I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

SelinaDoula · 27/01/2011 17:14

So releived, my blood tests just came back low risk!
Will try to chill out now!

itisntreallyme · 27/01/2011 18:26

Welcome FirsttimeMummy, I'm pretty new here too.

Great news Selina - you must be very relieved.

scarthy1975 · 27/01/2011 19:10

Hi everyone.

Hope all is well and it sounds like we are all starting to feel little flutters - I too have been having them when I lie down at night. Could be wind sometimes though Blush

Had my midwife appointment today and heard the baby's heartbeat for the 1st time. It was magical and i was transported back in time to when I heard DS. Had blood tests whilst there and so i'm hoping I get a letter in the next couple of weeks instead of a phone call - then i'll know i'm low risk!! Once thats out the way I will be able to relax. I'm sure I keep saying that lol.

Still not had date for next scan but my mw has said that I won't hear until about 18 weeks - two weeks away!

I've timed this pg perfectly. My husband is a teacher and so with his paternity leave and summer hols I should get about 8 weeks of help with DS and the new baby. Only thing he doesn't do is any feeding in the night - I breastfed DS and he made such a hash of it when I expressed that i didn't bother again - was probably intentional!

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 20:12

Hey Notnearly I was wondering if you have a DVD player with headphones? It's something that my friends swear by when they had long car journeys. Maybe a suprise toy they weren't expecting that you can pull out of the bag and Wow them with if they get ansty along the way?

Welcome Firsttime :)

Thanks guys. Feeling much better and loved the film. Went in with the pensioners and they gave a round of applause at the end. Terribly British!

I do have some pics actually Miss Lolita i'm trying to keep a diary of progress. Can I post them on here

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 20:14

Oh and re: the baby sho - I was looking at the £69 pregnancy ticket where you get two tickets, a parking space, lunch for two and gift... Was it the ELC you got the code from? I think I got one from Mothercare too a few weeks back but it wasn't much off either.

Fraochsmum · 27/01/2011 21:20

Yes scarthy, that sounds intentional! Great news about timing coinciding with your DH's holidays as well, I'm sure he will love being able to spend so much time with the new wee one.
I'm so jealous of your holiday notnearly! I have no advice that can help, but think Fab's idea is probably a good one.
Great news on your friend "Stangirl*! I have a few people very close to me (1 undergoing 2nd round of IUI at the moment) and I can really understand what fantastic news it is.
I haven't felt any flutters yet, but they started around this time with DD (although I put them down to wind for quite some time Blush).
I am on the lookout for a tandem, 3-wheeler buggy for mine - I figure I have enough time to find one 2nd hand! I looked at Ebay to find the closest ones to my postcode, but unfortunately we are at the bottom if a peninsular so 50 miles from us equates to 150 by road Grin
What a lovely GH Confuddled! All the best for your app x
After stopping my folic acid I haven't bothered taking any extra supplements, I have a well-balanced diet so won't take anything else unless the mw thinks I should.
Hope things are well with you and your other half Fab xxx

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2011 21:20

i think im justing the £11.50 tickets and parking should be a tenner?

SelinaDoula · 27/01/2011 21:42

I have been feeling flutters for a couple of weeks too, last time I had an anterior placenta so didn't feel movement till after 20 weeks, so this is nice!

cara2244 · 27/01/2011 21:59

Hi ladies. Where is this baby show?
Can anyone recommend a good bra? Was thinking about the active birth centre one, although pricey, as my boobs are really painful. I'm sleeping in this really unattractive grey sleep bra left in the back of The drawer after pg number one!

I was lucky enough to find a second hand mountain buggy for 80 quid before my LO was born. Hoping to make do with that and a buggy board.

kalo12 · 27/01/2011 22:00

hi july-ers. can I join?

edd 14/7 age 39 DS1-3yrs

I haven't felt any movement yet and am panicking as have had 3 previous mcs.

could you give me a brief run down on if you've felt any movement yet?

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 22:16

Oooh I just looked and it seems the Baby Show in May I was thinking about is in Birmingham and next London one isn't till Oct. Bit late perhaps! I will try and make it to this one I think. Thanks for mentioning it or I wouldn't have checked!

Yay for the flutters everyone! Hope those of you that haven't felt it soon get the pleasure soon :)

OH and I are back on track and he's up as usual this weekend thanks everyone. Still hoping he'll manage to speak to her sooner rather than later though (she lives in NZ as that's where he's from so the time delay is apparently an issue) Hmm

This is a bit personal, but is anyone else getting sharp stabbing pains in the actual vagina area? Not really sure how else to describe it...bit like a trapped nerve but the pain only lasts a few seconds and is gone? I've got an app with the midwife next week so will check with her, but just wondered if anyone else has had this. Been on and off for a week or two. Confused

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 22:25

Hey Cara - this is a link to the baby show website - London one is Earls Court:
www.thebabyshow.co.uk/excel-london

And I was looking at these yesterday. Tbh I ddidn't realise Boots did maternity bras but yyou can get them online here:
www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10052&catalogId=10551&langId=-1&pageSize=12&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&searchTerm=bra&newDepSearch=
I got my non-underwireds from Debenhams - pack of two for £20. Pretty sure they are getting bigger again so glad I didn't spend too much. Also have a JoJo Maman day/sleep bra for nights but although it is the most comfortable it doesn't quite support enough when they are at that sore stage, I found. Hope that helps!

DitaVonCheese · 27/01/2011 23:15

Lolita afraid I did announce it on Facebook Blush as for some reason I hate telling people in RL so was just easier, but I'm not doing eg weekly bump photos like I did last time round Blush

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks they've felt flutters so early :)

sues Pleased to hear you're feeling better but just to repeat what everyone else has said, your LO is so well protected in there :) I've been going to a lot of soft play with DD recently (trying to tire her out!*) and has involved lots of rolling on my stomach over rotating barrels etc Confused but hopefully DC2 is coping with it all okay in there.

*DD has recently dropped her nap (sorry if I've mentioned this already, too tired to remember) so I have 12 hours a day of toddler without chance of a nap myself. I did manage to doze off the other day on the sofa while she sat on my knee and watched home movies, but every time she noticed I was asleep she'd shout "Stop it, Mummy! Wake up!" damn her. Lucky for her she's so cute Grin

Hi Selina - I'm localish to you, from over near Frodsham, and have been looking at your website as I think I'd like a doula this time, but guess I'll have to cross you off my list Grin Glad the blood tests were reassuring :)

squirrel I love maternity trousers Blush - why don't all my clothes have an elasticated waist?! Grin

StormBird I'm taking preg vits + omega (though (a) keep forgetting and (b) hate the omega ones because they make me burp fish) - like someone else said, baby will get what it needs but I think they're probably good for me, esp with breastfeeding as well. Also they have iron in and want to avoid becoming anaemic if possible. Can't remember who said they were superstitious about the vits but reminded me that I didn't take the omega with DD and spent a lot of my pregnancy feeling guilty that I wasn't prepared to spend the extra couple of pounds on improving her brain and eyes Grin (DC2 is only getting the omega because they were on special offer when I was newly pg)

I'm on DC2 but also want a new (secondhand) travel system. Last time we were given on but the carseat didn't fit in my car so we had a car seat which didn't fit on the pram = PITA. Then bought a secondhand M&P one because having to get her in and out of the car seat was such a palaver but M&P car seat would only go on a base so couldn't use it in anyone else's car = also a PITA. Would like to avoid this this time round though not sure how DH feels about it Grin Keep telling myself we don't have anything else to buy!

notnearly iphone apps (or similar)! Don't have one but know people who do and my DD loves them - DSIL is about to use one to entertain her 20 month old on a 7 hr flight to Canada.

Hello other newbies :)

Bed time for me!

DitaVonCheese · 27/01/2011 23:21

That took me so long I have missed posts Blush

kalo my EDD is 18/7 so we're about the same stage. The flutters I have felt have been very delicate - usually just make me do a double-take and think "Can you just do that again now that I'm concentrating so I can see if I actually felt anything or just imagined it?"

Fab I had a very sharp pain this morning and had to limp into a dr's appt Blush - think it was kind of diagonal across my lower groin from the top of one of my thighs, felt very like a trapped nerve or something, does that sound like the kind of thing you mean? Did worry me briefly but was over fast and nothing else since.

SelinaDoula · 27/01/2011 23:28

Ditavoncheese I can recomend this doula who lives pretty near you-

Stangirl · 28/01/2011 08:29

I used normal underwired bras throughout my last pregnancy and will this time too - had no effect on my bfing after birth. I love Bravissimo for good cheapish bras for the larger boobage. They do brilliant nursing bras too - I thought the Mothercare ones were crap.

MissLolita · 28/01/2011 12:30

Hi ladies,
Glad everyone is doing well and it's lovely to have new people joining! We should post a stats update....will ferret about later and try and post....

Fab glad you are back on track with OH! Have you got a Flickr account - you can get one for free (I think!) - I can't see how to do a short link but here's a mosaic link (I think) www.flickr.com/photos/13529433@N06/collections/72157609339624122/ - this is all sort of bits though...I like your idea of a progress diary! Will try and create one this weekend!!

nicolamumof3 · 28/01/2011 12:34

morning all. im in my old mat bra's but don't feel very comfy they are m&s and not very good don't think. They feel huge atm too.

i feel heavy and uncomfortable at 16w how the hell can that happen.

another migraine this morning, taken codeine but has left me feeling really really sick.

baby show is at excel london 18-20 feb.

cara2244 · 28/01/2011 20:35

Thanks to all for the bra advice. I thought I saw stretch marks emerging on the boobs the other day so went into mild panic!!

Dita, I wouldn't have anything to buy....except I sold a Lot of my LO's stuff!! Car seats and bases are sooo expensive aargh!!!

confuddledDOTcom · 28/01/2011 21:35

Not a clot, not asthma, not a chest infection. New diagnosis. I have fibromyalgia :( I have Antiphospholipid Syndrome so it was just a matter of time before I got a diagnosis for something, I think the PGP has been masking the symptoms.

I?ve definitely been feeling movement, I found it especially noticeable when I was having the hand held Doppler or the scan as baby seems to push against it. Fortunately they?ve decided to cut my scans down to fortnightly and they?ve changed the three during half term week to all on one day.

I?m not getting a pushchair, we have a Silver Cross 3D which is hardly used from my youngest as I prefer to use a wrap sling (and with the crutches it?s easier anyway). I go to The Baby Show every year at the NEC, usually go on the train, leave everything at the collection point and get someone to pick me up. Each year gets harder though with my PGP (and fibromyalgia) and it costs £15 to hire a scooter for a show! Not sure I?ll be able to go this year as it?s the end of May and I?m expecting the baby to come in May.

Scarthy, I use breastfeeding as a reason he should do everything else when he?s around, don?t give up on that!

He?s not always so thinking so he did surprise me. He does occasionally though.

sues1974 · 28/01/2011 23:18

Evening ladies
Selina so glad your result came back as low.
Im definitely feeling movement and i think the baby did a sumersalt tonight cos it felt really strange but been getting quite a few flutters, but not everyday. Im suprised because i was really late feeling anything with my DS, and it was about week 22 when i felt a proper quick with only 1 or 2 flutters before that.
Im16 weeks today and was reading that in the next 3 weeks the baby will double in size and is now fully formed and will just spend the rest of the time growing. So laies if youre not feeling anything you soon will.
I dont know what it is you have or what it means to have it confuddled but it doesnt sound good, i hope they can manage your pain for you, it certainly sounds like thwy are looking after you and the baby.
Ive bought a Jane Powertwin second hand but not going to buy the car seat. as DS is in nursery 2 days a week i'll do shopping etc then and just use single pushchair for the baby. Im hoping double will be mainly for walks to the park etc. also id probably go out with my mum who lives near by when hubby is away working and we can take one each.
suz xx

confuddledDOTcom · 29/01/2011 00:11

Antiphospholipid Syndrome is a nasty disease, I believe all women should be screened for it in pregnancy or after a loss, it would save an incredible amount of lives. It attacks something found in cells so unlike other autoimmune diseases it can attack anything. The biggest issue is that antibodies are carried in the blood so it's constantly under attack which makes the blood clot in the veins and arteries - which puts the sufferer at risk of blood clots in the veins (DVT), arteries, lungs (PE), strokes/ TIA, heart attack/ Raynaud's etc. It can also choose to attack something specific which manifests as another autoimmune disease, so it could attack the joints and cause arthritis or the muscles and cause fibromyalgia or any other autoimmune disease you can think of.

PGP (Pelvic Girdle Pain) also known as SPD (Symphasis Pubis Dysfunction, but that name is not supposed to be used now as it doesn't include a lot of the other symptoms) is when the joints in the pelvis -centre front on the pubic bone and where the pelvis meets the spine, your dimples- become unstable and painful. It's usually caused by pregnancy as the body releases a hormone called relaxin that releases these joints (they're like soft spots, they aid your birth then fuse as you get older but they release to aid you to give birth) in some people they release too much.

Fibromyalgia I don't understand too much at the moment. It's fatigue in specific muscles, the muscles forget to relax so they become stiff and painful.

I'm not sure which you were asking about, but I've used a lot of jargon so it helps to explain it anyway.

Fraochsmum · 29/01/2011 13:15

Really sorry to hear that confuddled, sounds like you have enough on your plate to deal with without this to add to it.
Nothing nearly on that scale, but I think I might ask to be referred to physio at my mw app on Monday. I had muscle pain in my buttock (sorry!) with my first pg and it has come back this time, albeit much earlier. I get pain when moving my left leg and it sometimes 'goes' from under me when walking. Last time I had strapping put on and it disappeared in a couple of weeks - magic stuff!
I got DD her first pair of shoes yesterday, so cute! And quite amazed that she hasn't tripped over them yet.
Beautiful weather here today - hope everyone has a lovely weekend xxx

confuddledDOTcom · 29/01/2011 22:09

Pain is pain, someone else being in pain doesn't mean you're not allowed to feel pain. Don't live with any pain, it's your body saying something isn't right. Sounds like you could have PGP.

I love the first shoes experience! My youngest is on her second pair, the first were crawlers and when she tried on her new shoes she walked off! It was one of these little corners in Mothercare and she was off into Mothercare, before then she'd only ever taken a step or two! She was so proud of her shoes, she has to show everyone and she's incredibly flexible so she has to have them on the tray of her highchair when she's eating so she can look at them.

Fraochsmum · 29/01/2011 22:24

Hahaha! What a show-off! Mine is also incredibly excited/pleased with herself when she walk around - something we don't really think about but gives them so much joy Smile
At first when it hurt the last time I thought it was sciatica or PGP, but the physio said it was only muscle where I pointed out and the treatment worked, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the same.
