Hi

Still whispering the good news but is there anyone else out there wishing they had made the most of the Stilton this Christmas? [Wink]

Great, that is what I believe I will do too, whilst avoiding just alcohol, soft cheese, raw eggs and pate. Not sure I have ever eaten shark!

feralgirl · 23/01/2011 20:35

I definitely remember eating soft cheese and home-made mayo which was probably not terribly wise in retrospect! I've never been a fan of pate (ugh, meat splodge) so that wasn't an issue.

I do like meaty fish though, and shark is lovely, but it's got really high levels of mercury so is not good.

feralgirl · 23/01/2011 20:39

Ooh, Belgina, I've just noticed that you had a hb with dc3 and are planning another; tell all, I am really keen to do a hb but need as many people as poss to tell me how amazing it is to give me the confidence!

belgina · 23/01/2011 21:38

Sad I'm bleeding again. Much heavier. I use the mooncup and in 2h it's half full. On the other hand my sickness was so much worse today. It's so frustrating and confusing to go from getting fresh hope to seeing that hope dashed again

feralgirl my hb was very quick. I had 2 easy hospital births and always liked the idea of a hb, so went for it. As it was, it was very very quick and not the calm relaxing affair I had in mind. It only took 2 h from start to finish. It took me about 45min to decide that I was definitely in labour. DH noticed my labour was definitely progressing very quickly, so he phoned labour ward back to see where the mw was. ( he was panicking a bit). They heard me screaming in the background (I completely lost control due to the speed) and sent an ambulance so I didn't give birth on my own. The ambulance came and insisted on taking me to the hospital. I couldn't move anyway due to the strength of the contractions. DH kept telling them that we're having a hb and so we're not coming and that they're only there for in case I give birth before the cmw, who was on her way, arrives. By that point I started the urge to push come on and I'm holding back. Not much later the cmw arrived. As soon as I heard her voice I started pushing. She grabbed some gloves and caught dd2 Grin while all of this happened my mum (who was there to look after the dcs while I'm in labour) woke up and the dcs woke up and all came down. So I ended up giving birth with DH, my mum, the dcs, the mw and an ambulance crew in the room.

Not quite what I had planned! 2 h after the birth of my placenta the mws went and it was lovely to be at home and get into my own lovely bed with dd2. Despite it all going a touch different than planned I'd definitely do it again. I don't think I'd have made the hospital either. Or if I did, dd would have been born in the corridor or something, lol.

Late joiner here, due 27th September, 35 yo, my first 30 mins on mumsnet so need to learn the abbreviations quickly! First child, positive test Thu week ago, 1st dr appt on Tue but nothing much to tell, just waiting for the referrals to come through. Keen to book midwife appt asap but don't know where just yet. Hope dr has not forgotten to send referral? Keep reading the books to check my symptoms, mainly enlarged chest, no desire for coffee (unusual for me), cramps have stopped and no real morning sickness yet. Told parents on skype this morning which was exciting, a few of my friends have already guessed but I have not confirmed to them, hard to keep up Jan detox pretext. Will keep tabs on any advice and your experiences.

Flossish · 24/01/2011 10:01

Hi everyone. Congratulations! Smile Can I join in please? Am a MN poster of old but kind of broke the addiction after DD was born but when pg it's so nice to have these groups isn't it?

This is DC3 for me, fingers crossed. I have DS who is 6, DD who is 3 and will be very nearly 4 by the time this one is due. Her and baby's due date was two days difference! Am hoping I won't go the 12 days over this time and have to be induced.

I'm just turned 30 last month, Dh is 31. He hasn't been overly delighted but seems to be mostly coming round. Am 7 + 2 weeks and not seeing midwife till the 1st of March! Another worry wort here but fingers crossed all will be well for us all. Smile

Flossish · 24/01/2011 10:02

ah - due date, knew I'd missed somthing. It's the 10th.

Misty9 · 24/01/2011 11:30

Congrats to the new joiners :)

belgina hope you're ok?

Newsflash - I've started to feel nauseous! quite glad in a way, but the thought of food makes me feel queasy (but keeping it down at the moment). So lovely to have hubby home at the weekends as he's being amazing with fetching me whatever I fancy eating Grin

Now hit the 7 weeks mark and feeling I'm starting to settle into being pregnant; good job as this bun-baking takes AGES!! Only 5 more weeks until the magic 12 week mark, and so relieved we've had an early scan to reassure me a little.

I do need to stop looking at sad stories about MMC - I even kept off the forums for a couple of days and I noticed this helped me to calm down...so I may try to ration my forum-ing for a few weeks.

I'm also quite enjoying it being me and Mr S's little secret (very little at the moment!) and now the initial euphoria/panic has tapered off, I can imagine I might keep it secret until it's a bit more obvious, even beyond the 12 week scan :)

Is anyone else finding it hard to sleep with heavy boobs? Wink I'm waking up most days with a cricked neck! Not sure why though...

Hope all are having happy healthy bun-baking :) xx

yoshimigalloway · 24/01/2011 13:05

hello.

I went to my doctors appt this morning. he just took my blood pressure and worked out a due date of 22/09/11. When I told him about the brown discharge/ spotting he just said that it could be normal and to see how it goes. When I pushed him on it he said that they have to treat it as theatened miscarriage and to just see what happens. he tested my urine for infections and there were none. He then felt my stomach to see if it was tender which it wasn't. I got my midwifes number and have to just wait now.

Because I'm an idiot I went and bought another pregnancy test (just the cheapest chemist one) and it still says pregnant. So i'm tiny bit re-assued. When I got home went to the loo (no2 sorry) and when I wiped there was a little bit bit brown discharge. So I wonder if that could be something to do with it?

I do have a bit of back ache today low down on my back - anyone else have this?

x

Flossish · 24/01/2011 13:16

Yoshi, I had an 'implantation' type bleed at around 6 weeks with both my previous pg. This time I haven't had anything.
I've not done at all well at keeping anything quiet, all my closest friends know and my work colleagues. I work as a nurse and hadn't told that many but somehow the 'secret' seems to be out. With strong smells and things I need to stay away from at times it isn't the easiest job to keep quiet in.
I had the flu jab when I first found out. I decided I had two other reasons to have it (DS and DD) and didn't intentionally think beyond that. Am glad I did.
Also feeling very sick - no food inspires me although while eating it I feel wonderful. It is the only time I feel well, the rest of the time I feel as though I may be sick!

yoshimigalloway · 24/01/2011 13:28

Flossish, I wish I had some symptoms. Everyone just just laughs and says you just wait! I forgot to ask about the flu jab when I was there, I have to go back in anyway as the doctor forgot to give me my prescription for folic acid, although I am already taking the pregnancy vitamins.

belgina · 24/01/2011 14:01

yoshimi surprised your GP didn't refer you to EPAU. Mine did for exactly the same symptoms and so did another GP in another area in another pg. See if your cmw will refer you and in fact a lot of EPAUs take self referrals too, so it might be worth giving your local one a ring. I self refered a few years ago, sadly that pg ended in a misc. However brown loss in nowhere near as bad a symptom as fresh red loss. Sometimes it comes from the cervix, often after sex. Could that be it?

Lol I remember being keen on getting symptoms and getting bigger in my 1 st pg. The next few I just dreaded it. I enjoyed my 1st pg, but the next few were horrible: dd1: bleeds, but not this much this early, dd2: horrendous PGP/SPD, I ended up on crutches. I think pregnancy and I just dont go together. I'm a good birther though :D and strange as it may seem to some of you, I quite enjoyed giving birth :o

yoshimigalloway · 24/01/2011 14:13

the doctor said it was too early for scans at 5 1/2 weeks. I think I'll see how it goes for a few days and i'll call the midwife or the hospital if i'm still worried.

It's not sex, my OH is too scare to come near me at the moment. I'm wondering whether going to the toiler (a no2) might be doing it somehow? It seems to be after that each time? I don't know, how embarressing I'm glad we're talking on here, I'd be bright red otherwise.

I'm very sorry to hear that things have ended badly this time for you x

slowshow · 24/01/2011 14:25

Yoshimi - having a number 2 does "dislodge" (sorry, couldn't think of a more delicate word!) cervical mucus, so it could just be blood stained cervical mucus, which could point towards a cervical erosion. Completely harmless, and nothing to worry about. So that might be a bit reassuring for you Smile

yoshimigalloway · 24/01/2011 14:45

thank you slowshow, that is reassuring. I'll go with that then!

Misty9 · 24/01/2011 16:25

Yoshimi - have you been on the pill for a long period of time? I ask because I had similar spotting.light bleeding last week, ended up having a scan (at 6+4) and all was fine but doc said blood was coming from cervix. Women who've been on the pill for years often end up with an ectropion cervix (also called cervical erosion) which means the cells that normally reside inside the cervical canal extend out into the cervix itself, and these cells are very sensitive and easily irritated - and bleed. Sex can do it, as can a difficult no.2 - or it can be totally unprovoked.
An internal exam should tell you if you have this (totally benign) problem - I was surprised when my GP didn't do internal, but EPAU doc did.

Hope this helps...I've tried to calm down about spotting now I know :)

yoshimigalloway · 24/01/2011 16:43

yes, I was on the pill for about 11 years. Maybe thats it. I'm going to try and calm down a bit and also drink more water. I'll see how it progresses if I get much more maybe i'll give the midwife a call as i was given the number this morning.

Thank you

greedychops · 24/01/2011 18:56

Yoshimi - hope everything is fine, and as others say, brown is usually not as much to worry about as red blood, so fingers crossed everything is ok. It's impossible not to worry though so hope you have things to distract you. I had brown blood at about 5 weeks but am assuming it was implantation or something as haven't had any more and still getting +pg tests. Still very nervous about the scan though.

That reminds me - must actually make an appointment with the midwife.

Hope the rest of you are all managing to keep your heads out of the toilets for at least some of the day Grin

ssmile · 24/01/2011 19:34

Feeling a bit better thanks Belina, keeping food in but now my sense of smell has racked up a notch. I cant open the fridge, or bare to have the oven on the cooking smell brings on a icky attack.

Belina hats of to you if you can take it easy when you have just moved homes. Moving house is SO stressful. Woke up last night thinking up strategies incase this bean is twin beans. We just wouldnt have space but not sure I could take the stress of moving again. When expecting DD1 we sold my DH flat 10wks before I had her and put my flat on the market when DD was 6wks old Was a tad stressful as both had been DIY projects and then bought another DIY project which we not finished yet!

My DH is a twin but none on my side of the family so dont think that raises my chances? Would hope not! Anyone else worried incase its a multiple?

ssmile · 24/01/2011 19:35

sorry Belgina not belina where is my head at!! Blush

Xmasevie · 24/01/2011 20:36

Ravenlocks I'm having the same lunchtime dilemnas! I added branston pickle to my cheese. Also been taking in celery sticks and hummus, home made soups, salads are good too. Also moazarella tomato and pesto nice.
My sickness feeling started this morning. I gagged after breakfast but I wasn't sick. Also soooooooo spotty on my chin, does anyone else have spots? I don't feel hungry in the slightest.
Belgina - hope you're ok. When I was bleeding I went straight to a and e who then referred me to the early Preg unit for a scan and bloods. Dont feel the need to wait for gps.
Hope everyone is ok xxxx

belgina · 24/01/2011 20:56

ssmile sadly I can't take it as easy as I want to. DH and the ap did the brunt of the work, but I did the emptying of the boxes, organising the rooms, child care and feeding of the troups. I'm always worried about twins too, luckily this early scan put at least those worries to rest. Imagine having 5!!! One of the mums of my pn thread had twins not to long ago. She now has a 3yo, a 20mo and baby twins!! That must be such hard work. Btw, your chance for twins is higher if you're of African ethnicity, an older mum and i'm pretty sure only non-identical twins are hereditary.

yoshimi I second the ectropian/cervical erosion possibility. I have one of those and my spotting/brown loss was attributed to it in my 2nd pregnancy. You are right. They won't scan until 6 weeks as before that there's no visible heartbeat.

No bleeding today. I've been signed of work until my scan. I hope now the worst of the house move is behind us.

Hope everyone is ok :)

loomer · 24/01/2011 21:00

Belgina, you sound so calm, I hope that your bleeding calms down soon. I'm another home-birther, and I actually enjoyed giving birth too (although I've only done it once so far!). I am so sad for women who don't get the opportunity to experience it (ie. have elective c-sections). A friend once described it to me as "the most womanly thing you can do" and I think that's a wonderful explanation of what an amazing experience it is (or can be if you're lucky)!

Is anyone else hooked on "One born every minute"? DH and I love watching it, and usually have a few tears by the end. I admire the midwives so much - I know I would find it very hard to keep my patience with some of the women on there... I'd just being saying "FGS pipe down and stop making such a fuss!"

Can I ask if you all had to see a GP before the midwife 'booking in' appt? I phoned up my surgery to make an appointment with the midwife and the receptionist said that I had to see a GP first - although she did admit that she had no idea why! It's been so long since my first pg that I can't remember what happened when.

Speaking of which, we told DD on Sunday that she is going to be a big sister... she has been besotted with babies for several years and we knew she'd be so excited that we just couldn't keep it secret from her any longer. When are those with DCs planning on telling them I wonder?

belgina · 24/01/2011 22:20

loomer I might sound calm, but my enormous flair up of eczema tells a different story Wink

xmasevie I'm already under EPAU and have been in touch with them. They don't want to bring my scan forward as the bleeding has stopped and there won't be enough difference between last week and this week to be able to tell if it's ok or not.

food I've always been careful with things like ham, prawns etc... If buying ready made, because you don't know how fresh it is. I've eaten Brie (it was my craving on my last pg), but always check to make sure it's well in date. Prawns etc are ok as long as they're part of a cooked meal. I'm more of a panini/cheese sandwich/soup person, so lunch has never been an issue here. I also hate pate and blue cheese, so no problem.

I'm not watching One Born Every Minute. It reminds me too much of work, lol.

greedychops · 24/01/2011 23:06

Am definitely hooked on obem - that first baby tonight was scary.

Loomer - we will probably leave telling dc until there is a bump so they have something visible to connect with it. Ds1 is a bit obsessed with the book, our new baby just now though so maybe he knows already!

Belgina - does sound like you are a busy lady. Obviously we are all crossing our fingers for your scan.
