Moog72 · 24/01/2011 11:21

Don't know what that strange number appeared for in my post?!

jasmine51 · 24/01/2011 12:02

Moog ghosties!

Can anyone describe to me what early kicks feel like. Not general movement but actual kicks. I keep getting quite sharp stabs, almost like electric nerve shots. The location of these varies but today everything seems to have dropped quite low (unnerving dragging feeling) so the stabs are just above pubic line. Have also felt blunter feelings too but these are specifically sharp and stabbing. They make me jump! They dont fit with other peoples descriptions of gas bubbles or tickles.

Supersunnyday - hope you are feeling okay after your bump.

Jasmine Shock at your 3 appointments! Talk about disorganised!

Lisascat - eek Nits!! Still at least you have got rid of them Grin at your torture methods! DS's nursery have had a case of nits, I dread him getting them as he has loads of goegeous thick hair that he hates have washed, brushed or cut!

Sarahmumtobe · 24/01/2011 15:14

supersunny sorry to hear about your fall but glad the emergency obstetrician was reassuring. I guess they have a lot of shock protection with all the amniotic fluid so am sure all is fine-just hope you're not too sore.

Sorry to hear of those of you with vomiting daughters too and wish them a speedy recovery.

I'm going to check out the asda baby event this afternoon although will probably return tomorrow after scan. I've only felt a few sporadic movements low down but when I checked my notes saw that I had an anterior placenta at 12 week scan so guess that's why I haven't felt loads of movement? Starting to get a little nervous about scan - just really want baby to be ok, but also still very excited!
Woohoo Jasmine on the 3 scan appointments!

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 15:28

Just marking my place - haven't managed on in a few days so need to catch up a bit.

Hope everyone is well Smile

mrswantstobeamum · 24/01/2011 15:32

Also marking my place and trying to catch up! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

sasamaxx · 24/01/2011 15:50

Moufflon so sorry to hear the awful news about your friend Sad

Moog sure - I'll post some sling links tonight when kiddies in bed and I have more than one hand to type withSmile

bananarama will chat about the moby when I get on later tonight Smile

Jasmine I do think you need to replace all mattresses - not just the cot one Smile

Any word from nursesunshine yet??

OK neesd to go - kids are driving me mental, constantly pressing buttons on the laptop and losing my typing - grrrrr

8rubberduckies · 24/01/2011 16:08

Hi all, just took me half an hour to catch up on all your posts since I was last on here Friday!

Mouffloncake so, so, sorry to hear about your sad news about your friend, thinking of you.

Supersunnyday thanks for your thoughts. My boss has told me that he will know by the end of Feb if he has a post available to redeploy me to. He has put in a bid for some funding from the local council to run an outreach advice project in a neighbouring deprived area, it's a long time to wait to find out but fingers crossed. Meanwhile the govt announced on Friday they are cutting their funding for definite to my project. 500 free debt advisers across the country going at the time they are most needed by society... how unbelievable Sad. All in this together my arse.

Anyway, back to baby stuff Grin. I would say that the thing I bought that was the most expensive and unneccesary was a swanky change bag (£70 Blush). I think a large bag does the job fine, but the one thing I did find useful was the little built-in coolbag, for bottles of expressed milk if dropping ds off with a babysitter or out with his Dad, or for food once he was weaned. My change bag has bit the dust due to a vomit-related incident (yes, his aim is that good), so I will be buying a small cool bag and a Primark bag for a fraction of the price this time.

I still use our monitor for ds in the evenings when we are downstairs, and would say it is a useful buy, but just get a basic one. Another thing we never used were baby sleeping bags, we just used cellular blankets (loads cheaper and much easier to regulate baby's temperature).

If you're planning ahead, blackout curtains are a must for Summer 2012 if you value your sanity and don't want your 1-year-old waking up when the sun does (i.e. 4.30am!)

My lower back / bump is HELLISHLY painful at the moment, think I'm in for a rough ride with the SPD this time around Sad. After a morning of baking cakes and running around after 2 toddlers Saturday morning I couldn't get off the sofa for three hours! Not sure how I'm going to cope, there is no option for rest with a 2 year old! Am just about to buy myself a big pillow thing for sleeping at night. Bring on the pelvic girdle Blush.

takethatlady · 24/01/2011 17:23

Hi ladies,

I have just caught up on all your posts and promptly forgotten what I was going to say to each of them Blush Smile

Sorry for those who've got sick babies and toddlers and doubly sorry for 8rd and redundancy. Angry at the stupid sodding government Angry Angry. In this together my arse indeed. I hope this leads to you finding some way to spend lots of time with your baby before being launched on a new, dream career Smile ... have you asked your bank for a mortgage holiday? We've asked ours (2 weeks ago - no reply).

supersunny eek at your fall and bumping the bump. So glad all is okay - I'm really sure it is.

sarahmum2b and jasmine51 I haven't felt any movement either. At 15 weeks I thought I did because I felt a feeling in my belly like a trapped nerve in my eye for a few minutes, but it has never happened again. I've felt precisely nothing since. But I heard the heartbeat last Tuesday and the Friday before that and had a scan at A&E the Sunday before that ... I also had an 'anterior low' placenta on my 12 week scan so I'm putting it down to that. Wish the baby would kick though!

Hope everybody else is well. I had a meeting with HR today, who weren't very helpful about me wanting to work 3 long days during the week (plus Sundays) to make up my hours. Considering I currently come to campus 3 days a week and work 2 days from my home, I thought it would be fine, but the lady said I would have to make a flexible working hours request and it might be a problem. This is a bit stupid since absolutely nobody in academia sits in their office 5 days a week - you have to be here for teaching and meetings but marking, prep, research, writing, attending conferences, etc, can all happen at 2 o'clock in the morning in your pants for all anyone cares! But as soon as you're having a baby the HR people are determined to make you clock your time.

Luckily I spoke to my Head of Department who said to stuff HR and she'd just make sure I was timetabled how I want to be Smile. So I'm feeling lucky again now.

8rubberduckies · 24/01/2011 17:32

TTL unless they can come up with a good reason why flexible hours would be unworkable for your post you should get it; sounds like in your line of work they can't refuse really, as long as you're there for lectures.

Wish we could get a holiday for outgoings, but sadly we rent, so no chance of our landlord letting us off that!

moomin156 · 24/01/2011 18:05

Hello everyone.....just catching up on about a week of news. I wonder where nurse sunshine is too.

Had my 20 week scan last thursday, all looks good and thankfully no other 'soft marker' indicators for Downs so thankfully no need for further investigations, obviously they cant rule Downs out from a scan but the chances look slimmer :)

Bump has suddenly expanded, cant hide it at work under uniform anymore, may have to be looking at larger ones soon. DH got to feel kicks on Sunday which was amazing as i have felt them for about a week now.

We still havent bought any baby stuff......been looking at prams and still think we like the babystyle oyster, but its harder than choosing the new car. Mom bought us our first babygrows this weekend....ho gorgeous are they .

Anyway.......hope everyone is well today. One born everyminute on later, cant wait.....

CMH1stbaby · 24/01/2011 18:23

just checking in, hi all, feeling rough with morning sickness still at the mo but everything else seems to be ticking along. My DH is desperate to feel a kick but they don't seem quite big enough for that yet! really interested to read all the advice about what to buy and not to buy.. i think I need to start making some lists and working out a budget!! I could easily get carried away!

bye all

ps. i'm not brave enough to watch one born every minute now that I'm actually pregnant - I loved it while TTC though! xx

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/01/2011 18:25

I second a bouncy chair - we had ours from when DS was born and it was a Godsend. I did use our baby bath a lot - use less water that way. I had a bath support as well and it really made bathing DS and waching his hair so much easier - I was always petrified of dropping him!
The most useless thing I bought was this Mamma Lullaby nightlight. It was impossible to fix to the cot and the recording function had poor quality playback - really crackly! DS did play with a lot when he was much older.

jbells · 24/01/2011 18:30

oh i meant to add that altho i found a bouncy chair a godsend and used it loads if it has a vibrate button dont use it to early, i remember putting it on for the first time and DD projectile vomited her milk everywhere didnt even attempt it for months afta that lol

and also used a baby bath for ages to, only stopped using it when DD became much too big, still have it and will use it agen

moomin156 · 24/01/2011 18:40

kara what bath support did you get??

KaraStarbuckThrace · 24/01/2011 18:43

It was sort of like this one, Moomin. Except I bought it in Asda so it was cheaper! It is in the Asda Baby event.

moomin156 · 24/01/2011 18:45

thansk kara ive seen that one and some that are made of foam or towelling.....think i will get one as my bath is a big one in a small room with very little space around it. Think safety is important.......that and the kitchen sink :)

bananarama05 · 24/01/2011 18:52

jasmine I've been getting something very similar. Usually when I get in bed of a night and lie on my left side lately. DP actually asked if I was ok the other night I was jumping so much, it felt like bubs was kicking a nerve every few seconds, very odd!

supersunny poor you on the bruising, hope you're taking things easy and resting up.

TTL good plan on the mortgage holiday, we're thinking of asking the question too but have a 2nd charge on our mortgage so not sure if we'll be able to do it. You don't ask you don't get though eh?

moomin fab news on the scan and lack of markers, really pleased for you, hope you can relax a little. We've not bought anything yet either, didn't win anything we bid on on ebay but it all went for loads more than I wanted to pay so not too bothered! My mums revealed she's still got my old cot bed tucked away and has said we can have it if we want it which is quite nice :)

I'm undecided on a bouncy chair, purely because I can just see our 12 month old overgrown puppy adopting it by the time June is here!

sasamaxx hurry back with your sling wisdom :)

Jasmine2011 · 24/01/2011 18:56

A special hello to Jasmine51 and motherofsnortpigs...you are the first mums I've chatted to on here! I'm really looking forward to moving to Didcot and making the place all homely ready for the baby. Had a check up at the docs today and everything was fine. Could realy hear the baby's heart beat this time. Jasmine51 ...I thought Jasmine was a more unusual name but it seems that really isn't the case at all. I've liked it as a name for a girl since going abroad and smelling the flower Jasmine in the heat...amazing. motherofsnortpigs ...A South Oxon meet up sounds like a great idea :)

Clarkiee · 24/01/2011 19:13

Oh dear lisacat and jbells quite a few kids at school have been off with sickness and dihorrea. And the two colleagues I work with closely- not caught anything yet- touch wood.

Thank Moog72 saw my sister in law yesterday and she said 'wow your bump has grown' Grin. Been to the docs for Gaviscon tonight- ainiseed flavour, quite nice. I've got to try and stay sat up after my tea- but its the time I love a nice nap!

Twas me asking about essentials list moog and 8rubber. Got some (unused Blush) breast pads from my sis in law. Gonna get a cheap big bag for changing bag, but good tip about cool bag. Think I'm going to get a standard monitor. Cheers for advice Wink

Glad your scan went well millie.

Clarkiee · 24/01/2011 19:19

Got my baby bouncers at Asda event (thanks kara) thanks for the vibrate tip jbells ha ha Grin. Those baby support in the bath things look good- cheaper and take up less space when storing them away. Going to go to the 'big' Asda near me- see if I can get a few more essentials.

DH and I had decided on our double buggy (baby jogger) but hadn't bought it. But just had a call from someone I used to work with- her daughter is selling a v good condition double buggy for £60 (Maclaren)! Seems too good to refuse really.

bananarama05 · 24/01/2011 19:20

Clarkiee I cannot believe you just said aniseed Gaviscon is quite nice, mad woman! Tell me no-one else actually thinks this Grin

Clarkiee · 24/01/2011 19:25

ha ha- well 'nice' was an exageration really, but its tastes better than the standard one I tried yesterday

Clarkiee · 24/01/2011 19:31

Ah Mini Boden has some really cute clothes look (wish I was a bit richer though)
