Jasmine we are scan buddies for your first one, mine is in a week too!

TTL I went bowling a month ago with some friends, and no-one commented except a guy I hardly know. It didn't even cross my mind that it could be an issue, unless I was overstretching myself, but I felt really self-concscious after his comments. I used the lightest ball, honest! It was also fun, and I don't usually find any sort of exercise fun, so if I didn't think that it might aggravate my SPD / sciatica now I would go again! Antoher friend of mine who is due this week opted out just in case her waters broke in front of everyone!

8rubberduckies · 25/01/2011 14:52

Oops, pressed "go" too early, what I meant to say ttl is that if you feel up to it and don't strain yourself you should just bloody go!

takethatlady · 25/01/2011 15:09

Thanks 8rd, I feel completely fine! The more I say 'I want to go bowling, I'm totally happy to go' the more I get raised eyebrows and 'no, no, you've got to think of the baby' and 'if it was my first child I wouldn't be risking it'. Nuts! These are people with no children, btw, so maybe that accounts for it Smile

AlmightyCitrus · 25/01/2011 15:27

How is bowling going to hurt your baby...unless they use you as the ball?! Some of the things people come out with are insane!

8rubberduckies · 25/01/2011 15:33

Friends with no experience of pregnancy do come out with the oddest things sometimes! I think I've mentioned on here before about a friend who has told me on countless occasions (and other pregnant friends) that labour is just like bad period pains!!! Shock Shock [bshock] Shock

sasamaxx · 25/01/2011 15:53

bananarama glad you enjoyed it Grin
There are loads of benefits - in the video, he has the baby in a cradle carry, but you can have them in a tummy to tummy carry too - you still put the sling on in exactly the same way. It's so cute when he kisses the baby's head and puts the hand inside - awwwww.

Jasmine51 - firstly - since when were there 2 Jasmines???? I'm all confused now lol.
That video sounds dreadful - you would think that if you were making a video about using slings, you would be fairly good at putting them on/taking them off. Not very helpful - she should def be watching some videos herself lol

Thannks for the pelvic floor exercises reminder mrswantstobeamum - I'm doing them right now Grin - Fantastic that you got a moby - get watching the lovely daddy video ASAP lol.

8rubberduckies bad period pains indeed Grin - I WISH!!!

sasamaxx · 25/01/2011 16:11

OK moog - links to slings.
I can't remember which ones I linked to originally, but here are some really good ones:

Firstly,
Since people have been discussing mobys, there are stretchy wrap slings eg moby, hugabub or any of the other brands - quite often TK Maxx get a load of stretchy wraps in ;)
These are great - I explained a bit about them above, but they have limited usefulness and when the baby gets heavier, they aren't supportive enough any more. Typically this would be after the first few months. They carry the baby in the correct position and really cuddle your baby right onto you.

connecta - this is a simple to use buckle carrier, based on the mei tai design but with no long straps to deal with. It's good from newborn and has a fairly long useful life - it can be worn on the front or the back. It's def good until about 12-18 months. After this time, you may be better off getting something a bit more padded and structured and that really moves the weight onto your hips. Some people do use them longer, though. It's great value and is an excellent alternative to all the main 'crotch danglers' out there.

Next up, the more sturdy SSCs - ergo, yamo and manduca.
These are better when the baby is a bit bigger, so lots of people switch to these later on. That said, though, ergo and manduca (I think) do an infant insert which apparently makes them more suited to babies. They still seem a bit big and substantial for little babies to me though. Although these may look more similar to high street carriers, they all hold the baby in the proper seated position and can be used on the front and the back up to pretty hefty weights.

For the keen sling users, there are mei tais and woven wraps - these involve tying knots and things - they aren't difficult but do take a bit of practice - I can link to these too if anyone is interested. Since they involve long straps and knots etc, they are far more adjustable and versatile than any of the other carriers - but they aren't as easy to use.

For general sling info, the slingguide website is really useful.

sasamaxx · 25/01/2011 16:19

Oh and can I just point out that on ebay, there are LOADS of fake ergos so you need to be really careful if thinking of buying one from there Smile

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/01/2011 18:14

I am seriously thinking about getting a ring sling! I have bookmarked that sling website, Sasamax, thanks!

sasamaxx · 25/01/2011 18:33

Good plan kara - I forgot to mention ring slings - they are great and really quick to use, but can be a bit tricky to get the hang of. There are loads of youtube videos to help out though Smile

Clarkiee · 25/01/2011 19:04

Crap day today Sad- I cried at work for the first time in- god can't even remember when!

takethatlady · 25/01/2011 19:09

Oh no clarkiee are you okay? I hope it was just hormonal and that you're at home now and can chill out ...

Wow sasamaxx! Don't know if I'm going to get a sling or anything but that's pretty amazing information! Thanks!

8rd I've never given birth (this is DC1) so I can't comment - but I'm definitely not expecting it to be like bad period pains! PMSL Grin

misshoohaa · 25/01/2011 19:42

Sigh - does anyone else feel like they have been pregnant FOREVER and June is still so far away?

Feeling a bit down today, and poorly. Quite lightheaded and nausea too.

Sorry for negative post, loving the sling chat thou! Grin

CitizenOscar · 25/01/2011 20:42

Thanks for all the sling tips. I can definitely see myself getting at least one, whereas the very thought of buggies makes me stressed (just choosing the right
one seems so tricky).

BarbieLovesKen · 25/01/2011 20:43

Snigger at "bad period pains" Hmm

Thanks all for your lovely birthday wishes. Had a lovely evening, few family members over for cake and a mini type party. Very small, both dc are sick so am going to take them to soft play centre for a treat when feeling better.

TTL you really do loose your birthday when you've kids. I honestly forgot mine this year Blush, when dh handed me a card and present I was wondering had I forgotton an aniversary or something!!!.

Misshooaa and Clarkee really hope you both are ok???

Misshoohaa, yep, I feel like I've been pregnant forever but then Im the most miserable pregnant person ever as I do not enjoy it at all - tis a means to an end for me to be honest, adore the babies just dread how they get here. Actually so much so that I probably would have went on to have a forth - except I hate pregnancy so so much that I just cant bear doing it again. That said, its like I have been pregnant forever - pregnant December 08 - mid Feb 09 (then mc), pregnant again with ds April 09 - had ds end of Jan 2010 and exactly 7 months later, 25th August 2010 am pregnant again Grin. Anyway, what Im trying to say in a long winded, rambling way is I can completely sympathise with you.

BarbieLovesKen · 25/01/2011 20:44

fourth Blush

CitizenOscar · 25/01/2011 20:45

Sorry people are feeling a bit down. For me, I
think I'm slightly in denial. Can't feel much so just getting fatter. Hoping the scan in a couple of weeks
will jumpstart the excitement a bit...

moomin156 · 25/01/2011 21:03

Big Fat Gypsy Wedding........i love it.
hope everyone ok today

BarbieLovesKen · 25/01/2011 21:11

love it soo Moomin. Have it series linked to record Blush.

Meant to say Almightycitrus, huge congratulations on your amnio results Smile.

sasamaxx · 25/01/2011 22:20

Barbie I so feel like that - I'd love to have a fourth but this pregnancy is the first time I've considered stopping at three - it's just such terribly hard work Sad

Glad people enjoying the sling chat - there's nothing like having one to pop them into when you can't put them down or stop them crying, need to protect them from a curious toddler or when you just want a nice cuddle Smile

BarbieLovesKen · 25/01/2011 22:35

Thanks sasamaxx, its nice to know others feel like me and that Im not some awful, abnormal mother type.

bananarama05 · 25/01/2011 23:07

Thanks again for all the sling advice sasamaxx I'm 99.9% positive we'll be getting one, still loving the look of the moby but will check out tk maxx first!

Bah I've read everything everyone said and now forgotten it all, had a bit of a day like that, woke up thinking it was Sunday - HOW gutted?!

moomin big fat gypsy wedding has made me a little sad this evening. Just got me thinking. There's how many 1000's of people waiting for a house out there, those lot don't even want one, they're quite happy with what they've and the council are trying to kick them out into houses! And they have a valid point when they say "where the bloody hell are we meant to go"?! Tescos really have bought most of the spare land in this country Hmm Ok I'm overthinking this...think I need to take my soppy hormonal self off to bed!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 25/01/2011 23:08

Misshoohaa - I would love to fast forward to June.
And hopefully DS will be potty trained by then Grin

8rd - next time you see that friend, kick them hard on the shin and then explain you were just tickling them. Hopefully they will get the idea Grin

mouffloncake · 26/01/2011 00:13

Just dropping in to say hello :)

Ugh. My friends murder is just hiting the news. Decided best way to cope is to ignore all papers for a while.

Had antenatal check today & was amazed that bp was 100/60, thought it would have been higher.
Get to have a bonus scan in 4 weeks (will be 25wks) as they are keeping an eye on my cervix folowing LLETZ back in 2007. Rather excited about bonus scan!!

Saw BFGW for the 1st time tonight - woah!!
Sending tissues & hugs to the randomly emotional, fun times huh.

Does anybody know where to get the information on MRSA & CDiff rates for each hospital?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 26/01/2011 07:41

Moufflon - yes avoiding papers is probably best at the moment.Sad

Yey for your bonus scan!!

What's BFGW [thickie emoticon]
