Checking in but am still on my own!

On phone so going to be short and sweet!

OMG Sara your birth story is amazing, must be worthyof a story in the local paper!

Hospital decided Monday was a show but just had the gunky show. Yesterday I slept all day and now have chronic back ache so things may be on the move.

rock relax and enjoy today, tomorrow is a new chapter.crystyl good luck with your induction too.

I have midwife at lunch so will try and get on the laptop later and catch up properly.

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 09:04

Oh you lot! Tsk! I was expecting to log on and here baby news. Sigh....

Well - almost there anyhow... and hopefully very soon for you pootle! I'll keep my fingers crossed for little pootle to pop painlessly into world soon. Is your DH home?

Like the retail therapy plan too cysty. I'm off to (oh joys) Newton Abbott today and trago mills... planning on lots of walking and hopefully chocolate lolly buying in thorntons... but have resigned myself to being induced on the 11th/12th.

What date are you due in for induction crysty?

And good idea from pootle rock - have a lovely relaxing day and enjoy last cuddles with DD - as tomorrow her world (and yours! and DPs) will completely change. But don't worry - last little bit on the hill, and then your tummy problems and anxiety will go and your have your DS and all will be lovely.

(god - have i been on drugs this morning?)

RockLover · 02/02/2011 09:17

Thanks pootle and cupcakes, believe me I really want to relax this morning, but so far it has been impossible. Woke up with tummy ache, had to keep rushing to the loo and only just managed to get DD to school.

Now I'm home with a sore tummy and feeling washed out and sick, I can't even contemplate breakfast at the moment. I am really hoping I feel half decent tomorrow or I'm going to really struggle with the induction. Why does my body hate me?? Surely with all this upset tummy stuff for the last week it could at least let me go into labour naturally!!!

I'm supposed to be going grocery shopping this morning to get some stuff in for my parents and last minute snacks for my labour back, but I'm postponing it until later in the hope that I'll feel better.

Hope all you mums and mums-to-be have a lovely day. :)

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 09:38

Don't worry lovely - tomorrow will just be another day, and hopefully you'll feel better later. And if not, you'll be able to get a hug from your dad.

is your mum coming down too? Is she OK now?

And don't worry about grocery shopping - even if you don't feel like it, i'm sure they can survive on whatever you have around the house - and if not they can go and buy something. Just relax, and maybe have a lie down and watch some crappy TV. Smile

Poor you rock - are these normal IBS symptoms on top of feeling very pregnant and knackered?

Can you get a supermarket drop? spend an extra £3 to get it delivered to you? they take pity on you if you're pg and carry it into the kitchen for you - well worth the dosh.

Come on Devon ladies!!!

Lachlan's starting to behave a bit better - 2hrs through the night, but much better than ever 10 mins for 3hrs. He's asleep now and I'm waiting for 2nd MW visit now, so going to try to drop off. Friend has taken the girls to a playgroup for me, which is very, very kind of her and much appreciated, so got to make the most of the quiet - snoozalicious! :)

RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 09:44

I am still here for the morning roll call. Just spoke to the midwife who can fit me in for another sweep at 2.50 this afternoon, meaning I'll have to miss the NCT coffee. So, this had made me cry. I'm not even sure if it's worth having as I'm booked in for induction Friday anyway and am just resigned to that now.

Am coming to the conclusion that my body is so impressed with its ability to get pregnant that it doesn't want to let the baby come out.

Anyway, Rock, you poor thing - hope you're feeling better soon.

Cupcakes, that's a bit rubbish, I was told we were induced when we were 12 days over. It does seem to be a 4pm kickoff but you'd think they'd be able to tell you when.

Sounds like things are starting there Pootle, let us know what the midwife says.

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 10:04

Hi running nice Hmm to see you this morning! how's the netbook? The m/w told me that by going for sweeps before induction, mkaes the whole induction process easier... so i'd say go and get it done - and hten treat yourself to big cake afterwards!

I agree with blaming bodies! Mine's probably thinking - it took me 5 years to get here - might not get here again - let's enjoy this painache boy kicking every night Grin

Was a good girl and spent 30 mins last night leaning over bed reading, trying to make baby face right way.

I love your friend too bubba. What a star! hope you manage to get some sleep in before m/w appears!

Only good thing about resigning myself to being induced next week - DH called his mum last night and told her not to bother coming down til weekend of 19th - so best scenario (i.e. baby popping out today0 - i have 2 weeks without MIL.... worse scenario - still have a week to sort my life out and baby out before she comes down! Grin

Oh, nad heartburn not too bad this morning so trying toast with the teeniest bit of marmite on it... Wink hopefully will be ok. I lvoe my marmite!

Thanks Cupcakes, Bubba and Running. Think the upset tummy is probably a bit of IBS, mixed with pregnancy hormones and made worse by anxiety.

My Mum is still poorly, but has found out that she does not have any infections, the dr thinks she has post viral fatigue after having flu and this has given her a very severe bout of IBS (yep it runs in the family). So she will come down with Dad if she feels well enough to make the journey.

Baby is moving today, but in a gentle way, I'm wondering if he knows what's coming tomorrow and he's not too keen lol. I just want to meet him now and for all this to be over.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for all of us that are still waiting that things will all go swimmingly and we'll all have lovely, easy births. I don't think I'm asking for too much since we've all been waiting for so long Grin.

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 10:07

oh - and can't type properly...

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 10:48

Cupcakes, didn't know that, ok, will go for sweep and buy cake on your say so.

Saw my mum yesterday, I was telling her that on Monday my NCT leader said this was a boy bump - she'd put money on it. To which my mum agreed but said it was a shame as a girl would suit me better. WTF? Hmm

I agree Rock, surely if these babies are keeping us waiting then we deserve births that are nice and uncomplicated. :)

farawaytrees · 02/02/2011 10:59

I hope your feeling better soon rocklover and I agree we all deserve easy births after all the waiting. I have had a lot of people tell me they went into labour the day before they were due to be induced so there is still time!

I am having my first sweep today and feeling a bit nervous about it, but hopeful it might get things started before I have to be induced on Saturday.

Crystylline · 02/02/2011 12:33

hi all.

bought books and clary sage oil!

also trying to book a reflexology session too.

desperation stakes now!

rock i second all of everyone's advice; order the shopping for delivery, rest and snuggle up with bump and your family.

bubba glad you're getting a bit more sleep and how lovely of your friend!

katie i didn't know that about sweeps either, so will def have mine on friday and cross everything it works.

cupcakes enjoy the shopping and the chocolate!!

I've been reading up on inductions as trying to work out how to avoid too much intervention. It would appear that only 20% of all births last year were induced, so there's still a good chance we all might start labour without.

if not, i've read a few times now that you can have the pessary/tablet and initial monitoring and if all OK, you can ask to go home or at least go off the ward for awhile, which i know i'd prefer, as i hated being stuck on the main ward last time with mooing, labouring mums to be - felt really intrusive.

another good fact is that even including inductions, less than 15% of all births last year needed forceps or ventouse, so hopefully can avoid that too.

lots of hospitals have mobile cpg monitors as well, so i'm def going to ask for one, so i can try and avoid being stuck in bed.

hope this isn't TMI, but thought it might be useful for any of us that might be induced.

p.s - does anyone else find they get a really bad stitch when out walking? i only managed about an hour round the shops as it was very uncomfortable. wasn't the weight of the bump, just a sharp stitch-type pain on top right of bump. it stopped when i sat down.

RockLover · 02/02/2011 12:45

Crysty you're right about not having to stay on the ward when you've had a pessary, you are encouraged (with intermittent monitoring I believe) to have a good old wander of the hospital and grounds.

Hoswever, the mw said that once I had been started off I wouldn't be allowed off hospital premises. But still, at least I won't have to stay put in one place.

Crystylline · 02/02/2011 12:51

rock fab! that's just the confirmation I wanted.

i just don't want to lose my privacy or intrude on anyone else's, if that makes sense?

I also can't stand hospitals, so the smallest amount of time I can spend in it, the better!

really hope they'll let me out of the hospital so i can go have a nice meal or something before it all kicks off! Smile

RockLover · 02/02/2011 12:59

I don't like hospitals either, especially having to share loos, urgh. I am very nervous about staying on the ward over night as I am peeing so much I am worrying I will be disturbing people by constantly walking to and from the toilet.

I am also not looking forward to being without DP, if things haven't kicked off by 9pm he has to go home and I don't really want to be in a scary hospital on my own. I'm a complete bloody wimp though.

RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 13:30

Queen of random cleaning checking in again to report that this morning I have wiped all of the door frames upstairs. I made the mistake of looking at the bathroom one and realised it was pretty grim which started me off on a mission. DP asked if this classes as nesting?!

Well done on the induction research ladies, I've just put more undies and another top into my labour bag assuming I'll be in longer than originally thought. Am going to ask the midwife what the policy around here is, it seems to differ so wildly.

Cupcakes, netbook is lovely, just charging it up now and getting anti-virus stuff on before I use it in earnest. :)

RockLover · 02/02/2011 15:46

I will be adding more undies to my bag too running, I have just done another wash so will bung a couple of tops in as well tomorrow morning when they're dry.

I will be nipping to the shops tonight to get a few more snacks for labour (although I've been feeling so crappy, not sure how much I'll be eating).

I'm so bricking it, I dread to think what sort of a state I'll be in tomorrow.

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 15:52

Hmmm hadn't even considered DH not being there with me and having to stay on my own. For some reason agree - don't fancy that either rock Hmm - but then we live about 45 mins drive away... hmmmmmmm. Weird, i feel OK to stay on ward on own once baby is here - but not before.

Thanks for the info crysty - i hadn't even considered anything.

No stitch for me when walking, but baby always turns into a bowling ball and goes really hard when i do walk for a long time.

Good news though, thorntons still had the 5 choc lollies for £1 - so I got 20! told the girl in the shop i was pregnant, as she was giving me odd looks thoguh Grin

Ooooh and love the cleaning running - think i might pay for you to fly to syria! And hadn't thought about extra knickers, tops etc for being induced. Angry COME ON BABY come soon!

Oh, and just had a text "baby yet?" Hmm

So if you are induced, you go in ward and then wait? And then what happens if you start going into labour at say, 3am - DH rushes back???? I don't think I like the sound of this... Hmm

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 15:52

Well, sweep done, MW very sympathetically told me that there's no change in my uncooperative cervix from last Friday. Ho hum, looks like it'll be induction on Friday. :(

So, I'm eating a creme egg even though it's not known for its inducing qualities. The MW did advise DP that nipple tweaking might work!

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 15:54

x-post - but bricking it a bit too rock - although at least by the time my induction comes, you will have popped on here and said "IT WAS LOVELY"... Grin

Very very very good luck rock - or totty as you are known in our house! [GRIN]

OP posts:
CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 15:56

x-post with running POO to your cervix Sad - another induction... dear god - we're dragging this "end of jan babies" thread out aren't we!

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 16:11

Starting to wonder about when/how I'll be fed on Friday. Assuming I go in for 4pm, does that mean I'll get my tea in the hospital? Have bought stuff to make sandwiches for DP so maybe will make enough for us both, I'm sure he can hoover them all up if necessary.

MW did say that it'll be 6 hours between each pessary, up to 3 of them. Pessary doesn't rule out birthing pool, but if they then have to break my waters and use the drip then that does. DP might be advised to go home if 1st pessary doesn't work to get some sleep, and I'll be admitted into the antenatal ward rather than the induction bay in the labour ward.

Cupcakes, it will be lovely - we're going to have snuggly babies soon! It'll be worth it in the end. :)

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 16:21

running how far away do you live?

And i think i'm finding all this induction thing, just a bit well... kind of airy fairy - my M/W wouldn;t tell me much - but not sure if she's just waiting til nearer the time....

My mum was induced for both me and brother, adn said she had drip and they didn;t feed her cos they did enema (sp?)....

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 02/02/2011 16:26

We live about 20 mins from the hospital, outside of rush hour or upwards of 90 mins during rush hour. DP also has slight issues with finding it, can only get there & back with the aid of sat nav! I have suggested that he might wish to consider booking himself a room in the hotel over the road! Grin

CupcakesHay · 02/02/2011 16:39

Funny enough just discussing with Dh - and decided that if it comes to it, he'll stay at travel lodge - which is only 15 min walk to the hospital...

Ugh - feeling more and more UGH about an induction - i know i have a week to get this baby out of me, but just don't think it'll happen some how - even with my positive thinking. He's very naughty - do you remember I said he was meant to be born yesterday on the 1st. TSK!
