I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

hi just marking my spot really, have been offline for so long and impressed by how much everyone is talking! Have only just moved into new apartment in Sydney, boys have started school and I hope to be meeting up with independent midwife in the next few days. Plus I'll have to go to a GP at some point to arrange for a scan, although I'm not looking forward to that (the GP, I mean, not the scan which should be good).

notnearlyasblondasiwas · 01/02/2011 13:46

GruffaloMama, DitaVonCheese and Fab123 thank you for the excellent advice about travelling with my daughter, the DVD player and sticker books are ordered and I am going utilise my iphone! We go 2 weeks today and I am in denial about packing. Anyone want to go in my place??

Sorry that I haven't been on the board much, the house renovation continues and after a full weekend of work have a beautiful new functioning bathroom and I finally have a bath I can get wet all over in (a long standing wish - am 6'1!) and it was totally worth waiting for! So onto the next task and we are taking down the ceiling in the dining room this weekend ready for it to be plastered whilst we are in NZ so we can paint when we get back.

Sorry to hear of all the back pain everyone is suffering - oh the joys of being pregnant! I keep seizing up when I am sitting at work and end up walking a bit like John Wayne, is not a good look for me!

Anyone else a bit bored of being pregnant at the moment - the shine and novelty has worn off a bit now and I just feel fat and frumpy. Can't wait for my bump to really bump so I don't look quite so waddly!

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 13:56

fab123 not really been a bug fan before tbh. But i am wanting something compact and light, one piece fold that crucially rear faces. Bee is only thing i can think of. This is for one baby has outgrown carrycot.

high fibre, glad you are settling well, must be really strange lots to get used to?

notnearly, im enjoying being pg this week. Have felt really like me for the first time in ages. No sickness, no migraines for four days now. Its joyous!

Just about to watch one born every minute on sky plus with a big bar of dairy milk.

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 13:57

Hi Highfibre hope you are well. I cannot imagine moving right now! OH and I spoke about it as we live apart but I have a house full of bits and have decided to wait until after the birth so I can settle and nest. Although hearing about you in Sydney (doubtless with sun and surf) is making me wonder if I chose correctly! My OH is from NZ and is looking at jobs in Oz too. I loved Melbourne when I was there. How are you finding it? Did you have a network over there already? Do they do similar dates for scans etc or do you not know yet until you meet GP? Blimey, Spanish Inquisition! Sorry Blush

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 18:23

Wooo! I just got my Bugaboo Cam confirmed for £350. Yes it's 2 yrs old but who cares? Footmuff, raincover and changing bag included and the lovely couple are even going to deliver it Grin I can't actually believe how excited I am Confused.
Sorry if that sounds like boasting. I've had a highly unproductive day and now finally feel I have achieved something...even if that appears to be spending £350!

Twit · 01/02/2011 19:25

lol! I'm after a Jane 3 wheeler with the carrycot. We shall see. Or urban detour with carrycot.
I hope everyone is having a good day today.

Mitchell81 · 01/02/2011 19:33

I have quinny speedi with carrycot and car seat and Phil and Ted vibe with doubles seat already so unfortunately not allowed a new pram Blush Sad

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 19:58

Thats great fab, what colour?
I do love my prams, I am using little maclaren volo for ds3 atm looking forward to getting my micralite out again and using a proper carrycot! but then undecided what to do when baby outgrows the carrycot but too small to go into pushchair seat.

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 20:26

It's black and of the "old felt" design, not the new canvas stuff. Sure I can still find other colours online from somewhere. They can't have all been burnt in some BB witch-hunt-style fashionista-bender by all the yummy mummies, can they? Shock Nicola I'm hoping this will avoid that issue as I think they are OK until about 3yrs old in this one. Depending on the size of the monster about to spring forth, of course Confused Have you tried Preloved? I have looked on there briefly (think it's only £5 for a year membership) and they seem to have quite a few cheapies. Might be worth a try?

cara2244 · 01/02/2011 20:30

Heard the heart beat today at my midwife appt so that was exciting! I'm following the buggy talk with interest....every time I look at doubles in the shops and online I am so uninspired. I have a mountain buggy which I love and is ideal as we do a lot of walking, but unfortunately the doubles are too wide.

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 20:37

Thanks Fab.

Cara im hoping i can hear hb at mw tomorrow too, always so reassuring. Am feeling definite movements now tho which is lovely.

What will your age gap be? I have 18m between my two youngest and went through alot of doubles trying to find the best one. Makes it more tricky if you have a narrow door to negotiate tho.

fallingandlaughing · 01/02/2011 20:41

Evening all.

Who is feeling the baby moving? I am 15+5 so I know it is too early but doesn't stop my lying still, trying to feel something!

I am feeling pretty comfortable, am hoping that being tall will make the bump easier to manouevere. Any recommendations of prams for tall people? Don't want to be stooping.

nicolamumof3 · 01/02/2011 20:45

Theres loads now with adjustable handles, is this your first falling? Im feeling movemnents but this is my fourth and earliest i've felt movements i must say.

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 20:55

Have you doubles girls looked at the iCandy Pear at all? I've not really gone into detail on them but think a couple of the iCandy range double up... They have a few review type videos on You Tube. Some American woman was on one and although she was clearly on crack or something I found her strangely addictive to watch...I'll try to find a link. She goes through all of the makes I had heard of giving pros and cons anyway.
Falling I can feel Pea moving about. Sometimes I think it's pushing into my fallopean tube and other times right on the base and giving me slight period type pains. This might just be growing though - not sure? iCandy doesn't have expendable handles but my OH is 6ft5 and said it wouldn't bother him Hmm Best off trying them out in the shop really (and then finding them cheaper online usually!) :)

Fab123 · 01/02/2011 20:57

Here you go - you should be able to find most of them with her

fallingandlaughing · 01/02/2011 21:34

Yes it is my first. Still can't believe it sometimes! I have plans to visit a pram centre in a few weeks so will have a look at adjustable handle ones, thanks.

LadyGoneGaga · 01/02/2011 21:51

iCandy Peach and I think Cherry have extendable handles though. John Lewis pretty good for showing off prams.

squirrel007 · 01/02/2011 21:55

notnearly I know what you mean about being bored of being pg - seems to be going really slowly. I have been feeling fat and frumpy, but now am getting more of a bump so am starting to feel better!

highfibre I also can't imagine moving at the moment, especially so far away! Hope it's going well :)

I am now 16w6 and am not sure if I'm feeling movement, or if it's just my stomach growling :)

Talking of prams, do any of you second (or third, or fourth) timers have any advice?! I have no idea where to start or what to look for. We'll mainly be driving and walking - does that make a difference to what we need?

Eglu · 01/02/2011 21:59

squirrel if you are mainly driving the size when folded and weight will be the most important thing.

Some pushchairs are incredibly heavy, and lots of them are massive when folded.

squirrel007 · 01/02/2011 22:32

Thanks eglu, it's good to know what to look out for :) I guess I'll mainly be walking (live in the centre of town) with some driving thrown in. Will definitely discount anything too heavy and bulky!

Scottygirl10 · 02/02/2011 09:38

Hi all, liking the pram talk :). I've been admiring the icandy apple for a while now. Going to wait until after 20 week scan (2 weeks tomorrow!!!) to go looking at them properly. On the subject of movement, I sometimes feel little 'pops' against my skin (from the inside obviously ) but this being my first I'm not really sure what I'm looking for? 18 weeks today so expecting to feel definitive movements soon x

Want2bSupermum · 02/02/2011 14:47

Hello everyone. It's been a while since I last posted. I am also watching on here about prams. Friends here in the US have suggested the uppababy. It's like the bugaboo but $300 cheaper with better wheels apparently. I am working 80-100 hours a week right now and will be on the road for the next two weeks so pram buying has to wait.

Hats off to highfiber for moving. DH is being relocated for April 1st to Manchester. We have decided that I am going to stay back and have the baby here. I am being induced at 39wks (bad back and wonky pelvis make an emergency c-section more likely if I get too big) so DH will fly over the day before. This will also enable me to work through to delivery which is a good thing as I think I would work myself into a frenzy if I was at home. The obn has said I will be able to fly to Manchester when the baby is six weeks.

buttonmoon78 · 02/02/2011 17:26

Pops against your insides sound pretty like early baby movements to me Scotty!

Re pram talk, I had a Loola with dc3 which I loved so, so much. I got rid of it as dc3 was goin to be last one Grin!

However, here we are again and I am looking on ebay for a loola though this time in black as dh decided he didn't like the red one anymore (though he chose red over black last time! Hmm)

I know that some people say it's a bit heavy (which is true but only in comparison with umbrella buggies) but that makes it feel sturdy to me. The big thing is that for shorter trips you can just use the car seat and wheels which makes it v practical to use in the car.

Also, I did use it for a long time whereas in the past I've had bigger pram style things like cams and apple style affairs and I just got fed up of lugging them around. You always end up with a lightweight buggy anyway but I used my Loola more than any of the other first pushchairs I had.

Am hoping my PGP is not coming back yet - I've had no twinges so far whereas I was in considerable pain last time at this stage (15wks nearly). My back is a bit achy but then it was always going to be!

Hope all's going well with everyone. I must admit that the pull of finding out the sex at 20 wks is getting stronger... I've not done so with any of the other 3 but I don't remember feeling this curious before either!

Fab123 · 02/02/2011 18:03

Hey wanttobe that Uppababy looks great! New over here it's just under £100 cheaper than the Buggaboo Cameleon but everything else looks very similar indeed. I like the fact you can fold it with the seat on though, very handy! BabyGizmo lady gives it full marks Wink
Does your OH get a lot of maternity leave or will you be staying in USA for the 6 weeks alone after he returns to Manchester before flying over? I know what you mean about staying put until baby is born - I've demanded this from my partner so I can nest a bit and feel support from friends nearby.

Got second midwife meeting tomorrow. Assume i'll finally hear the heartbeat and she'll weigh me. She didn't bother the first time and I had a rough guess (I don't like living by scales and tend to stay around the same weight) so we'll see if bump is blubber I guess. It's pretty solid and has popped out even more today!

Buttonmoon I certainly can't wait to find out on Saturday. Pea is now the size of an onion apparently (16 weeks and 2 days) and I want to get on with my craftiness. I've been at a standstill this week I think because I just want to know if I can use pink fabrics or put cupcakes on the romper suits etc. I also just want to get a name sorted. Feeling quite impatient with it all today and want to get going again.

Boobs look like they are growing again too. I went from a 32D to a 36D in the first trimester and now the back band is feeling itchy and tight again. Luckily I bought some expander things (although I accidentally got the small hooks/strap but they kind of work). Does anyone know if you ribs actually expand and go out as your organs move up to accomodate baby? I haven't put on fat so I just cant get my head around the expansion! Shock

Sorry for long post Blush

Eglu · 02/02/2011 20:12

Buutonmoon I have a loola that I got for DS2. DH hates it and finds it hard to push, but it is so rare he is ever going to be pushing it that I said tough I'm keeping it unless he finds me something better.
