I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one, as a few of you bought dopplers recently. I can't hold out any longer and have to have one after hearing the heartbeat the other day - it's addictive! Just wondered if anyone has had any particularly good / bad experiences with theirs, so I know which brand to go for? Thanks ladies.

KLou111 · 10/03/2011 13:33

Just been reading your post Yukana some bloody witches on there aren't there???? Just ignore them, but you DO need to sort your DP out to a point TBH. My DH sometimes stay up late cos he can't sleep cos of things on his mind with the business etc, but he forces himself to get up in the morning, as otherwise he would just get into that bed late, up late routine.
I fall asleep downstairs until DH wakes me to go to bed, as I HATE going to bed on my own, haven't done it for a long time (unless DH not around obviously.)

Sorry you're feeling a bit on edge MrsS, I really hope you can start enjoying your pregnancy a bit more with less worry, big hugs x

So sorry for your loss Leilandri :( hugs again x

So glad you got to hear the HB Betty, the best sound ever!!

Been listening to our little one of the doppler, best thing I ever bought :)
Not found things too expensive so far. It's just the nursery furniture and prams that seem the expensive bit, but once they're bought all should be pretty reasonable. My parents are buying the pram/pushchair/car seat etc, and DH parents are buying the cot, and my bro want to buy the moses basket (bless him) so we're doing pretty good so far :)
I'll be BF so there is a saving, and we'll use reusable nappies as we're at home every day so can put a wash on quite regularly. Will use disposables if go away though.

KLou111 · 10/03/2011 13:35

Angel sounds £25 for new one pink or green, on ebay from englishshop RugbyW*, best thing ever :)

RugbyWidow7 · 10/03/2011 13:58

Thanks Klou - think I'll get an Angel Sounds one then - seen one on Amazon reduced. Wink

RugbyWidow7 · 10/03/2011 14:22

Scrub that - it's the same price once they add on the VAT & Postage! grr

FeralGirlCambs · 10/03/2011 14:24

Belated welcome to charleigh - glad you followed my suggestion to join this! And you have the same due date as me (also my first)

Has anyone had the 20 week scan yet? I guess it'd be a bit early if so - I have mine next Thursday and I'll be 20+1 then. Getting very excited - but also a bit nervous - am feeling sort of fidgeting movements and occasionally something stronger but not feeling or looking pg - what if it's not there any more?!

Poor Yukana. It's a problem with internet chat - people would never be that horrid in real life so they should think about the effect it'll have when done remotely.

KLou111 · 10/03/2011 14:40

Got mine in 12 days Feral not that I'm counting down or anything :)

Lol Rugby! Very quick delivery off ebay, was here within 2 days (only cos I ordered it late one afternoon otherwise think it would have come next day)

Teladi · 10/03/2011 15:31

On the subject of saving money, if anyone else does not have maternity clothes yet and is not fussy about second-hand, I discovered 'maternity bundles' on eBay where people basically sell off their entire maternity wardrobe. I bought one yesterday and it worked out at £4 per item, including some lovely looking worn-once Seraphine and Formes items which are v expensive new. Even if it doesn't all fit, it will still be a good deal for the things that do get worn. Of course as always with eBay, the postings vary in quality so you need to choose carefully and you can't return it, but I am reasonably confident that what I have bought should work OK for me. After my unsuccessful experience attempting to shop on the high street (and I live in a city) I would have to shop online anyway.

expectantbean · 10/03/2011 16:39

Hello,

I've been following your news and enjoying hearing about all your heart beats etc. I hope you don't mind me joining? I'm 35 and expecting my first on 1st August.

We had our anom scan on Tuesday which all went well - phew Grin. I caught some bug the same day that was like food poisoning so that knocked the grin off my face! Getting my strength back now so all well.

My DH wants the sex to be a surprise so another 21 weeks in suspense...

Take care everyone and I look forward to reading more of your lovely news.

MrsVidic · 10/03/2011 17:21

I second ikea for furniture, high chairs and sleeping bags!

expectantbean welcome! Were all a friendly bunch here!

wishwales · 10/03/2011 17:29

Hello ladies. I am confused about my anomaly scan and my 28 wk scan (due to consultant-led birth). For some reason, the anomaly scan isn't scheduled until I am 21+3 - is this too late? I am dying to find out that all is well. And then regarding the 28 wk growth scan, it has not been scheduled yet and I am not due to see the drs again until I am 28+4. How do I get that scheduled?

Oh, and how do you know if you are enrolled or will be enrolled in NHS ante-natal classes?

I have only been living in the UK for a year and feel confused about the procedures, etc.

Thanks!

daisysair · 10/03/2011 18:52

who was it that mentioned baby hammocks??? You're to blame for me deciding to get one!!! Grin

wishwales I don't think there is such as thing as too late for the 20 week scan. I'll be almost 21 when mine is booked and it comes down to when there are slots available. if it bothers you, it might be worth phoning up the number on your appointment letter and see if you can change it?

as for ante-natal classes in my area apparently the midwife will write to me at 28 weeks to let me know about NHS ante-natal classes. You could check with a midwife if they run NHS classes in your area again by phone tho'.

KLou111 · 10/03/2011 18:52

Welcome and congrats expectantbean :)

Don't worry wishwales anomaly scans are 20-22 weeks so you're fine. :) I'd ask your MW about your enrollment for classes, mine is going to go through it all at my 24 week appt

KTisPG · 10/03/2011 19:01

Welcome expectantbean

Wishwales your anomaly scan is probably a little late because they might not have had appointments available in your twentyth week - I will be 21 + 4 on mine and I'm guessing they will schedule your 28 week scan when you go to your anomany scan.

Regarding NHS antenatal classes, it depends on the area you live in, what is offered, so do check with your midwife, but I didn't have mine until around 35 weeks

OP posts:
Firawla · 10/03/2011 19:13

wishwales i would mention to your midwife that you are interested in doing the antenatal classes then they should tell you how to book in, or put your name down for you

& welcome expectant bean

Leilandri · 10/03/2011 23:03

Thanks for all your kind messages ladies, means alot :)

I've had FAB news today! Went to see consultant due to BMI and emcs last birth, and he couldn't find heartbeat on doppler. Was offered a scan, which of course I jumped at, and found Baby2 alive and well, and also found out that we are expecting a BOY
so my DS will have a little brother with just over 2 years between them Grin
Was lovely and unexpected as is still over 3 weeks till my anomaly scan when we hoped to find out, and DH was with me today and couldn't come to 12 week scan, so he got to see baby too Grin

Leilandri · 10/03/2011 23:27

Oh and I also know that my lovely new son will be born on 8th August, by c-section. How FAB!!! Grin

Yukana I read your AIBU post and following comments, and some of those people were just beastly. Try not to let it get to you, some people just have their own heads up their arses. I would suggest more cuddle time to DP tho, cuddles are alwasy nice, and soon enough he'll be able to feel baby moving too, so all the more reason for cuddles Wink

MrsS I really hope you manage to relax a little, and enjoy the pregnancy. I felt so awful when they couldn't find heartbeat today, I can't imagine having that much worry everyday - hugs to you.

MrsVidic · 11/03/2011 06:42

leiandri how lovely to see your boy and have a cement due date! It's one thing I am v jealous of, as I have a tendency to over cook my babies!

I'm led awake in bed being kicked by baby! It's quite nice as Dp is getting ready for work and dd is still asleep so bump and I get some time together!

I was at the gps yesterday for my dd and felt a bit shaky so got him to do my bp 58/95 or something, it's dropped again is usually 60/100 in preg this time and 65/110 usually. Any tips on raising it, I had a chippy last night thinking the salt would help but gave Dp my chips as the grease was making me feel ill!

yukana when preg I go to bed early so my dp 'puts me to bed' when i want to go and we have cuddles then. He then returns downstairs as he can't get to sleep at 8 like I can!

Yukana · 11/03/2011 09:04

Thank you for the suggestions and kind words everyone, I'll just not post in AIBU anymore, just be a lurker instead. :) I'll stick to the more friendly forums.
I've tried to talk with DP about it and he went to bed earlier with me last night (1am, though. - Raised eyebrow there.) so hopefully he'll do it more often.

I'm jealous of the people who know the gender already! I'm so excited I've been counting down the days, it's on the 21st.

MrsVid I have low blood pressure too, I guess I just try to get lots of carbs, and a decent amount of sugar during the day? I have no clue about this though, so I'm not very helpful!

Hersetta · 11/03/2011 09:04

Congrats Leilandri - lovely news about another little boy. Funny having a set due date isn't it. Mine is 27th July and I can't wait!

I have the first of my two 20 weeks scan on Tuesday (20+2). We are having one private scan at the fetal medicine centre where I had my nuchal and then my regular nhs one the following Monday at 21+1. The nhs wouldn't book the 20 week scan until you are 21 weeks so this was as early as I would get with them but we also decided go go to the FMC as their scans are a lot more detailed. Will finally get confirmation that we are indeed expecting another DD as they predicted at the 12 week scan as we haven't told anyone the sex until we know 'for sure'.

having dinner tonight with all my nct friends from when i had DD and get to surprise them all with my news which I think will shock them as DH has been telling them for the 18 months that we were sticking at one (even though we knew we weren't!).

aliceelinsmum · 11/03/2011 10:35

Can I join you? I'm 17 weeks with my second baby, due 19th August. DD is 3 and a half and very excited. Lovely to hear about all the scans - can't wait for mine. We didn't find out the sex last time but will this time, if the baby plays along!

Yukana - couldn't believe the vile comments on your thread in AIBU, how horrible - glad you're rising above it and doing OK

Yukana · 11/03/2011 10:45

Welcome Alice! :) Hope you'll find it comfortable here.

I'm hoping to find out the gender too, when is your scan?

As for the AIBU topic, I think it was some grumpy women thinking it was a nice idea to fire arrows at me, but I posted again and told them our situation, so I don't think they'll be firing arrows anymore.

littlemissw · 11/03/2011 11:17

Welcome to all the new mamas!

So happy for you leiandri. Two of the same sex are great fun & my girls love each others company. It sounds like there are going to be a few of us with little boys. :) I've managed to contain myself so far & have only bought one little blue cardigan. Soooo tiny - funny how you forget just how small they are when they are born.

Re. places to buy baby stuff, apart form the NCT nearly new sales that someone else has mentioned too, I can also recommend Kiddicare.com. They are very reasonably priced, especially on their pushchairs, and also offer to match the price if you find it cheaper anywhere else.

MrsVid, I have been told to increase my salt intake & that should help to combat low blood pressure. Its made quite a difference so far, but has taken a bit of getting used to as I've never put salt in any of our food.

Yukana, I can't believe how horrid some woman can be. Some of those comments are just so callous! Keep your head up & stay positive.

Looking forward to hearing what those of you who are finding out are having! Wink

Firawla · 11/03/2011 12:23

leilandri congrats!! 2 boys close in age is lovely, it will be really nice for you ds having a brother

welcome alice

MrsStevo · 11/03/2011 13:09

Thanks for all your lovely comments. I'm trying to chill out about it all and just be excited that everything is ok so far. I think I would go CRAZY if I didn't have my own doppler though - i check for heartbeats every day and it is so re-assuring when I can hear them. Think I could feel a baby from the outside yesterday that was right up near my belly button, but it had wriggled back down again by the time DH got home from work so he couldn't feel it.

MrsV - I've had low blood pressure from the start of my preg that has made me quite dizzy at times. I tried eating more salt and when I told my mw that she told me off!! She said that eating more salt causes far more problems and she would rather my bp stayed low at the moment. She said that the best way to try and keep it up was to drink plenty of fluids, so i've upped my drinks intake. Seems to have worked as my bp was 120/58 on Wed which is much better.

Leilandri - congrats on finding out that your having a boy!! How exciting!! In a way I'm a bit jealous of some of you finding out what you're having, but my DH and I agree that we would like the surprise.

I've only got 20 weeks and 4 days left to go as I'm having mine around 37 weeks ... almost halfway!!! Time will flllllly by. Just need to figure out when I can finish work, not soon enough!!!!
