Re transverse lie, we've been told in yoga that all fours positions help to make room for baby and give them more chance to move into the correct position. You can try just getting on your hands and knees (I sometimes lean on the sofa or gym ball for this) when the baby's moving and just letting your belly drop so he might wriggle his way round. Alternatively, in an all fours position, you can try making small or large circles (whichever is more comfortable for you) in both directions and you can even try a figure of eight pattern and then test your poor old pregnancy brain by trying to do that one in the opposite direction! Finally, left side lying is apparently the best for helping the baby get into the right position. I wake up every morning really achy as a result, but I'm hoping it's doing the baby some good and will pay off in the long run!

My baby's not transverse, but the back is on my right side and I've been informed that ideally it should be on the left, so I have been trying to turn it, but would have to admit that I probably haven't tried as hard as I should be. One of the girls at yoga has managed to turn her baby from breech to head down in the speace of a week doing this though, so it might be worth giving it a go!

Hope it helps.

pipsicles · 21/01/2011 16:54

Only two after eights?!?!?!

JustOneMorePlease · 21/01/2011 16:57

ledkr simply hilarious!!!!!

snowangels1 · 21/01/2011 17:04

roundthehouses I had health visitor this morning and asked her if I needed a new mattress for pram which was second hand (but barely used) and she said no it was fine what I had, but maybe moses basket would be best to get a new one as they are in it alot more. Sure I saw one in John Lewis for about £20 which didn't seem too bad

delia hope you get DH situ sorted out (or at least feel better about what might happen or come up with a contingency).

sbf loved how you had written your birth plan. If you don't mind I'm hoping to pinch a few sentences where I think you worded things very well (although mine has different point in it which are specific to me).

debka I would be Angry if they lost my blood - I've actually heard of it happening alot - I wonder where it goes Hmm . Maybe there are loads of secret vampires working in phlebotomy (however you spell it) for the NHS Wink And talk about hot hospitals - don't know how I'll cope staying in one in/after labour - I'm a fresh air windows open type of girl and will hate the stuffiness.

And I love ledkrs birthplan. Made me LOL. I think I should hand a copy of this to mws first to give them a grin before the proper one Wink

I am still mourning the loss of my cheap foam mattress. Thank you for your thoughts at this hard time. It will be very difficult to have to buy a lovely expensive comfy long lasting one after such an experience Wink

First antenatal class tomorrow - eeek, hope I don't come over all funny/teary about birth etc.

tarlia no idea on the bee stings thing sorry.

Deliaskis · 21/01/2011 17:10

ledkr I love your birth plan! Hilarious!

And also feel secretly vindicated that even an experienced hand like you (see how I didn't say old?) can understand why I might be a bit uncomfortable with DH going away situ. I feel like I can now say 'even ledkr, who has 3/4 children (I think?), would be uneasy with this'!

angels & roundthehouses yes I don't think people worry as much about pram mattresses as they don't sleep as deeply or for as long in prams.

angels re AN classes I have to confess I had a couple of swallow the lump in throat/pretend you have a slight snuffly cold moments!

tarlia I have never heard of the bee sting thing either?

D

Deliaskis · 21/01/2011 17:11

ledkr that was 3 soon to be 4 children (or is it 4 soon to be 5?), not 3/4 as in three quarters, which would be ...unusual...LOL.

D

BramblyHedge · 21/01/2011 17:15

ledkr - I might nick your birth plan for myself Smile

Might add - 'no, I do not wish to see the placenta this time and I didn't want to last time either'

smallblackflowers · 21/01/2011 17:15

ledkr Grin Grin at your birthplan - its much better than mine Grin

angels pinch away - I 'borrowed' loads of it from various others that I read. My moses basket mattress came from toys r us and was about a tenner - this was 2 years ago though. I will be reusing as DD barely used it - at night she slept in a crib in our room and spent most of the day sleeping on me either in a sling or attached to my boob, she wasn't keen on the moses basket at all.

tarlia I don't think acupuncture is routinely offered during labour over here, and have never heard of the beestings either - sorry. Yes - fingers crossed we get the births we want too Smile

janedoe25 · 21/01/2011 17:21

Loving the birth plan Ledkr! Hope u and your daughter have lovely weekend and she has a fab birthday!

It is such a shame about the matress Angels dont be too upset about it Wink

Dreya · 21/01/2011 17:34

Wow. Another fresh thread! ledkr I love your birth plan! That really made me chuckle. Good to see yours too SBF. I too am planning a water birth at the birth centre. I'm now wondering whether I am being too relaxed about the labour. I don't have a birth plan. Perhaps I should write one. I will write one actually and I will be pinching a couple of your points.
I got my changing bag from Emmaljunga. I love it because it looks like a handbag and it matches my pram. It looks like it should work quite well. It has a bottle warmer thing?! and a changing mat and lots and lots of compartments to lose to store things in. Time will tell how good it actually is. Smile
Delia I can totally understand you being concerned. I think I would be the same. It would be sad for your DH to miss it but I do agree with the others who say the chances of you going into labour on the day are very small so try not to worry (easier said than done, I know)

Re: the mattress - I have a brand new moses basket from Mamas & Papas which I have had since October and I noticed that it had started to discolour slightly, just round the edges. Hmm So I popped it in the wash and it looks brand new. Roundthehouses perhaps washing the mattress might be alright? Just a suggestion. Or if it's not just to do with staining/freshening up then I am sure I saw brand new ones on ebay going for £9.99.
11 days till my due date! Shock

knittakid · 21/01/2011 17:54

I hope ledkr that you will hand it to your mw/consultant as it is simply brilliant. I think it'd make their day too.

sbf I might nick a sentence too if that's alright? thank you for sharing.

delia hope it all turns out well!

Question about third stage, does everybody goes with managed?

Finally got all the little clothes needed, in plain white as am sick of all the presents beign baby blue, I wonder if I should paint a huge willy on babies forehead just to make sure everybody knows HE IS A BOY!!! Angry
Later on I'll buy them in bright colours but they didn't have the newborn or 0-3 sizes in them.
Thanks for the vest/bodysuit/thing that nobody know what to call advice.

Was told today on the street by a man slightly off his head with who-knows-what that I was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, made my day! he was refering to my bump as well, so I wanted to pass on to you ladies the feeling that at this point we are the most beautiful things in the world. let nobody tell you otherwise.

wigglesrock · 21/01/2011 18:14

knittakid I was in GP sugery today waiting on midwife and there was an elderly couple waiting to be seen. He nudged her, pointed at me, held her hand and gave her a little kiss Grin I could barely see through the tears.

Midwife's appt went well, but now towards the end there is protein in my urine, going to get it tested for infection, midwife seems to think it has been hanging around for a while. Almost went down the "no shit Sherlock" route as I thought I wasn't well over New Year etc but just smiled and told her not to worry. It seems now the midwives are taking the still vomiting 37 week pregnant woman seriously Smile

Well took dd1 and dd2 to gymnastics, managed not to topple over while using vending machine, so a good day all round!!!

snowangels enjoy your class tomorrow

deliaskis of course you're worried about dh not being there, Mr Wiggles has a rotation of night shifts before the due date and am panicking slightly as he's been so busy lately he'd be hard to get hold of. Also my parents are quite partial to several the odd glass of wine in the evenings so couldn't rely on them for driving!! Bloody baby boomers think they'd make to with a cup of tea like everyone elses parents.

lostfromoz · 21/01/2011 18:20

thanks for the birth plan sbf, it's so nicely phrased. I think I might steal a few bits too!

Tarlia · 21/01/2011 18:38

bee stings I'm glad I'm not the only that hasn't heard of them. I will not be trying it, that's for sure. Ouch!

Loving your plan, Ledkr. You should def give them a giggle with it Grin.

Enjoy antenatal tomorrow, angels.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 21/01/2011 18:58

ledkr brilliant birth plan! thank you for making a grumpy woman laugh today Grin

Not sure I like the idea of bee stings Shock when in pain already!

this is the birth plan template I used and mw was quite impressed as it covers the basics (but without the red wine request Wink) and allows for a personal touch.

angels hope tomorrow goes well for you and you don't get too tired Smile

knitta I'm going for a physiological 3rd stage but mainly because I'm so scared of the injection making me nauseous (emetophobe Sad).

OH noticed how low down bump is earlier, I KNOW, I CAN FEEL HIS HEAD WHEN I SIT DOWN THANK YOU!!!!

roundthehouses · 21/01/2011 19:43

Delia - well i´m glad you have family around but like i said, I do understand, am sure i would be none too pleased about it either.

tarlia - never heard of bee sting things, or even acupuncture during labour.. have you googled it??

ledk love your birth plan Smile

SBF yours is great too and if i was having one it would be very similar but don´t think they would know what it was if i hit them in the face with it! We have a private midwife coming next week to do a one on one childbirth prep class and i hope to discuss a load of stuff with her, maybe after that dh and i will make one up for us so we know what we both are hoping for at least between us.

Ok so consensus is new mattress for moses so will have to get on with that soon. erk. no matter how much i hear of everyone else getting ready i still haven´t done anything more! think i´d better at least write a list of what i need in hospital bag so if i go into labour and its not packed we have a prompt of what we need! lol.

granny - good luck turning the baby. mine was breech at appt 2 weeks ago i have had a load of chiropractor appts and a bit of all fours kinda stuff and i think the baby has turned. have a scan at 37 weeks to check so hoping i am right, and that he stays like that! I was/am worried about csect but am 100% clear that if that is what has to be after 37 week scan, i will make myself be fine with it! after all we have little choice and might aswell make the best of it, right? there´s a lot to be said for not waiting til 40 or 42 weeks, knowing the date etc and of course most of all just knowing your baby is being delivered in the safest way possible.

bramblyhedge - LOL re placenta. MW insisted on showing it to dh and i too and we were like "nooooooooOOOOOooooo" hahah why, why, WHY do we need to see that?

ok got to post this now before i lose it did go on a bit there!!

debka · 21/01/2011 19:52

ledkr hahahaha!!!!

knitta and needtosleep when I had DD just after I pushed her out the midwife brandished a needle and said she was going to inject my thigh, I freaked out and she said 'come off it, you just had a baby!'. Which kind of put it in perspective for me!

Have an Issue I would like your opinions on. After my appt at hosp today I was reading the notes the mw made and they said that she was unable to feel the baby's position, lie or engagement due to my raised BMI. Thing is, she didn't even touch my tummy- she asked me to tell HER where the heartbeat was! FWIW my normal mw, student mw and consultant have reported no problems determining baby's position. DH and my mum and dad think I should make a complaint as this seems to be falsifying the notes, and if she does it to me, she may do it to someone else to whom it will be more significant. What do you all think I should do, if anything? My inclination is to have a word with her when I'm next there on Tuesday.

debka · 21/01/2011 19:53
ZeroMinusZero · 21/01/2011 20:04

What's the vitamin k thing? I've read about it before but don't know why you would/n't want it for your baby Confused

snowangels1 · 21/01/2011 21:01

debka I think if it was me I'd mention it to your normal mw and see what she thinks. You're right - it could be more serious in certain situations if she does this alot and sounds terrible practice.

zero think there were some studies a while ago that put a link between vit k inj and increase in childhood lukemia (can't spell). Have since been disproved I think though.

PDR · 21/01/2011 21:17

debka do you actually have raised BMI?
I have and the MW does not usually bother to try and feel my stomach much as there is too much padding for her to feel properly. I think this is another reason why I went for the scan at 34 weeks - to check the position of the baby. My consultant does feel my tummy but he has to prod so hard it's really really uncomfortable for me. Is she quite inexperienced do you know? Funny that she didn't explain to you though Confused?! Lucky she's not your normal MW!

ZeroMinusZero · 21/01/2011 21:38

Thanks angels I just had a quick root around on the internet and I think I probably will let my baby have it :)

Grannyapple · 21/01/2011 23:21

Thx folks & round like u say if that's the way it has to be then so be it! Think I've got my head round it today now....will find out by tuesday hopefully, so hoping baby turns by then! If not, week after next it is!!

Loving the birth plans!!

OOO i know you are all in bed but had some excitemnt on way to theatre.Started having regular contractions. At first thought they were bh but then my eyes started to water so dil started to time them.Every i.5 mins lasting for a minute.I was getting worried a,that id spoil dd birthday and b,we were nowhere nr the hospital. All wanted to turn back but i wanted to get to theatre and have a wee and a drink and see if it went off.It worked and i have only had a few since Shock
In bed now so hopefuly thats it for a bit.

I may rewrite the birth plan to keep with the memory stuff,me and dh were discussing other stuff that could go on it and were in hysterics. He has 3 days off before baby we are going to really chill out,a bit of The Wire box set and seeing black swan at the pics and maybe a nice meal out.

angels i know its hard to let go of the dream re the foam matress but you'll be ok in time, i know this cos i had to give up the antique pushchair remember? You can get thru it tho. Grin

tadjennyp · 22/01/2011 06:34

It's all very exciting ledkr! Your birth plan was absolutely classic and really made me laugh! Grin
