OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MizK · 22/01/2011 18:04

angels- I have had two babies naturally and can honestly say i cannot remember a thing about the placenta being delivered. Think youre on a kind of spacey high after delivering the baby so you just let the mws do their thing? So def dont lose any sleep over that bit.

Re changing bags, I went to the Cath Kidston factory shop and got a lovely oilskin bag with tons of room for about £20, I'll just use any little changing mat with it, dont think you really need the matching one. Def need something waterproof as they go everywhere with you for ages!

ledkr I bloody love your birth plan, think mine would follow similar lines, altho TBH I think I'm embarassed to admit what a full-on wuss I am. I hate blood, gore, pain, bodily secretions in general so am the least useful mother to be ever. I have begged DP to insist I am given an epidural and I want the baby wiping down before I hold him/her. I know that may sound awful but honestly I know what I'm like and thats pretty cowardly in general!

Also loving your plan of watching The Wire, I swear thats kept me sane during endless sober nights in on the sofa. Felt bereft when I watched the last episode and need a new box set to fill the void - anyone have any good suggestions?

suzym1984 · 22/01/2011 19:04

Hi! Thanks for all the advice re: slings and changing bags Grin

Back from my ante natal class too and the midwife showed us how to bath a real life new born! He was so cute I wanted to cuddle him, and it was really good to see how to handle a real tiny baby (as opposed to a doll!)

angels I also felt exhausted after the class and really achey. I feel ok now after some food, but I think an early night is on the cards!

debka · 22/01/2011 19:41

needtosleep think you've passed your cold onto me :( , it's miserable isn't it. Got sore throat and runny nose- feel rotten enough to take paracetamol which I never normally take. DD's got it too, and DH has been working all day so we've had a Beebies-Fest.

suzym your antenatal class sounds great :)

snowangels1 · 22/01/2011 19:42

Thanks all for the support. Still feel rubbish but think I'm just tired - will beg a back massage from DH this evening I think :)

Forgot to say re: antenatal class - we got to test out g&a if we wanted! I chickened out though as was too scared it would make me feel sick Blush . Also got some hillarious stories from the mws there about previous births which I must share when I get time to type them.

Hope 9pm evening out is enjoyed wiggles. 9pm is now my bedtime, yawn.

40 lol at baby going mental at popping candy Wink

Speaking of dvd box sets DH and I are watching the latest season of 24 but I keep falling asleep and missing everything

40Weeks · 22/01/2011 20:30

Oooh mizk am very envious of the Cath Kidston bag. I have just hauled my pink lining one out of the washing machine and it honestly doesn't look any better than before it went in! Oh well at least I will know it's clean.

Have got baby's room almost ready and although hospital bag isn't packed, all the stuff to go in is in one place so could be shoved in a bag if necessary! Feeling a bit calmer about things...also picked up lovely new lampshades this afternoon and bought new curtains for living/dining room. Only after 4 yrs of living here! Now just have to persuade dh to put curtains up!

earlgreyismynectar · 22/01/2011 20:58

Hello everyone! I too dropped out for s couple of days due to feeling rotten with a head cold, still feeling whacked with it but better than yesterday, must be catching!

Loving the birth plans! I wrote mine although half of it is taken up with various childcare scenarios for DD should I go into labour in the middle of the night and should DP be away (50% chance he will be) too many variables! My last birth plan consisted of a few bullet points & got chucked to one side as soon as I got into hospital at 8cm. Best part of it was that I stated no students (after I'd read it on a template on the net, unreasonable I know) only to discover later that it was actually a student who delivered DD! Grin I'm positively encouraging students this time (well one anyway)...

I've got a Samsonite changing bag somewhere which came from TKMaxx. It has ladybird markings which is cute & looks good with the black pram! Just need to locate it. Love the Cath Kidston ones but cannot justify another until I've bought a new house and car first Grin

Re slings a friend of mine recommended the one which is a length of jersey fabric which you wrap. Preg head means I can't remember the brand name sorry. She said it's less of a faff that you'd think & having seen a video on YouTube of how to wrap & tie it seems quite straight forward (I'll get back to you on that). Bought one cheap on eBay & only discovered after I'd bought it that it's coming from Hong Kong so baby could be here before it is!

Ledkr hope you're feeling fine after your BH scare, so exciting how close you are to meeting your baby!

Re transverse lie, I sound like a cracked record but really - on all fours, rest your arms on the floor & your head on them so your head is lower than your pelvis. It's an elegant arse in the air position but really worked for me in getting baby to turn! Whenever you feel it move, flip into it. This bub is now permanently head down and for the first time today no longer back to back & I'm 38 weeks now if that helps.

I've been loving all of your other posts but sorry, remembering any more specifics is beyond me right now! Have a lovely weekend everyone.

earlgreyismynectar · 22/01/2011 21:02

Moby Wrap is the brand of sling! On eBay & Amazon

earlgreyismynectar · 22/01/2011 21:03

Oh and good for breastfeeding too

PinkiePoo · 22/01/2011 21:13

Evenin' all!

I really cannot keep up with you ladies!! I read posts and then forget everything that has been said!

ledkr Hope all goes well with CS, and yes your birth plan was something else! I shall be plagiarising and using for myself!!

For all those who have head colds...a fair few...i feel your pain!!1 I do too, and its horrible, as if we are not short of breath as it is!! Hope it goes soon!!

Been teaching from 10 - 5.30pm today, so once again done in. Am working 10-1 tomorrow too. If i keep active, maybe she will come early?!! Is it a sign that if today i feel like i am walking like John Wayne, that she has dropped?
It feel weird down by the vajayjay....very slight pressure. had MW on Weds, and she said head is down but not quite engaged yet, so would it have happened that soon?

PinkElephant73 · 22/01/2011 21:43

Ah changing bags!

I have got the free one from the boots baby club plus this little beauty which is just for me. half price in the sale as well!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/01/2011 23:21

Really sorry, seem to be infecting you with my germs... I can heartily recommend creme eggs though as a feel good food! OH and I didn't go out but I tried to play on the WII through watery eyes and sneezes, even worse than usual and bought on BHs in a big way!
Hope everyone gets over this thing quickly, not sure where it came from but it's horrible.

MizK As a fellow wire fan I loved Oz (very gory though!) and have Sons of Anarchy to watch when I'm in the mood. I also loved Lie To Me but it's a bit glamourous compared to the others (I just love Tim Roth Wink)

wiggles I hope you're having a fab time tonight and you get a break from the sickness, god knows you deserve it!

40weeks would love to know what babies feel when you eat popping candy, brilliant!!! Grin

Off to bed now and OH has said he'll sleep on the sofa now to let me hog the entire duvet rest properly bless him. Hope you all get a good night's rest (unless anyone fancies going into labour, it's been a while since our last baby arrived!) x

snowangels1 · 23/01/2011 08:04

Please no one sneeze on me - I don't want a head cold thankyouverymuch (but sending sympathies if you're suffering).

pinkie continues to dazzle me with her ability to teach dancing all day still Grin

I forgot to say - we were told at our AN class with certainty that if our waters break in JL/m&s etc you definately do not get given free gifts/hampers from the store. They said it was an urban myth that snuck around every now and again but was not true (apparently), so if you were thinking of hovering in m&s in the hope then I'd check first if you'll get a hamper or a bill to clean up all the mess you make Wink

Hope everyone enjoyed their sat night last night - one of our last saturday nights before babies come now Grin . I'm now starting to feel like my body it getting to its limits and everything is very painful/achey. Also have periody pains which sort of stretch round to my lady bits and had an upset tum last night - feels like things are slowly getting ready for when the big day arrives.

Btw - does anyone else ever feel a bit worried that they are going through the toughest physical thing they will probably ever do yet feel the most tired/body feels most out of shape it ever has?! I'm not quite sure how my shattered and unfit and stiff body will cope anymore when I can barely even stand up for long Hmm

ledkr · 23/01/2011 08:47

Morning.angels when i was first breathless at about 26 wks there were times that i felt ike i was dying(literally)i thought that a pg at my age was the bodies final straw and id pushed it too far and poor dd was going to grow up with out me.Now im at the end i just congrstulate myself on still being up and about. The constant aches and pains are normal but wearing, moving around for has a narrative of"oooo.ah.fuck,ouch,daaamn," followed by "i cant bloody do this anymore" mostly dd and dh carry on watching tv Grin
The party is done and all is well in the ledkr house,i am so relieved. The party was great,me and dh put my baby gs to bed with no drama except a pooh in the bath, cue lots of immature screaming and laughter from us both.
On a more serious note this baby has slowed down with the movements so much i may have to pop in for a monitor today.I have appointment tomorrow but think i need to go today. She does move but infrequently and much lighter.I have the dopler and she seems ok but just so quiet.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 23/01/2011 09:46

Morning,

Just been doing the housework and, like you ledkr it's had a little narrative Wink
I hope all is well, best to get things checked just in case. Glad you enjoyed last night and that your DH laughed at the poo in the bath, good training!

angels I have my face covered, promise (just snotty and watery eyes today)! I agree with the not knowing how I'm going to have the strength physically to give birth as I go from having little bursts of energy then utter exhaustion. I'm trusting mother nature to help me through.

I have a question.... I don't want to get excited but I think I've had a 'show'. Had 2 what I think were contractions in the night but nothing since then (except, of course the perpetual backache) then went to the loo about 6am and there was a lot of really thick clear discharge (sorry if you're eating breakfast!) with pale pink bits in it on my pad. When I wiped myself I got more of the same. It was quite yucky!

I'm trying to keep active to encourage something to happen but just getting BHs, is this normal for the last few weeks or should I be getting a bit excited (am 37+3)? It says in my hb notes that a show doesn't mean labour is imminent and not to call the mw if it comes away so really trying to take it in my stride Hmm

knittakid · 23/01/2011 10:36

Oh needto sounds exciting! you are so close that it'll happen sooner or later, so you are right to keep it calm, but it's exciting nonetheless!

MizK I was recommended Mad Men by a fellow wire-lover, so that's what I'll be doing.

ledkr · 23/01/2011 10:46

cant believe there are fellow wire lovers.I havent watched it for a while cos shameless came back,i do tend to fall asleep to it as you need to concentrate on the story dont you.
needto was your commentary blue like mine?
Sounds like a show to me,keep active.Good luck.

40Weeks · 23/01/2011 10:57

Oh good luck needto sounds promising!

My sil gave me clary sage oil last time, apparently it helps get labour going and it certainly worked (as things had slowed right down) could have been coincidence but might be worth getting some for a burner or to put in your bath....if you can be arsed. I think boots sell it as do neals yard

EauRouge · 23/01/2011 11:14

Ooh, good luck needto! Keep us updated if you can Wink

I tried clary sage with DD and it didn't work but I'll defo be trying again this time!

snowangels1 · 23/01/2011 12:15

ohhhhh needto sounds exciting :) One of the first things they talked about at AN class yesterday was a show (so at that point I had the energy to concentrate well!) and they said it was a sign things are moving in the right direction but doesn't mean labour will be straight away. Good sign though - Im betting you'll have Ben in the next week Grin

ledkr glad Ella enjoyed her pizza party and I'm sure you're now wiping your brow with relief that you managed to get through it OK. Must be only 3/4 sleeps now?

So, it seems this coming week should hopefully see some more baby announcements woohoo Grin

NeedToSleepZZZ · 23/01/2011 12:58

I really really hope he comes in the next week! Smile
Nothing else happening though.

ledkr yes the commentary was a very dark blue this morning, and last night actually!

Unfortunately I don't like the smell of clary sage (it's very earthy isn't it?) but have loads of lavender candles and spray. Thank you though 40weeks Smile

Tarlia · 23/01/2011 13:07

Ooooh, exciting, needto. Hope your wait isn't too long.

Wow, it's so strange to think that the babies are guaranteed to start arriving this week! Where have these months gone?!?

Good luck to those having babies this week, wishing you all uneventful labours and CS's.

Anyone want to join the, 'my legs are balloons' club? Any tips? I've been keeping them up on the sofa, rolling ankles and wiggling toes. I should really go in for monitoring, but feel that'll be more stressful for my BP.

cookingfat · 23/01/2011 14:18

Hello
Another Wire fan here!
All morning i've been having braxton hicks every 10 minutes, but it stopped at lunchtime :( getting the occasional one now... Going to see Black Swan later for distraction, and am glugging the raspberry leaf tea!

suzym1984 · 23/01/2011 17:33

oooh I definatley think there will be some baby announcements on here this week!! How exciting!!

needto I think u might be next Grin Try and get as much rest as possible in case something happens.

Ive had a lovely day mooching about the shops with DH...but then I was really naughty!! I ate goatscheese!!! salad at lunch!!!!! I dont know what came over me...can someone please reassure me that I have not done any harm????!!! Please!

EauRouge · 23/01/2011 17:50

I thought goat's cheese was OK? Confused I get so confused with different cheeses. I know anything mouldy is out and so are brie and camembert. I'm sure there will be no harm done by just eating it once anyway.

You've just reminded me of a couple of things to add to my shopping list, brie and salami and a big juicy steak to eat raw after the baby arrives. And some champagne obviously!

suzym1984 · 23/01/2011 17:53

Thanks eaurouge I think its ok when cooked (which it apparently was) but I am still scared! I just ordered without thinking Sad o dear, I can see me worrying about this all night!

Deffo get champagne on the shopping list, DH has been told he better bring me some into hospital Grin
