MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Sorry, laptop is having an aversion to the letter after B...

scarthy1975 · 19/01/2011 12:35

I swear by Body Shop Shea Body Butter - didn't get any stretch marks with number 1. I had 2 tubs for xmas and it smells lush.

Fab123 · 19/01/2011 12:41

I know they said stretch marks are hereditory but my mum was a stick instect, had me at 38 and was in a bikini again within a year without a mark on her. I don't think i'm quite so lucky! I love the smell of those butters, thanks scarthy Smile

cara2244 · 19/01/2011 15:30

Everyone, its so nice to know I'm not the only one not feeling as excited as I think I should be! I spoke to a friend the other day who has just had her second, and I said I feel like I resent this pregnancy, I just want the baby not the pregnancy! She said she felt the same.

I also clearly remember when my son was born this moment of realisation that I now had a baby. It was like I hadn't realised it at any point during the pregnancy. It was an abstract thing until he was born. I think this one may be the same.
I am realising that pregnancy is a roller coaster second time round too :)

cara2244 · 19/01/2011 15:32

And I don't feel comfortable putting pg details on Facebook either.

Twit · 19/01/2011 16:25

Well I had the scan on monday, all seemed ok,I was 16 weeks so too late for NT so have also refused the blood test. I got a lovely picture too. I have my 20 week on 18th Feb so not long to wait!
Oh and having spoken to my MW, the same one I've had for 3 of my pregnancies which is nice, I have decided to go for another home birth.
I was really hoping I'd feel differntly having seen the baby, but no, I'm still, meh glad things seem ok but meh. When I read about how hard some people have to try to get pg or keep the baby once they are, I feel evil and inhuman. BUT seeing a few of us feeling similarly is reassuring isn't it?
I have caved and orderd some jeans and a top from next which might cheer me up a bit.
We are going to try to keep things quiet about this pg until after the scan, as I can still wear my big winter coat hopefully it will be ok. So after 1/2 term I shall start wearing my bump with pride!
We told my mum and my dad,my mum and s/dad were surprised but happy and my dad laughed Blush I think I'll have to get used to that as well as all the usual 'wot no tv?' comments etc.
One last thing, the job! It had already been filled so never mind and all that, but maybe for the best atm?

nicolamumof3 · 19/01/2011 18:53

well i must say that i am rather excited now i've had my scan. I feel really bonded and happy, this was so much wanted for and took a year of discussions to agree to go for a fourth. I always wanted another baby so am very happy that all is fine at scan.

I think i've been feel some very slight flutterings too Smile

I personally don't buy much at all either til after the 20w mark. I will be using my micralite superlite from ds3 and getting a carrycot for it. We have cot already, but no bedding for it. Not that much to get really at all...unless its a girl of course! Shock

It is interesting to read how everyone is feeling about being pregnant. Especially considering most of the pgs were planned.

I really wanted DC3, but have moments of thinking what on earth am I doing. I also get freaked out at the thought of being a mother of 3.

I am counting down to my 20 week scan which is 4 weeks today.

StormBird · 19/01/2011 20:44

Hello Ladies,

I'm definately going to consider this Waterbirth thingy but I'll probably wimp out once I'm in Labour and scream the place down until I get an Epidural LOL!!! We'll see. Need to do more research.

Wolfcub sorry to hear the way you have been feeling but glad that everyones stories have perked you up a bit and hopefully made you feel like you are not alone.

DP and I planned this PG but are in a similar position to fallingandlaughing (work? Money? wise) and feel similar to you also Wolfcub . I've got a feeling the reason why I'm not bonding so far is cause I'm so frightend that something is going to go wrong and I dare not get my hopes up. Don't get me wrong I am v. happy this is all happening for us but after everything we have been through it just seems to goo to be true. Not the best way to feel I suppose. I do try to keep up a good PMA. I just keep telling myself that once I get through the 20wk scan I'll relax into it all. Lets hope so eh!

Hope you are all well xx

Eglu · 19/01/2011 21:02

Stormbird I would love a water birth but my labours are too fast to allow time for it.

cara2244 · 19/01/2011 21:23

oooh Twit tell me about your homebirth experiences! I had a homebirth with my LO but it was unplanned and very unusual circumstances - first stage less than an hour, baby delivered by a close friend who is also a midwife (but she's in Dubai now), loads of problems getting a 2nd midwife to come out, internal stitches done at home by my friend (I think any other midwife would have sent me into hopsital)
I'd love to have another homebirth and the midwives locally are very supportive - but the midwife at my booking appt did say not to get my hopes up as it may not be the same the second time round and may take longer.

cara2244 · 19/01/2011 21:26

StormBird I keep getting this 'it's all too good to be true'/'we're too lucky' feeling as well!

cara2244 · 19/01/2011 21:44

OK, why did I just spend 10 minutes reading a thread about horrible labour experiences?!? I now have a whole host of possible labour problems on my mind!
Am convinced I won't be so lucky with my labour this time round :(

I think I should take my irrational pregnant brain and bury it in a trashy novel.

nicolamumof3 · 19/01/2011 22:01

I really wanted home birth fir ds2 but was group b strep. When pg with ds3 I struggled to get tested foc it but bizarrely would bookie for home birth without it in the end I was clear but mw said was too late in the day to consider Grrrr. In the end I was poorly so hlad I went in. Had my first ever epidural bloody amazing!

Eglu · 20/01/2011 11:21

Cara I had a home birth with DS2 and am planning another this time. I have quick labours and that is part of my reason. Hospital is 35 mins away.

DS2 was 1hr 45mins from first twinge to birth. I'm just hoping mw will get here in time for this one. HB is wonderful though. Getting in your own bath afterwards and snuggling in your own bed is the best part.

Eglu · 20/01/2011 11:24

Twit I am due the same day as you. I was also hoping to keep it quiet at the school gates until after the 20 week scan, but DS1 decided he wanted to tell his friends, and I was pleased he was excited enough to do so, and let him.

I was using the winter coat means they can't see the bump too. Quite handy this time of year.

Twit · 20/01/2011 11:39

cara I have had 2 home births mainly because like eglu I have quick labours and deliveries and also live about 1/2 hour from the hospital, I almost gave birth to ds2 in the car.
I like having them at home as it means I don't have to worry about me getting anywhere when all I want to do is pace about. Also I get to have more control over what is happening and like to get into my own bed after all is done and dusted.
On a rather more selfish (?) note, it is really helpful with regards to childcare Blush
There are loads of reasons why for 'normal' women with 'normal' pregnancies home birth is something to be encouraged. If I get a chance later I will look up some old threads about it - there are loads here.
eglu we haven't told the kids yet, we're going to (hopefully) tell them on the 18th after the 20 week scan so we can also let them know what we are having. This will give us 1/2 term to get used to it and I can stop trying to hide away.

Am feeling more positive today, perhaps the sunshine is helping.

nicolamumof3 · 20/01/2011 13:28

actually feeling good today!! Had a lovely morning with DS2 out and about to starbucks and to park to feed ducks!

went to docs, got some codeine for my migraines, but she suggested to definitely look into acupuncture so doing that.

Looking forward to weekend as my brother and sil are over (they live in Athens) and haven't seen for seven months, so that will be nice.

how is everyone today?

eglu i also have had quick labours with all mine. Its strange how i want to go into hospital to give birth as i really don't like them, and literally leave it to last minute to go in, im normally about 8cm by time i get there, even with my first!! We have a brand new hospital and the facilities are supposed to be amazing. I already know the staff there are excellent so looking forward to a positive experience. Especially as all the rooms are now apparently private with en suit..i may stay a week Grin

MissLolita · 20/01/2011 14:09

Good morning all,
I think the sunshine is having a positive effect on me too! I talked to a friend in real life about a little of how I was feeling and she said that she had felt like that too when she was pregnant and that it was quite common, which made me feel quite a bit better!
Dh and I have decided that we are going to find out the sex of the baby but keep it as our secret and because of my sudden turn in mood and a sudden desire to check the baby is really there I have booked a sexing scan for Saturday! I haven't told dh yet and thought I would tell him when we get there! Suddenly feeling Grin!
Hope it's sunny where you are and that it is making you cheery too!

Fab123 · 20/01/2011 14:54

Hi everyone! Yes, sunshine has been good here too and I walked the 30mins to the Post Office to finally pick up a parcel I missed just before Xmas and they wouldn't re-deliver. They've sent it back to sender, which p'd me off and I walked off a little teary. No way I could have walked that in the 1st Trimester! However the walk in the sun has done me a lot of good and I even booked in at an NHS dentist for their first free slot in March (by which time i'm hoping my card will be through - anyone know how long it takes? Getting form from MW on 3rd Feb...). Also had the results of my Downs bloods - not at increased risk. So all positive for the weekend ahead.
MissLolita How very exciting! I'm having my sexing scan on 5th. Let us know how it goes! I paid £70 and apparently get a couple of pics with that too :-)

Mitchell81 · 20/01/2011 15:07

Misslolita what a coincidence I am also going for a scan to find out the sex on saturday. I am very excited. I will be 16+5 weeks.

I need a bit of reassurance from the scan as my eldest DD has a genetic syndrome (dislocated knees, hips- problems with bones and muscles) and our two boys are perfectly healthy. My 12 week scan was very reassuring as we saw the arms and legs moving(DD could not have done that) but my worry is if it is a female gene that has this disability. But need to know what we are having iyswim just so I can put my mind at rest, probably wont tell everyone what we find out and keep our little secret.

nicolamumof3 · 20/01/2011 16:15

I'm already sick of the 'hoping for a girl' comments. No I'm not actually just a healthy baby grrr but then I just keep getting ' oh go on admit you do want a girl don't you?' NO!!!!

MissLolita · 20/01/2011 16:21

Mitchell and Fab, how lovely!
Nicola, some people are just weird!
Everybody seems to ask "do you have a preference?" which I find quite weird - I'm so tempted to respond to the next person with something like: "yes actually, if it's a girl we're going to send it back". :)
