Checking in all.

Grin for all the good scan news. Moomin hopefully you can relax a little bit now. Someone had to go back to check a couple of things but I can't remember who Blush. Anyway I hope it went well if you've been already, which you may not have!

Welcome to new people, glad to have you. Have you all added yourselves to the stats? Not sure where they are actually (looks around hopefully at the others for a point in the right direction!) but they are around somewhere!

Jasmine51 My movements are hugely erratic. Some days lots, some days none. So glad I have my doppler as it keeps be sane on the days where nothing appears to be happening! Have you had your 20wk scan yet? It could be do to with position of the placenta. Mine is at the front and so unless Bob is giving it some I don't really feel him!

Lisa Nits (shudders at the thought) I feel your pain and hope you've managed to get rid of them . Hope your mini one is feeling better as well. Sick is something I don't handle very well, blood not a problem though and we appear to get more of that!

Jbells poor you, that sounds horrible to have to deal with. Hope your mini one is feeling better as well and you managed to clear up the bedroom without too much heaving on your behalf!

Moog How did the run go? Am very impressed. I thought about swimming today but then went to bed instead . . they do say it's the thought that counts! I do need to get exercising though as I have had 2 big babies and I'll be heading for a 10lber if I don't myself out soon Confused!

8RD fingers crossed for something coming your way at work and the funding gets approved.

Supersunny ouch! I'm sure all is fine, the baby has lots of fluid to cushion any fall. You now need to take care of you and rest!

On the baby stuff front, I got the bath support kara put up and it was one of the best things we had. Also can't recommend strongly enough a bouncy chair. We had one that could lie down flat and so doubled as a bed quite a few times, especially when the baby had fallen asleep downstairs, we just transferred to our room without having to worry about moving them :). Unfortunately after 2 children it is ready for the bin so will have to invest in a new one.

Sorry if I've missed anyone, it's not intentional :)

Enjoy your evenings ladies, I'm off to study . .

Nursesunshine and Barbie come out come out wherever you are!

knackered76 · 24/01/2011 19:36

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 24/01/2011 22:27

Haven't really managed to catch up on everyone yet. Will do so tomorrow.

Think I managed to scare my unborn baby last night! I felt it on the surface of my tummy so I put my hand on to try and feel it move. I must have pressed my fingers in a little hard because the next thing I know it's jumping a mile, making me jump, then it dissappeared where I couldn't find it (behind my spine maybe?!). I never knew it was possible to scare a baby in the stomach!

Right I really am going to bed now. Night all x

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 22:32

bananarama I am right now trying to locate a video of a YUMMY daddy demonstrating a sling like a moby - I challenge anyone not to enjoy watching it - will post as soon as I find it...

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 22:41

bananarama
here you go.
So - this is a stretchy wrap - like a moby.
As you can see from the (very nice) video, it involves quite a bit of fabric and takes a little bit of time, but once you've done it a few times, it's very easy.
Wrapping newborns is a brilliant way to sling them, as they feel completely cuddled into you, you can feel (and see) them breathing and you are completely hands free Grin. They also support the baby's back all the way up (unlike a lot of other baby carriers which don't)and so don't compress the spine.

Using a stretchy wrap like a moby is a bit different to the way you use woven wraps. They are a bit easier to get used to, but unfortunately are only good to use for the first few months. After this, you would need to sell it on and buy either a woven wrap or a different type of sling. It's not really a problem as they sell really well on ebay - particularly hugabubs Wink

Hope some of that made sense Smile

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 22:42

Sorry - forgot to say that wrapping newborns is also great for colic and very calming as it holds them snugly, and they can hear/feel your heartbeat which is very soothing Smile

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 22:43

Try the link again

bananarama05 · 24/01/2011 23:02

sasa thank you thank you thank you, that video has brightened up a dull monday night Grin he's nice, where do I get one?!

Good video though and you've convinced DP if it can be done in under 2 minutes it can't be that hard.

I have to say I wouldn't begrudge £20 for the first few months and could decide if it was for me and then decide whether to get another woven wrap.

Thanks for the advice, I'd been a bit put off after seeing a lady in town on my lunchbreak with the most complicated wrap type contraption I've ever seen. But am feeling much more "I could do that" and the benefits certainly stack up the more you think about it!

Sarahmumtobe · 25/01/2011 08:46

Yayee 'moomin for good scan. I've got mine in an hour and a quarter-very excited and still a bit scared in case something wrong! Also hoping they will tell us the sex-I think it's a boy but that is not based on anything just a feeling!

jasmine51 · 25/01/2011 10:35

sasa I saw a women on the tube with one of those slings or something similar (it seemed to have a buckle on one side) and it must have taken her at least 10 minutes to take it off then another 15 to put it back on, elbowing everyone in the process. I think she needed lessons from the guy in the video!

Still no kicking - thought I could feel something during aquanatal last night but might have been the beans on toast I ate before hand. Still got the electric shots down the nerves though, wonder what those are.

Have a good day everyone

x

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 25/01/2011 10:41

My vote for essential kit is maternity pads. Extremely not glamorous(sp?) or cute, but very much needed. I didn't realise I'd end up using them while I was in labour so by the time DS had arrived I was caught a bit short. [bblush] I did see mothercare have packs of 48 though, so may be investing at some point.
I'll also be making sure there is an emergency supply of formula in the cupboard, because the memory of breastfeeding turning to all hell in the middle of the night and having nothing else to give poor wee DS has left me slightly scarred. I did get a breast pump after that, which I still have, but I need the safety of that back up.

Hope all the kids are vomit and nit free today and the scans go well. [bgrin]

BarbieLovesKen · 25/01/2011 11:19

Hi all,

Have just spent ages catching up on posts but have now forgotton who has said what.

Lisa sorry but laughed out loud at your nit story Grin. Fabulous way with words.

Moomin so delighted that your scan went well. I hope your feeling well.

SuperSunny and 8rd how are you both? I keep thinking of you and whole redundancy thing and am really, really crossing everything that something pops up for each of you very soon.

Sorry to hear about all the sick small people Sad.

Its ds's 1st birthday today! Smile, a year ago about now he was just 4 hours old. It flew. PML.. had someone told me then that Id be almost 6 months pregnant in a years time...

jbells · 25/01/2011 11:32

ahhh happy birthday to your lil boy :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/01/2011 11:42

Aww Happy birthday to BarbieLovesKen's DS :)

Sarahmumtobe · 25/01/2011 12:33

Just a quick pop in and to say all went well at the scan and we are having a boy!

crumbletastic · 25/01/2011 12:37

Woot, great news. The amount of boys v girls must be evening up a bit now. Is it time for an updated stats list to track this better? My scan is tomorrow

LisasCat · 25/01/2011 13:19

Warning to all South Oxon mummies - turns out DD's sickness is a 'village thing', i.e. all the children up our end of the village seemed to have it simultaneously (with 3 of them on our street all starting the vomiting at 3.30am - it's like Children of the Corn!!!).

The problem is DD played with the neighbourhood children on Friday but then was sick on Sunday night, so there's clearly a 2 day incubation period before symptoms show. In that time she'd spent the weekend playing with friends from nursery in town, so we've obviously now spread the lurgy to the townies.

So to you other Soxon mums.....it's coming to a village near you. Dun-dun-DUHUHUHUN.

AlmightyCitrus · 25/01/2011 13:21

Congrats Sarahmumtobe

I got my full amnio results yesterday and everything is fine. My next scan is in 2 weeks, but I don't want to know the sex. I like the suspense!

takethatlady · 25/01/2011 13:28

Congratulations sarahmum2b!! So excited for my scan (13 days to go 13 days to go 13 days to go ...). Definitely would like to see the updated stats list and see how many we've got of each - I still think there are more boys than girls.

And happy birthday to your baby barbie :) My friend pointed out to me that I am going to lose my birthday when the baby is born (it's due a week before my birthday), and that no-one will celebrate my 30th because it will be the baby's first birthday at the same time. Weirdly I don't care at all Smile

How's everyone else? I just got uninvited to go bowling with some friends because they don't want me to risk 'damaging the baby'. Not quite sure why it's their decision and not mine, and a little bit peeved at the idea they think I'm happy to damage the baby but they're going to make sure I don't do it Hmm. We're just going for lunch now, but FGS!!!

takethatlady · 25/01/2011 13:29

Congrats almightycitrus! Like your name, by the way :)

mrswantstobeamum · 25/01/2011 13:31

Hello ladies,

Thanks so much to the non first-timers for your advice re baby kit. It really helps to get your opinions as it can be a bit overwhelming contemplating what to buy! I haven't bought a lot yet, but we did get a Moby wrap as several of my friends swear by them. They look great for newborns, and I thought it might be a good way to get a snuggle in whilst trying to get some housework done. We were also given a Snugli baby carrier (www.snugli.org/) by a friend, which should be good after the Moby is no longer practical.

I must admit that we bought what I thought was a ridiculously expensive changing bag in the States at $70 (www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3908801 - but in a more neutral colour scheme.). It doesn't scream "baby" and has compartments for everything, but what made me agree is that DH basically begged for it and swore he would carry it if we bought it. I also bought a Boppy in the States (www.boppy.com - they are always on baby shower gift lists in the States, but I'm not sure if they're sold here), and a few gender-neutral clothes, but we're waiting until after the next scan to buy more (3 Feb, hurry up!).

I will definitely try to get what I can on e-bay and have also heard that the NCT sales are great for good deals on second-hand items.

I think I must be pretty sensitive to movements as I've been feeling them since around week 14 - just the little flutters at first, and now stronger flutters, plus occasional rolls, kicks, and maybe even punches. But nothing has been strong enough for DH to feel yet, which I feel bad about as he also hasn't heard the heartbeat (I still can't pick it up myself on the Angelsounds).

Moufflon, so sorry about your terrible news. I can only offer my sympathy, as I can?t imagine how difficult what you?re going through must be.

Barbie, happy birthday to your DS! Are you having a party or anything?

Sarah, congrats on having a boy! I'm getting so impatient to find out the gender of ours. I've been getting boy vibes for quite a while, but have now had two dreams in which it was a girl, so who knows!

Almighty, great that everything is fine with your little bean!

I hope that all the poorly children are feeling better!

mrswantstobeamum · 25/01/2011 13:32

Also, just a reminder to do your pelvic floor exercises! It makes me laugh thinking about everyone doing them whilst catching up on our thread. Grin

jasmine51 · 25/01/2011 14:09

Its official motherofsnortpigs has the most adorable brood...good to meet you today. Lisa when we have an Oxon meet up we'll contact you ...as long as you promise not to bring your village lurgy...nits...etc etc!

Hey it's just a week until my first 20 week scan...2 weeks until my second one...and 3 weeks til my third ha ha.

Not much left at the baby shop now, most of the stock has gone to a local charity thank goodness, couldnt bear to see it going in skips.

Right, time to limber up for yoga class..
