ohhh ledkr that sounds exciting - how many sleeps now till csec?

Well, I think I have replaced my loss of the foam mattress with a new one - has anyone used/heard of the 'little green sheep' cot mattresses? They look really good online but not sure if they are as good as they say they are IYKWIM. Anyone got their mattress from them? They say they have a 5 yr guarentee and I like that they are all natural with wool and have no fire retardant chemicals etc but not sure if they will give firm enough support.[www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk/The-Little-Green-Sheep/Organic-Cot-Mattress-Mamas-and-Papas-Size-300.aspx]

Off to ante natal today after terrible nights sleep Confused and I'm sure I'm going to Shock get all funny about the birth stuff as I'm so worked up about it all - can hardly read about it in my pg books Blush

snowangels1 · 22/01/2011 07:51

Just try the link one more time incase anyones interested

suzym1984 · 22/01/2011 08:40

Morning everyone!

Ledkr how exciting!!! Hope you managed to get some rest after your eventful night!

I have no idea about the vitamin K injection...I didnt even realise it was controversial Blush

How do we all feel about getting the injection to deliver the placenta? I should do more research but I get myself all flustered Blush

angels I have an AN class today too, after very little sleep, I may need matchsticks for my eyes! Although this is the class where they show us how to bath babies etc, and apparently they use a real newborn from the ward./......SO EXCITING!!!! I am going to want to cuddle the baby but I'm sure thats not allowed!

My next 2 purchases I need to make are

  1. a chaanging bag
  2. a sling suitable for breastfeeding

If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful!

Oh, and angels sorry I've never seen those mattresses but Im sure it's fab. Condolenses (sp) on your foam mattress by the way Wink

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/01/2011 08:47

ooh, ledkr, so exciting. Don't know how you manage to stay so calm. Hope you're still relaxingSmile

angels i'm not one to ask as a 1st timer but i think mattress looks great!

after feeling rubbish yesterday i woke up this morning with a head cold, blah! upping my ribena intake and i'm sure cadbury creme eggs are a well known cure so may send OH out in a bit... wish i could have nurofen....

EauRouge · 22/01/2011 08:52

suzym, I'm going to go for a natural third stage with a time limit. With DD I wanted a natural third stage but after an hour I was too knackered and asked for the injection Grin so think I will do the same this time.

I've got a ring sling that I'll BF in, need to get a spare one as well for when the first one has been puked on!

You get a free changing bag at Boots if you join the parenting club. Make sure you personalise it though because everyone's got one and it gets very confusing at playgroup Grin

DD had oral vit K, I didn't want her having a jab as soon as she was born. Most areas will do oral vit K but you need to have several doses.

ledkr · 22/01/2011 08:52

it just links to website but it seems like a sweet company, how much is it?I am having a 2nd hand cot form dgs but will need new mattress no idea how much, she will sleep in moses for a while but if she's as big as they say that wont be for long!!
It is 5 sleeps till d day if i last.I ma getting bit scared now just about surgery, all beng well etc.angels as i said the other day try not to get too worried,my first was born naturally and i was 17,i just remember going along with it all,you just get swept up and by then you are so fed up of being pg its a relief. It does hurt yes but its also a means to an end and the calmer you can remain and in control of your own body the better you will feel. Why dont you watch some births on discovery health(they are on all day)and also research epidural too,i know there's a lot of contraversy about them but i am a nurse and come from a family of nurses and have many nursey friends, nne of us can undertand the fuss about it,if you have a choice to be pain free then why not take it,you may not even need it but its a trick to have up your sleev if it gets too much. I hope that helps i know you are worried but you will be back on here telling us all about it soon,

ledkr · 22/01/2011 09:03

i got the free bag at boots but also bought such anice one from la redoute, its smart black fabric and looks abit like a designer handbag it was on those offers they send on leaflets and so was about 15 quid i think, you tend to leave them packed up so i thought the boots one would be handy if just popping out for a short time.
needtosleep i can t wait to take nurofen either,i find paracetamol very ineffective-they had the cheek to give me 2 post section last time Shock
suzy i was calm yes but could feel the panic rising as we were over an hr from the nearest mat. hospital.I also didnt want to spoil dds night,i had a couple in the theatre and said to my dil we would be calling the baby Matilda if it came
on there.
Seriously tho i did feel very vulnerable away from home/hospital and will not be venturing out anymore.

suzym1984 · 22/01/2011 09:25

Thanks for the advice eaurouge I think will just copy your third stage plan! I will also get looking for a ring sling, Ive found a great clip on the internet where someone demonstrates how to BF in a ring sling, so seems like a good bet for me.

I also have the Boots changing bag, but was just fancying something a bit more interesting (to be honest,I think I am just bored and spending money to feel better) Blush

Sorry you're not feeling well needto I prescribe a sofa day for you with lots of hot drinks.

I had a nose bleed last night, which was weird as Ive never had one before. Wonder if thats a sign of an impending arrival? [wishful thinking emoticon]

ledkr not surprised you started to feel panicky! Make sure you take the next 5 days very easy!!

pipsicles · 22/01/2011 11:07

What an eventful night ledkr! I agree with Suzy - definitely take it easy - good excuse to get others to run around for you if you can!!!

Suzy I have decided to get the injection for the third stage, concluding that after all that pushing, I'd like to enjoy the baby with DH, rather than be waiting for my placenta to arrive!

Also re changing bags, I have the boots one (as does the rest of the world). It's okay, but I worry it might be a little small - I'm doing reusable nappies once I'm in the swing of things, so need something a bit bigger to take them back home. After promising DH that I wasn't going to go bag crazy Hmm I have since bought a nice looking handbagy red one from Verbaudet because it was cheaper with my order (although I would never recommend them to anyone as their delivery service is terrible! Still waiting for my order, placed before Christmas, to be delivered! Apparantly they are trying to sort it out, but are refusing to redeliver to an alternative address out of the area, or to a business address less than half a mile down the road! My child will be 18 by the time its snow suit finally arrives, and that maternity top...well! Angry Sorry. Rant over) and I now also have a lovely grey Kipling one which was reduced from £80 Shock (it is literally just a big bag with a changing mat in it!) to £23 and then mym mum ended up buying it for me! Grin DH is happy because it is manly enough for him, so would recommend it for that, but not at full price!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/01/2011 11:34

Thanks suzy, I agree with ledkr that paracetamol is useless, but have still taken a couple.

I have 2 changing bags and still waiting for my Boots one. Both came from ebay and seem quite good. I got a plain black silvercross one and my DM bought a beautiful bright stripey one (I love stripes for some reason) which will be my main one. It's big enough to be used as ds's emergency hospital bag and is packed and ready to go. I quite liked the bright suede and sheepskin ones on ebay (not sure of the make) but then thought about how practical they'd be and decided against them.

well, back to coughing and a spluttering Confused

cookingfat · 22/01/2011 12:14

hello all
I got this changing bag (had an amazon voucher for christmas). Not very manly for DH though Grin www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003ART7C2/ref=asc_df_B003ART7C21831035?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B003ART7C2
Grr, it's in the sale now. Hate it when that happens!

And this sling- recommended by all my mummy friends as the best one. Customer service from this company was excellent, too. www.b2boutique.co.uk/sleepywrap.html

hope you all have a good day. I've got a hot date with DH (feel if I plan something nice, baby will arrive, and is more fun than just waiting for sth to happen, anyway). Just need to stay awake now!!

Oh, and let's see some babies this weekend!!

ledkr · 22/01/2011 12:20

pipsicles that is the same as mine btw,i got blak to match my wardrobe boots etc pram and thought dh may not mind carrying it,it is really nice and roomy and sturdy,i have packed all the baby's stuff in it for the hospital and it all fits easily.
Just been setting up singstar on the ps3 for dds party and had a good old sing on it-good for the soul,im off for a nice bath now, hope i can still get out Grin

wigglesrock · 22/01/2011 12:39

Ledkr I had forgotten about the squeaky pram, god how quickly have these pregnancies gone. Even when I saw midwife yesterday it was the same one I'd seen at 16 weeks and she couldn't believe how quickly the time had gone. Hope dds birthday goes really well.

Seriously stop talking about changing bags Grin as I said they were my obsession with dds and I am finally on the road to recovery.

Need to sleep I've been taking the odd co-codamal throughout this pregnancy, its funny paracetamol are usually ok for me normally but haven't helped with anything this time.

Ran to Next earlier, dd1 has feet that grow and grow and grow!! had a nosy around the baby stuff, so small, so beautiful, so emotional!! Even Mr Wiggles was a bit foot stampy that we didn't know gender and couldn't buy anything Grin Also all the kids summer clothes are in so really put me in the mood for holiday.

PDR · 22/01/2011 13:23

Suzy I have had a couple of Pink Lining bags over the past 3 years and as they keep their value pretty well I just sell them on eBay when I'm bored and buy a new one Grin

Also got a cool one from Skip Hop which is HUGE and I am hoping to use for both baby and DS (who is still in nappies).

Wiggles funny DS's feet also seem to have grown overnight! Most embarassing at the shoe shop when he was measured as a 7.5 and I have been squeezing him into a 6 Blush. He was not keen on having them measured though and in the end the assistant let me just take the second pair (DH always insists on buying 2 pairs Hmm) home to try on which they never do as they are usually shoe nazis! Must have wanted us OUT!

We are supposed to be going out tonight but I still have a horrible cold/cough and don't really want to go, but at the same time I don't want to sit at home either Confused Am trying to persuade DH to take me out for dinner but after DS demanded food when we were out shopping we have already been out for lunch today so it's not looking likely.

No baby related news here today.

40Weeks · 22/01/2011 13:26

Oh girls am trying desperately to keep up, you are so chatty!

Love the birth plan ledkr how are you today??

delia I totally sympathise re dh being away. Mine is on a stag do in Spain when I am 36+3 and my mum is away the same weekend. What are the chances??

Hope everything is ok with everyone else, and that I haven't missed any birth news. Am thinking of you all xxx

roundthehouses · 22/01/2011 14:34

ledkr - very exciting/ scary re. your bhs! glad they calmed down and you got home safe and sound.

I am going with injection for placenta like last time, once that baby is out I don´t want any more faffing around than necessary! Also went with vit k injection and will this time, I don´t actually know if its even a choice here or not. I vaguely recall reading a bit about it, can´t remember what but i must have had some reason for my decision lol.

Not bothering with a changing bag, they are all tailored to bottle feeding and disposable nappies (tiny, slim pockets) and as I am hoping to bf and use reusables again they just don´t really suit. i find a bog standard rucksack with various pockets far more handy, or if I want to feel more girly I just take one of my bigger handbags with a couple of smaller waterproof washbag type deals inside it for changes of clothes/ nappies.

I can really recommend the calin bleu wrap sling, takes a (little) bit of practice but once you get the hang of it is fine. Never got on that well with ring slings, always found the ring quite painful on my shoulder and could never figure out what i was doing wrong.

We´re off to Ikea now, I can´t really remember what for but hopefully dh can or we will just be wandering around aimlessly. Hmm

snowangels1 · 22/01/2011 15:07

ledkr thanks alot for kind comments. I am planning on having an epidural - it's the only way I think I can get through it! So, assuming it works, I'm just worried about the bit before that as my friend was telling me she was in labour in hospital for 12 hours screaming for an epi before they gave it to her as they said she wasn'y far enough along Confused

Come home from parentcraft class. Have to say though I don't really think I leaernt anything new [smug clued up emoticon] and I was by far the furthest along from anyone else there - they were all due in march /april so I felt like a whale in comparison and was the only on in joggers/top with food down it (didn't realise until got out of house - whoops) and slip on scruffy shoes as they are the only ones that go on my fat feet. I felt really Blush about what a state I must look compared to those in lovely mat outfits and full make up Hmm

I'm really suffering now though - had to leave 45 mins early as got in too much back pain/so exhausted. Is it normal to come home and feel so tired that your body aches like you've got the flu and you can barely move? I jumped straight in the bath and stayed there for over an hour as I could not get the energy to get out. I'm now in my pjs in bed and feel like I could sleep for Britain and have a killer headache. Please reassure me if this is normal as for me I had quite an exhausting day, especailly as I slept so badly and could barely stand up to make my breakfast this morning anyway.

Re: placenta - I'm asking not for injection for same reason as needto but was wondering after what they said in class today how much you have to push it out and how much it just sort of happens without you realising. Does it make a difference with the injection on that score?

suzy I saw some nice changing bags by Cath Kidston on ebay a while ago.

needto hope you feel better soon and the ribena does the trick. when I had a head cold I did steam inhalations 4 x a day and it really did help, as did calpol saline nose spray (suitable in pg). Not as good as the hard stuff like night nurse but better than nothing.

snowangels1 · 22/01/2011 15:13

Oh, and that lovely looking mattress I sent the link to that is all natural/organic (think it was ledkr that asked) is £150 for my awkward sized cot and with a protector - which does seem pricey, but, so long as it was really supportive and comfy (so better nights sleep for all in the angels1 household) and lasts all the while LO is in it, we would spend that much.

Btw - how long are they in a cot for? (ours apparently is a large cot but not a cot bed if that helps)

ledkr · 22/01/2011 15:27

angels sounds like you got something coming. At least you are in the right place. Is dh around?
I had a long bath too,Mum came to see Ella whilst i was in there and dd didnt hear her so Mum in mood now.Mil just rang Ella to say happy birthday but then didnt ask to talk to me at all even tho dd said "do you want Mummy?" is that not a bit weird? Could have asked how i am,god she is so weird, still all makes it easier for me to gate keep next week.Feel annoyed tho.

PDR · 22/01/2011 15:43

angels our cot is large but not a cotbed and DS stayed in it until he was 2. He could have fitted a lot longer though and I know ppl with almost 3rd olds still in cots.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 22/01/2011 15:53

angels there's a good bit in Ina May about the 3rd stage, it can take longer but after you've just pushed out your baby I don't think it compares (and in some cases your body sort of pushes for you iyswim). i'm hoping that i'll be drooling over ds too much to notice really.
Sorry you had to leave early but it's good you knew everything anyway (obviously mumsnetting is the way to go!), I felt the same at my AN class if it's any consolation, plus also have the food down my top regularly Blush. Hope you relax this evening and do absolutely nothing! I'm going to do a steam inhaler, thank you Smile

cold is horrible and still in pjs, we were meant to be going to the cinema this afternoon to see Black Swan but have cancelled as just can't do it. Bet it's the last chance we have to go out just the 2 of us... Hmm

wigglesrock · 22/01/2011 16:59

angels glad your class went well, its normal to feel that tired, I almost couldn't be bothered to get out of the shower this morning Grin

Ledkr I'm having Mum and bridezilla issues at the minute, bridezilla (sister) appears to have realised moving up the wedding mightn't have been the most considerate moment of her life but it now appears its up to me to make it better for her and make her feel less guilty grrr.

Have actually arranged to go out for dinner with friends tonight. Table not booked until 9pm, oooh it's almost like we have a normal social life again Grin. But I've been very sick since last night so I'm hoping I'll still be up by then.

40Weeks · 22/01/2011 17:51

Hello again.

angels hope you're getting a nice rest. I didn't have injection 2nd time round and getting the placenta out was easy but if you are planning and epi, they might encourage the injection as you won't feel anything although they should be able to tell you when to push. I had injection 1st time round but they didn't even ask - was in theatre ready for c section but he came out by forceps in a last ditch attempt not to operate, so thinking that I needed to jab to get it out (??)

Have a nice eve wiggles hope you feel better.

Have just put change bag in wash g machine although it says not too. But it needs a good clean so would have to have bought a new one anyway. Worth a shot

WanderingSheep · 22/01/2011 17:52

9pm Wiggles? Shock that's late! I'd be snoring in my soup Grin.

Needtosleep sorry that you're not well and you're missing out on a trip to the cinema. I hope you have chance to go again before baby arrives!

Loving the birth plans Grin. I don't even think the MW read mine last time Confused although there were a few of them as my labour lasted a while and they kept changing shifts! They did everything right though Smile maybe they did read it?

Was up all night last night with a sick DD so I'm knackered today!

40Weeks · 22/01/2011 17:52

Oh and also nibbling on a choc orange with popping candy! Baby is going nuts now, tummy is hopping all about
