The hot water bottle wasn't helping either. I have some exercises to do. I have tried paracetamol but it doesn't touch it. Osteo thinks they can help the inflammation go down. with manipulation. If I can just get through the next two weeks at work I'll be fine. At home I can go for a walk/go lay down when it gets bad. I am much more mobile than some.

OP posts:
Ocarina · 20/01/2011 15:22

Fingers crossed for the exercises working Muse.

If the booking appointment is that dull I'll probably just fall asleep the way things are at the moment! TH isn't coming (I told him he could but didn't exactly encourage him - figured it would probably be a waste of his time and he agreed) so I'll watch out for the DV questions. I think the MWs probably find them dull too, or at least my sister does. I guess it has to be done though.

Scorpette · 20/01/2011 15:23

You're a bloody trouper, Muse But if it keeps on being v bad or, god forbid, worsens, you're going to have to consider if these last 2 weeks are worth it.

Scorpette · 20/01/2011 15:30

My MW is a bit odd, Occie, so don't take my experiences as the norm Grin

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/01/2011 15:40

Just got ID'd in tesco buying birthday booze for the FDH!

Have the acne I dodged as a teenager which probably explains above.

Kind clinique lady gave me many many free samples

clinique lady said my skin had so many ishooos she didn't know where to start so to try everything and come back and buy whichever product I felt worked.

Congratulations Occy! My booking in appointment was OK, the MW did it over two visits because she could tell I wasn't listening on the first one, also she snuck me in for an early scan Smile She broached domestic violence with me and I said the only violent incidents in my house were the number of dirty looks I've ben giving FDH for smelling of fags. She then made the fatal of error of saying she didn't worry too much about her clients as this is a nice area without too many social problems. I treated her to my treatise on how DV affects women uniformly across class and income groups and the dangers of making assumptions. I wonder if I will see her again????

Hope the osteopath can help the rib muser, and sorry about yours too cho. Rib problems appear to be a common occurence among those approaching the top of the list.

Happy last day in work drom!

Muser · 20/01/2011 15:45

I would be careful with Clinique stuff bitey. I feel it most closely resembles paint stripper. Nasty stuff.

If you have problem skin, what you need is a very gentle approach. What you need, is a muslin cloth. Oh yes. The kind you use on babies. Take your muslin cloth, chop it quarters. Then take a gentle cleanser with no sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate in (the stuff what makes it foam). Lush Ultrabland is a good budget option. Liz Earle is the classic, or Eve Lom if you're feeling flush. Or a face oil, Origins do a nice one that lasts a bajillion years.

You put your cleanser on, and then gently with a cloth soaked in hot water rub it off, using little circles. You get a very gentle exfoliation and your skin does not end up being dried out by too harsh a facewash. Finish up with a good splash of cold water - toner being a waste of time.

PerfectDromedary · 20/01/2011 15:50

Scorps Have you seen the same MW every time? Mine have been from the same team, but different ladies. Am impressed with the care up in your neck of the woods if they can provide appointments with the same person each time.

Muse You ARE being brave. Is it this thing at the beginning of Feb that you want to be part of?

RocAroundtheClock Booking-in appointment was dull-but-nice. Does make everything seem quite real. I did take TNB because he wanted to come, and it was a Saturday so he could.

Be prepared, though, it's a sneaky way of booking you in to have an entire ARMFUL of blood taken. And you will have to wee in a pot.

Medee · 20/01/2011 15:50

Ouch re the Osteopath, Muse. Why is the HWB verboten?

PerfectDromedary · 20/01/2011 15:56

Bitey What Muse said about spots. Clinique is Satan, and a HUUUUUUUUGE rip-off.

Muser · 20/01/2011 15:56

HWB is banned because problem is inflammation, and heat is not good for inflammation. It wasn't helping anymore anyway, so I don't mind giving it up.

On work, I have a report I want to finish writing and my event to do. I'm only doing 4 day weeks and I'll work from home a bit too. I can get through this. I'd just rather be able to wind things up properly rather than leave all of a sudden.

Fanks for your comments laydeez!

Welcome, Ocarina, so pleased you have got your win...remember...no BESH LEFT BEHIND!

And congrats on the ML littledrommergirl don't worry about emoshunul...it'll pass in about, ooh, say one morning of not having to do the commute.

scorps well done on getting the drucks from consultant, thank god you can have a bit of respite...hopefully having enough pain relief to get a bit of Kip will give you the energy to cope with the rest of it.

Triage doc confirmed that my old rib injury (salty sea dog impression) healed crookedly, and is now inflamed and frottaging my pleural lining. Whilst at hospital I coughed whilst bent over, thus doubling the intensity of the pain, so now any movement whatsoever is like being stabbed in the side with a rusty fork. Doc gave me co,coda mol, nice and strong and said to take them religiously all day everyday, and hopefully it will calm down a bit. Next meaningful pain relief comes during labour!

Meanwhile, the baybee is going doolally inside my tumtum...I thought they were supposed to run out of room and settle down a bit at this stage...it feels like it's trying to knock through an extension via mymrib cage:) I hope this doesn't mean baybee will be here for the long haul Angry

Medee · 20/01/2011 16:06

Bitey I second Muse?s recommendations. I use Liz Earle regularly, and have some Eve Lom as a treat. It never leaves the skin feeling stripped, and you definitely don?t want toner. Most contain alcohol, and even if they don?t are usually too harsh. Clinique is too harsh for even a teenage skin, and am a bit sceptical about the lady not knowing what to recommend you ? too many different options will sensitise your skin further, and not give any of them a proper chance to work.

On skincare, I?m expecting that even my mega-quick facial routine will be beyond me in the early days of motherhood ? can anyone recommend face wipes that aren?t full of nasties?

My booking in was over two appointments, and I have seen the same CMW every time ? though she warned me she?ll be on holiday at my next appointment. That said, at each appointment, there has been a different student of some sort.

Scorpette · 20/01/2011 16:06

I like your style re: the DV lecture, Bitey (my MW said she was used to men coming along with partners as very few of them worked, which made me Hmm at her intensely).

I also second Muser's advice on skincare. Muslin cloth cleansing is the fookin' shizlay. You can buy a pack of 2 muslin facial cloths from Tesco or Boots for only a few quid. I use the Organic Pharmacy Carrot Butter Cleanser which costs more than our car is worth (mind you, so does a mars bar) but one tub honestly lasts me @ a year. Actually, I've found that using a muslin cloth with any old cleanser gives pretty good results. Toner is rubbish and a rip-off.

I've always had spotty skin (pg being the first time when I haven't but have been too ill to go out loads flaunting my nice complexion, pah!) and have found these 2 tips very helpful over the years: 1) wash with lukewarm water and splash loads. I don't use cold water at the end (sorry, Muse), as the shock is stimulating and you want calming only.
2) dry your face using 2 tissues: 1 laid flat over the bottom half of your face, the other across the top. Don't wipe with them. This is to prevent as little bacteria getting onto the skin as possible. I use recycled tissues to offset my guilty over paper wastage.

Got those tips off someone who had severe acne and did the Helen Sher system (doyenne of treating acne). They really do work.

Oh, and Eve Lom Dynaspot is the best treatment I've found for dabbing on horrid spots. Spendsy, but again, last ages. I've had my current one over 2 years and is a small tube!

Muser · 20/01/2011 16:09

The best facial wipes in the world are Bourjois Medee, but I am not sure about the ingredients. I love and adore them though, they seem to have 3x as much cleaning stuff in them as anything else so leave your face feeling clean as opposed to slightly filmy.

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/01/2011 16:11

Thanks muse now that I can see that written down it sounds exactly what I need! My poor face is so angry, I just want something as gentle as possible! Will get myself to the shops again on Saturday and invest.

I am also interested as to HWB embargo?

Sorry for the rather abrupt end to my rib comment above, I was eating a creme egg at the time and the sugar rush must have distracted me! What I meant to see was that the ribs are such a problematic area for so many it makes me think there should be some kind of advance treatment or physio for them before they get to the excruciating point. Apologies for the waffling, I seem to have turned into nana Moon!

drom I feel like that about Benefit, they pretend to be "all fun" but are the source of all evil!

Scorpette · 20/01/2011 16:17

Gah, X-posting!

Cho, thank you so much, esp. when you are clearly my rival (and no doubt the victor) for the crown of Queen of Pain Wink Yay for cocodamol - hope it kicks in v fast and keeps the pain at bay. Sounds v nasty all this pleural lining irritation stuff, but at least it will (hopefully!) leave when baybee does. I have a floating rib and when that's pushed out of place it bloody hurts, so I can't begin to imagine how bad a wonky rib constantly irritating the wotsit must feel Confused Sad Try to convince the little blighter that a few days early would be fine :)

Drom, have seen same MW twice and another one once, but only because the original one was snowed in. Live in a small town, so provision is quite good.

Medee, I've been using St Ives facial wipes (sometimes migraines were so bad it hurt to wash my face!) and they are nice and non-harsh, if that helps.

PS Another one here who believes that Clinique is the work of the devil.

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/01/2011 16:19

Mega cross post! Thanks for all the advice everyone! It's a charming mixture of acne with a rash of exczema around my mouth and chin. It just screams hormones and looks so red and angry.

Does anyone use Dr Haushka stuff? Had the rose body oil for my birthday last year and loved it! I think they are known for being gentle and organic and kind, might have a little google and see what else they've got.

Scorpette · 20/01/2011 16:23

Dr Hauschka rose oil moisturiser is really good, esp. if you're a bit rash-y. Jurlique also good, but pricey.

owlbooty · 20/01/2011 16:24

Mr Owl didn't come to the MW appt which was probably for the best as the student MW extracted about 2 pints of blood from my arm and made a right mess of it (You know you are in trouble when they say "oops....sorry"). The sonographer MW had another pint yesterday although she gave me a posh biscuit so that was acceptable. And the private scan place will want a further pint next Thurs; I am going to be drained dry with arms like a pincushion.

Maybe I should start taking vials of blood and wee wherever I go to save time?

I think updiffedness is a top excuse to go nuts on the skin treats though, hoorah :) My skin is shite and requires a muslin cloth wrapped around an industrial sander.

owlbooty · 20/01/2011 16:25

PS. Bitey where is my cadbury's creme egg?

I also have the evil mouth eczema. It is shit.

Medee · 20/01/2011 16:34

Bitey not sure where you are, but if you are going for Liz Earle, it?s not widely available on the high street. Certain John Lewis?s stock it, but otherwise most easily available direct from them, or QVC.

LadyGoneGaga · 20/01/2011 16:44

Poor you, Bitey. Opposite view, I love Clinique but then I rarely get spots, seems to work well for my dry/combination skin. But I think Type 2 seems a lot gentler than the Type3/4 stuff they give to oilier skins which I have heard are harsh.

I'm just trying to slather on all the body lotion I can right now to combat the itching. I have fleas am sure. Will have to get some more Cocoa butter soon for the bump - got away with no stretchmarks (only titchy silvery ones you can't see on one patch) despite being house sized last time. Not sure whether that means they will get me this time round though. Any other second timers know?

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/01/2011 16:44

Sorry owlie! I have got some sherbet lemons if you want some of those? I told you I was turning into nana Moon!

Ivegotmrbitey · 20/01/2011 16:49

South west wales medee have to go to the big smoke (Cardiff) for anything nice! Love John Lewis, it is one of my happy places! Think I might go up on Saturday, I know JL has Dr Haushka too, and Kiehls.

Owlie what if you leave your handbag on a bus? You will get arrested on suspicion of being at least very odd and at worst a possible serial killer!

lady I am going to try a warm bath with a few drops of lavender oil to soothe the itching later. The up the duff book says lavender is OK for differs. Then I will smell like nana Moon too!

LadyGoneGaga · 20/01/2011 17:05

Good idea, Bitey. Lavender is also good for when you have sprogged too, especially if you have stitches. My midwife told me to put in a bit of milk to help it dissolve and add to the bath and really did soothe the fanjo area.
