us?

I've had a nightmare couple of days with a vomiting and diarrhoea virus. It was absolutely awful. If you know anyone who gets it then my advice is Stay Away!! Am hoping it hasn't done anything to harm the baby. I'm 9+3 now. It's hard to know if I'm over the virus yet as I still feel sick but then it could just be morning sickness nowConfused

Hope everyone else is keeping well

sunface · 01/03/2011 09:45

thanks tamashii there was only one booklet on screening tests in my appointment letter. I'll give them a call today to double check it's the scan on that date too. When is your appt then? how exciting!!! It's so good that we now get 2 scans up here, about time too!

rebel i have been incredibly gassy and windy for the last month or so, to the point where my tummy is sore :( just another symptom i guess. Thankfully the nauseous feeling seems to have passed for now...... just got the incredibly sore (and very very large)boobs to contend with :)

mpops · 01/03/2011 10:21

Hello from me as well. Had a very mad real-life week. Hope everyone is doing OK in our ever-expanding bus.

Crawling · 01/03/2011 10:48

Has anyone else got thier maternity notes yet?

BabCNesbitt · 01/03/2011 11:08

I'm just wondering - what are maternity notes? I've had a couple of forms to fill in and take with me to my appointments, but no mention of notes so far.

Crawling · 01/03/2011 11:16

Mine is a file with infomation on feeding pain relief in labor and all my notes, blood tests, scans, birth at the back and when I need to see MW, what foods to avoid it has maternity record on the front and any notes are put in it.

mpops · 01/03/2011 11:23

Is that what you get once you've had your booking appointment? Mine is next Monday. I'm really nervous.

AliTheMinx · 01/03/2011 12:22

Yes - it's a massive file you need to take to all appointments which you are given at your booking appointment. I think it's officially the property of the NHS and eventually you have to give it back, but throughout your pregnancy you are in charge of looking after it.

It's HUGE! And I guess it will get bigger as the weeks go by.... Don't be scared - you'll be fine!

Tamashii · 01/03/2011 12:24

Totally agree sunface I still can't believe they took away the 20 week scan as a routine procedure when it involves checking for anomalies so great news that we will get it this time. My booking appt/scan is scheduled for 17 March. I am quite nervous about it. Haven't allowed myself to feel any kind of attachment yet just in case we get bad news so it will be a relief to have the scan and fingers crossed all with be normal. I hope to have a very boring, uneventful, textbook PG this time! :)

Feeling a bit better morning sickness-wise today. I think I am just getting used to feeling constantly nauseous at this stage (9wks) and the boobs are just tender all the time now rather than agony so just getting used to that too. Funny what you get used to isn't it? There's no other option tho :) It's a good thing of course so I am not complaining. I am just glad the constant sickness seems to have passed for now...

Hope everyone's having a good week and coping with everything.

Crawling · 01/03/2011 12:34

I forgot my notes in labor last time Blush everyone panicked because I was about to deliver and most MW would not touch me because they were not insured or something, one MW said she wasnt leaving me to deliver alone, she asked my partner questions and delivered my baby luckily everything was fine. Moral of the story dont forget your notes Grin

happymummytobe · 01/03/2011 12:39

Hello everyone,
Having smugly announced to DH yesterday that I thought I was over the MS, I have felt queasy ever since. Seems like yesterday morning was just a 10 minute blip in the queasiness! It's a bit like having flu I suppose - constantly feel sick, tired and achey. I'm 7+3 today (I think) and am looking forward to hitting the second trimester and (hopefully) experiencing an energy boost! But in a way I'm glad that it's all going slowly - it's giving me time to really take it all in. I'm having a baby - crikey! Not telling people is really, really hard isn't it?! xxx

mpops · 01/03/2011 12:42

Woh, didn't know anything about the notes. It sounds terrifying! No smartphone app, then, to save us forgetting? Grin

tamashii, I'm the same as you, just getting used to stuff. I'm 9 weeks as well and feel a bit nauseous most of the time and my boobs are tender all the time (apart from when they are not and I panic!)

I got to see a lot of friends last weekend and got loads of hugs which HURT! Hmm

dribbleface · 01/03/2011 15:32

Hi all,

Not caught up with all the posts yet, sorry.

I'm still ill with diarrhoea, but only once or twice a day, wondering if it is a bug or not, had it 5 days now. think i'm gonna ring doctors in a bit and ask to speak to the doctor. Don't want to make a fuss though. Sad

rebelwithoutababy · 01/03/2011 17:18

Oh poor you dribble: def call Dr - you are not making a fuss! (am medical myself and hate when patients think they can't ring!). Happymummy: we have same dates I think! Wink. Thanks sunface for the reassurance: glad it's not just me!!

bilblio · 01/03/2011 19:44

Oh dribble I'd definitely call the GP after 5 days. Even if it's just to put your mind at rest.

mpops Don't be nervous about the booking in appointment. It's just like a long medical but most of it is questions and the Midwife giving you lots of information about tests and what's going to happen.

My notes were just a cardboard folder with loads of leaflets in, and LATEX ALLERGY scrawled all over everything, and a pink A4 book that the midwives write in at each visit. The first is pink anyway, I think they change colour after your first baby.
You're also urged to keep them with you for the last few weeks just in case you go into labour and you're away. Mine spent the last 2 months sat on the passenger seat of the car. Get a half decent plastic wallet for them so you've got somewhere to keep all the bits of paper you'll be given.

I remember frantically trying to scan mine in when I was due a home visit and knew the midwife was going to discharge me, but I only got about 2 pages because the scanner was being stupid! Or maybe I was due to the 8 day old baby Hmm

I've just got home had a craving for chips and cheese pie (which I'd normally only eat if desperate) then fallen asleep on the settee while DH played Peppa pig games with DD. I got woken by DD putting a teddy in my arms and covering me with a blanket. Grin

Fleecy · 01/03/2011 21:29

Evening all! I had my booking appointment yesterday so I also now have my notes. Have been told I will be referred to a consultant this time to discuss my birth options as I had a third degree tear last time and DS was massive. I'm not sure what they'll say as they don'y routinely do sections for tears Hmm so we'll see.

I don't think I want a section anyway - I think the ideal would be a section for the birth but with the recovery of a straightforward vaginal delivery Grin

Anyone here had an elective?

kateepie2 · 02/03/2011 08:12

Morning ladies!

Just a quick query: has anyone managed a strategy for managing being sick first thing in the morning? It seems as soon as anything enters my stomach it wants to leave again pretty soon after! Any suggestions gratefully received Smile

Penelope1980 · 02/03/2011 08:17

I've heard eating dry crackers helps? For me though the only thing that really settles my stomach is sports water. But then, my morning sickness isn't that bad, just a general hungover/carsick feeling.

eagerbeagle · 02/03/2011 08:17

Hello ladies

Well the morning sickness has kicked in with a vengeance. It triggers off when I brush my teeth and I lost my breakfast 2 days running as a result. Told my manager and one colleague yesterday. I should be able to work from home more when I am feeling really bad which will help.

I am also supposed to be going to a wedding in Malaysia in August (will be nearly 7 months then) and its just not going to happen - long haul while heavily preggers with a 2yo DS . I think we will just have to fess up.

apples82 · 02/03/2011 08:21

For those who's had/know when their first MW meeting is, at what point was/is it? I'm 7+2 and haven't heard nowt yet about any form of date for anything Sad.

Penelope1980 · 02/03/2011 08:22

Another quick query - is anyone else really really thirsty? I am always thirsty, so much so that if I'm in a situation when I can't have water I feel really yuck and parched after about 30 mins. I reckon I'm drinking at least 5 litres of water a day, if not more. Is that usual or anyone else's experience? I can easily put away a couple of litres in 30 mins if I haven't had a drink for a bit. Are you lot thirsty too? Am getting a bit paranoid and gestational diabetes

Penelope1980 · 02/03/2011 08:24

apples82 mine was at 6 wks, but am not in the UK so the referal system is different here.

eager that's probably the best decision re Malaysia!
