MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

Hi Selena, welcome! Sorry I can't help either...Confused

squirrel007 · 24/01/2011 19:23

I am debating whether to find out the sex - I want to but DH doesn't. And then I thought that if we don't, at least we won't be given loads of blue/pink stuff before baby is here (I don't really like blue/pink baby things, although I realise that I might not have a lot of choice!). Keeping it secret isn't really an option if we do find out! So I'm unsure now about what to do.

On the plus side I am enjoying all the extra energy that I have since the first trimester ended Grin And I wore maternity trousers for the first time today, and found them so much more comfy than my normal ones. Think I might carry on wearing them post-pg Grin

Don't think I've felt any flutters from the baby yet, but I've had weird flutterings ever since the beginning which I put down to things stretching. I read that 16-18 weeks when you might start feeling the baby, so I'm looking forward to that.

fab123 I'm not crafty enough to make things, but we have decorated our spare room ready to be a nursery! I like the sound of the fabric hot air balloons.

selina I didn't have the nuchal scan either, but being on the high end of normal doesn't really mean anything. It's still within the normal range, especially if you're more towards 14 weeks than 11.

sues I agree that you have probably hurt yourself rather than baby. I read somewhere that maternal trauma is actually really unlikely to harm baby. Hope you feel better soon.

squirrel007 · 24/01/2011 19:30

selina reading back I'm not sure if that last comment sounds harsh! What I mean is that there are always people who lie on the extremes of the normal range, or even outside, and it is hardly ever a bad sign :)

buttonmoon78 · 24/01/2011 19:58

Evening all!

Went for my 12 week scan today. Was actually 13+3 so what I'd thought in the beginning. So am truly a July person again. EDD on DH's bday so that's cool too.

Finally told dcs tonight. They're all so excited! It's lovely especially as DH thought they'd be gutted.

Glad everyone's scans are going ok. I refused the nuchal scan so I haven't got that to worry about.

Am now awaiting flutters. Can't wait!

confuddledDOTcom · 24/01/2011 20:57

Hi Selina, welcome to July! I'm also a Doula!, are you on the DUK forum? Are you having a Doula of your own? I've asked one, I read her website awhile ago and said that she would have been my Doula but I wasn't having anymore Hmm so when I found out I was I asked her straight away.

confuddledDOTcom · 24/01/2011 21:02

Selina, not had the nuchal scan as I refused testing. Do try not to worry too much as they seem to have quite low limits.

SelinaDoula · 24/01/2011 21:48

Thanks all.
confuddledDOTcom
Yes, I'm on the DUK forum and yes, have asked another doula to come along!
Worrying about all the things I reassure others not to worry about lol

sues1974 · 24/01/2011 22:12

Evening ladies,
Thanks for your reassurance, im feeling better tonight, and my little boy is fine thanks. Thanks for the not so tight hugs misslolita that made me laugh.
Ladygone, is it your first? sorry will loose post i think if i go back over to look at stats. i couldnt find my sons heart beat until after week 20, ive found this LOs at week 13 though and im sure ive had movements.
My son has only just started walking back in november and my hubby works away from home so im constantly picking him up and its getting difficult now so i thin kyoure all right, ive probably pulled and stetched some bits but baby is fine.
confuddled - thats awful about your daughters ear, hope shes on the mend. It must annoy you when the rest of us are saying we think 6 weeks is so long to wait, i bed youd give anything to have that normality. i have to have extra scans but only after the 20 week scan and every 4 weeks so nothing like what you have to go through.
Welcome selinadoula i had the nuchal screening but mine was 1.6mm, i was expecting a fantastic result but it came back as just ok, not high risk anyway so thats something but i also read that 2.5mm is still ok, my sonographer said they would start to worry when it got to 3.5 and over. i read somewhere (think its on here) of someone having 6mm and ended up being 1 in 40 combined with age and blood results but having had the amnio the baby is all fine. Hope youre result ends up as low risk.
Hope everyone is ok tonight xx

Fab123 · 24/01/2011 23:30

Welcome Selina :)

Confuddled I hope your daughter is alright, it must be ever so painful and confusing for her. I suffer with ear infections as I had gromits when I was young so can empathise a tiny teeny bit. I'm sure you are giving her lots of cuddles and love to keep her mind off it :)

Sues are you feeling better? I've read everywhere that the baby is very well cushioned in there. My partner and I were worried over the weekend as he lay on me after nookie and it felt VERY uncomfortable (he's 6ft 5 and to be honest it probably would have been breathtaking even if I wasn't preggers!) and I have to say I also had visions of crushed fingers etc. I've checked it all out on line though and friends have all reassured me that baby is in the safest place possible.

MissLolita Wow! I envy your knitting! We had to knit a square for an Oxfam blanket apeal when I was about 8 but I haven't tried knitting since. I don't think I was very good at a simple square tbh Blush. I've been sewing on a cheapy machine I got from Netto months ago and have been having a lot of fun! I've made a two sided blanket, soft cube with bells in, giraffe fleece rattle and a soft owl toy in the last week. Feel like i'm on a roll! Fabric is addictive though and i've had to force myself to stop bidding on ebay or it'll cost more than they would from a shop! Hoping to do a sleeping bag/snuggler when the fabric I ordered comes in - hopefully it will go to plan and not have to be used as a cat basket Confused

LadyGoneGaga · 25/01/2011 08:49

No, it'll be my second child Sues. Maybe I'm just too impatient. But I had a mc in between at 7 weeks so I'm just a bit twitchy.

Stangirl · 25/01/2011 14:44

Hi all. Haven't been on for a while but now have full on bump and am stuffing myself with food. I ignore all food advice (except for liver products and coffee) and have recently munched through a huge rare steak and whole camenbert. I also crave junk food and have Pot Noodles for lunch. Oh well.

I will find out the sex at the next scan as with my first I had a strong preference for a girl and if it was to be a boy I wanted a few months to work through my disappointment so that the actual birth wouldn't be spoiled by thinking "bugger". My DP and I also have very vigorous debates about names and by knowing the sex we divide the name list in half.

Eglu · 25/01/2011 16:02

Stangirl a good reason for us finding out the sex this time is that we are finding it much harder to agree on names. Cutting half out of the list would really help.

Stangirl · 25/01/2011 16:18

Eglu don't forget - you carry the baby and and will give birth to it so DP/DH can provide input on names but final call is yours. You deserve it!

Eglu · 25/01/2011 16:27

I'm going with that this time as DH named DS1. DS2 we agreed on very easily. I've told him this is my one to name.

Especially as one of the boys names he has come up with is Travis.

itisntreallyme · 25/01/2011 16:49

Hi all, I'm new here! I'm 17 weeks pregnant and due on 4th July.

Selina I also had a nuchal fold of 2.4mm which I believe is on the high end of normal if you're 12 weeks pregnant. However, my hospital told me they don't really worry about anything below 3mm. I did get a high risk for DS (1 in 55) but that was more down to my blood results (my HCG was crazy high). I decided to have CVS and got the all clear.

I know how worrying it is but really 2.4mm isn't bad at all. Plenty of people have to be above normal or the normal wouldn't be the normal IYKWIM.

SelinaDoula · 25/01/2011 17:24

Thanks itisntreallyme hope all goes well for you. In some ways I wish I'd never agreed to any testing!

confuddledDOTcom · 25/01/2011 22:26

I'll let you know who I am on there then, although you may be able to work it out as I'm one of the ones who went with MNHQ to Elstree to visit EastEnders. I'm not worrying too much, I'm high risk and know acutely what's going on. I saw my CMW today and said I'm half way through my average pregnancy, she laughed and said "I bet you have all the milestones" I said "Yeah, for most people it's get to 12 weeks and tell people. For me it's get to 8 weeks (my miscarriage, but this and last time I was past 8 weeks when I found out) then 12 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks and we're viable, 26 weeks even better, 28 weeks better still, 30 weeks and I'm laughing"

On the subject of my CMW, I showed her a letter that my doctor had sent to my GP. It stated I have had 2 miscarriages and stated I'm 2+2. As soon as I handed it over she said "I know what this is going to say!" she said she'd been discussing me at work (she's also a bereavement MW) as they were having a chat about that sort of thing. She called it rude and disrespectful. I have my 16 week scan on Friday so I will be paying a visit to PALS!

Sues, I'd happily swap but I try not to let it annoy me. What does annoy me is people asking for natural induction methods at 31/32 weeks and saying they're hoping it comes soon as they don't want to go to 40 weeks. Premature babies can come at 41/42 weeks, I've seen sick babies who are premature at postmature dates. If your baby isn't here yet, they're not ready to be.

Stangirl, my GP said he doesn't believe in half of the things we're told to avoid. If you're craving it it's probably for a reason.

Fraochsmum · 26/01/2011 08:36

Your post really makes sense confuddled - in the past I have thought it a bit selfish to wish your baby out well before time, but you spell out precisely why. You really have had a hard time of it and must have been very difficult given your job. My mw had problems TTC and said it was so upsetting at work.
I haven't posted for ages as I have had absolutely nothing to say, but have been following the thread. Glad all your scans have been going well, I have my first normal mat app on Monday so hopefully be hearing the hb. The 20 week scan still seems so far away but really it's only another month!
I got the census job I was after as well so really chuffed at that. Also starting an open learning ECDL course on Monday so will have plenty occupying my time - July will be here before I know it!
Hope everyone is doing well xxx

Stangirl · 26/01/2011 09:22

I have been a little concerned since my 12 week scan about the date of my next scan and I was hoping someone on here might be able to help.

I am under shared care between a MW and consultant obs as I am deemed high risk. I think this is a combination of:

  • IVF pregnancy
  • I am 42
  • I have a thrombophilic disorder (Leiden Factor V) which means I have to take aspirin and inject clexane every day

At the scan everything was fine but my placenta was covering my cervix - I know that can change but it is a worry. I am currently 15+1 and intend to have an ELCS at 39 weeks. I have had one miscarriage at 9 weeks (before Leiden V was diagnosed) and one live birth at 39weeks (ELCS). My next scan is booked for 22weeks with a MW appointment in a fortnight - shouldn't I be having an earlier scan than that? Is 22 weeks too late to do all the abnormalities stuff?

Fab123 · 26/01/2011 11:32

Stangirl can you call your midwife and explain how worried you are? Many of my friends have had scans in between the "regular" scan dates because they were cramping or very concerned. I really think you should call and ask and if that doesn't work do some shouting. Even if it is just to put your mind at rest. If they have overlooked something then they will see how on the ball you are and book you in. I hope it works, but don't be afraid to shout. A friend told me at the start that if I was ever really worried I must get an extra early scan - she said it really can be he who shouts loudest, and sometimes rightly so! Good luck.

LadyGoneGaga · 26/01/2011 13:18

I think 22 weeks is fine to check the abnormalities etc, Stangirl. I just Googled and usually be performed between 18 and 22 weeks but can be done even later. There is a really good chance that the placenta will rise up and away as your uterus grows - fingers crossed for you.

They should listen to the heartbeat at the MW appt as well which should help reassure you. I hate this gap between scans when you can't feel any kicks to reassure you!

Fab123 · 26/01/2011 13:36

Stangirl I've only had the one at 12 weeks and my next isn't until 20 weeks on NHS, but if you have some £ spare you can go for a 3D one in the meantime. I'm doing that on the 5th Feb to find out the sex as i'll be 16 weeks and can't wait till March to see Pea again! Mine cost £70 for an idea of prices if you are thinking about it :-)

confuddledDOTcom · 26/01/2011 14:06

Fraochsmum, I'm quite matter of fact about life and I don't wish anyone's naivety away. I try not to get cross with people because it's a naivety that comes from only having an easy time of pregnancy and that's how it should be. It does annoy me to hear people wishing the end away, I guess for that reason, they shouldn't have to know what it's like, but not people getting excited and wishing for the next stage.

Stangirl, I'm another thrombophiliac, also on Clexane and Aspirin. I'm surprised that you're not having more scans TBH as I'd have thought they'd want to keep an eye on your placenta at the least to make sure you're not starving the baby. Placenta previa can change before the end of pregnancy, my mum had it with my sister and spent her entire pregnancy in hospital as she was threatening to miscarry. In the end she went to 44 weeks and delivered naturally with the placenta well out of the way.

I'm getting a little worried today. I've been feeling out of breath since Saturday, at first I thought it was a chest infection but I don't have any signs of a chest infection. The stairs, even eating, are making me breathless. I've just sat on my bed most of that time. So today I started thinking, I'm a thrombophiliac, what if it's something more? I don't even know what a PE would look like.

Stangirl · 26/01/2011 14:50

confuddledDOTcom pregnancy makes me v v out of breath. It is an early symptom with me starting at around week 7 or 8. I have to walk slowly and stairs make me gasp. My haematologist said it was within the normal range of symptoms for pregnancy.

confuddledDOTcom · 26/01/2011 15:40

I've never experienced anything like this. I had palpatations with one of the others for a few days, this is different to that. I don't really know what normal pregnancy symptoms feel like, I don't get them!

I'm seeing the Immunology/FMT team on Friday so I'll bring it up then.
