Still whispering the good news but is there anyone else out there wishing they had made the most of the Stilton this Christmas? [Wink]

Feeling v sorry for myself as I've just been sick again Sad DH has got some mysterious pain (possibly kidney stones) and so I am looking after DS on my own and I am just so absurdly tired that I don't really know if I'm coming or going.I seriously cannot wait until school finishes next Friday!

And DH had better have something really wrong with him; if it's just trapped wind I'm going to bloody kill him!

ssmile · 13/07/2011 20:41

Oh you poor thing gosh hope u can get some rest soon &sickness passes.

Meerkat11 · 14/07/2011 10:08

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well feralgirl hope you and hubby both feel better soon (and yes, I think you're within your rights to be p*d off if it's nothing serious!).
Thanks for feedback on HB's - yes, it is my first baby, and although our mlu is ok (and much better than having to be in a consultant led ward), I feel the same as you loomer - I'd like to have at least given myself the opportunity to try it, and then change my mind and go to hospital if needs be. The head (community?) mw and my mw are coming out to see me on Monday and go through the paperwork, so fingers crossed...
Also, one of my friend's is a mw and she's v supportive and says she'd have an HB too, so that makes me feel a bit better :)
As for standing on one leg - think it's to do with losing balance, and also keeping your body balanced in the yoga-type sense - ie if you put too much strain on one side it will not be too useful - I certainly have bad lower back at the moment, and although I manage to get pants and jeans etc on, I def have to sit down for socks and shoes, but that's just reaching rather than balance I guess...! Sorry, I can't be more help with explanation - I'm bad for just accepting what people say without questioning sometimes!
Oh, hope the glucose test goes ok for you xmasevie, and glad your nct bucnh are good...

feralgirl · 14/07/2011 21:24

Fair play to DH, he ended up in A&E today as the pain was so bad but it's not stones, just a bladder infection! I'm still a bit annoyed with him though as it's his own fault for not drinking enough water in this heat.

Hope your test was OK Xmasevie?

ssmile · 14/07/2011 21:45

Oh bladder infection can be nasty & painful if affects kidneys hope he on mend with antibios and u can have some rest too.

feralgirl · 15/07/2011 20:06

Yeah, he's OK thanks. We are comparing symptoms; back ache, odd twinges in lower abdomen, constant need to urinate...!

ssmile · 17/07/2011 15:39

Hope u both doing better feralgirl. I've had vlazy day felt zonked DH been fab looked after DD most of the day whilst I crashed out on bed reading paper feel vgrateful to him. But I nursing a cold with 6wks to go getting bursts of nesting cleaning energy then just zonked again! Hows everyone else doing? Counting down 2wks left at work....

feralgirl · 17/07/2011 20:43

One week at work to go! I am wondering just how much of that I can get away with showing my classes DVDs and playing games.

DH, gawd luv 'im, took DS out this morning to soft-play-hell and I slept until 1.30. I think I freaked DH out a bit by being sick again yesterday but I feel much better today as a result of sleeping for 14 hours!

Hope your cold is better soon ssmile.

Minkyjj · 18/07/2011 12:33

Well thats annoying - just typed and then lost my message! Here goes again. Just wanted to apologise for being out of contact for so long but I have been in and out of hospital since Tuesday night with contractions which are luckily not dilating my cervix but are very strong and may turn into labour at any moment. Have had all treatments possible including steroids to speed up babys lung development but still going strong. Have been sent home and readmitted the next day and its all started again this morning so I have decided to wait at home and see what happens this time as I am so tired after 4 nights of no sleep on the antenatal ward. Have had so many internal exams I now feel like half of Poole have seen my inner workings - the best one was last time when the midwife arrived bedside with the biggest torch I have ever seen - you would have thought she was going caving! Anyway, pray for us that this baby doesnt decide to arrive in the next few weeks as having spoken to the paediatric team we know a bit too much about what to expect with a 30 week premature baby and I dont think we would cope to well! x

loomer · 18/07/2011 12:53

Oh crikey Minky, that's pretty scary stuff, will keep everything crossed for you, and hope that the contractions don't develop any further. Please keep us updated as far as you can - if you go all quiet again we'll be praying for a happy return.
FWIW, one of my good friends from work had her DD at 32 weeks, and although it was a stressful time for her and DH until the little one came home, the baby was fine and strong and is now a very active and noisy 4yo - the stats are on your side I think at this stage.

Minkyjj · 18/07/2011 13:10

Thanks loomer I also have a friend whose baby was born at 30 weeks but I know how hard it was for them for weeks afterwards and they had no other kiddies to worry about. I am doing all I can to do nothing so hope that will get me as far along as I can.

ssmile · 18/07/2011 15:33

Oh gosh minkyj will hope ur little one stays put a little longer. What a worry at least they getting steroids should help baby lungs. Will keep u in our thoughts.
Makes me moaning about a cold seem insignificant. Fingers Xed for u x

Xmasevie · 20/07/2011 03:49

Minkyj thinking and praying for you. My friend just had twins at 29 weeks now 35 weeks and they doing good. X

lxr1 · 20/07/2011 11:46

I've not been on to post anything for a while, but have been lurking occassionally.

Minky - sounds like you're having a pretty scary time. My fingers are crossed that your baby stays put for as long as possible.

Ferralgirl - so jealous that you'll be starting maternity leave soon. I finish at 38 weeks (where I'll be taking 2 weeks holiday). Boss, said "Can't you take the holiday at the end of your maternity leave?", I was a bit Hmm, there's no way I'm finishing the day before my due date!

Apart from the heartburn, backache, and tiredness, all is progressing well here. MW appointment last Friday showed fundal height matched no. of weeks, and baby is upside down with his/her back to my front. I did have +1 glucose in my urine for the first time (hopefully only caused by the 1/2 box of Quality St I'd eaten over the previous 24hrs Blush), but have to go back again next week, to give another sample. If glucose is still there, I have to have a GTT.

All being well, we're definitely going down the home birth route. Just need to decide whether to get a birthing pool or not. I'm going on a waterbirth workshop at our local hospital in a couple of weeks, which should help make up my mind.

feralgirl · 20/07/2011 20:09

Wow Minky, I hope you're all OK. My niece was born at 31 weeks and, although it was a bit grim for a while, she was fine within a few months. She's still dead little at age 7 but she's a bloody brilliant gymnast as she's built like a bird!

Lxr, my official maternity leave doesn't start until the 2nd of Sept (last working day before my due date); it's only because I'm a teacher and I ensured the conception was performed with military timing that I've managed to swing the six weeks off - fully paid mind Grin - before I'm due. It's been bloody hard work but, come Friday, it's all going to have been worth it!

Bought a birthing pool yesterday Grin. I've decided that if I go into labour during the day then we'll do it here as my parents can have DS; if it's during the night then I'll go to the birthing unit and call my parents to come and stay so as not to disturb DS and freak him out.

ursigurke · 20/07/2011 20:45

Minky, I hope you manage to relax a bit. Remember, these days they can do amazing stuff and every day will make the baby stronger. And we all know someone who had a premature baby and everything turned out fine. In fact, I once met a woman who had a baby at 22 weeks. I hadn't even known that this was possible. But the boy seemed to be a really healthy and active 3 year old.

ssmile · 21/07/2011 21:57

Had melt down yester after tiring day at work it felt like I looking after everyone else &then putting DD to bed my DH comes in &just wants to watch tv whilst I wanted to talk to him about hospital appt We have on Mon (he forgotten to tell work again). Ended up in tears saying whose gonna look after me? Poor DH he been great lately didn't deserve my outburst but after tears &sleep I felt bit better. Still quietly terrified of approaching birth though its 5wks on sat to c-sec &it may be no2 doesn't stop me feeling panicked inside.
How's everyone else feeling?

Meerkat11 · 22/07/2011 17:31

Hope you're doing ok minky and baby is continuing to stay where it should be!
Sorry to hear you're not feeling too great either ssmile - when do you finish work? Hopefully you can get some R&R then and remove some of the stress going on (well, that's what I'm hoping for too anyway!).
Last wkend was pretty tiring for me - had my family up, and continued diy of the nursery (the hall now has carpet though, at last!). Unfortunately discovered more problems with the room (wet/dry rot), which is going to delay it even longer... Goodness knows when it'll ever finish! Off to look at furniture in Ikea tomorrow though - a Saturday, eek - wish me luck ;).
Had my chat with senior mw and my mw on Monday about Home Births - they continued to do their best to put me off, and as I was already stressed about room rot situation, did nothing to help my emotional wellbeing. Finally spoke to Hubby about it yesterday too (he had to work on Monday), and we're still in limbo about it all - he's really worried about potential for something going wrong, plus practicalities of birthing pool. I just don't know what to do and it all keeps going round in my head. hmmm.
Sorry this has been another long post.
Hope you are all doing well and not feeling too weighed down with these ever-increasing bumps!

Misty9 · 22/07/2011 18:55

hope you and bubs are doing well minky

talking of ever increasing bumps...I'm feeling like a beached whale at the moment. Struggling to find tops to fit over my bump so went shopping, which did not improve my mood! Suffice to say, I found nothing.
meerkat I'm planning on a homebirth - what are your concerns? Looked into hiring vs buying pool and seems just as expensive to do either so will probably buy - then can use for the next one, or as a paddling pool at least! My hubby has reservations as well, but has said he'll go with what I want - and we're only 5mins blue lights from the hospital. Advantages = at least one midwife with you constantly (2 when in estbl labour), more relaxed in own surroundings, no DH getting sent home soon after birth (depending on hosp/time), no worrying about when to go into hosp. The midwives bring a rescusitaire in case baby has breathing probs - and they'll transfer you if they're worried. Not for everyone, but I'd really like to aim for it (first baby) for now...

We went to Ikea last weekend...it was flipping hard work walking around and had complete strangers asking me how long I have left! Then being incredulous when I said 6/7 weeks... Bought some bits of furniture and just gotta put them together now :)

On my tod this weekend as DH is off at a festival with his mates - last chance for some freedom I told him Wink . Got one more assignment left to do then I'm free! Start maternity leave in 2 weeks....can't wait :) Just over 6wks to go!! Can't believe I'll be a mummy this time in 2 months for sure :)

ssmile · 22/07/2011 20:25

Last day at work wed :o can't wait.5wks to go tom. Sounds like we all counting down now. I'm trying hard not to have ice cream tonight been eating my way through half tub Ben&jerrys a night this wk. Just keep craving it as had sore throat all wk &want dairy. Prob should have stuck to ss milk me thinks ;-) I had been doing ok with weight management but alas this wk gone haywire...
Any body else had some mad cravings?

feralgirl · 22/07/2011 21:04

LAST DAY AT WORK TODAY!!! Sorry for shouting but I am just Grin Grin Grin

Now all I have to do is hold on until 15th of August when I'll be 37 weeks and can do the deed in my new pool in my own living room.

Sorry to all who've been having a crappy time of it lately though; up until today I was bloody miserable but now I've finished school it all seems to have miraculously got better again!

Ssmile, seriously, sod it and eat the ice cream; it's a poor substitute for wine but it's the best we've got atm! We can all lose weight together in a few months time (or maybe wait til after christmas).

ssmile · 22/07/2011 21:21

I've eaten a bowl of rice crispies instead :o glad u finished work feralgirl enjoy nesting n chilling

Minkyjj · 22/07/2011 21:33

Hello ladies, well, so far so good. I have made it past the 31 weeks mark and am now aiming for 32 weeks next wednesday. Am marooned at home and have to spend most of my time lying down and being lazy. The kiddies just broke up today so will see how well that goes. I tend to just try to save my bursts of energy for cooking food and am leaving everything non essential to DH and family who pop round to help when they can. I have been lucky to have my ironing done for me for two weeks now by mum and I am having a cleaner come round next week for a few hours to hoover and clean bathrooms and kitchen etc. Luckily as I am usually so particular about cleaning and keeping the house tidy there is some room for being a bit relaxed for a few weeks. I have realised that if I plan things carefully I can still do the shopping (online with Tesco) and just arrange the delivery for when DH is at home and able to unpack everything. Basically my project management skills are being well utilised at the moment as I am doing all the planning and task allocating without any of the energy! Should have done this years ago!
Love reading all your posts and how you are all getting along. Some of you are getting very close now - hope you are all packing hospital bags - trust me, you never know when its going to happen and it wasnt much fun having to relay requests to DH from hospital.
This week my friends threw me a surprise baby shower which was amazing. I have also had so many friends popping over for coffee - made me realise that life is sometimes just filled with things that we think are important but that when push comes to shove, it doesnt matter if you let stuff take a back seat for a while. I hope you will all take a lesson from me and slow down if you are going too fast, the future you are carrying is not worth risking. Take care ladies and stomachs out, chins up and enjoy these last few weeks!

ssmile · 23/07/2011 06:34

Glad u made another wk minky your post is v good for making us put it in perspective and chill out our most important job is incubation these little ones safety to the end if possible. I intend to pack my hospital bag this weekend. was dreaming about wt hafood to put in it last night! I just remember being SO hungry last time. it was a bank hol wend &main canteen was shut at the hospital & I am booked in for this little one over the Aug bankhol wend too!
Gd luck with this week minky

feralgirl · 23/07/2011 18:54

Well done for lasting another week minky.

Funnily enough, all my exuberence has evaporated today after being kept awake for half the night by DS having hysterical screaming fits for no apparent reason. I was sick twice this morning and phoned DH at work and made him come home early I was feeling so crap.

Minky, I am going to start following your advice and doing as little as poss although it is hard as DH has this permanently pained expression on his face and spends half his life doing big huffy sighs because he is having to do so much more than usual.

I guess I am going to have to do the bag this week too; I had DS at 36 weeks and I will be 34 weeks on Monday so had better be prepapared.
