I love that scan pic Boots. I think you're growing a funky dancing dude in there :o

Rocket I surprised myself with how much less I moved about than I planned to (that book - it is good, but I did make some choices that she disapproves of, and I stand by them). I didn't lay on my back though, I laid on my side, and then every so often myfriend and MrBoo encouraged me to get up on my knees leaning on the back of the bed. I think that's probably because I was induced you got strong contractions straight away - I didn't get the ones that prepare you a bit for what comes later, that people who have gone into labour naturally have described.

Oh I do think I'd love to be a midwife (I'm always hanging round in here). If I'm not diffed by my birthday I think I might apply.

HighPriestessBoo · 15/03/2011 11:03

I meant and got strong contractions straight way. Sentence fail.

owlbooty · 15/03/2011 11:16

Boo argh, now I have to buy this gorgeous item. Damnit, woman Grin

Also two things; 1: I am getting booted all over the shop today. I think Owlet is not keep on scan-prodding. 2: This morning the tiny bump went all tight and funny (but not painful and I only noticed cos I had my hand on it) then relaxed again. Twas v.weird. PESHlets, is this a branston hick do you think?

owlbooty · 15/03/2011 11:16

*Keen not keep. Am weary.

Medee · 15/03/2011 11:19

nice scan pic, Owlie!

Yes, no news here!

Scorpette · 15/03/2011 11:20

TYF won't watch OBEM. He hates any kind of medical tv show, real or fictional. He goes off to the spare room to make music. He's been brought up to be so prissy about anything to do with bodies Hmm (like MIL losing her temper because I said 'I'm just popping to the loo', as though I'd actually said 'Eeeeh, I'm touchin' cloth' - which my parents would laugh their heads off about if I said it to them). That young girl (Oakley?) had a wise head on her shoulders, but I could see things from her parents point of view.

Love that you've got your names sorted out, Orchid :) We've been calling The Lad by his real name since @ 22 wks - I nearly type it here sometimes by accident! We're just having the surname discussions now - we both want him to have both our surnames, but not double-barrelled. It's perfectly legal to have 2 surnames, but we worry it'll confuse people or sound a bit pretentious. TYF is just as feminist as me about kids not automatically getting their dad's surname. Yes, I realise we are overthinking it waaaay too much. Wink

What is it with everyone's boiler?! Sounds nightmarish. Can't believe the cost - not what you need at the best of times, never mind when there's a baybee on the way Sad

Lovely, cheeky scan pic, Boots!

HighPriestessBoo · 15/03/2011 11:31

That is very cute Boots and a snip too compared to Boden et al.

(Medee's - not my own)

owlbooty · 15/03/2011 11:32

That was the 12 week one; the ones from this scan are just a blur of over-excited Owlet giddying about all over the shop. At least it gave Mr Boots a laugh.

Scorps you are showing great restraint in the face of MIL adversity. Why are they all barking mad? I have to do a 4/5 hour journey to see ours this weekend; the thought is already making me want to stick pencils up my nostril in the hope they hit my brain.

HighPriestessBoo · 15/03/2011 11:34

Sorry Owlie just noticed your question - yes that tightening you described is a Braxton Hick.

AlpinePony · 15/03/2011 11:39

booty I've had some really nice stuff from Tesco and Asda believe it or not. I'm currently unable to shop for Bear as he's back in Glasgow with his dad and the two of them are collapsing under the weight of gifts/toys/new clothes for him. Anything I buy him has to be for 'this time next year'. Gah.

As for socks, I'll only buy them for 17 pounds a pair from an organic fair-trade, knitted by Norwegian yaks. After all, it is my PFB and I shit fivers.

I've just done something staid and grown-up. Signed up to one of those "insurance" companies - you know, 11 euros a month and when the boiler fucks up they come running with a little siren attached to their helmets and fix it. It was new in 2007 and the house was empty for 2 years, so finger's crossed. Although LadyG is right, the gym membership is always a back-up! When I was free and single it didn't bother me, I could always go to the gym or shower at work. But I'm not going without central-heating/hot water for the PFB.

AlpinePony · 15/03/2011 11:41

PS medee Aren't you bored yet? Munching through your food stash? Using the toilet roll/washing powder/dog food that was supposed to see you through 6 week's post-partum? Wink

Scorpette · 15/03/2011 11:42

Booty, I cope by realising that I just have to tolerate 2 super-concentrated weeks of IL hell a year, as we basically don't exist to them when we're not at their house, so is actually better than being driven mad by them on a lower level but much more frequently! I get annoyed because my parents are fab and TYF adores them and says how lucky he is re: PIL. My Mum's madness takes the form of cooking loads of delish food for everyone and being over-generous.

Good luck this weekend - I know that pencils-nostril feeling all too well. It's like travelling to your doom, innit?

Our big questions of the mo is, will his Gran acknowledge me if she sends a baby-congrats card? She never puts my name on Xmas cards, as we're not married Hmm, so will she actually get her pious head out of her arse for something this important?! If she doesn't, I will lose my fucking shit. It's bad enough that every one of his relatives (apart from BILs) spells my bloody name wrong, the thick twats.

Sorry. Little hormonal rant there.

Scorpette · 15/03/2011 11:46

Ooooh, I get weird bump tightenings all the time! Are they Braxton Hicks then? I thought they would be like mild period pains (which I am also getting, waah!).

HighPriestessBoo · 15/03/2011 11:48

Yes those small tightenings across the tummy. I only got them towards the end, and they weren't entirely pain free, I'd describe them as uncomfortable.

Scorpette · 15/03/2011 11:53

My tightenings make me go breathless whilst they last. I don't find them otherwise uncomfortable though. I can see my bump visibly going tighter then relaxing. Is v odd, in a funky way.

It's okay to start having BH ages before laying, then? Confused

rocketleaf · 15/03/2011 11:58

Actually, boo it has of course occurred to me that this (as in the book) is all in an ideal world and when you get knackered you will want to rest and lie down. And also the induction thing messes with the whole plan really doesn't it for the very reason that you describe, you get thrown in the deep end so to speak. Ah well, just have to roll with it.

booty some of the brighter tescos stuff it so very cute, I really like that hoody and some of the other Layette stuff. I think those are BHs yes, I don't think I have had any of those yet although some times bump does feel harder than at others so maybe I just can't feel them.

Well I am in a little grump. I needed to pop into town today so I was going to take TB out for cheap eats at lunch time. But all this talk of undercarriages made me decide to epilate down below while I can still see round the bump. Well I think I went at it a bit to gung ho as I have now got grazes (with ackshuwal bleeding) on my inner thighs. I am walking like John Wayne and so have had to cancel because the thought of walking round town in jeans in not appealing. Merp. And I have no one else to blame but myself! Wink

rocketleaf · 15/03/2011 12:00

score apparently you have them all through the pregnancy, you just cant feel them earlier, some people feel them as early as 16 weeks and some dont feel them at all!

Medee · 15/03/2011 12:37

I've hardly felt any BHs, but guessing that is what the twinges I am getting on and off now are as they don't turn into anything else.

I'm verging on it, Alpro; cleaning a cupboard as we speak (well, not literally as we speak.) Tried the pineapple, tried sex (again), and trying to keep moving, by bouncing on my ball and doing my yoga. Ach well, baby will come in its own sweet time.

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 15/03/2011 12:40

I never got any BHs or leaky boobs - but, as medee so rightfully points out - the baby is going to come out one way or the other. They don't stay in there just because you don't get x, y or z symptom!

medee Must be a cracking day for poking jelly-fish on Balmedie with a stick! Grin

Medee · 15/03/2011 12:44

it's pissing it down here, unfortunately, otherwise that sounds like a nice idea.

OP posts:
owlbooty · 15/03/2011 13:33

Yowch rocket Shock I've never dared epilate anything, it looks far too damn painful.

I wonder if the pilates yesterday set it off. I think I have overstretched pretty much every muscle I own. I would definitely not have noticed it at all had I not been lying on my back with one hand on my fat gut. Grin Am glad to hear it does not mean the baybee is planning on arriving shortly. That would suck mightily.

HighPriestessBoo · 15/03/2011 13:54

I?m glad about that Rocks. I think that I felt a bit under pressure to be mega active because of who I live next door to and who was assisting with miniboo?s birth ? both rockhard active labour chicks. I think it was really good for the friend that assisted to see what went on ? I think it was an eye opener for her and she could see how bloody helpful an epidural can be for some ? which can only be a good thing as she wants to be a doula one day. I just don?t want you to have any negative feelings ever never ever at all, 'cos I luffs you innit.

Ivegotmrbitey · 15/03/2011 14:06

Hello possums! Here is a soothing ice pack sprocket, a set of ear plugs for scorperina, a gentle tummy rub for owlie, a bath full of raspberry leaf tea for medee and kick up the bum for boo Grin We all know you were tweaking your own nipples!

I have a tummy full of butterflies about the scan, it isn't until 4.15 and am very glad I am going to aqua bumps in a bit to take my mind off it.

In fact, sorry to post and run - I am going now Smile

LadyGoneGaga · 15/03/2011 14:15

Oooh Bitey - thought was going to be you with news. Enjoy aqua stuff.

Baybee has spent the morning properly kicking me in the bladder. Was very ouchy and made me jump in an embarrassing fashion in meetings. Thnaksfuly has gone to sleep now.

BH are very normal and don't mean anything about impending labour. I haven't had any yet this time round. They make early labour a bit tricky to identify as you're not sure if you're having strong BH or mild cx. Give it a few more months and we'll be meticulously and obsessively analysisng mucus again to see if tehre is any show or plug in it. We need to get the old colour charts back out. Any show yet, Meds?

Medee · 15/03/2011 14:22

No show, LadyGG.
