MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Eglu · 26/01/2011 15:52

Stangirl I have been like that this pg. From very early on I found myself getting breathless. I feel like the most unfit person in the world. I didn't have this with DS1&2 though.

I'm very excited today as my boss had a baby boy yesterday. She ended up having to go to hospital over 40 miles away from her home, which is not good, but all is well with her and baby. It just makes me more excited about meeting my little bundle.

Fab123 · 26/01/2011 16:07

Confuddled I've been getting this like Eglu since early on. Going up stairs or walking and talking does it. It felt like I ran the marathon doing the 30min walk to the post office which usually would be a doddle as I like walking fast. It was particularly bad at night when it combined with my blocked nose (had since week 2!)and more than one night I woke up with a start, having feeling I was suffocating. My blocked nose is abating a bit now (still gets congested and bleeds easily when I blow) but the breathing has stayed the same since it started around week 6. Apparently it is progesterone blocking the nose and many women feel they are not getting enough air, but it is a side effect. Not very nice one, granted, but "normal" :) Obv check if you are concerned though!

Eglu · 26/01/2011 16:26

Fab I hate the blocked nose, it is driving me crazy. I feel like I have a permanent cold. And when I actually had a cold, I felt like I couldn't breathe at all.

Fab123 · 26/01/2011 17:49

Haha Eglu I was saying that to my friend just the other day. A four month cold is not to be sniffed at Wink. Apparently you can get some saline sprays but, apart from night time, my stuffy nose seems to be going now i'm 14 weeks...touch wood!

StormBird · 26/01/2011 19:48

Hi there everyone,

V. quick qiestion and apologies for not name checking or catching up with the thread but have to dash so will definately catch up at some point tomorrow.

Is anyone taking any supplements during their PG? I stopped taking my high strength Folic Acid at 14wks on the advice of the Consultant but have just realised (at 16+1) that I'm not taking any vits Confused

Anyone got any suggestions?

Hope you are all well xxxx

nicolamumof3 · 26/01/2011 19:50

evening all, i am exhausted.com after listening to dh snoring all bloody night. Off to bed soon. Nothing else much to report heads still splitting. Just wanted to check in really!

Stangirl · 26/01/2011 20:01

Stormbird I'm just taking the Boots own brand ones. I didn't take anything at all (apart from Folic Acid in first 14 weeks) with DD.

Given that DD was such a nice pregnancy and was born with no apparent problems I'm actually getting superstitious that perhaps I should stop taking vits as I didn't for her!

cara2244 · 26/01/2011 21:22

confuddledDOTcom could your iron be low? Breathlessness is a symptom of anaemia too.

I am embarrasingly breathless when I climb stairs at the mo!

Stormbird I've taken pregnacare throughout or the Sanatogen version - I think it's more to help me to be honest as the baby will get what it needs! Also in the first 6 months of breastfeeding, again to help me stay healthy.

Fab123 I have the blocked nose/nose bleed thing all the time too...driving me mad! Yoga is helping now I am no longer throwing up and can actually do it again :)

confuddledDOTcom · 26/01/2011 21:30

I was on the high dose folic acid because we have a history of spina bifida, I'm supposed to take Vit D but it's part of a calcium tablet (because of the Clexane) and they're vile so not happening!

I'm definitely going to bring it up on Friday, I feel like I have an elastic band around my lungs stopping me from filling past about 1/4 of the way down. I'm taking small breaths because anything deeper hurts and risks me coughing. I can hardly keep my eyes open this week (which if anyone's noticed the time stamps on my posts I don't normally sleep much).

I was getting a little worried about my appointment this week. It's a monthly clinic and it's not obstetricians I see so it's the only chance to see my doctors. My appointment this month is Friday at 8:50am. I was worried enough as it was about getting there in time when my eldest is dropped off at 8:45, then Mum tells me I'm going to have to take the girls myself in a taxi as Dad is at work (he starts at 6:45am) and she's working away. I've been staying with my parents because of being high risk and OH working away Mum didn't want anything to happen to me and no one being around to know. So I text OH this morning and said I'm going to have to cancel my appointment, he rang back to ask why and I explained to him there's no way to get them both in and me to my appointment without not taking them to school. Bless him, he got to work sorting something out. He was going to ask his parents to have them tomorrow night but wasn't able to get hold of them and rather than risk them not being able to when he got home he's taken the day off work and coming home tomorrow night (Yay!) He's going to go into work in his home office Friday afternoon to see if they have a spare PC he can use (he had to take his with him) and if not he'll book the day as leave. As daft as it sounds, I'm impressed, he wouldn't normally go to that much effort and I know they're busy at the moment.

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 00:07

Aw Confuddled that's lovely of him! My OH is away in the weeks and frequently abroad at short notice so I know what you mean about feeling sometimes it's just down to you. I hope everyone's partners are pulling their weight! I'm taking my OH to test run buggies this weekend (he's politely pretending to be vaguely excited) in the hope he'll feel more involved. Anyone recommend between iCandy Cherry, Bugaboo Cameleon or Oyster? Hopefully i'll get to trial them on Sat (and then find them cheaper second hand somewhere) Grin
Cara My friend is 2 weeks behind me and we've decided to join yoga classes too. Never done it before but glad you say it helps! I've heard lots of good things about it helping in labour too :)

Stangirl · 27/01/2011 08:52

Fab123 my only recommendation with buggies is to have at least one set of pneumatic tyres on it - the difference in suspension is enormous. Also if you decide to "off-road" it at all eg in woods or, as I did, at a festival - you need the better suspension and height.

I had lovely news yesterday. A friend of a friend - a good acquaintance of many years - is pregnant and due about a week after me. Up to now she's had a rotten time of it - a series of rubbish boyfriends, cervical cancer, told she couldn't have kids, nearly 40 - suddenly last year the man of her dreams swept into her life and now she's pregnant. I am soo happy for her.

wolfcubEm83 · 27/01/2011 10:07

Hi ladies, havent posted for ages as ive been a bit down (thanks for everyones kind comments) but im happy to say that ive bounced back and guess what - I feel flutters!!! Im 18 weeks tomorrow and have been feeling them for about 4 days, so exciting. I thought it would be a lot later as this is my first but they are definately there (and not just wind Grin)

Took delivery of our travel system today, went for a chicco trio thingy as there was £200 off at kiddicare.com and i must say that i am 100% impressed with their service and commumication. Im not going to open it until after my scan on the 15th Feb so im going to take it to my parents to store so i dont get tempted.

Hope everyones ok x

LadyGoneGaga · 27/01/2011 10:20

Very exciting Wolfcub. I keep feeling the odd flutter but could just be wind - too early to tell for me as only 14 weeks (although is my second). Very restrained on travel system too! I have my Pliko Pramette from last time round - am green at all the first timers getting shiny new prams!

itisntreallyme · 27/01/2011 11:35

I'm with you LadyGoneGaga - also expecting number 2 and planning to use our Pliko from first time around (and it was 2nd hand then!). About the most exciting thing I'm planning to buy is a buggy board for DD1!

Stangirl · 27/01/2011 12:04

My DD will only be 17mths when DC2 is born so I'm planning on getting a Phil&Ted double. Heavy - but about the only double I will be able to get on a bus.

LadyGoneGaga · 27/01/2011 12:04

I know...have been checking out websites of iCandy etc and sighing. Going to get a lovely new ring sling though (slightly addicted!). Just can't justify a new one as i know in my heart of hearts it will most likely be going into the Maclaren after 6 months anyway!

nicolamumof3 · 27/01/2011 13:18

well this is my fourth but as i was resigned to double buggies with ds3 im going to have proper carrycot this time, then a rear facer for at least another year.

I have a micralite superlite anyway, so getting carrycot for that. Then maybe a bee or something else small/light but can't think of any really that rear face and are decent.

Fab..Cherry is lovely and light, I also love the icandy peach but £££ don't really like the carrycot on cams.

Am going to the baby show next month should be good to have a look at everything.

Fab123 · 27/01/2011 13:30

Ah yes, the baby show! I want to go but don't see the point without a car. Isn't there another in March?

I've been looking on Preloved and eBay for cheapy second hand buggies. My friend is lucky (2 weeks behind me) as her dad is getting hers. Mine will be second hand but as long as it does the job! I really like the iCandy range too. Stangirl have you seen thier double buggies? I wonder if you could get a second hand one cheaper than a new Phil & Teds?

Had a tearful morning here. OH sent a long snappy email saying i've been very intense and he feels he "can't win". I've been asking him to tell his mother for weeks and he keeps coming up with excuses. Convinced he doesn't want to tell her as he said he would keep it secret for years if he could. Apparently I just don't understand his family ConfusedIt's just hard when we don't see each other in the week as emails and texts sound harsher sometimes but I don't trust my emotional hormones on the phone :(
Anyway, i'm off to watch the Kings Speech to take my mind off it in an hour :)

MissLolita · 27/01/2011 14:47

Hi ladies,
Glad we are all well. Confuddled your OH sounds lovely!

Fab try not to be too upset - it's very hard to interpret emails and texts xxx Your craftiness sounds wonderful! Do you have any pictures you can share?

I'm planning on visiting the baby show and I was going to catch the train - hadn't thought of driving...? I had assumed you sort of ordered things and they delivered to your home...we're particularly interested in prams and big stuff though...You;re making me wonder now? I did get sent a discount code for tickets today though - EX29 - which saves you £1 off the website price.

I'm very jealous of your flutters wolfcub! I haven't felt anything and I was warned that I have an anterior placenta (i.e. at the front) so this can muffle them and mean I might not feela nything until much later Sad

Stangirl · 27/01/2011 15:18

Fab123 I'll look at the iCandy range. I too will only be buying second hand. I pride myself on spending almost nothing on DD so far. I had so many friends that generously gave me all their stuff as well as presents and a couple of things off freecycle that when we bought her the next size up car seat (second hand) last week it was the first thing apart from a few toys I remember buying. We have been very lucky.

MissLolita I had an anterior placenta with DD and again with this pregnancy. You'll be glad when everyone else is being kept awake all night with kicking and you sleep through. You will feel and see the kicks eventually - but will be spared the downside.

notnearlyasblondasiwas · 27/01/2011 15:51

Hi everyone, very jealous of all the pram shopping going on. I bought a very expensive Mamas and Papas travel combo thingy for DD which was an utter waste of space as it was impossible to walk the dog with and the frame practically bent if you hit a tree rut or paving stone with it. So in frustration, I bought a Phil and Ted when she was about 6 months, which I love and has been brilliant. Went mad at the time and bought the cocoon, the doubles kit and the muff too, so I have nothing to buy now.

Am pretty sure am having another little lady as am having exactly the same pregnancy as last time, so suspect I won't even have any clothes to buy.

Am also starting to feel flutters (that I am pretty sure aren't wind! Blush Am looking more and more like a big capital D every day.

Anyone else off on holiday soon? Am off to NZ in 2 weeks and need tips on how to keep DD (16 months) entertained on a 24 hour flight - seriously, any ideas welcome!

hefner · 27/01/2011 16:17

Hi everyone,

It's very exciting to see people starting to feel flutters. I haven't felt anything yet but I'm only about 16 weeks and it's my first so I'm not expecting anything just yet.

I've bought some comfy maternity trousers, I think I'll need them soon as my work trousers are getting pretty tight. Can't wait to have a proper bump.

I'm starting to look at travel systems, but finding it all a bit confusing, there seem to be so many different bits! I like the look of the icandy cherry, definitely need something light that folds up small because we won't have much space to store it.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down Fab, hope you enjoy the film.

hefner · 27/01/2011 16:21

Ooh, notnearly I've just noticed your holiday plans. We went to NZ on honeymoon and really loved it, definitely my favourite place in the world and I'd love to go back. Hope you have a great time. No idea how to keep a 16 month old occupied though, sorry!

F1rstT1meMummy · 27/01/2011 16:23

Knock knock - is there room for another?
I am 18 weeks, 19 on the weekend, but have a feeling my LO will be late. Due the 25th June :)
