MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Fraochsmum · 29/01/2011 22:29

Oh, I forgot to ask how you got on at Eastenders? I don't watch it so I'm not sure what is happening with the storyline now.
I just did a wee restaurant shift tonight and was handing out drinks to a table. Upon asking "Madam, would you like a glass of champagne?", I was somewhat surprised to see an adolescent boy with long hair turn round Grin oooops!

confuddledDOTcom · 29/01/2011 23:10

It was interesting. I'm not sure how far we got to be honest, they stood by their story and weren't going to accept any of what we had to say BUT I don't know how much of that was protecting themselves and how much was a genuine feeling they were right.

Justine, MrsD and I wrote up our visit on the thread in Site Stuff, not sure if they've made a seperate page, they should do.

I have a friend who is tall, slim, has long blonde hair and loves turning around to wave at the cars that peep him!

GruffaloMama · 30/01/2011 19:00

Hi all. Monster catch up. Have been a bit ill with a cold/bug and only starting to feel properly well again.

notnearly for your journey I strongly recommend stickers! V popular, no noise and hard to drop! And the bag of toys is a great idea.

Confuddled sorry to hear that you've had such a rough time but glad they've rationalised some of your scans etc. Fibromyalgia is a real pain - my mum has suffered from it for about 2 years along with another couple of complicating factors. I hope you're getting good support from the pain management people at your hospital - though guess they might be conservative because of the pregnancy.

I am doing okay preg-wise. I had PGP last time and already am having quite a few twinges. So have put away the heels and being careful with lifting etc. Though that's a bit tricky with a toddler... But I can't resist the cuddles. I had to get him some new shoes recently. They were super cheap plimpsole types. He's so in love with them he sleeps with them. Bless!

Ref flutters - am now 16 weeks and getting more frequent movements - much earlier than with DS. In particular the bean had hiccups the other day after I sneezed. I felt sorry for the wee thing - I'd obviously given it a shock! Looking forward to hopefully hearing the heart beat at my next midwife appointment (though not for a fortnight).

nicolamumof3 · 30/01/2011 20:55

evening all, sounds like we are all getting used to our bumps now?

confuddled you sound like you have a lot to contend with there, i had pgp with ds2 and with ds3 was alot lot worse, think aggravated by lifting a little toddler doesn't help really. Can feel it all starting already.

definitely feeling real movements which is so so reassuring. I have midwife on Wednesday for 16w apt. and anomaly scan in four weeks.

confuddledDOTcom · 30/01/2011 21:05

They're asking the GP to refer me to someone because hopefully that will get me an appointment somewhere quicker than what they can do. I'm going to try and find someone willing to do massage this week. The doctor said that my shoulders are causing the breathing problems because of the crutches so hopefully a massage will help that, I'm still exhausted from not being able to take full breaths.

I was fortunate with my girls being so small they aren't so much a problem, although this pregnancy the eldest is too big for me but I do have to pick her up occasionally.

Last night I struggled to get to sleep because the baby was awake. I've been feeling light movements but that was the first time I've really felt it like that.

Fab123 · 31/01/2011 00:45

Hey Confuddled so sorry to hear your diagnosis. I had a client at work who had it and he said the three best things he would recommend to anyone suffering are to eat chilli in anything you can (somehow it helps with the pain?), try acupuncture - he said it worked for a while anyway, and switch to goats milk...I forget why but he seemed to think it helped. I don't know if that's any use but thought I should pass it on as it's relatively unknown I think and docs are all a bit confused by it from what he said. I hope something works anyway, at least you have a diagnosis I suppose.
Thanks MissLolita I'll have a peek on flikr now :)

confuddledDOTcom · 31/01/2011 01:02

The hospital does acupuncture but the waiting list is quite long which is why they've asked for my GP to help. I've heard that chili can help with pain before - I had a good dinner then, sausages with chili Wink

From what I can tell it's a very difficult condition because there's no test so it's pretty much on symptoms and a doctor replicating(?) the symptoms by pressing on certain points. It also doesn't respond to pain relief. It sounds like it's all about teaching the muscles to relax. So it's something that some doctors with their scientific minds don't like. APS can be like that, it does have a test and treatment but doctors don't like it for some reason, easy way to test them out is to call it Hughes Syndrome, some resent Prof Hughes for being a junior doctor when he discovered it.

Fab123 · 31/01/2011 02:01

Well, hopefully it will be worth the wait. However I think he said that the body gets a bit used to it after a while, so I don't know how effective acupuncture is long term. It's funny actually as he said he was eating more chilli and when he found out it was meant to deal with pain, someone suggested he had been self medicating unknowingly. He did say regular painkillers don't work so no point in taking them and that Pfizer do a drug for it (I only know that as they have a main office near where I live and he commented on it). I think there can be links with depression, or whether this is often misdiagnosed I'm not sure, but should imagine it's down to immobility and lack of sleep more than anything else. Sure your doc will prescribe whatever you need. I'd try everything possible on NHS from hydrotherapy to physio or whatever they suggest. It sounds as though whatever works for one may not work for all, but it's just finding what suits.

MissLolita I found I had actually set up an account a few years back and completely forgotten about it! Blush Here's a link to my 'Set' - still playing around with it so hopefully this works!

Fab123 · 31/01/2011 02:02

They're a bit crap (as I said, not touched any textile since I was about 13!) but I'm slowly getting more confident :)

canny77 · 31/01/2011 12:14

Hi everyone,
I'm new to mumsnet, it's great to be able to see other people going through the stages of pregancy at the same time.
I'm 33, no children at present but very much looking forward to the arrival of this one. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks last year and as a result, like many others, have been very worried, anxious and paranoid throughout this pregancy.
I've got a definate bump now but not sure whether I have really felt the baby, I do keep gettig funny little feelings but its hard to know what they are. Have been aching around my bump and groin over the past week and have also been aching quite a bit 'down there' (sorry if this is too much info). Got myself into a real state last week so went to the GP on Friday who said it all sounds like a normal pregnancy and she listened to the heartbeat which was nice and strong. Despite all this don't feel 100% reassured but think I'll just have to accept that i'm going to worry and hope for the best.
It's nice to meet everyone, hope you are all well x

canny77 · 31/01/2011 12:15

Sorry forgot to say I'm due 12/7/11. x

My word there are a lot of us! So lovely to see as I find myself walking around town 'Spotting the pregnant ladies'! I'm now due on 19th July Miss Lolita but don't worry too much - I've been told they don't usually run to schedule Wink Glad you like the pics. I've given up using patterns as the giraffe rattle was a bit dull and the Snuggler's instructions were clearly for a nuclear reactor and have thus been abandoned. Love your crochet! I really should try that again. I'd love to know how you make those baloons too! They look great! Grin

Twit · 31/01/2011 14:16

Hi all!

I didn't return the application form in the end as over the weekend I was filling it in my PGP kicked into action Sad I do alot of walking with school and pre-school and I find it is just on the edge of being enough/too much. The cold is not helping and the other day I was in a lot of pain. DH rubbed my sore bits for about half an hour and although its still there making movement tricky its much better. It doesn't help that my stomach muscles are screwed and can't help my back much, and insist on cramping every now an then.
I have recently 'popped' and look about 6 months pregnant Blush and feel heavy and awkward already. Ah well.
I think I have finally turned a corner though, and am feeling positive about this baby now Smile I am nervously awaiting my 20 week scan on 18th Feb to to see if it is all ok.
And then it will be time to 'come out'. Wink

Eglu · 31/01/2011 17:16

Fab I love the things you have made. It makes me want to be all crafty.

I have just popped onto this thread as my bean is wriggling a lot and it reminded me I've not been on here for a while.

Twit we are due the same day and I feel I look about 6 motnhs too. I'm hoping the growth will slow down for a wee while. I haven't actually put a lot of weight on, just spread outwards.

SpannerPants · 31/01/2011 19:50

I'm feeling pretty miserable today, I seem to have developed sciatica over the weekend and walking is becoming very difficult. I went to see my GP before work today and he's referred me for physio but there's an 11 week waiting list so I might see if I can see someone privately before then. It doesn't help that I was working 14hr shifts over the weekend and my next day off is Saturday :(

But on a happier note, my bump is now big enough to hold my maternity trousers up so I'm not forever having to hoick them up!

Eglu · 31/01/2011 21:17

Spannerpants I was suffering from sciatica yesterday. It is no fun. I've had it on and off through both previous pregnancies. I'm also suffering backache today, but happy because I've been feeling the wriggling.

cara2244 · 31/01/2011 22:49

Evening all. Backache here too eglu! The no lifting thing is hard with a toddler especially as we have always had lots of cuddles.

MissLolita · 01/02/2011 09:45

Fab, I've updated you (felt weird, slightly irrational guilt at having altered someone'e details! and I'll PM you details about how to make a hot air balloon - their really easy!

Spanner and Cara I don't envy your sciatica and back pain, I have suffered from it in the past and am dreading its return.

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 09:50

morning all! we're in February yay, spring time here we come.

My back is going, sciatica is returning and im waiting the onset of pgp again. The joys eh?

16+3 today, seems to be going quickly now so thats good. My bump is def firming up now not just a flabby mummy tummy Grin

im looking at prams, not good. As im a total pramaholic.

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 10:16

Heehee! Thank you MissLolita, hopefully the irrational guilt has passed. I'm sure Pea will pop out on the 26th now just to annoy! Thanks for te PM. Will check it out and maybe try to attempt next week :)

Week 16 starts today for me! 3D scan creeping closer. Very busy weekend with two friends staying as well as OH and bowling / curry on Friday, scan / Wine & wisdom on Sat. My friends are total lushes (lovely lushes of course) so it's going to be interesting being sober Hmm!
Nicola So sorry to hear about your back, and everyone else's who is in pain. Is that residual from the first pg or did you have back probs before? I know siatica is a common side effect...wondering when it usually hits. Is it from the pressure of the baby weight?
This is going to sound really stupid and not at all comparative..My baby finger has been painful since week 8 and I can't put any pressure on it (which is lucky as I don't really use it for much!) but my friend said that it's probably carpal tunnel! I didn't realise there's also a link to that in pg. Just very lucky it isn't affecting any other fingers I think.
Anyone else getting sporadic period like pains again? I was hoping these were over after the 'Big Uterus Stretch of Weeks 6-9'.

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 10:21

i have always had a slightly weak back was bad with ds1 and worse after i'd had him as he liked to be carried alot!

diagnosed with spd/pgp with DS2 in 2005 and again when pg with DS3 in 2007 but was much much worse so bound to develop this time.

right time for tea and toast for me then get on with some jobs i reckon x

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 11:09

Nicola Ah, so I can expect it after the labours of mothering/carrying/being horsey Wink I just had tea and toast myself and told myself I'd do some work after. I really should. Lack of motivation here.
Re:pramaholicism - I decided on the Bugaboo this weekend with the OH. I had completely vetoed it in my head as the Worst Of Yummy Mummy badges. But looking at the facts, FACTS I TELL THEE!, it does have to be done. Bloody expensive though. Plus I like the green one which they don't do any more with the new canvas style bedding. Trying to find one second hand is a bit like hunting a leprechaun. Not that I've tried, mind.

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 11:26

you getting a cam fab?

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 11:37

Hopefully! I have a friend of a friend thinking of selling one that's 2yrs old for £350 which I think is a bargain. She keeps changing her mind though which is a bit frustrating! Have you had one before?
